There was a loud thud as a small figure hit the ground again. Six-year-old Teddy Lupin got up for the seventh time and threw down his broomstick in despair - He was never going to be able to fly.

Teddy sat down and put his head in his hands, feeling like a complete failure. Moments later, he heard footsteps and looked up to see his Godfather walking towards him.

"Are you alright, Ted?" Harry asked, his bright green eyes shining with concern behind his glasses. "What are you doing down there?"

"I keep falling off my broom," Teddy muttered. "I'm never going to be able to fly."

"Course you will," Harry said gruffly, ruffling his hair. "You just have to practice."

"I've been practising every day," Teddy said. "It's impossible."

Harry bent down so that his face was level with Teddy's.

"Nothing's impossible if you have enough nerve," he said calmly, but there was a blazing fire in his bright green eyes that made Teddy believe that anything was possible.

"It's impossible for me," Teddy said sadly. "Everyone knows that I'm clumsy."

"You're not clumsy," Harry said firmly. "You can just be overexcited at times. Don't give up, Ted. Life is full of falling off brooms but the thing that you have to remember is to get straight back on after falling off."

"Have you ever fell off a broom, Harry?" Teddy asked.

"I did," Harry said. "I fell fifty feet from my broom once when I was playing Quidditch at Hogwarts."

"Fifty feet?!" Teddy exclaimed and Harry chuckled.

"My broom got destroyed when I fell off and when I was able to get another one, I got straight back on," Harry said. "And that's what you should do, Ted. Don't let falling off your broom put you off. Get back on there and don't let it get you down."

Teddy felt a surge of hope after hearing Harry's speech. But concerns still remained and he told Harry about his fears of not being able to play Quidditch when Harry's baby will be older.

"I'll tell you what," Harry said calmly. "I'll help you get going on your broom and once you feel confident enough I'll let you go off by yourself. Does that sound like a plan, Ted?"

Teddy nodded and Harry helped him get on his broom. It turned out that he had done quite a few things wrong which explained why he kept falling off. Once he was on the broom correctly, Teddy felt his heart thump in his chest.

"You ready, Ted?" Harry's voice said from behind him as he was also holding onto the broom and keeping it steady.

Teddy nodded and Harry said that he was going to count down from three and when he reached zero, Teddy was to kick off from the ground with his feet.

Heart thumping in his chest, Teddy readied himself; He was going to do it.

Three

He was going to fly a broom without falling off.

Two

He was going to one day soar in the clouds like Ginny did at her Quidditch matches.

One

What if he wasn't ready? What if he fell off as soon as he kicked off from the ground?

Zero

Teddy didn't have time to dwell on that; He kicked off from the ground and was hovering. Harry ran along with him and he was soon gliding along the Orchard. Harry ran faster and Teddy felt the wind in his hair.

"Don't let go, Harry," he called.

He was going faster and Teddy kept telling Harry to not let go. But somewhere along the line, he felt as if a great weight had lifted from his broomstick and he felt light and free. It took him a moment to realise that Harry wasn't holding onto his broomstick anymore but instead of feeling panicked, he felt a great rush of exhilaration.

He flew higher over the treetops. He was so high that Harry was a tiny pinprick on the ground. He flew amongst the clouds and around the Burrow. He enjoyed the wind in his face and the way his hair whipped out behind him.

He dived towards the ground and let out a cheer in exhilaration. As Harry was getting closer and closer, Teddy could see the grin on his face and the pride in his eyes. He landed with a small thud six feet away from Harry and ran to his Godfather and gave him the biggest hug that he could.

"I did it, dad!" Teddy exclaimed without thinking. "I did it, I flew!"

Harry was silent for a moment as he gave Teddy a fierce hug.

"I'm so proud of you, Ted," Harry said after he pulled out of the hug and wiped his eyes which were brighter than usual.

Teddy felt as if he were on top of the world and happiness swelled in him like a balloon.

"I never thought I'd be able to do it, until I did it," Teddy said excitedly and Harry chuckled.

"I'm surprised how high you went," he said. "How about we go back to the Burrow and tell Molly and Bill about how well you did? I'm sure that they're dying to hear about it."

Teddy followed Harry back to the Burrow and he couldn't believe how well he did. He was glad that he didn't give up.
