Chapter 3
"Hello Dutch, didn't expect to see you here," replied Kreese coolly.
Dutch glared at his former Sensei. The man who tried to kill one of his best friends. He followed Kreese's teachings, and it landed him in prison. It was time for him to pay.
"Funny, I was going to say the opposite to you," scowled Dutch. "What happened? Caught choking out another kid!?"
This remark angered Kreese who jumped out of his seat. He stood face to face with his former student ready for a fight.
"Come on Sensei! Strike first! Just like you taught us!" urged Dutch as he shoved Kreese backward.
Kreese jumped into action throwing a punch at his face. But his former student was ready and dodged it quite easily countering with a swift kick to Kreese's stomach. Kreese was about to respond when he felt a nightstick strike his ribs. The guards came to break up the fight.
"ON YOUR KNEES! ON YOUR KNEES!" shouted the guard. "KREESE! You just can't behave, can you!? Maybe some time in the hole will do some good."
Dutch was instructed to return to his cell while Kreese was being forced out of the mess hall by four guards. Kreese looked at Dutch who had a menacing grin on his face.
"Get over it Dad!" exclaimed Robby on the ride to Mexico City.
"How can I! He was such a wuss in '84!"
Robby had explained Daniel's adventures in Okinawa to his father. He told him about Daniel's rivalry with Chozen that ended in a Karate deathmatch. Johnny was in denial that Daniel was badass enough to accept a challenge to a deathmatch. Despite this, the ride to Mexico went surprisingly smoothly. They crossed the border without any problems and encountered little traffic along the way. They were almost in Mexico City when Robby's phone rang. It was Tory.
"Robby! Why the hell are you not at practice?" asked Tory. "Sensei Silver's wondering where you are?"
"Ooh right! Sorry, I got caught up with something. Can you tell Sensei I'm sick or something?" asked Robby.
"And are you going to tell me what this something is?" inquired Tory.
"Long story… Look I'll be back soon, and I'll explain everything to you I promise," Robby assured Tory.
"Fine. Good luck Robby, with whatever it is you're doing."
"Thanks, Tory"
"Shut up dad," Robby replied to Johnny's smirk as he put away his phone.
They were finally passing the welcome sign into Mexico City. Robby checked Johnny's phone to guide his dad to Miguel's location. The phone showed him in some bar nearby.
"Just call her you pussy!" Miguel thought to himself. Just in case anything went south he needed to talk to Sam again. They had never talked properly about what went down during prom or Miguel leaving the tournament. His thumb was hovering over the call button as he thought about what to say to the girl he loved. He realized that he needed to keep it simple and remind her how important she is to him.
"Miguel! Everyone is so worried about you! How could you just leave like that!" cried Sam.
"I'm sorry Sam! This is something I need to do," answered Miguel. "I hope you can understand."
"Of course, I do Miguel," assured Sam. "I can't imagine living my whole life without ever knowing my father. Anyways, not that I'm complaining, but why exactly did you call me?"
"Because I miss you. We haven't really talked recently apart from the tournament," answered Miguel. "I just wanted to make sure we were okay. I'm sorry about what happened at the prom. I guess neither of us handled it very well."
"I'm sorry too. I guess I got caught up with everything and forgot about us," said Sam. "But we are very okay! Just make sure you get home safe. There's always senior prom!"
"Right," laughed Miguel. "I lo- … uh I'll see you soon. Don't worry too much everything will be fine."
Sam hung up the phone smiling. She knew exactly what Miguel's slight stutter was about and it made her look forward to his return even more. She found Señor Octopus in the corner of her room and embraced him tightly saying:
"I love you too."
Miguel hung up the phone smiling. Talking to Sam was exactly what he needed. Despite all the nastiness of the Karate war and his paralysis over the past six months, she's been the bright light of his life. However, as much as he was tempted to go home to her, he needed to do this. Miguel waited at this table for over an hour until someone finally sat across from him.
"So! I've been told you were looking for me."
