Hi guys! So this is my first Fanfic and I hope you like it! If your going to comment please only leave CONSTRUCTIVE criticism or nice comments. Also trigger warning, there is grieving and a close family member dies. Enjoy! :)
Eliza asked the question again, waving her hand in front of Alexanders face this time, she finally seemed to get his attention, and so she quickly spoke before his attention turned away again.
"Alexander! Did you hear me? What would you think about selling this house and getting another one that's uptown where it's quieter? Personally, being in this house isn't helping my health because I just keep thinking of…him. And I don't think it's doing you any favours either, so maybe a new place and a new start will help." Alexander looked at her blankly. She couldn't tell what he was thinking. Eliza thought he had zoned out again, but just before she was about to wave her hand in front of his face again, he nodded and said in a weary voice
"Yes, that may help. Let's start looking at some point." Eliza knew that was the end of that conversation so she said
"Ok" she went back to eating and when she had finished, she picked up her and Alexander's plate and she went to wash them up. She ate the rest of Alexander's plate which still had all the food she had made on it. Why Eliza bothered to make dinner when he wasn't going to eat it, she didn't know. While she was washing the plates, she couldn't help but let some of her tears mix with the soapy water. It had been just over a week since Eliza and Alexanders' oldest son Philip had died in a duel. Eliza had been overwhelmed with grief ever since she had felt his hand go limp and cold in hers when he had died. She grieved quietly though, she didn't make to much noise as it would disturb Alexander who was in a worse condition then her. Alexander had been in a stage of grief where he only got out of bed to come down to eat or to go into Philips' old room and cry for hours on end. Every time Alexander was in Philips room crying, it was her job to go in there and get him out and back into their bed.
Eliza finished cleaning up and went to check on Alexander. As usual he was in Philips room, she went into the room and immediately felt like the weight of the world had been dropped onto her shoulders and if she didn't balance it right, she was going to be crushed by it. Painful memories of her and Philip laughing together flooded her mind. She gently went over to Alexander who was sobbing on Philips bed, and dragged him out and put him in their room for the fifth time that day. She sighed and this time went and grabbed the key to Philips room. She had always kept the key up high and hidden so she had to push a chair over to get it from the top of the cupboard. Once she got it she went and locked Philips door. She didn't want to get Alexander out of there one more time. She put the key back and she then went into her room where Alexander was asleep. She got in her nightgown and got into bed after her long day.
She woke up in the middle of the night to hear Alexander talking to himself. He was asleep but he was obviously having a nightmare. She could see the sweat that was forming on his forehead. Eliza listened to what he was saying in his sleep.
"Philip. Take these, Shoot for the sky and you won't get hurt. No, he won't if he's a man of honour. I can't lose you, your mother can't lose you. I've hurt her enough already. Philip! No no no, he can't be dying, no. Have to get to the hospital. Philip! No! Eliza! Eliza! Eliza! He's gone! No. No. No. He's dead. No, no, no. Eliza! Eliza! He's gone! He's gone! Eliza I swear! I didn't mean it for him! No, Eliza, don't go! please!" Alexander suddenly sat up in bed. Eliza pretended to be asleep. He sat up and started to cry. Eliza had no idea that he had been having nightmares about Philip dying, she had had a few the day Philip died but no others. She had mainly been dreaming of playing with Philip, not of him dying. She pretended to stir and wake up. Alexander turned to her and sniffed. He then said to her
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to wake you up. Go back to sleep." Eliza sat up.
"Alexander? What's wrong? Why are you crying?" Eliza wondered if he would tell her the truth or if he'd make up a lie.
"I'm ok, I just had a bad nightmare. Go back to sleep now, you need it." Eliza thought that he was the one who needed sleep. So she lay down and then whispered through the darkness
"I'll go to sleep, if you go to sleep, you're the one who needs the rest. We can talk more in the morning." she felt the bed move as Alexander lay down and they both went back to sleep.
So that's my story! I hope you enjoyed it and that, even though it was a bit short, it brought a smile to your face! Have an absolutely amazing day, and thankyou for reading! :)
