Harry Potter's life could not be going any better. He's an excellent Auror, making his way up through the ranks with his best friend Ron Weasley. It's been five years since the war ended and almost all of the Death Eaters have been captured. His wife Ginny Potter just told him she's pregnant with their first child, and his best friend Hermione Granger is home. After nearly five years, Hermione finally returned to England.
Soon after the war ended, Hermione went to Australia to find her parents, and return their memories. While she was able to find them quickly, restoring their memories was a more complicated process than she anticipated. It took her nearly a year before she was able to return her parents' memories. With their memories restored her parents decided to stay in Australia. Hermione decided to stay there with them as she had already started working with the Australian Ministry of Magic.
They had kept in touch via letters and Hermione would occasionally come back to England to work with the Ministry. Hermione worked in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures in Australia. Eight months ago, Harry got a letter from Hermione saying she was transferring to London in two months. It's now been six months since Hermione's been back, and Harry could not be happier to have his best friend home.
Harry and Ron are finishing lunch in Diagon Alley, when they catch a flash of blonde hair. They soon realize that the blond hair belongs to none other than Lucius Malfoy. After the war, the Wizengamot let Narcissa and Draco Malfoy go completely free due to evidence proving their unwillingness, and for the help that they provided the golden trio during the war.
Lucius on the other hand, was found guilty of associating and following Voldemort. Evidence was shown that since the incident in the Department of Mysteries, Lucius had fallen out of favor with Voldemort. Lucius had wanted to get out, but was always being watched and the last few years was kept confined to Malfoy Manor. To help prove his loyalties Lucius had given information to the Auror's to help track down other Death Eaters. With all of this, the Wizengamot sentenced Lucius to a year's house arrest and four years of probation.
While Harry was able to admit that the information that Lucius gave was invaluable, Ron argued that they could have done without the, "Death Eater Scum."
Looking back at the man in question Harry asks, "What do you think he's doing?"
"Nothing good," Ron replies while not taking his eyes off of Lucius. He starts to take a step forward, before Harry catches his arm.
"What are you doing?" Harry questions, although he has a pretty good idea of what his friend is thinking.
"What am I doing? What are you doing? We have to follow him. He's probably on his way to set up a meeting with other Death Eaters," Ron says exasperated. He wiggles out of Harry's grasp and starts walking quickly to catch up to Lucius.
Harry shook his head before catching up with Ron.
"We don't know that he's doing anything wrong, he's just in Diagon Alley. He could just be shopping for something. No one has seen him in years since his house arrest was lifted."
"Exactly, no one sees him in years and now he's back and up to something. Didn't his probation end recently?" Ron argues back.
Harry continues to follow Ron, while trying to think of a possible response to calm his friend down. Suddenly, Ron grabs his arm and points at Lucius with a look of triumph on his face. Harry follows where Ron is pointing and sees Lucius heading to Knockturn Alley.
"Okay that's a little suspicious, but does not mean anything, not everything is completely bad there." Harry tries to assure his friend but is starting to get a bad feeling. The feeling only got worse, as they see Lucius enter Borgin and Burkes.
Ron gives Harry a smug look before asking, "now when was the last time we saw a Malfoy in Borgin and Burkes?" Ron paused for a moment before saying, "oh that's right it was are sixth year and a little blonde ferret was helping to plan the murder of Dumbledore."
"Okay, fine you're right, this is very suspicious. Let's take him in for questioning as soon as he leaves," Harry relents to Ron and prepares to take Lucius in. He grabs the handcuffs, which act as a port key and would transport the suspects and officers to an available interrogation room.
Lucius walks out of the door and looks at Harry and Ron before giving them a smirk, "Potter, Weasley, nice day isn't it?" He tries to walk around the pair before Ron grabs his arm and says, "We have some questions for you."
"Oh how exciting," Lucius responds with mock enthusiasm. "However, I must decline as I have many important things to do and unfortunately, talking to you two isn't one of them."
Harry can see Ron getting angry and steps in before Ron's temper takes over. "Mr. Malfoy, that wasn't a request we are taking you in for questioning for suspicious activity."
"Suspicious activity?" Lucius scoffs. Suddenly, Lucius' posture relaxes causing both Harry and Ron to go on immediate alert. Noticing their discomfort Lucius laughs a little before raising his arms in surrender, "Go ahead, you said you had some questions, let's go." The Auror's look at each other in bewilderment before Harry puts the cuffs on Lucius and prepares to activate the port key.
When the cuffs clasp around Lucius' wrists he can't help but smirk, his day was about to get so much more interesting, and he was curious to see how it was going to play out.
They all appear in the interrogation room. Lucius stands tall and proud as if he owned the place, he glazes around the room that would set the stage for the events of today, unfazed by the two Auror's keeping their eyes on him.
"Are you ready to talk?" Ron asks, breaking Lucius from his thoughts. "What were you doing at Borgin and Burkes?"
"I will only speak to Hermione Granger," Lucius responds.
Ron and Harry share a look of confusion. Out of all of the things Lucius Malfoy could say he was asking to speak to Hermione. "Why do you want to speak to Hermione?" Harry questions Lucius.
"You want your answers? I will only speak to Hermione Granger," Lucius repeats before heading to the chair, and crossing his arms and leaning back in his chair.
"Hermione does not work in this department and even if she did, why would you of all people want to talk to her?" Harry responds. Lucius shrugs his shoulders before saying, "that's for me to know and you to find out."
Ron asks again what he was doing in Borgin and Burkes and Lucius' response was the same, he will only speak to Hermione Granger. Getting frustrated Ron slams his hand on the table and asks the question again. Lucius seeing Ron getting angry just smirks, only adding to Ron's anger. Trying to diffuse the situation Harry quickly takes Ron by the arm and pulls him out of the room.
"What the hell Harry!" Ron exclaims when the door shuts.
"Ron, you're starting to lose it. Can't you see that the angrier you get the more joy it seems to bring to him?" Harry asks, trying to reason with Ron. This seems to help because Ron immediately takes a deep breath and apologizes for losing his cool.
After a few more deep breaths a now calm Ron asks Harry, "why does he want to speak to Hermione?"
Harry is unsure and tells Ron that between Lucius willing coming in and only wanting to talk to Hermione, it seems like there is something else going on. As he finishes that thought Ron exclaims, "that's it." Harry looks at Ron confused at what he's figured out.
"Isn't obvious," Ron asks and Harry shakes his head. "He's going after Hermione. He wants her to come in and then he's going to take her," Ron explains it as though it's the most obvious thing.
Harry shakes his head, "he is in handcuffs in a holding cell with anti-apparition charm around it. He is not going anywhere." Ron agrees that he can't go anywhere, but he still argues that he is going after Hermione. They take a few minutes debating what the next approach is, until Harry states that they should go ask Hermione. Ron argues that's just giving Lucius what he wants, but Harry says that they don't have to decide anything, just go and talk to Hermione and see what she has to say. Ron agrees and the two Aurors head towards the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures.
Hermione Granger was sitting in her office trying to figure out a way to help werewolves deal with the full moons better. Hermione had always been passionate about helping magical creatures, and after her long talks with Professor Lupin, she had seen the struggle that werewolves have and wanted to help. Hermione is in the middle of reading a new report, as she hears a knock on her door. She responds with a come in before looking up to see her two best friends.
"It's not seven yet is it?" Hermione questions. She was supposed to go have dinner at the Potter's house this evening.
"No, we actually came to talk to you about a case. We need your help," Harry responds.
"How can I help? I'm not an Auror. Is it involving a magical creature?" Hermione questions.
"No, it's not, it's…," Harry struggles with how to explain it to Hermione. "We detained a suspect for suspicious activity, we are trying to question them. They said they will only speak to you."
"Me? Why would they want to speak to me?" Hermione asks.
"We're not sure," Harry answers. Ron scoffs at that next to him and Harry gives him a glare.
"What are you guys not telling me?" Hermione asks, standing up from her desk and coming to stand before the boys.
Harry and Ron look between each other, before Harry gives Ron a look that says this is all his fault. Harry then proceeds to tell Hermione the story of what happened today, and both his and Ron's opinions on the situation.
"Okay, so let me get this straight, you followed Lucius Malfoy around Diagon Alley and Knockturn Alley, before finding him going into Borgin and Burkes and then making the assumption that he is evil and restarting the Death Eaters? And now you believe his plan was to get caught by you two all so he could get to me?" Hermione asks bemused.
Harry looks sheepish as he hears the way that Hermione is making it sound ridiculous, while Ron confidently shakes his head yes.
"We know it might sound ridiculous," "Oi," Ron tries to interrupt, but Harry just continues. "But, we need to know what he was doing in Borgin and Burkes and he says he will only tell you."
Hermione contemplates for a moment before saying, "fine I'll go with you and speak to Lucius, but I want to speak to him alone. I don't want either of you in the room and no eavesdropping." Both boys try to interrupt, but she puts her hand up to stop them, "you want me to speak to him, these are my terms." Both boys nod and lead the way back to the interrogation room.
After getting back to the interrogation room, Harry and Ron try to argue again with Hermione about going in alone.
"Do you boys really think that little of me? That I can't defend myself against an unarmed and restrained wizard?" Hermione asks her two best friends. They both shake their heads and Harry opens the door for Hermione. Harry and Ron look through the two way mirror and watch as Hermione approaches Lucius. Hermione seems to ask Lucius a question, and he laughs before saying something that they can't make out.
"Why can't we hear anything?" Ron asks.
"Damn it! Hermione must have put up a charm to prevent us from listening. She must have known we couldn't resist listening."
After a few moments Ron shouts, "Look! What is he doing?" Before Harry could respond Ron ran over to the door and stormed into the room.
Hermione walks into the interrogation room and casts a quick charm, preventing her two best friends from trying to eavesdrop on her conversation.
"Lucius, Lucius, Lucius, less than one week back in the country and you are already in trouble," Hermione says, shaking her head.
"Hey, I wouldn't be in here if it weren't for the dim-wit duo,'' Lucius defends.
"Are you sure? According to Harry and Ron, you were behaving very suspiciously and had a whole master plan to restart the Death Eaters."
Lucius laughs at that, "They really are dumb and I thought Draco was exaggerating." Hermione glares at him.
"What? They are if they think that me walking around counts as being suspicious. I bet you 50 galleons, that if I start to raise my bound hands to scratch my nose, that the Weasel will run in here with his wand raised telling you to get back," Lucius said with a smirk. Hermione contemplates for a few moments before agreeing to his terms. Lucius then starts to reach for his nose while counting down from 10. Just when he hit 1, an angry red head appears wand raised, pulling Hermione behind him.
"Stay back Hermione, he's up to something," Ron states, not keeping his eyes off a now grinning Lucius Malfoy. Hermione just stays behind Ron shaking her head.
"What are you grinning at?" Ron asks Lucius.
"Nothing, I just came into some money and that always makes me happy," Lucius says, turning his grin back into the classic Malfoy smirk. Hermione bites her tongue trying not to laugh.
"Now, will you release Miss. Granger? We were in the middle of a lovely conversation before you rudely interrupted," Lucius asks, staring daggers at Ron.
"No we saw you, you were about to attack her, you were lifting your hands up," Ron defends.
"I was not about to attack Miss. Granger, I simply had an inch on my nose and was reaching to relieve it," Lucius states cooly. Ron lets go of Hermione's arm, before rubbing the back of his neck and giving a sheepish apology to Hermione for overreacting.
"Now that that is over can we get back to why we are all here?" Harry asks. "You have Hermione here, now will you answer our questions?"
"I suppose," Lucius responds.
"What were you doing in Borgin and Burkes today?" Harry questions.
"If you must know, my know-it-all daughter-in-law was interested in a particular antique and what its uses for werewolves are," Lucius states, while Hermione coughs to hide her laugh. Both Harry and Ron look at her with worry, but she just tries to tell them to continue without laughing.
"What does your daughter-in-law want with this antique? Is she planning on harming werewolves? What is her name, I would like to speak to her?" Harry asks quickly, worrying there might already be an attack in place that he needs to stop.
Lucius laughs at his obvious concern, "I can assure you Mr. Potter, my daughter-in-law, has no intention of hurting werewolves in any way."
"How can you be sure? I want her name now," Harry demands.
Before Lucius has a chance to respond there is a knock at the door. Auror Susan Bones, comes in and says that Lucius' family is here and requesting to see him. Harry realizes this might be a good thing, if the mysterious daughter-in-law is with the family, then Harry can ask his questions. Harry tells Susan to bring them back.
Lucius settles a little more into his chair. The show was about to get even more interesting than he thought. Hermione looks between Lucius and the boys and tries to prepare herself for what is about to come.
Draco Malfoy is in his potions lab as his best friends, Theo Nott and Blaise Zabini, come sprinting in.
"We've been looking all over for you, this building is too big," Blaise says while trying to catch his breath.
"Well you found me. What's going on?" Draco asked his friends.
"Blaise and I were out at lunch and we saw Potter and Weasley following your father, so we followed them. Draco they ended up arresting your father. I don't know what for but we should get down there," Theo says. Draco just nods his head and walks with Theo and Blaise to the nearest fireplace to floo to the Ministry.
Before they reach the Auror Department's front desk Blaise calls out, "Susan," to one of the Aurors. She turns her head and gives Blaise a smile.
"What do you want, Zabini?" Susan asks.
"Well, what I really want is a date with you this… Ouch! Draco what the hell?" Blaise looks over at Draco who just elbowed him in the gut.
"Ask her out another time," Draco says through gritted teeth."We're looking for my father Lucius Malfoy, these two saw Potter and Weasley arresting him, and we want to see him now."
"Let me see what I can do," Susan says and turns to go the other way before stopping and looking over her shoulder. "Zabini seven o'clock saturday."
Draco looks over at Blaise who is grinning like a fool. "Way to multi-task," Theo says, patting his friend on the back. After a few minutes they see Susan waving them over. "He is in room seven with Auror's Potter and Weasley, and for whatever reason Hermione Granger is there as well." At this news Blaise and Theo give a questioning look at Draco who just shrugs thinking that things are about to get more interesting.
Hermione is staring nervously at the door. Harry, thinking she is worried about coming face to face with her childhood bully, walks over to Hermione and puts an arm around her.
"You can leave, I know you have a bad history with Malfoy," Harry says, before he is interrupted by a laughing Lucius Malfoy.
"What's so funny?" Ron questions.
"You'll see," Lucius says, still laughing until he gets a glare from Hermione that shuts him up.
The door opens and in walks Draco Malfoy, Theodore Nott, and Blaise Zabini.
Harry speaks first, "Malfoy, Nott, Zabini." Which is returned by Draco's, "Potter, Weasley, Granger." Although he can't hide the smirk when addressing Hermione.
"Oi, wipe that stupid smirk off your ferret face," Ron nearly shouts.
Before anyone can respond, Harry steps up and says to Malfoy, "I was hoping your wife would be here Malfoy. I have some questions for her."
At this all of the Slytherins manage to contain their laughter while giving looks at Hermione.
"Why do you want to speak to my wife? And why has my father been arrested?" Draco asks Harry.
"Your father hasn't been arrested yet. He was taken in for questioning for suspicious activities that have now led us to needing to question your wife. We believe she may be planning an attack of some sort on werewolves and…," before he can finish he is cut off by Blaise laughing hysterically.
"I'm sorry guys, I tried but I just, oh this is just too good," Blaise says through fits of laughter.
Harry and Ron look back and forth between each other and the Slytherins trying to figure out what they are missing.
"Okay, I don't know what is going on here, but I need you to give me your wife's name," Harry states, starting to feel uneasy about the whole situation.
Draco looks over Harry's shoulder at Hermione, who gives him a nod.
"My wife's name is Hermione Malfoy, although you may know her as Hermione Granger. I can assure you she has no plans of an attack on any werewolves. Isn't that right, love?" He questions, while smirking at Hermione who had been slowly walking towards his side.
Harry, unsure of what is going on, looks at Draco and Hermione who are now right next to each other. Draco casually rests his arm over Hermione's shoulder.
"Look! I think Weasely is going into shock!" Theo says a little too enthusiastically.
Hermione runs over to Ron trying to get him to overcome his shock.
"You married the the ferret?" Ron asks in confusion.
"Yes, Draco and I have been married for nearly two years," Hemrione responds.
"Can someone please explain what's going on?" Harry asks, clearly confused.
"Draco and I re-met in Australia, when I was trying to figure out how to return my parents' memories. He was the one who actually helped me restore their memories and helped them forgive me." Hermione starts to get visibly upset and Draco comes over, and pulls her into a hug before continuing the story.
"Her parents were really upset that she used magic against them, and told her to leave the house and never come back. Since I was in the manor when Voldemort was there, I was able to explain to her parents the danger they would have been in had Hermione not removed their memories."
"After Draco's explanation they apologized and thanked me. Draco and I had already started to develop feelings for each other, but we waited until my parents' memories were restored to become an official couple. We dated for a little over a year, then got engaged, and then I became Hermione Malfoy," Hermione said with a bright smile on her face.
"Wait, that means you are Lucius Malfoy's know-it-all daughter-in-law?" Harry questions.
"Very good Potter I knew you would get it," Lucius says as Hermione rolls her eyes.
Harry looks at Hermione before saying, "and you don't want to cause any harm to werewolves, which means…," he started to trail off before Hermione finished his sentence.
"Which means, you took an innocent man in for questioning thinking he was restarting the Death Eaters, when in fact he was trying to help out werewolves."
"Well now I feel like an ass," Harry says.
"You should. Detaining an upstanding citizen like myself," Lucius exclaims. "Now would anyone like to release me from these bloody cuffs?"
Harry walks over to Lucius and unlocks the handcuffs.
"Finally!" Lucius says while rubbing his wrist.
"We're sorry for detaining you today," Harry says, reaching a hand out to Lucius. Lucius shakes his hand.
"So, you don't think he is trying to restart the Death Eaters? Right?" Hermione asks.
"No, obviously I was more on the bandwagon of Mr. Malfoy being the leader but obviously he's not,"Ron says while gesturing to Hermione and Draco who raise their eyebrows in question. "Well, no offense Mr. Malfoy but you would kind of suck as a Death Eater leader if your daughter-in-law is a muggleborn. I think it kinda defeats the purpose." At this everyone laughs.
"Does this mean you guys aren't mad at me and that you accept us?" Hermione asks, worrying about what their answer is going to be.
"Well obviously we wished you had chosen better than this git, but if he makes you happy then I'm happy for you," Harry says before giving Hermione a hug.
Hermione looks at Ron, "Ron? What about you?"
Ron grins before pulling Hermione into a hug. "I agree with everything Harry said. However, there is one thing that I would like to add." Ron then walks over and looks Draco straight in the eyes and says, "If you ever hurt Hermione in any way, you will have Harry and I to deal with."
Draco chuckles at that before saying, "you'll have to get in line."
"I'm sure her dad has a pretty good right hook, but I'm talking about magical harm. Harry and I are both Aurors and have fought dark wizards," Ron states smugly.
"Again you will have to get in line for magically kicking my ass, if I ever so much as harm a hair on Hermione's head" Draco states.
"Who?" Ron and Harry ask at the same time.
Draco glances over to his father who waves at them.
"You care about Hermione that much?" Harry questions Lucius. Which is met by a chorus of laughter from the Slytherins and Hermione.
"Of course, anyone who spends any time with the three of them knows who the clear favorite is. He would choose Hermione over Draco in a heartbeat," Blaise tells Harry and Ron who looked shocked, before looking at Hermione who just shrugs.
"What can I say I'm special," Hermione says displaying the Malfoy smirk.
"That you are," Draco says before kissing Hermione.
