A/N: pulled this out of the drafts from last year because kpop is annoying me so I don't wanna work on my ongoing kpop au LOL but actually think of jang wonyoung saying you're you and i'm me!
"Sasuke-kun, do you ever think about what would happen if-"
"I try not to," Sasuke cut Sakura off dryly. He didn't understand why she loved exploring hypotheticals so often. He normally loved talking with or just listening to his wife, but the "what ifs" were something he couldn't get behind. What if we weren't on Team 7 together? What if we weren't the same age? If you liked sweets do you think you would prefer chocolate or vanilla?
"You're no fun," she pouted.
He gave a small shrug and tried to explain himself. "I think that in another life you're still you. Maybe the setting is different, but you aren't all that different." Even if they were cowboys or something he'd ride his horse with Sakura because…well that's just what they would do. "We'll never know 'what could have been' even in this lifetime, so I don't like dwelling on what could've been done differently in the past either. I think you understand what I'm saying here." He'd learned so many lessons since stepping out of the darkness and regret wasn't going to help him move forward. Instead, he wanted to spend his time embracing what was right in front of him.
She did understand, so she steered the conversation into lighter territory. "So would you say that there's not a single universe where I'm not annoying?" She already knew what his answer would be.
"Nope," he answered definitively with a dash of humor dancing in his eyes.
"Is that so? You sound awfully confident."
He kissed her sweetly but briefly because he can feel the way she can't keep a smile off her face. Wanting to stay close to her, he bumps her nose with his and says, "You're always annoying. Thankfully."
There were certain undeniable truths about a girl named Haruno Sakura: she had pink hair, green eyes, and a wide forehead. To Sasuke, that's just what made Sakura, well, Sakura.
And he liked her the way she was. Loved her, actually. Part of what made the two of them Sasuke and Sakura was their love for each other. He made this abundantly clear when they got older, but he wasn't always so good at expressing his feelings towards her…
Sakura covered her forehead with her palm as she gazed into the river. Her reflection was a little warped, but she knew the rushing water had nothing to do with the big fat space on her face known as her forehead. She let out an exasperated sigh and started fiddling with her baby hairs. Maybe having bangs again wasn't a bad idea? "Dumb forehead," she said out loud. Ever since graduating from the academy she didn't have time to worry about her appearance, but Kakashi was late again and it led to some not-so-nice overthinking on her part.
"You would look weird without a big forehead," said a stilted voice on her left. It sounded forced at first, but with the way he sighed right after, it seemed he just had to say it.
Sakura turned towards him and dropped her hand, feeling more confused than anything. Was that a compliment or? But Sakura was a polite girl so she managed a hesitant, "Thank..you?"
He turned away, "Hn." He was about to keep quiet until he heard her grumble, "So I'd look bad with a small forehead? Does that just mean I'm ugly? Wow, rough life for me huh?"
He pivoted towards her again. No, that is not what he meant at all. He needed to make his point more clear. "You just wouldn't be you without it. Stop trying to change something that's not meant to be messed with." What it so hard to understand?
When Kakashi finally did arrive, he just had to ask. "Are you two alright? You're all red in the face." Naruto, on the other hand, was barely awake enough to notice.
"Fine," Sasuke muttered while Sakura insisted that she was feeling better than ever and ready to take on the day. Their teacher just smiled under his mask.
"So? Do you like it long or short?" Sakura asked as they stood in front of their bathroom mirror together. She tucked part of her hair behind her shoulder to see if she really wanted to cut it again or not.
"Doesn't matter."
"Doesn't matter?" Sakura repeated. "So you have no opinion on how my hair looks?" If only someone told her that during their academy days…
"As long as it's pink, I don't care how long it is," he clarified. He liked both bangs and no bangs too. "I can't imagine you without pink hair."
"You can't or you don't want to?" she asked with amusement. Sasuke had grown more resistant to change as the years went by — he was already like an old man who loved his routines.
"Can't," he insisted.
"You're no help."
"And I'm not sorry," he said, wrapping his arms around her waist and burying his face in her neck. She could fuss with her hair all day for all he cared. It's not like she could ever look bad.
She tsked. "I think it's you who's the annoying one." She gave her hair one more appraising look before leaning into his strong chest and letting her eyes flutter shut.
Sasuke squeezed her a little tighter. "Ah, now you understand. Luckily we can be annoying together." Just two annoying people who were very, very in love with each other. And he wouldn't have it any other way.
A/N: sasuke trying to avoid thinking about what if he never left when sakura just wants to know if he'd still love her if she was a worm :0
Also Sasuke loving pink
