Amity thought she was dead, she waited for the killing stroke, the arrow to her head... but it never came. Instead, Amity looked to her left and saw the arrow, right next to her head. Luz walked over and pulled the knife out of Amity's shoulder, not caring if she hurt Amity worse. Amity screamed as Luz moved to pull the arrow out. Luz ripped the arrow out, wiped the blood off in the snow, and put it back in her quiver. Luz began to walk towards her cabin.
"Wait, Luz-"
"Get away from me." Luz said.
"Luz, I'm your frie-"
"The fuck you are!" Luz said, "You gladly joined the person that has made my life a living hell! Do you think I'm living here, away from everyone and everything I cared about because I want to!? After what Belos did to Eda... get away from me Amity, and never come back."
Amity picked herself up and started to walk towards Luz.
"Luz, please-"
Luz turned around and aimed an arrow at her.
"Take one more step and I will let the string go!" Luz said, "I promise, I won't miss this time!"
Amity saw the look in Luz's eyes, she was being truthful. This was no longer the Luz she knew, this was no longer the girl she loved, this was a broken, hurt Luz.
"We are no longer friends." Luz said, "As long as you are sided with Belos, we are considered enemies, and if I ever see you here again, I WILL kill you."
Amity knew there was no point in arguing. One, she was going to bleed out, two, Luz was too far gone. Whatever happened to her, it must've affected her badly. Amity looked at the ground.
"Fine, then I guess the next time we meet... it will be to the death." Amity said.
Amity turned away and walked away from Luz, silently crying. Luz didn't let the arrow down until Amity was out of sight. She put the arrow back in the quiver and went over to the pile of ash that was once the book. She reached out and touched it, not feeling so much as a piece of paper. Luz felt tears run down her face. The only thing that could help her save Eda, gone.
"I'm sorry, Eda, I'm sorry I failed you again." Luz said.
Luz wiped her tears away and grabbed her rope. This wasn't going to stop her, there has to be another book in that library, there has to be! Luz sprinted towards it and refused to stop for anything.
