Carrie hummed happily to herself as she made breakfast for her teachers and Avengers. With the use of her telekinesis, the kitchen was her domain as she practically danced around the food and utensils. That was how Steve, Tony and Thor found her when they woke up that morning.
"You are really milking this power for all it's worth." Tony stated as Carrie turned around from stirring the pancake batter in her arms as she used her power to cook potatoes, eggs, and catch the toast the jumped out of the toaster.
"What? I thought it would be nice if I made breakfast for a change." Carrie shrugged as she levitated her still whisking bowl and called the coffee pot to her hand and summoned the mugs and creamers to her.
All three men sat at the counter and watched her work her magic before their beverages slid towards them. Tony took a sip of his coffee and groaned, reveling in the taste. "You really are an angel."
Carrie grinned at his reaction as the other two followed suite and drank from their mugs. Carrie resumed her work, dancing to the radio as she made everything float and fly to her will, filling giant serving plates left and right before levitating them towards the table.
Bruce, Natasha, and Clint came to the dining room just in time to see a huge breakfast buffet being set up before their eyes. They all watched in amazement as Carrie moved her hands in an elegant manner, opening cabinets and drawers to call forth plates, forks, spoons, knives and napkins and methodically placed them before the chairs of the massive table.
When the last fork touched the table, Carrie turned to her audience and bowed. "Breakfast is served." Tony released a laugh then clapped in response, everyone joined in on the applause. Each of them marveled at her use of telekinesis and how heavenly the food smelled to them.
"Carrie, this looks and smells fantastic." Thor complimented as he deeply inhaled the aroma.
Carrie smiled in confidence as she moved everyone's chair back for them to sit. "Glad you like it. Oh, before I forget." Carrie rushed into the kitchen to bring something to the God of Thunder. His grin vanished when he saw what Carrie was holding in her hands. Everyone paused in reaching for the food upon seeing the object in the young girl's fingers.
Thor's hammer.
"I found your hammer on top of the fridge next to the pancake batter mix." Carrie stated as she held the mighty weapon like it was nothing. "This could fall and hurt somebody. Aside from kitchen knives and forks, weapons are not allowed in the kitchen." Carrie gently scolded her teacher for carelessly placing his weapon in such a place.
Thor, gaping like a fish, pointed at the hammer. "How are you able to pick it up?"
"I simply wrapped my fingers around the handle and lifted it." Carrie explained then tested the bizarre weightlessness of the hammer. "Honestly, it doesn't feel like a hammer. It's so light. Are you sure this is a hammer?" Carrie asked in confusion as she tossed the weapon from one hand to another like she was playing hot potato.
Tony and Clint nearly doubled over at Thor's dumbfounded expression at how Carrie was handling his precious weapon. No one told Carrie about the enchantment Thor's father placed on the hammer, that only the worthy can wield it. No one in the Avengers, aside from Thor, could pick up the heavy bastard, but it would seem Carrie was deemed worthy to hold it like it was natural.
Carrie sighed, not noticing the attention her action garnered. "Anyway, please keep an eye on your stuff, it does not belong in the kitchen." Carrie said as she handed the hammer back to the shocked into silence God of Thunder. Thor held his hammer then glanced at his team who were just as astonished by what they just saw.
Carrie sat next to Tony while Thor occupied the seat next to her as he gently settled the hammer on the ground beside his chair. All the Avengers helped themselves to the food the telekinetic humbly prepared. She grinned in pride at how each of them marveled at the taste of her cooking, many of them fighting over seconds. When breakfast was over and most of the food was consumed, everyone helped clear the table while Carrie packed the leftovers away.
With the kitchen and dining room clean and cleared, Carrie went to the training room to start her weekly session with Thor. To put it in lamest terms, use her power to hurdle large objects at the man as he dodges until they both tire out.
Carrie plopped down on the bench and drank from a water bottle as she wiped the sweat off her neck with a towel. While using her power in combat exhausted her, she was happy to better herself to become a better Avenger.
"You lasted longer than last time. You're definitely getting stringer with your powers." Thor compliment as he flipped the hammer in his hand.
"That's because I've had a good teacher." Carrie said with a smile as she stared up at the lovable giant.
Thor smiled at the girl rather fondly, her humble compassionate nature and sweet personality made her seem almost unlikely to be an Avenger. But deep down, he could see a warrior waiting to break out and guard against evil. He glanced at his hammer, the very weapon his father enchanted to make sure only the pure of heart could hold it. This girl, though weak in appearance, possesses a strong pure heart.
"Thor, is everything okay? You've been rather quiet at breakfast." Carrie asked when she noticed how Thor barely said a word when they ate together.
Thor laughed under his breath then took a seat beside her on the bench. "It's not that. You just amaze everybody." He said as he stared at the hammer in his hand.
"I only wanted to do something special for everyone for all they've done for me. Making breakfast was the best way to convey my gratitude. Plus, it was fun using my powers like that." Carrie grinned, unashamed at how she used her powers to cook.
Thor laughed, "It's not just that. Carrie, do you not realize how special you are?"
Carrie tilted her head in an innocent manner, "No, why?"
Thor lifted the hammer, "You were able to pick up Mjolnir."
"Yeah, why, is that a problem?" Carrie asked, unsure why lifting a magic hammer makes her special.
Thor glanced down at his weapon as a soft melancholy smile graced his lips. "You know the story of how my father banished me to Midgard?"
Carrie nodded, "Yes, he did it to humble you into the man you are today?"
"That's right. When he sent me to this world, he placed an enchantment on Mjolnir, a spell that only the worthy can and wield its power." Thor smiled with pride as he turned to Carrie's wonder filled eyes. "You're the only one on this team beside me who is able to lift."
Carrie's delicate fingers traced the design of the hammer. "Why me and not the others? They're heroes too."
"Mjolnir's selective. It senses the pureness of your heart and sees how noble you are to a fault. Mjolnir deems you worthy of its power." Thor explains as he held the weapon out for Carrie to take. Though she was hesitant at first, she grasped the handle with firm hands and lifted it out of Thor's.
Carrie smiled in wonder, "It feels very strange."
"It does, doesn't it? Mjolnir is more than a weapon of war; it is a tool used to protect the innocent from those that would dare harm them. Should anything happen to me, it is up to you guard them with the power Mjolnir entrusts to you when you need it." Thor explained to the young girl who looked up at him with wide eyes at how he would gift his greatest weapon to her in the event of his possible death.
"Thor, I-" Carrie didn't know what to say to such a big task the God of Thunder was placing on her. All she did was lift a hammer.
Swallowing her saliva, she gave the weapon back to Thor. "Thank you, Thor, but I'm not sure I can wield Mjolnir. Worthy or not. This hammer should stay in a God's hand." She humbly stated as Thor took the hammer with an understanding smile.
"Well, the offer still stands. Should the moment arise, you'll be ready for it." Thor stated as he gave Carrie a gentle squeeze on the shoulder. Even if Carrie doesn't consider herself worthy of Mjolnir, he'll always believe in her and wait for the day when she is ready to wield it. For now, he'll continue to train her, guide her, be her friend and big brother-figure when she needs him.
This is just a sweet drabble I couldn't resist writing because, let's face it, Thor is a lovable protective big brother Carrie needs in life. Thanks for reading. Leave a thought in the review box.
