Chapter 5

She looked at her younger brother. They had the same dark brown hair, but he had light blue eyes, almost gray. He had grown facial hair since the last time she saw him. He looked more grown up then she remembered. She didn't know what to say, but she was the oldest, "It's good to see you. You look good."

Simon smiled and spoke to Fin. He respected that he was protective of her. Olivia looked at him smiling and noticed that they shared a similar smile with Quinn. "Olivia, I did a lot wrong. I got your calls, but I was a real screw up and I was headed in the wrong direction. I almost cost you everything and you were ready to put it all on the line because I was your brother. You deserve better."

He explained he used his pharmacist job experience to get a great job as a pharmaceutical representative. "The hours are crazy and I'm busy. I travel so much, but I'm doing well and I make great money. I even have a girlfriend." He pulled out his phone and showed her a picture of her and him with her 9 year old son.

Tracy Harrison was a beautiful African American woman with long black hair and flawless skin. Her son was adorable. "He's cute and she's beautiful." Olivia watched him beam as he talked about them. Tracy was a model, but she was now pregnant with his child. "It's still early and we haven't told anyone yet."

Olivia was happy for him. She wasn't ready to tell him about her baby yet. "Should we go see Quinn?" Simon nodded and Fin eased up hearing the strides he made. They stepped on the elevator, but the awkwardness was still there. They heard the ding and stepped off one at a time.

Simon grabbed Olivia. "I wanted to be better than him." Olivia knew who he was talking about. "I wanted to be better for you. I wanted to give you a family that you could depend on." Simon hugged her tight and Olivia didn't know how much she needed it. She thought everything would be okay. They walked and Olivia told him she was pregnant. "Our kids will be the same age! I'm going to be an uncle!" She was glad that he was excited and explained more about Quinn and Kyle's situation.

Pippa greeted all of them and they sat at the oval table and discussed the situation. "Meredith showed up to Kyle's school today. She went crazy and was admitted to the hospital. Olivia, I have everything as far as the paperwork ready." She pushed it forward and Pippa explained about taking Kyle and Quinn.

Olivia read it carefully. She thought about her small two bedroom apartment. "My lease is up in a month and I was going to move anyway. I will need a bigger place, but I can make it work for now." Olivia cleared that Kyle would have his own room and Quinn would share with her. Pippa agreed and told her Quinn was having a hard time adjusting and wouldn't sleep alone as of now.

Pippa did ask Simon about his role. Simon smiled, "I just want to be a big brother and help where I can." He thought he had a helpful solution. "I have a condo you can move into." He told them where it was and that it had 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. "It's plenty of space."

Olivia listened and laughed, "Simon, I'm only a Sergeant. I think that's out of my league." He shook his head and explained his mother passed away and left him everything. Olivia was sad, she went to visit his mother at the senior living facility while trying to track him down. She didn't know about her death. "With the insurance money, I was able to put down a healthy down payment. I think the payments are doable. Otherwise I would agree."

Olivia thought it was too good to be true. It was in a good area and close to the squad. "What about you? Are you living with us?" Simon shook his head and explained he basically lived with Tracy and Ty. "She has her own money from modeling and my mother's house is on the market. I'll be fine, I want you all settled."

They had a plan and Pippa loved that they were working together. "Well they're here. Olivia, do you want to give her the news?" Olivia was nervous and excited at the same time. Quinn saw her and ran, "Olivia!" Kyle was smiling also as he hugged her. "Hey Fin!" Quinn was quick and pointed her little finger, "Who's he?"

Olivia told Kyle to sit and pulled Quinn in her lap, "One stop pointing and two this is Simon. He's my brother."

Quinn looked at Olivia and then back at Simon. She waved her little hand and grabbed Kyle, "He's my brother."

Olivia told them she had some news. Kyle knew about his mom already, but didn't tell Quinn anything bad. "Quinn, remember the swab. We were looking for your family?" Quinn remembered because she tried to throw a fit, but they promised it wouldn't hurt. "Well me and Simon have the same dad, but different moms. Our dad is Joseph Hollister."

Simon held Olivia's hand. He thought it must have been hard talking about him like he wasn't a monster. Kyle looked at them and then at Quinn. He blurted out, "Joe?" Then his jaw dropped.

Joseph Hollister raped Olivia's mother when he was 19 and working for a delivery service. He made deliveries to local colleges. He actually raped other women they believed. He went on antidepressants and started a real family with Simon's mother. He was a real father, but he began drinking heavily. One night when he was drunk he even called Olivia, but she had know idea who he was. He got drunk and drove with Simon in the car, he almost killed him. His drinking caused Simon's mother to leave him. She even changed Simon's last name from Hollister to Marsden, her maiden name.

Joseph was older when he met Harper, but there Quinn was years apart from her siblings. He probably thought kids were out of the question. Olivia nodded to Kyle and kept explaining, "Quinn, your dad and our dad are the same man. You're our little sister." They both looked at her and waited for some reaction. Olivia could see Kyle thinking. No one said a word.

Simon pulled out a picture of him and his dad. Olivia had seen that one before. He handed it to her to ask Kyle if that was Joe. Olivia passed it while Quinn tried to get a look. "That's him!" Kyle smiled, he had a good relationship with him and was sad when he died.

Quinn looked at the picture, then at her siblings. "I kinda look like y'all." They both smiled. Quinn hugged Olivia tight and looked at Simon. She whispered in Olivia's ear, but not really a whisper. "Do I hug him too?" Olivia nodded and told her it was fine. Quinn jumped down and hugged Simon for the first time. She was too young to question the age gap. Olivia began to wonder how long the secret of the real Joseph Hollister could stay a secret.

Pippa took over, "Quinn you and Kyle are going to go with Olivia for a little bit." Quinn looked at Kyle and questioned Meredith. Pippa let him be a kid for once. She had to be careful about what she said, "She's not feeling well. She's letting someone take care of her, so Olivia and Simon will take care of you two. How does that sound?"

She hugged Kyle tight. Quinn had empathy, "Is she sick like mommy. Is Kyle going to lose his mommy too?" Meredith wasn't well, but she hadn't been for a long time. It all just came to a head.

Pippa didn't lie, "She's not that kind of sick sweetheart, but she can't take the two of you right now." Pippa had gotten their stuff from the placement home. "Guys your stuff is there in the room next door. Why don't you start your homework while I speak to Olivia and Simon. Fin went to help the kids.

Pippa gave Olivia all of the paperwork for school. It allowed her to be the primary reach out person. It also gave her permission to deal with their healthcare and well being. She signed everything and Pippa took down everyone's information. She waved goodbye to them and promised to be in touch.

Fin drove them home and Simon followed. Quinn looked out of the window and had tons of questions. She wanted to know where they were going. How long were they going to stay? Did she have to eat all of her dinner before dessert? Olivia turned around, "We're going to my apartment. I don't know how long, we'll figure it out along the way. And yes you have eat before any dessert."

They walked into the apartment and Olivia showed Kyle the guest room while Simon, Fin, and Quinn pulled out plates for takeout. "You have your own bathroom. I know my place is small, but when I get things straight with Simon, we'll move."

Kyle looked around, "Thank you. I know you didn't have to take me. I will babysit or do whatever you need. I can get a job after school. I was going to quit baseball anyway."

Olivia shook her head, "I didn't know you played sports." He explained he did, but the back and forth. Plus his mom didn't pay his fees. "Okay, well I will take care of that tomorrow. Don't quit. I expect you to be a kid, I'll take care of the rest." Olivia didn't want his life to change.

They enjoyed dinner and Quinn ate ice cream after finishing all of hers. "Night!" Simon and Fin both kissed her cheeks. "Night Kyle!" Simon and Fin both gave him their cell phone numbers in case he needed a guy.

Fin left first and Simon stood at the door, "I'm out of town next Wednesday for a convention. Tomorrow I'll go to the bank and get the papers for the condo. I'll bring them by. Can I do anything else?" Olivia couldn't believe how grown up he was. "Hey, anything, I'm here and I'm not going anywhere. Please! I know I'm your little brother, but let me be your protector."

Olivia nodded, she needed help. She asked if he could pick up Quinn and bring her to the squad after school. "I'm dropping them off and I'll put your name down for pickup. I need a nanny." She told him about Kyle and he agreed, he wasn't a babysitter.

Simon promised to help. "I will pick her up and bring her. I will also stop by his school and take care of his fees." He hugged her, "Hey, I love you. I'm not going away this time." He looked at Quinn, "Hey, I'm picking you up tomorrow, be good." She gave him two thumbs up.

She put Quinn in the tub and checked on Kyle. He was doing homework. "Hey, don't stay up too late. You have to leave with me in the morning." He nodded. Kyle seemed like a good kid. "You know I am new at this parenting thing, but we need rules."

Kyle smiled, "I'm supposed to do my homework every night. School 1st then sports. No phone after 9 and in bed by 10. I'm allowed to go out Friday and Saturday, but not on school nights. Does that help?" She thought he was like a grownup and told him goodnight.

Olivia was putting Quinn in bed. "Okay, close those eyes. I'm going to take a shower and I want you to be asleep. School in the morning." Quinn started whining. "Hey, cut it out. Tomorrow's Friday and if you're good, we'll do something this weekend." She kissed her head.

She watched her eyes shut and Olivia went to take her shower. She washed as quickly as she could, climbed out, and dried off. She was brushing her teeth and heard Quinn talking. "Who are you? It's kinda late and you woke me up."

Olivia flew out and saw her on the bed with her phone on FaceTime with Amanda. She grabbed the phone, "If you were asleep like I told you, she wouldn't wake you up. Lay down!" Olivia looked at the phone and watched Quinn pout and climb in the bed again. She walked out, "Why did you FaceTime with her?" Amanda laughed and explained she hit the button. "Are you okay?" Amanda nodded, but Olivia knew. "Don't lie, I told you I would be here for you. I don't want you doing the wrong things."

Amanda sighed, "I don't like being in my apartment at night. But you have a full plate and that promise was made before all of that." Olivia looked at her and told her to come over, because she still had a sofa with the pull out bed.

Olivia got her text that she was there and went to let her in. "Come on in, she's still up." Amanda dropped her bag and apologized. "You didn't wake her up, sleeping has been an issue. Quinn's eyes looked over the cover, "Hi Amanda!" Amanda changed in Olivia's bathroom and came out.

She asked Olivia if she could try something seeing Quinn was wide awake. Olivia shrugged. "Come here Quinn." She pulled her in her lap. "I have a younger sister and sometimes she couldn't sleep and I would rub her back until she slept. Amanda rubbed and Olivia watched Quinn's eyes get heavy and close.

Olivia smiled as Amanda climbed from under her. "Wow, you have the magic touch. You helped your sister huh?" Amanda explained her parents argued a lot and she tried to make her feel safe. Amanda always gave her a little bit more insight every time they talked. Amanda said goodnight.

Around 1 Olivia heard a whimper and looked to see it wasn't Quinn. She walked into the family room and heard Amanda moaning. "No, please don't hurt me." She rubbed her face and watched Amanda flinch as she woke up. Her blue eyes showed fear. "Hey, it's okay. It's just me. I'm here." Amanda pulled her knees close, "I don't want to talk about it."

Olivia didn't push, "Okay, what do you want to talk about? How about our kiss?" Amanda looked up and Olivia was batting her eyes. "I know I'm not playing fair." Amanda smiled. She couldn't help it. Olivia leaned forward, "I liked it. I like you. I don't know why I'm drawn to you, but that kiss did something to me."

Amanda felt a chill over her body, she forgot about her nightmare and her worries. Olivia placed her forehead against Amanda's, "I also don't think it's fair to pull you into my mess. I want to be your friend. I want you to know me and I want to know you. And if you and I decide together after our friendship is strong that we want more, we can talk about that."

Olivia kissed her lips softly. "Friends can kiss though." Olivia sat back, "Go ahead lay down and I'll help you sleep. No one will hurt you as long as I'm around."

Amanda laid back. Olivia rubbed her blonde bangs away from her eyes. Amanda's eyes closed and opened. "You aren't playing fair with the kissing." Amanda had cute pouting lips like Quinn. She didn't respond and she watched her eyes close and not open again.

Olivia rubbed her back until she was positive she was asleep and then went back to bed herself. She kissed her forehead. She looked back, turning off the light and wondered what happened to her, but wouldn't push her.
