She had felt alone before - but now, it consumed her. Since getting into the lifeboat Jack and forced her on, she was certain he had perished in the
disaster.
She could always go back to Cal, and yet she hid away, frightened of the results of him finding her. She hid away in steerage, hoping- no, praying- that he wouldn't see her. Of course, he knew she had gotten in the lifeboat, but if she hid...

Rose had to be somewhere nearby. He was certain she had survived, and would most likely be hiding from her family, but she proving harder than usual to find.
Jack searched everywhere. He avoided Cal like an iceberg, but had somehow searched the entire Carpathia.
Deflated and disgruntled, Jack collapsed onto a bench. He rested his head in his hands, close to tears.
Maybe she was really gone-
And yet, as he gave up, he saw a red-headed girl tucked away behind an up-turned lifeboat.

She heard his voice before she saw him.
"Rose?" He shouted, "Rose?"
"Jack!" She screamed, "Jack! Jack, You're Alive! You're alive! I thought I'd lost you!"
She was up and running across the dock before she could get her last word out. They collided, almost falling in a heap, and she found herself nestled in his arms.
"What if I had lost you?" She sobbed, "don't ever do that! Don't ever lie to me again!"
"Rose, I'm sorry, but I couldn't let you get hurt! You could've died, and I survived. I told you I'm a survivor, and I did, didn't I?" He held her closer, crushing her into his chest.
She nodded, and they walked, holding hands, to the bench he had been crying on moments before. They sat down comfortably, side by side.
He wrapped her blanket over her head to hide her bright curls and wrapped his own around both of them. They curled up together, comfortable and happy.
It was then that Rose sat upright and grabbed Jack's hand, "Jack, it's that little girl you were dancing with."
"what?" He said drowsily, "you mean Cora? Where is she?"
Rose pointed silently across the deck. There, a small girl sat, crying into the porcelain doll her father had given her.
Jack shot to his feet and ran to her. He knelt at her feet, and took her little hand in his, "Cora? Where's Mummy and Daddy?"
Cora started to sob harder, and he gathered her up in his arms. Carrying her back to the bench, he placed the sobbing child in Rose's lap.
"Rose, I need to go and check the lists. Will you be alright?"
She nodded and started to hush the girl while Jack went in search of the answers he so desperately needed. Somehow, they already knew the truth.
