There was one thing that Jo Gilbert always hated. School. She knew that she couldn't stay at home, but that didn't mean that she wanted to go to school.
Last summer, My parents died in a car accident. They were on their way home with my 'twin' sister, Elena when their car went of Wickery Bridge. Only Elena survived the accident, but no one knows how. Elena included. To be honest, I kinda wished that it was Elena who died and I knows that is harse, but after the accident Elena changed. She wasn't the only one who changed. Our little brother, Jeremy changed as well.
Elena started mothering us and to the point that I want to rip her throat out...with my teeth[AN: see what I did there :)]. Jeremy started doing drugs and he has been sleeping with Vicki Donnovan this past summer. But he thinks that no one knows(But I do). Our aunt Jenna came to live with us, but she is not ready for parenting yet. She still acts like the cool aunt instead of an authority figure which doesn't help(ecspecially with Jeremy and Elena).
Me, well I try to make it easier for Jenna. I do all the cooking and cleaning in the house while Jenna helps with laundry. The other two do absolutely nothing except clean their own rooms.
Jo closed her diary and looked at her clock to see the time. She wasn't surprised that it wasn't even 6:00 yet, so she put on her jogging clothes and went for a jog in the woods. Running always calmed her down and it also gave Jo time to think about life. Jo was different than her siblings. How was she different? Well for one, she was a werewolf.
Yeah, I know. She found out when she was around 12, because that is when her first transformation started on the full moon. The transformation wasn't painful , but Jo couldn't control it and killed someone that night and her eyes will always be a reminder of that. How will her eyes remind her? Well before she killed that boy, she had gold glow in the dark eyes but afterwards her eyes turned into a beautiful ice cold blue when she shifts. That was also the day that she found out that she was adopted.
She figured it out when it was only her that was going through the shift and no one else from the family. And where Elena and Jeremy had brown eyes and hair, she had a beautiful shade of sapphire eyes and raven hair which she kept just above the shoulders.
Well after she found out that she was a werewolf, she realised that on the night of the full moon that she loses control so she usually locked herself with chains at the Gilbert boathouse but after around 5 months, she could control her shift even on the full moon. What else she found out is that she was faster, stronger and had better senses than a normal person. She was also aware of two plants that were poisonious to her, namely wolfsbane and missletoe. Let's just say that it was not fun finding that out.
Anyway, Jo was lost in thought as she ran through the woods when all of the sudden she stops. She suddenly turns and at the edge of her vision, she swears that someone is standing behind the tree but when she blinks, the person dissapears.
Not wanting to expose herself, she runs back home. When she gets home, it is still quite early so Jo wnet and showered. After her shower, she picked out her outfit. A black AC-DC t-shirt, blue skinny jeans and her black converse.
After getting dressed, she can't help but smile at how good she looks and head downstairs to the kitchen to make breakfast for everybody.
" So what are we eating today, my chef?" Jenna's voice rang through the kitchen.
"Bacon and eggs. You know, the usual" Jo replied dishing up for poor hungry Jenna. Jenna started eating ASAP and finished when Elena strolled into the kitchen.
"Elena do you want food" Jenna asked as Elena went straight for the coffee.
"It's all about the coffee, Aunt Jenna." Elena replied after seeing her aunt doing the dishes. When she finished making her coffee she sat and finally noyiced Jo sitting at the table. "Hey, so are you okay" she asked which just irritated Jo more. First she ignores her and then she has the audacity to ask if she was fine. It's like Elena didn't care about her.
Just before Jo could reply, Jeremy waltzed into the kitchen. "Is there coffee?" he asked strolling straight towards Elena and stealing her cup of coffe which just made Jo giggle at his antics. Elena looked on as he drank her coffee before making herself another cup.
" Your first day of school and I'm totally unprepared." Jenna stressed as she fiddled with her walet "Lunch money?" she asked, holding the money in her hand.
Both the girls refused while Jeremy quickly snatched the money before stuffing it into his hoodie. Elena gave him a look which said that she knew that the money isn't going for lunch. "Anything else? A number two pencil? What am I missing?" Jenna asked throwing her hands into the air.
"Don't you have a big presentation today?" Elena asked our aunt, amused by Jenna's anxiety and her aunt nodded.
"I'm meeting with my thesis advisor at..." she glanced to look at her watch and groaned in frustration. "Now. Shit!"
"Then go!" the brunette said ." We'll be fine." she reasured.
After Jenna left, Elena turned towards Jeremy. " Are you okay?"
Jeremy sighed, annoyed and walked past Elena. "Don't start" and he was gone.
Elena looked as if someone ate her canary, but Jo didn't care. Not one bit.
Before Elena could ask her if she was fine again, they heard a honk from outside. " Well, that's Bonnie. You know if you want, she can give you a lift?" she said nervously and for good reason. I don't like any of her friends.
Jo stared at her blankly, but shook her head. " no, thanks. I would rather walk to my death than to hang out with those people that you call friends" she said smiling at the own words.
"You could've just refused." Elena said giving her a pointed look which meant 'We will talk about this later' which Jo just ignored and walked outside to see Elena get in Bonnie's car and leave.
When she was gone, Jo took a jog at a normal humans pace toward the school and within 20 minutes arrived at the place that she calls' HELL'
At school, Jo focused her hearing and heard Elena talking with her friends. Caroline was still being a bitch, Bonnie was still judgey as fuck and Tyler was still an alpha grade asshole. Not paying attention to them worked well in her opinion, but sometimes it got lonely on her own. At least her anchor was anger, because if it was anything else she would've probaly shifted in front of everyone by now.
Jo walked to her locker and saw how Matt was looking at Elena and her heart broke for the poor kid. He was just being used by the slut and he doesn't even know it. Poor kid.
After getting all her books, she went to her first class of the day. History. When she sat in her seat, the bell rang and student began piling into the class.
"Okay, class is starting" came the voice of the teacher that nobody liked. Mr. Tanner. "Let's cut the cit chat. Bonnie I'm talking to you"
Bonnie just blushed in embarresment while Tanner calmed down the rest of the class. To Jo's surprise, the was a new student that was sitting next to her but he kept giving Elena these 'googoo eyes' that made her want to vomit. And what made it worse is that Elena gave him those eyes as well.
'Ahhh, fuck me' is all Jo could think after looking at the pair.
"We're starting unit one, the origin of Virginia's split into two different states," Tanner declared after their attendance had been taken, they went over the syllabus when Tanner continued his oh so great lecture. " Once our home state of Virginia joined the Confederacy in 1861, it created a tremendous amount of tension within the state. People in Virginia's northwest region had different ideals than those from tradisional deep south. Can anyone tell me when the states officialy divided?" he asked looking around the classroom ,"Miss Gilbert?"
Both Elena and I looked at him with questionable eyes and he clarified.
"Jo"
"1863" Jo answered.
" Yes thank you," Tanner said pointing towards Jo, "like Jo said, Virginia divided in 1863 with the northwest region joining the Union..."
Jo looked proud that she actually knew what the teacher was talking about before feeling someone loo at her. Turning in her seat, she locked eyes with the new kid, who was staring at her with disbelief. Shaking away weird thought, she turned back to the teacher and listened to the boring lecture.
After school was done, hte first thing Jo did was run to the Grill. She was hungry for some fries, burger and a milkshake. And she will not be denied.
When she arrived at the Grill, she put in her order and waited at the bar. Before her order was done, a handsome man walked into the grill. He had raven black hair and the coldest of blue eyes. And not to mention how sexy he looked in a leather jacket.
As if sexy could hear her thoughts, he walked toward her with a smirk on his face and sat next to her.
"So, is this seat taken?" sexy asked with a damned smirk on his face. Was he born with one on his face or what.
"No, but I'm just waiting for my food then I... will be gone" Jo shrugged.
The guy sat next to her and just stared at her which started to annoy her so she turned back to him and asked "what?"
"How rude of me. I'm Damon Salvatore and you are...?"
"Jo Gilbert"
Damon looked at Jo with his ever-present smirk and extended his hand to which she shook it. "It's a pleasure to meet you"
"You too" Jo replied looking in his eyes and getting lost in those oceanic orbs of his. She was so out of it that she didn't hear what he said which caused her to blush in embarresment.
"Wait, what. Can you repeat that?" the wolf asked, clearly embarresed getting lost in thought.
"Yeah, I asked if you are busy tonight?" the sexy vamp asked, twirling his bourbon with his hand.
Wait bourbon?
When did he order bourbon? Probaly when she was spacing out.
Just then her food and shake arrive, "Well, then you will have to see and wait ,now won't you" she stated writing something on the napkin before taking her food and leaving.
Damon took the napkin that she left on the table and inspected it. On it stood her name and number with a message.
Jo Gilbert
005-765-9943
Call Me xx
He smirked and finished his bourbon and left. After all, Stefan doesn't know he's here. Yet.
"I'm meeting Bonnie at the Grill." Elena said getting ready to leave.
Without thinking, Jenna replied "Okay have fun." She paused, stopping in her tracks and turned toward her niece. "Wait, I got this. Don't stay out late, it's a school night." She said trying to sound stern.
"Well done Aunt Jenna." Elena applauded her then turned towards Jo when Jenna walked out of the room with a triumph smile on her face.
"Are you sure that you don't want to come along? It might be fun."Elena asked looking concerned at her sister.
Jo nodded at the doe-eyed teen. "Yeah. You know how much I like your friends?"She said giving Elena a pointed look that was returned to her.
"How can you expect to make friends when you don't put effort into being nice to the people around you?" she asked giving Jo the judgemental eye.
Sighing, Jo stood up from her spot on the couch and approched Elena. Standing in front of her sister, she put her hand on her shoulder "Who says I want any friends?" she smiled sweetly at Elena that gave her the chills.
"And by the way. I'm nice to a lot of people." She finished dropping her hand from Elena's shoulder and walking upstairs.
In her room, Jo sat and heard the doorbell ring and focused her hearing at the door. Hearing how Elena flirted with the new kid and accusing him of stalking when he brought back her diary after she dropped it was funny to hear. After a few more moments, Elena and new guy both left so Jo went back to just laying on her bed pretending to do something proactive.
Not long after, her phone began to ring and without thinking she answered.
"Hello?"
"So you actually gave me your real number, miss Gilbert" came the teasing voice of a certain raven haired blood sucker, which actually made the she-wolve smile.
"Seems like I did, mister Salvatore."
"You know that you shouldn't give your number to strangers, right?"
Jo could practically see the smirk on his face even though she only spoke to him once and that was for about ten-ish minutes while she waited for her food.
"Well, I don't care what people think about me." she said.
"Is that so?" he chuckled.
This was all new to Jo. She wasn't used to feel like this. Free!! She wasn't used to feel free. Talking to Damon… it was refreshing, because she knew he was honest and didn't hide who he is, unlike her own 'sister', even if she had only spoken to him once… it was a more honest conversation that she's had in years.
"Yes. And what will you do now that you have my number?" she asked feeling a bit daring. Maybe it was her wolf that wanted to ravish that sexy hunk of man meat.
Shaking away those thoughts(for later), she returned her focus on what he was saying.
"What will I do with your number… " he said humming while he thought over h8s answer. "I think that I will have to speak to you in person to answer that."
Jo practically jumped from her bed. The idea of him sneaking into her room filled her with such excitement, but why would she be excited. She only knew him for like 10 minutes. Maybe it was just her teenage hormones mixed in with her wolfy ones.
"Umm, come to my room and we can talk more if you like." She said suddenly nervous.
"That would be hard if I don't know where you live."
"Yeah sorry. I will send you the address in a few."
"See you soon" he said and hanged up.
After sending him the address, she straightened her room up a bit and before long a knock was heard on her window. The knock scared her for a second but after calming down, she opened the window and saw Damon sitting casually just outside her room on the tree.
"So are you gonna let me in?" he asked, his mouth splitting into a smirk that she just couldn't wait to kiss off that face of his.
"Yes, you may come in" Jo replied, motioning inside and he climbed through the window with such ease.
Once inside they proceeded to talk for about 10 minutes before they were on each other, kissing and removing clothes as they fell onto the bed where the real magic began. After they finished, Damon bid a quick farewell before anymone could find out that he was in town(Stefan) and not even 5 minutes after he left, Elena had come home with Stefan with him bidding her goodnight at the door.
Jo didn't actually care of what Elena did or will do. Plus she was way to tired to even care if Elena likes the new kid. She was on cloud nine at the moment and nothing and I mean nothing will change that.
