Luz groaned as she got up. She looked around and sighed.
"I was hoping it was a dream." She said.
She got up and went to the front of the cave. She knew she wouldn't last long here if she didn't have the right tools. She created a mental check list. She needed something to keep her warm while she was outside. She needed food, that would be a problem. In her Plant Magic class, she learned there as only two types of edible plants on the Knee, one of which was filled with a highly lethal poison, similar to human cyanide.
"I'll cross that bridge when I cross it." She said.
She also would need water. It would be easy if she could find something to use as a pot, then she could boil the snow into water and purify it. Right now, the snow was covered in seeds, leaves, and insects.
"Okay, I should focus on the essentials." Luz said, "I need tools and food."
Luz walked back to what's left of her fire, which is just ash and charcoal. She grabbed Owlbert and screwed him back onto the staff. She picked up her knife and left the cave.
"I need to do this before it gets too cold."
She moves out to the cold unknown. In the Emperor's Castle, Lilith has returned from her vacation. She walked to the Emperor and kneeled.
"My Emperor, you called for me?"
"Yes. I have some... bad news, Lilith." Belos said, "I didn't want you to learn while you were on your vacation, but... Edalyn was murdered."
Lilith stood up and looked at him.
"What?"
"I had cured her of the curse, offered her a position in the Coven, one next to you, I even gave her apprentice a spot in the training school her friends were placed in. Everything seemed to be going well. Then a wild witch attacked them. Destroying part of her home and killing them all. It would seem that her magic was weak, which is why I sent her home, so she could recover from the effects of her curse." He placed a hand on Lilith's shoulder, "I'm sorry, for your loss. I will give you time to grieve."
Lilith looked down and her breathing hitched.
"Thank you."
Lilith walked out of the room. The second she made it to the hallway, the dam broke and she started crying, uncontrollably.
"I-I-I'm sorry, Edalyn... I'm sorry I couldn't have done something sooner."
On the Knee, Luz returned to the cave, with stones, sticks, leaves, and any other material she could get her hands on. She was freezing and quickly put together another fire. She struck her knife against the flint and let the sparks ignite the fire. She sat next to the fire and grabbed a long stick. She put her knife against the stick and started to sharpen it. After an hour, she had several sharp sticks that she'll be able to use as spears.
"Okay, I have a few spears, I can at least fight back against now." She said, "Okay, think, what classes are probably the most important to know?"
She thought about it for a second before settling on three.
"Alright, Plant, Healing, and Beast Keeping are probably best for here."
Luz held her stomach as it growled. She wasn't going to make it a week if she couldn't get some kind of food. She grabbed a spear and her knife and went back out. It was time for her to get food, and hopefully something else that could help her. The hunt is on.
