Heatwave and Hightemp they lived in a town known as Kansas city in Missouri this city was on two states but divided in half. Heatwave worked as a Firefighter and his wife Hightemp worked as a nurse at Children's Mercy Adele Hall, it was a hospital meant for the care of children. They loved each other very much and now they were very happy. Because they were expecting their first child. Then a cool November 14th their son was born.

They named him Hot shot. They loved him very much. Hot shot was a very healthy baby. Family and friends came to see him and they loved him and congratulated the couple.

Then a few months later they noticed Hot shot was an off color sometimes and didn't have much energy and such. He just wasn't as active. The doctors ran some tests and told them Hot shot had a heart defect he had holes in his heart and leaky valves that they were going to keep an eye on it make sure it would be fine because they figured Hot shot's heart might fix holes itself because that had been known to happen.

Hot shot was growing up fast. Before he parents knew he went from a baby to an active 9 year old. Hot shot loved to run jump play. He was very active indeed he was always playing but he always had to catch his breath and take frequent breaks. Hot shot had to see a cardiologist regularly to make sure things were going smoothly and such.

Hot shot has going five friends that he plays with in the neighborhood their names were Wedge, Hoist, Medix, Whirl and Scorch. They loved to play together. They had all been friends since daycare they went to the same one and they even went to the same preschool and they had been the same class every year since Kindergarten now they were going to go into fourth grade and third grade year was finishing

During that time Hot shot became a big brother when he was two to a little brother named Side swipe who he loved to play with.

7 year old little Side swipe loved his big brother who loved him back. Today Hot shot was playing on the playing ground with his brother while his parents were watching but Hot shot ran out of breath after running for a couple minutes and held his chest with one hand and held his head with the other and hand and collapsed.

They ran to the sons and they checked on Hot shot who was coming too he was coughing and breathing a bit hard. Hightemp noticed swelling. "We need to get him to children's mercy Adele Hall, I will call them and tell them what happened let's get him to the car," Hightemp said. She called the hospital. "This is Hightemp Flamezer," Hightemp said over the phone.

"Hightemp why are you calling us on the hospital phone can't come in one day you have to work?" asked Emmet the guy on the phone.

"No I am bringing Hot shot my son he collapsed at the playground today," Hightemp said.

"Hot shot collapsed?" Emmet asked. "What are his symptoms?" he asked.

"Heavy breathing, chest pain, dizziness and swelling around the legs," Hightemp said.

"Okay then I will put everyone on alert," Emmet said. "Everyone Hightemp is bringing in her son Hot shot who collapsed he seems to be having heart issues or something." he said.

Heatwave drove them to the hospital and once there he carried Hot shot inside. Where they were waiting with a stretcher. Hot shot was wheeled in and monitor and things evened out and he was now fully awake and talking.

The doctors and nurses did many tests on Hot shot to find out what happened out there and why Hot shot was feeling bad. They checked somethings over they did a ECG and Echo they did blood tests and such to find out what had happened and did scans of his heart.

After Hot shot was now waiting and patient room. He was wondering what the doctors will say. One of the Cardiologist came in to talk to them. "Okay Hot shot we got the results of your tests," the doctor said. "Hot shot has HCM Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy," he said. "We are just going to try to keep an eye on it for now and see how it is doing and then we can decide on treatments" he said.

Hot shot was scared and looked at his parents and hugged them. Hot shot had to be very careful from now own his parents were watch him like hawks. He was getting out of breathe often and getting lots of chest pain. Even climbing up and down the stairs at school was getting to be exhausting. Hot shot had to explain to his friends why he was so tired and the chest pains and the leaving to got the doctor's.

They were surprised. They already knew Hot shot had heart problems but now it was worse? They saw Hot shot's medical ID bracelet to let people know about his defects and such it had fish on it.

Hot shot seemed to be having more trouble with coming weeks and he was feeling pretty bad his chest hurt and he was tired and there was lost of swelling and he had breathing problems and he lost weight for no reason. They took him back to the hospital. Hot shot was scared to find out what was going to happen now.

Hot shot and his parents were worried as the doctors ran the tests on him. Hot shot was very scared and worried because his heart has been giving his trouble for as long as he could remember he just wished he could be normal and not worry about his heart problems and it was all so scary and hard and such.

Hot shot wanted to be able to run jump and play without worrying about his heart pounding whenever he only started running and he doesn't want his friends and family to worry about his heart and him anymore either.

After the tests the doctors came up to Hot shot and his family. "Hot shot's heart is getting worse," the doctor said.

"How much worse?" Heatwave asked.

"A whole worse he is in heart failure, we will try some medicine first and see how it goes I want to see him every couple of weeks, for tests," the doctor said.

Hot shot was starting to take a medicine and over the next few weeks Hot shot didn't seem to be responding to the medicine much. They went back to the doctor and told him what was going on.

They did more tests and Hot shot's heart was looking worse. The doctor knew that Hot shot needed a heart transplant. He took a deep breathe and headed into the room were Hot shot and his family were Hot shot was getting some oxygen from mask because the nurse said he was having trouble.

The doctor could see very clearly it was important to talk about this now. "I ran the tests and everything and Hot shot he needs a heart transplant," the doctor said.

"Heart transplant?" Hot shot asked. "What is that?" he asked.

"It is where we wait for a good healthy donor heart for someone your size and age and then we do a surgery and put in the healthy donor heart when we get a match, then you will wake up and recover for around four weeks in the hospital, stay near the hospital for three months for weekly checks and then we check every couple weeks for the rest for one year and then check you every once and awhile and you will be taking many medications in the hospital and few for the rest of your life." the doctor explained to him.

Hot shot was scared to say the least needing a new heart sounds scary. He looked at his parents and the doctor left them to talk. "Hot shot we want you to be happy, healthy and strong, we think a new heart will be a good idea to help you," Hightemp said.

"Son we love you we want you to get better, if you want the transplant we will support it if you don't we will support that too, we just want you to be happy," Heatwave said.

"I love you Hot shot and I want you to feel better big brother," Side swipe said.

Hot shot thought about it for a few minutes the heart transplant sounds very scary, but the thought of losing his life sounded more frightening. He loved his parents, little brother, other family and friends. He didn't want them to be sad if something bad happened to him so he looked them. "I want a new heart because I love you and want to stay with you," Hot shot said.

The doctor came in. "Have you decided?" the doctor asked.

"Yes we want to see if Hot shot can get a new heart," Hightemp said.

"Okay then let's run some tests but I want Hot shot to stay in hospital afterwards since it seems it he might be bit touchy with health and need interventive medical help just in case he is able to be put on the list." the doctor said.

Over the next couple of days Hot shot was monitored and the tests were done to see if Hot shot could be put on the list. Hot shot had been put on the list. Hot shot was on the list and had to stay in the hospital. He was on oxygen because he was a bit weak and the doctors said the may have to put him on a VAD they told his parents that he was on a major part of the list so now they had to watch and wait.

Hot shot hoped a new heart would come soon.
