"Tornado what are you doing?" Gordon demanded of the young engine as he saw her thundering towards them.
Green Arrow backed himself to the buffers in the berth, jolting his fireman who gave a loud shout. He seemed to cower in the presence of Tornado who slowed to a stop before them.
"Tornado-" Flying Scotsman began but he was cut off by the Young Iron blasting steam at them.
"Why are you letting this nasty little engine manipulate you?!" She snapped angrily and Arrow visibly recoiled at her words.
"Tornado, you don't know what has happened here," Flying Scotsman told her. "Please calm down so we can explain what happened."
"No! I don't care, he tried to hurt you!" She said petulantly and Scotsman's expression hardened.
"Tornado you're angry and not thinking straight, you need to calm down," Gordon spoke and Tornado rounded on him.
"Don't you remember what he did!?" Tornado insisted to him. "He snuck on this island to scrap Scott! I won't let him do that."
"Tornado that's enough!" The Flying Scotsman barked at her. "Stop acting like a child and listen to me! Arrow is in danger and he needs to be protected. You can't go around accusing people without knowing the full story-"
"But he's a monster," Tornado said glaring at Green Arrow who suddenly appeared very hurt by her words.
"He's not the one who's blindly going around insulting people," Scotsman said his voice a low growl. "Right now you are only making yourself look foolish Tornado. I want you to go back to Tidmouth Sheds and-"
Scotsman was interrupted by a shout as Yvonne managed to wriggle free of the guard holding her and run to Green Arrow's cab.
"Someone stop her!" Sir Robert bellowed as he ran after her.
Yvonne managed to knock the fireman over and climb into the cab, releasing Arrow's breaks and causing him to move forward. Arrow began to panic, confused and looked desperately around.
The fireman, Jason, tried to wrestle her away from the controls but he suddenly gave a loud scream as she managed to stab him in the arm with a pocket knife.
She took the controls and put Arrow into steam as he began to panic and cry out in fright, not knowing what was going on.
"Green Arrow!" Scotsman shouted as the engine began to steam out and away from the shed's pure panic on his face.
"Someone help him!" The Scotsman bellowed angrily trying to turn his wheels desperately but it was useless, he wasn't in steam and his firebox was cold. He couldn't turn his wheels at all. "Gordon please!"
Gordon immediately tried to rush after the departing Arrow but as he did the points after the Smaller Gresley automatically changed and he hit them, his bogey wheels and front driving wheels derailing with a loud bang, a crash and loud cursing.
"Oh no!" He yelled out angrily realising that he now blocked Scotsman from leaving his berth. "Damn it! Tornado! You need to help Green Arrow! That woman is trying to get him scrapped!"
Tornado stood frozen on the tracks completely in shock at what happened.
"Tornado please!" Scotsman begged her clear desperation in his eyes. "For me! Please just save him!"
"I…" She didn't comprehend what was happening. But she'd never she Flying Scotsman look so desperate and never heard him plead like that.
"We'll explain everything later, just help him! Now!" Sir Robert yelled at her as he had run out into the yard.
Tornado was still stunned but her driver and fireman pulled her back to give chase.
Flying Scotsman and Gordon watched her with a mixture of fury and anxiety draw across their faces.
She had the sinking feeling that she had just caused something extremely terrible and serious to happen.
"I told ya we shouldn't have trusted that museum woman!" Diesel 10 snarled furiously at Boomer as he paced on the dimly lit mining tracks beside him. "She loves that engine too much! Pinchy almost had him!"
They currently sat underneath the Ulfstead mines, all around them, pitchblack Diesel 10's lamps the only source of light. It was dry and the air stank of rust and long spoilt coal.
"No, you had to go and mouth off to the Flying Scotsman and tell him our plans!" Boomer snarled thumping the Diesel's cab eliciting a snarl from the engine.
In an instant Pinchy had reached down and grabbed Boomer, swinging him before the Diesel's face.
"You were the one who said this would only take a day!" The Diesel snarled. "Why didn't you let me scrap him last night when we found him alone on the siding? We would have been done and back to the mainland by now!"
"We would have been seen or heard," Boomer snapped and Pinchy waved the man around haphazardly. "You wouldn't have outrun their bigger engines you idiot!"
"You just wanted to ruin my fun!" Diesel 10 shouted at him. "Pinchy snap him in half!"
Boomer only smiled at him and pulled out a lighter and some explosives.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you bucko," he sneered at the Diesel who only glared at him. "These mines are pretty unstable, you try anything and you and Pinchy will find yourself at the bottom of a sinkhole or a mineshaft."
The two glared at each before they were distracted by the sounds of a steam engine in the distance.
Slowly, the sounds of a steam engine began to echo around the walls of the mine but it sounded strained and broken, like it was driving with its brakes applied and grinding the wheels with horrible screeching noise.
For the darkness, a large green engine appeared, his face blank but tears streaming down his face.
Pinchy dropped Boomer who scowled at Diesel 10 before jumping to his feet with open arms in a mock greeting towards Green Arrow.
"Welcome friend!" He said his voice was oily and mocking. "So glad you could make it! My associate here was worried that wouldn't."
"Ay shut up," Diesel 10 snapped at him. "Pinchy was getting antsy and that makes me antsy."
Green Arrow did nothing, he just sat there with a blank look on his face, his eyes almost hollow. Pinchy snapped right in front of his face but he didn't react.
"Why ain't he scared like he was earlier," Diesel 10 frowned clearly annoyed. "He ain't crying, he's just sitting there like he got the cold iron sleep. I thought he was gonna be more fun and cry like a baby."
Yvonne jumped down from the cab to meet them.
"I managed to throw the Fireman out," Yvonne said with a smug smile as she approached them. "He won't be any hindrance to us scrapping Scotsman!"
Boomer and Diesel 10 glanced at each other before laughing at her. Yvonne's smug smile faded.
"You really believed that huh?" Diesel 10 taunted her with a sadistic glee. "The museum really does employ gullible ones, don't they?!"
The Diesel began screeching hysterically as Yvonne slowly began to realise.
"You, you weren't going to scrap that overrated piece of junk?" She began to stammer and Boomer grinned at her.
"Sure, it'd get us a lot more money if we did buuuut-" Boomer explained.
"All the engines hated Green Arrow, he was practically exiled from the mainland, heck even the Sudrian Engines hated him for trying to scrap Scotsman!" Diesel 10 laughed. "Who would ever miss a mute, sad, pathetic engine who always lied to people huh? He's like, the perfect target!"
"No one misses a little slimy sneak," Boomer smiled. "Trust me, I would know."
"Slimiest sneak I know!" Diesel 10 cackled.
"You're not so bad yourself," Boomer retorted and Diesel 10 just grinned and pinchy snapped a few times in Green Arrow's face.
Still Green Arrow didn't react to the threat.
It was almost as if he had accepted his fate and was now patiently waiting for them to get on with it.
Truth be told, Arrow hadn't cared for Scotsman's words back at the castle. Sure he had Scotsman's protection but now it didn't matter.
Not when Tornado thought of him as a monster. The one true friend he had ever had and now she thought of him as a monster.
He was used to people calling him a monster, a liar, a sneak and waste of space. It never bothered him, he was used to it.
But from Tornado… it had hurt.
It broke his soul.
He heard Yvonne arguing with Diesel 10 and the grifter but he didn't care.
Something about the way Gordon and Flying Scotsman yelled at her made her anxious. Not for herself, but for how desperate they sounded.
The fact that Sir Robert had stepped in and ordered her to find Green Arrow made her regret yelling at them.
Doubt began to seed in her mind.
She subconsciously knew that she had overreacted and that it was her fault that that woman, whoever she was, had hijacked Green Arrow.
She didn't want to admit it to herself though.
But the thoughts kept replaying constantly in her mind.
She didn't hate Green Arrow that much surely? Especially after seeing how hurt he had looked when she had called him a monster.
The Arrow she knew had an iron armour against insults. She'd seen him be constantly spoken down to or insulted by other engines in the past but it had never bothered him.
He'd even helped her not be as bothered when the other engines made fun of her for being new and young.
So why had he looked so hurt after she'd yelled at him?
"We've lost them!" Her driver Matthias cursed angrily as they wandered the tracks slowly. "Tornado! Why did you do that? I agreed to take you to Ulfstead Castle so you could talk to them. Not insult and yell at the other engines! What has gotten into you these past few months, you've started to become very disobedient and petulant!"
"I don't know!" She suddenly shouted angrily. "I just- I don't know, okay!"
She blasted steam angrily in response.
"Everything's changing! Truro does nothing but order me around! I've been overworked! I haven't seen my brothers for years, my best friend moved to Sodor and now I find out Scotsman and Green Arrow's are buddies now or something!" She yelled out angrily. "No one listens to me and I'm alone again! I'm just…"
Tornado blinked the tears that had begun rolling down her face away rapidly.
"I… I don't know Matthias, I'm sorry, I know I've been horrible but…" Tornado sniffed. "I just don't know. I'm so confused. I don't know what to do. I'm sorry, I didn't mean what I said I was just… angry and I don't really know why."
Matthias' hard expression faulted.
It was just like dealing with his teenaged daughter when she'd first started high school. So confused and lost about all these new changes.
Sometimes he forgot how young Tornado was.
She really was like a teenager in that sense. No matter the fact she was an engine, she was a very young and confused engine starting to realise how the world worked.
"We can talk later, Ms Tornado, and I promise we will," He said kindly. "For now, let's concentrate on finding Green Arrow, okay?"
Tornado sniffed unhappily but then her expression hardened.
"Okay," she said in a quiet voice.
Matthias smiled at his engine and gave her a reassuring pat.
For the next five minutes they travelled in complete silence, the only sounds were Tornado's chuffing and the fireman shovelling coal as they surveyed the tracks desperately.
"There!" Tornado suddenly yelled out as they approached a junction ahead.
Matthias hung out of her cab and saw the faint outline of a man in the darkness desperately trying to flag them down.
Tornado slowed to a stop as Matthias pulled the man into Tornado's cab.
"I'm Green Arrow's fireman, she took him, she took him to that new diesel that was trying to scrap him, the idiot's going to get Arrow killed!" He gasped for breath as he held his arm pain.
"Get him scrapped?" Matthias repeatedly horrified. "Why would she-"
"You have to help him please! Arrow didn't even resist her! He just suddenly let her lead him to his death please!" The man said desperately. "It was like he realised what was going on and just accepted it."
Matthias saw the panic in the man's eyes and glanced at his fireman before quickly pushing Tornado forward.
"Direct us," he ordered the trembling man who nodded frightfully.
Tornado pressed forward, a sense of determination filling her as a dark and icy cold wind curling around her boiler.
