After the encounter with the wild witch of the knee, the failed coven guards headed back to report what they learned to the emperor.
"I see you failed." Belos said, "You underestimated her, didn't you?"
"Forgive us, we did. But we did learn something that we felt you should know." Amity said as she, Gus, and Willow bowed to Belos.
"Speak." Belos said.
"The wild witch had an old tome in her possession, one about petrification. It's a simple hunch, but I believe she may be searching for a way to reverse it." Amity said as she looked up to him.
Belos made humming noise.
"She's trying to reverse the process, most likely to free the wild witches that have been punished by the Titan and start a rebellion." Belos said, "You need to destroy the book, no matter what."
"Yes, Emperor Belos." They said.
"You're dismissed."
They left the room and went to a room to discuss what they had to do.
"So, how are we going to destroy the book?"
"We aren't." Amity said, "I am."
"What?"
"It's clear that the three of us will bring to much attention, but only one of us won't be as noticeable."
"And you're sure of this?" Willow asked.
"Yes... I need this." Amity said, "You heard what that witch did to Luz, I need to bring them in to face true justice."
"Amity... you remember what happened when you learned about Luz?" Willow asked, "Do you remember how you threw yourself into your work, how you made it your mission to bring in every wild witch."
"We don't want you to end up going back into the hole again." Gus said.
"I'll be fine, as soon as I bring this witch down." Amity said, "I'll tell you what happens when I get back. I need to find out where she lives."
On the Knee, Luz was cutting the trees she cut into logs. She had worked up a good sweat and got them into logs, ready for cutting later this week. She put the axe against the cabin and went inside. She got in her ghillie suit, making sure to put her mask on. She had to hunt, so she had her bow and quiver. She ran into the woods, knowing that migrations go through here, so there should be some big game for her to take down. Luz put an arrow against the string and listened. She heard the call of a herd and moved to intercept it. Luz crouched down and moved through the thick bush, until she came upon a herd of Styll. The only way to describe them, were American Bison with Gigantism. Twice as tall, heavy, and long as a normal Bison. They are usually only in the fields of the left leg, but they travel to the knee during the rainy season, in order to avoid the rise in sea level. Luz has killed a Styll one time. The meat lasted her AND Blizzard a week. Not to mention the horns, those can be useful for Luz, she can make several things out of them. Luz scanned the herd, looking for the weakest one. She may be able to kill a strong one, but that's only if it's alone and she has more than the handful of arrows she currently has.
'There's an old one by itself. That's the best bet.' Luz thought.
Luz pulled the arrow back and aimed the bow up. She fired the arrow and... it hit the target. The Herd ran, but the old one was unable to keep up, being too old. Luz charged with another arrow notched and fired, hitting the Styll in an eye. Luz quickly pulled out another arrow and pulled the string back. She fired again and hit it in the head, it was taken down and Luz smiled.
"Alright, there's food for the week." Luz said.
Luz picking it up and carrying it. Having to hunt dangerous animals, cut down trees, and several other reasons led to Luz becoming pretty strong.
"Weak nerd arms no more."
Luz got back to her cabin and noticed that Blizzard was sleeping, not that unusual as she slept a lot, but there was something different about this. Luz dropped the Styll and ran to the stable. There were purple stains on Blizzard's fur, right around her mouth.
"Languorous Berries?" Luz said, "But there aren't any nearby. This means-"
Luz heard someone clear their throat and Luz pulled an arrow back and aimed behind her. To her shock, she saw the book.
"Nice book you got here." Amity said, "Would be a shame if something happened to it."
