"Rose?" Jack leaned over, jostling her arm. She had been thrashing about, her arms flailing about, her voice raised high in panic. At his gentle nudging she awoke with a sudden start, her eyes wide and wild.
"Jack? Oh, God- I had this dream..."
He studied her face, "you okay? What happened?"
"We we're back on the ship, and we couldn't find a way out- we- we-"
"It's okay," he soothed her, pulling her back into his arms, "is this why you haven't been sleeping?"
"Only partly- I've been worried about you."
"Well, I'll be fine- I'm a survivor, right? I'm feeling better already and I'll be home in a few days, you'll see."
"I know," she tried to smile, "but these dreams are so real."
Worry lined his face, "you're exhausted still- I think you should go back to sleep."
"I don't want to."
"Look, I've got you," he held her tighter, "think about something nice- think about the house we're going to build, and the babies we're going to have."
"Babies? You want children?" She smiled, looking up at him.
"Yeah, of course I do," he grinned, "with you, of course."
She smiled, shutting her eyes, "okay: pleasant thoughts- how many children are we going to have?"
"Twelve?" He laughed, "including Cora?"
"I think three is enough," she also laughed, her face bright.
"Boys or girls?" He asked.
"We don't get to choose-"
"I know, just humour me."
"Fine- our oldest will be a boy, and the youngest will be a girl. That way, Cora has both of them to play with."
"What will we name them?"
"Hmm," she mused, "what about little Caledon? I've always been quite fond of the name..."
"Don't tease me," his voice was full of light.
"Alright, alright- I want to name our boy after you, and perhaps Elizabeth if it's a girl."
"We can call her Lizzy," he nodded, "and if we have all twelve?"
"We better not! I can't think of twelve names that I like- and how would we feed them?"
"We'd find a way."
There was a comfortable silence for a while, "how do you think Cora's adjusting?"
"She's alright, I imagine," Rose said, "she cries for her parents sometimes, but mostly for you."
He frowned, "well, I'll be back in no time. She'll be okay until then?"
"I'm sure she will," she tried to reassure him, "you look well enough to take a walk- shall we go outside and surprise Cora?"
"Sounds like a plan," he smiled, "come on, let's go."
