Spinner's End. Heavy raining day. Morning. Susannah sitting on the window seat, staring at the street on which was the childhood home of her father Severus Snape.
Sometimes she thinks about how her father, Snape, ended up growing up here anyway.
The town of Cokeworth smell like a road kill, the chilly mist... drifted over a dirty river, streets of identical brick, terraced, houses, the bank of which was strewn with litter, disused mill with a tall chimney in this town.
Every year never changes.
She sighs so loud that make Eileen notice her from the kitchen where she is sitting there at the window alone.
The others are still in bed, just Susannah who is wide awake. Eileen approached her.
"Why do my beautiful granddaughter Susannah sitting at the window seat alone, staring at the empty street.." Susannah turns to Eileen.
She smiled. "Believing in miracles happen my dear?" She takes a seat face to face. "What the matter? Did you miss your mother".
Susannah gave another sigh but slower, she said. "Why did my father grow up here?"
"You don't like it here?"
"No. I mean of course I like it here, I was just curious. This whole place.. well, kind of chilling. How did you and dad survive in this kind of place".
Eileen smiled, eyes stared on the view.
"This house originally belonged to my husband, your grandpa, Tobias Snape. Muggle man I married to. The doors were completely hidden, and the first room upon entry had the feeling of a prison cell..
"Until your dad took over it, he apparently renovated it to fall in line with a wizard's residence, as the light source in the sitting room was a candle-lit lamp instead of electrical light fixtures. Your grandpa obviously..
Eileen sighs, she spoke again. "Your grandpa obviously abuses us. Me and your dad. That is why your dad likes spending his time alone around the house. Tobias never liked magic".
"But you married him, Grandma".
"I do. Till he'd find out about me being a witch. I use my magic around the house without his presence. My Severus likes it. And then Lily came into ours".
Susannah nodded her head. She barely knew Lily Potter. She knows Lily's through her mother, and Harry. Snape not even once mentioned Lily's upon his lips.
Her father did love Lily but she broke his heart. Then she married to James Potter and had Harry. Lily and James get killed by Voldemort.
"Dad not once told us about Lily Potter. Mum did. He does love her, doesn't he?"
"He is. For him, his love towards Lily is eternity but in the end she broke his heart. And your dad accidentally called her Mudblood because of his jealousy of James Potter, he took a rage toward Lily".
Susannah nodded again. "He was devastated after he called her that. Your dad likes spending his time in Hogwarts compared to here. Because of your bloody grandad".
"Poor dad. Lily Potter may not love my dad but my mum did. He got his second chance to fall in love again".
Eileen nodded with a smile. "The first time I met your mum. I completely stun how beautiful she was even now. She just.. Glowing".
"And having seven of us".
"Your mum is a wonderful woman I've met, Susannah. My dear Severus was lucky to have your mum in his life, and give me a beautiful grandchild that Tobias won't see now".
"Have you.. I mean are you and dad ever looking for grandpa?"
Eileen shakes her head no. "Because your dad forbade us to speak about him. I was lost the day your dad found me walking around Cokeworth without my identity. Amnesia what the muggle say".
"So, dad found you but he didn't look for grandpa. That's fine. As long as dad is happy I won't dare to interfere".
And heavy footsteps climbing down the stairs. It was Henry. His hand rubs both of his eyes and yawns. The weather is so cold, outside it is still pouring heavily rain. He stood in the middle of the room as his eyes stopped at Susannah and Eileen.
"What are you two doing?"
"Nothing". said Eileen. She rose up. "I make tea. Wait for the rest to wake up". She walked back to the kitchen. Henry took a seat on Eileen's previous seat.
Susannah studied him with a smile. "Feeling better?" she asked. "Nice weather you know that".
"I'm going back to Hogwarts this evening. Through the fireplace, because Minerva allowed us to use it as fast as I can get to Hogwarts. It all connected. Tomorrow is my Quidditch practice and I won't be missing it".
"Will you come back here again?"Henry shook his head no. "Why not?"
"Mum will be fine. Stay here if you want".
"I am not gonna miss my studies. I come with you".
Henry rolled up his eyes. "What about Tobias, Ariana and the twins?"
"Grandma can handle them for a while. Just look at Aurora, she won't let mum out of her sight".
He nodded. Their eyes met again. "What did you and Grandma talk about?"
"About Grandpa".
"We never spoke about grandpa, Sue. Not even we know if he is still alive out there. Look we wrote mum and dad a letter before we're going back to Hogwarts. Let them know".
"Why don't we text them instead of the owl? No, wait we don't have any of those gadgets to use or we should call them. That fast I can think about it".
Diagon Alley. Day. Snape was purchasing the book at Flourish and Blotts. He didn't notice someone standing right behind him that he could feel was Lucius Malfoy.
Gently he turned on his back and there he was, a pale, pointed face, with pale blond hair and cold gray eyes staring at him. A walking stick with a snake head that contained his wand on his side.
Both men's eyes stare at each other. "Severus.."
"Lucius". Snape smirking. "Still enjoying collecting Dark artifacts, particularly ones that no one else had". Lucius nodded his head. "I was wondering what are you doing in here, Lucius". Snape asks. "Care for a book?" Lucius studied him.
"I always spoke highly of you, Severus. I was the first person in Hogwarts who offered my kindness to you. I welcomed you into Slytherin House. I was a prefect. And then I learnt that my old friend had died... I was shocked".
Snape nod head in a smile. Lucius spoke again. "Miracle that you are here standing right in front of me.. alive.. without aging. How's your life, Severus?"
"Before or after if you ask".
.. "Both"..
Leaky Cauldron. Snape wiped his mouth with a napkin. Both men order the same food for their Luncheon, Steak and Kidney pie, Whiskey for Lucius and Lemonade for Snape.
Snape wasn't a heavy drinker. Never ever he tries to drink himself but not for Lucius, his old friend. Lucius spanked on his chair after having a heavy Whiskey.
The witches came over them to refill their water.
"Can you get me one Butterbeer with ginger added inside for my wife with soup". Snape smiles. Lucius eyeing him. "She loves that kind of flavor. Packing everything for me. Thank you".
The witches nod, turn her feet then walk to the bar. Snape caught Lucius' eyes staring at him.
"What?"
He was smirking. "I never liked Bella. Though she was my sister in-law I never was. She made my Draco.." Lucius bite his lips. "Then she stayed at the Manor. We two never stopped fighting each other. As for her death? I don't know whether I want to be sad or not".
Snape takes a drink again. Lucius studied him again. "Miss Granger, the Minister you married too. I'd just like to say she makes you happy, that's all. Like how you are interested in her, Severus".
"Don't you ever dare to say that word, Lucius!" Snape warned him. "She's my wife now".
"I didn't say anything to provoke her nor anything to insult her. She's a war hero. Did you know that she fought with the Death Eaters kind of like us? She was there at the Department of Mysteries where we all watched Sirius slowly die. Dolohov almost killed her with the cursed he in it".
Lucius notices Snape grip the side of the tablecloth until his knuckles turn into white as his lips stutter in anger.
Flashback where Antonin Dolohov suddenly made a slashing movement with his wand from which flew a streak of what looked like purple flame.
Hermione had just struck dumb. It passed right across chest, she gave a tiny oh! as though of surprise and then crumpled onto the floor.
This curse caused major injuries, and if performed with enough power, had the capacity to kill.
"You weren't there, Severus. I was there and watched everything that I didn't help her with instead".
There is a clank! sound Snape makes between the plate with his spoon, that he wants Lucius to stop telling him more about his wife's fight with the Death Eaters.
Especially Antonin Dolohov whom he tried to kill. To pain to hear and he never was there for her.
"She was pregnant with your child am I right, Severus. When the snatchers brought her into the manor I overheard you fighting with Bella above my head about not to hurt her. So is true then?"
"You should know how strong she was, Lucius. As she forgot who she carried inside her.. my son".
The witches came back with packed of Butterbeer and soup for Hermione. Snape paid for the food and drink he and Lucius had today.
"I own her life, Lucius. I have never been so happy after Lily. My life is much better without her, after her death. There's my wife who I taught her and being her professor".
Lucius nod head. "I own your life for Draco".
"You were there for me, Lucius. You were there when I needed someone. The fact that your wife went to see me for help when you were in Azkaban and Draco had been given a dangerous mission by Voldemort".
Both men sigh. Snape spoke again. "As my respect to your family I was the only Death Eater who continued to treat you kindly after your fall from favor. I was the one who convinced the Dark Lord to free you from Azkaban".
"I was too dumb to be the Dark Lord followers. As for mine and Draco crimes, we've been forgiven. Narcissa told me she had lied to the Dark Lord that saved Potter's life in the Forbidden Forest".
Snape smiles in a nod. "Indeed. That was after my death".
"I try to keep my bloodline. I want my grandson to continue the family line. As for Draco, he tells his wife otherwise".
Snape snorted. Lucius eyes up to him. "You have your own grandson and I had a child who is the same as yours. Slytherin. We should be proud of that".
"I was prefect, Severus".
"And I was the nerd, bloody greasy git".
Snape and Lucius chuckle a bit. As noon passes, both men walk separate ways.
