~ Some years later ~
"Shouldn't you be on stage too?" Kim asked the identical copy of the girl, that was accepting a reward for her latest invention. Well, not as identical, since Tara was brought to the stage by her husband because of the needed support due to her being heavily pregnant. "You worked on the project too, so isn't it logical to share this moment with your sister as you usually do? I mean, you both had your first kiss on the same day, gotten proposed on the same day, gotten married together-"
"That was some wedding, you have to agree, Kim."
And Kim Possible had to agree, despite her reservations and, frankly, nonbelief that it would be anything but a disaster since Ann Possible relinquished her duties of planning the double wedding of her sons after the merry-go-round that was the preparation for her daughter's wedding with the said daughter never actually being there to do things properly. So with trepidation - that was not shared by her parents - Kim arrived to the research facility (couldn't they think of a less romantic place?!) where the wedding ceremony was to take place, but instead found herself in a paradise. The ceremony was to be held in the aisle between the rows of vines that were covered in huge blossoms of every color, the natural floral decorations that could not be archived by a wedding florist. The magical atmosphere was further enchanted by the lanterns with green pulsing glow inside. Kim didn't need to be told what it was, because she was intimately familiar with the glow and the pain it could evoke, but here… everywhere around the plantation, the lanterns turned it into a fairytale. How could that be possible?
The woman, to whom the glow belonged, was barely recognizable too, even if she did not change much in twenty years – superpowers must be helping with aging too. Shego was wearing a long black dress (black to a wedding? The whole standard approach to weddings hardly mattered to unconventional Radfords). Kim watched her interact with the groomsmen, who wore green lab coats (that seemed kinda appropriate) and bridesmaids, organizing them in rows. Kim recalled the conversation she overheard during the rehearsal dinner (a surprisingly cozy affair by all accounts) between Drakken and his wife – still words Kim couldn't say without flinching – where Drakken complained that if they add twelve more households to the campus, they'd turn into a city and need to elect a major with the bureaucracy that usually follows. To which Shego answered: "Major Radford… I like the sound of that." Kim expected Drakken to jump at the chance, but his answer was the exact opposite: "You know you have my vote, Shego dear, and I'll even make a donation to your election fund, but don't bother me with anything else."
"You are not going to run yourself?" Kim asked with disbelief. Surely, power was what he always wanted.
"Shego is the people person, I'll stay in the lab where I belong."
And Kim had to agree with Drakken on that. It was obvious during the day the Possibles spend at the lab that the Radfords were the power couple everybody respected and looked up to. Without even striving for, they archived domination over a little piece of the world making it theirs. It was bizarre… But Kim had to admit, she was happy for them to finally find a place that suited them both. Somehow, she was going to miss snarky matches Drakken and Shego had while trying to take over the world. Well… they were family now. The shocker!
Kim still couldn't get over Shego's black dress. And it wasn't even the dress, but how regal she looked with the perfect posture and the hair updo that showed off the perfect line of her neck and shoulders. And the necklace with three black diamonds surrounded by emeralds. Kim had to give it to her former adversary – the woman was gorgeous and she knew it. Kim wondered, how people reacted when she appeared with her husband during public functions they started to attend since the success of his scientific work. At least the tabloids loved them. Not that Kim followed them or anything. And Shego's daughters were her exact visual copies, so Kim was not that surprised they turned her brothers' heads.
Kim got back from reminiscing, seeing Shego in yet another drop dead gorgeous black dress, sitting near her husband, observing her daughter receiving the award.
"Don't you find it unfair, Jara? It is your award too. You do everything together. Well, at least you two are not pregnant at the same time. But I doubt, something like this could be as coordinated as your work."
"Firstly, Kim, Tara deserves that award since it was her project, I still have time to get mine. Secondly, we are not identical twins. We look exactly the same, since dad removed all his genes that pertain to appearance, but we are actually fraternal and are different in a lot of ways. And as far as pregnancy is concerned… I am just not showing yet," Jara dropped her bomb on unsuspecting Kim, leaving her to ponder the fact that she was going to be aunt twice in one year.
….
"You look like one proud papa."
"And why shouldn't I be, Kimberly?"
Kim shuddered at the from of address. It was clear that Drakken would never call her Kim even if they were related now, just as well as she would never call him Drew, but the way he used her full name still irked her. "Got a trophy case ready and everything?"
"We do have something of the sort in the facility's lobby, but it's Tara's choice to display it there or not."
"And I thought you liked to count all the awards weekly if not daily… Aren't they your legacy?"
"Strange that motherhood didn't make you grow up, Kimberly. Those awards and diplomas are just things compared to my true legacy – my daughters, who will continue my work. And if they fail… Hopefully, their children will continue their attempts to eradicate world hunger. And the consequences of climate change."
Kim was truly moved by Drakken's unexpected words. She recalled the tweeds' words about motherhood changing Shego. Clearly, fatherhood changed Drakken too. And Kim understood that very well since her own children made her see world in a completely different way, especially when she retired. And in no way were they taking up her mantle of fighting crime and everybody was okay with that.
"So… you think the kids will be normal?" Kim asked, referring to the upcoming generation of Radfords.
"Now that would be just plain boring, Kimberly."
Drakken's all too familiar sharky grin confirmed her fears – her nieces or nephews will be far from normal. But when were their lives ever normal?
…..
"Look, what I found in the post today, Drew darling."
Drakken moved his glance from the computer monitor towards the hip that was placed at the corner of his work table by his wife. Was it an appropriate behavior for a working environment? Of course not. But who could stop Sandra Radford from doing whatever she wanted, mayor or not? Absolutely noone. The pose and the dress were extremely flattering and put her sex appeal at full display, but he still managed to drag his eyes towards the red envelope Shego was holding in her hands. And he knew exactly what it contained.
"So I assume, you want us to go."
"But of course, we could not miss such an important event."
"So I could show off my brilliance."
"Of course, but also-"
"To blind them with your beauty and most definitely a new jewelry set you must've ordered right away."
"Naturally."
"At least you asked for my permission this time. RSVP we are going, in triplicate if you want."
"Of course, darling."
Drakken rolled his eyes at Shego's attempt at demureness. At least this time, there is no possibility of failure since they were together for real, so even if they fall, they will help each other up again.
