Day 9: Croissants
Marinette didn't usually work in the bakery during lunch, but both her parents had their hands full in the kitchen trying to finish a big order. There was no one in the shop anyway so she was just watching the counter while she ate her quiche.
The bell chimed, signaling the entrance of a potential customer.
"Good after-" Marinette raised her head, only to be surprised seeing her kitty of all people walk through the bakery door. "Chat Noir?"
"Good after yourself, Marinette," he greeting her back teasingly.
"Ha ha, you're hysterical," she replied with a roll of her eyes. "Can I get you anything?"
"Why yes," Chat said, strolling up to the counter. "I have a craving for croissants. And I believe that the only ones in the whole city that can satisfy my craving are sold right here," he explained like he was reciting a poem before offering her one of his signature charming grins.
Marinette just smiled with a light shake of her head. This kitty was extra Chat Noir today. "Well, you're in luck. Papa just pulled some out of the oven a few minutes ago." Marinette grabbed a small bag and a pair of tongs and made her way over to the racks with the croissants still on the baking sheets. "How many do you want?"
"Three. No, five," Chat quickly said, excited.
Marinette whipped her head back to him. "Five? Are you buying these to share with someone or are you just that hungry?"
"Hey, fighting akumas and protecting Paris works up a tremendous appetite," Chat told her, patting his stomach.
He was very hungry indeed. He didn't have to go home for lunch that day but he made everyone think he was so he could transform and come there. Marinette's family pastries were ten times better than any school food and a hundred times better than his lonely model diet meals at home.
Marinette sometimes offered him the unsold pastries when he came over to hang out some evenings but today, he wanted them fresh for lunch. And he didn't mind paying for them.
"Here you are," the bluenette said, handing him the bag of croissants.
"And here you are, princess," Chat replied, handing her the exact amount of euros from his suit pocket.
Marinette watched as Chat immediately took one of the croissants out of the bag and took a big bite.
"You know, they say that if you feed a stray, they'll just keep coming back for more," she said teasingly. "But since you're a costumer, I can't just turn you away."
Chat swallowed. "When the food is this good, this stray will always keep coming back," he pointed to himself before giving her a wink. "Have a nice day, princess," he said sweetly before turning and walking toward the door.
"You too, kitty," she said just before he opened the door and left.
Marinette shook her head, her smile never faltering. That charming rascal was too much sometimes.
When lunch break was almost over and Marinette walked back through the main doors of the school, she felt someone bump into her from behind.
Upon turning around, she saw the body belonged to her crush. "Marinette, hi! Sorry about that," Adrien apologized profusely.
Marinette just smiled. "It's fine, I'm fine, everybody's fine," she tried to tell him calmly. It was almost funny, as she was usually the one accidently bumping into him. As she continued to smile at him, her eyes glanced down slightly at something sprinkled on the front of his collar bone. "Oh. Adrien, you've got a little something on your shirt," she told him, gesturing to her own shirt in her upper chest area.
If she had to guess, they looked like flakes from a croissant.
Adrien looked down, his eyes going wide at seeing the crumbles before quickly whipping them away.
He couldn't believe those crumbles stayed there after he detransformed.
See u tomorrow =^.^=
