The 8th Loser Chapter 6
This feels so surreal. To Constance it is as if she's slipped back years into the past during the time when they were all just children sitting together while sharing jokes and laughter as if no time has actually gone by. Hearing all the numerous tales as various stories are exchanged during this time of reminiscing as everyone throws jabs and jokes around the table. There's so much each of them has dismissed and taken for granted as they'd foolishly permitted time to flow so strenuously, pulling further and further apart until this untimely reunion. For however brief all stress and anxiety depart as the group temporarily returns to happier memories from childhood. Enjoying in the Losers Club's company.
Constance loves the Joes, but nothing compares to your first coalition of true friends that really meant something to you.
Constance is only broken out of her own thoughts when Ben brings up Stanley's absence from their party in order to change the subject from his substantial along with the quite handsome change in appearance from when they were in school in Derry. It then goes silent as each and every single one of them turns to look at the vacant chair meant for the shiest and most jittery member of the Losers Club.
With each minute that passes Constance continues to get even more worried in regard to him. He should've been here long before now. She's aware no doubt that Mike's thinking almost exactly the same thing even as he's gently trying to ease the others through casual conversation to the true purpose why everyone has been summoned here back to the one place on this planet, they'd all rather forget.
"Stanley Urine," scoffs Richie, shaking his head as he uses Stanley's old nickname. "No, no, he's a fucking pussy. He's not gonna show."
"Why would Stanley save you anyway? Was I not the one who basically performed surgery on you when Bowers cut you up," demanded Eddie, challengingly.
"Yes," grinned Ben, lightly punching him in the arm.
Eyes wide as he claps a hand to his head, Eddie exclaimed "Holy shit! That's right."
Constance's fists at even the mention of Henry Bowers's damn name. At the same time, her eyes quickly cut toward Mike's direction. He meets her gaze which shows they are both on the same page. The longer the group sits here talking the more stuff they are recalling from their time facing Pennywise. Any second now the Clown will be unveiled before their eyes.
Smirking in a teasing manner, Beverly chuckles "Please tell me you ended up becoming a doctor, Eds."
Dear Eddie. He was such a germophobe growing up and with that insane mother of his what else would he become?
"No, I ended up becoming a risk analyst," informs Eddie.
Constance was wrong. There is a worse career he could've chosen that suits his constantly anxious personality.
"Oh that sounds interesting," said Richie, pretending to be interested when inwardly he is laughing his ass off. "What does that entail?"
"Yeah, so I work for a big insurance firm and…," said Eddie.
Richie interrupts as he begins to imitate snoring and Constance isn't strong enough to hold it in anymore. Constance bursts out blasts in amusement banging the table section she's on with her fist. The others follow their lead.
Pointing an angry finger at Richie, Eddie spat "Fuck you, dude. Fuck you. That's not funny."
"It is funny. Was this job invented before fun for you," goads Richie.
This simply causes Constance to chortle even harder, giggling uncontrollably as result.
"What the fuck are you laughing at, Bitch," exclaims Eddie, clearly offended despite it all being in good fun.
Waving a hand in front of her face to get back under proper control, tears in her eyes from how hard she lost it, Constance said "I'm sorry, Eddie. I'm sorry."
"All right, what have you been up to, Constance? What's your story," said Billy.
"Oh this I've got hear," said Beverly, grinning toothily, broaching further on the subject of her life. Not playing fair. "What's your occupation and is there a man in your life?"
"Oooh," said Richie.
"Shut up," said Constance, tossing a wonton at his head. "And, yes, I do have someone in my life. He's a colleague at work."
A masked face with a sharp visor concealing his eyes flashed in her brain. The image then disappears as fast as it came.
"Don't keep us in suspense. What job do you do for a living? You've heard all of ours," presses Ben, playfully.
"Uh well, this may seem like a surprise to you all, but I…I joined the military," divulges Constance.
"Whoa," said Ben, in disbelief.
"Are you serious," adds Bill.
Nodding in confirmation, Constance said "Yeah, I'm in the military. Have been for a couple of years. I enlisted straight after college and I've been in the service ever since. And I've got to say I'm pretty good at it, too."
Not that she is trying to brag given the classified details Constance is deliberately leaving absent. But, of course, it was an enormous achievement to have acquired her rank and happen to be recruited by such a highly ranked military division so young.
"You've actually fought in the wars and seen combat on the frontlines," asks Ben, pleasantly awestruck.
"Definitely. I've participated in a lot of missions. Depending on the type…decides how many of us make it out to return home," said Constance, soberly thinking about the numerous battles she's taken part in and come out alive despite the fact others have fallen. Those she manages to save and those she and the Joes failed to. It's no small feat that she and her comrades have lived as long as they have.
Realizing how tough it has to be as a soldier, Mike said "It must be hard for you."
Returning the smile with one of her own, Constance concurs "It's certainly not easy."
Raising her beer bottle in the air, Beverly said "I propose a toast to the Losers."
"To the Losers," all of them say, clinking glasses or bottles together.
During the final serving, Beverly notices Bill staring at her intensely.
"What," she inquires, confused.
"Nothing. This is just weird. Just all these memories, people that I don't even remember forgetting," murmured Bill, warily.
"Yeah," sighs Beverly.
Catching the reference, Ben said "I mean, it is weird, right? Now that we're all here, everything just comes back faster and faster. I mean, all of it."
Finally.

So I've got some bad news for all my loyal readers. My dog just passed away a couple of months ago. To be perfectly honest I'm heartbroken. He meant so much to me and even though my family has had other dogs in the past, since I moved out, he was my baby and the first animal to ever well and truly be mine. Especially during all of this craziness with covid-19 I think all dog owners can agree that your canine companions can really fill that void that one can find themselves stuck in. And make their households complete. So this is a shout out to all fellow dog lovers out there that see them as their children. Keep your animals close to you and cherish them always…That goes for cats, too. ;)
