Nicole had completely forgotten about her phone. So when Waverly passed out from the medicine and the nurse started working on restitching her, she went to check it out. She had several missed texts from Wynonna, most of them cursing her out for not answering her fast enough.

"You should go grab some coffee. She may be out for a bit," the nurse said as she was treating Waverly.

Nicole nodded and whispered a thanks, she turned around and took one more look at her wife. She gave a sad smile and walked out the door right into Wynonna, who had been walking rather quickly.

"HAUGHT WHAT THE HELL? I've been texting and calling all morning." She started handing Nicole the clothes she had brought from home. "Where are you going? What's going on? Is Waverly okay?"

"Wynonna relax," Nicole grabbed her sister-in-law's shoulders to stop her from spiraling. "Waverly is okay. She woke up this morning and we talked and she laughed and she's going to be okay." She let go of Wynonna and grabbed the clothes out of her hands. "She did rip her stitches so there's a nurse fixing them in there right now and she's asleep again. Come with me to grab coffee and we'll come back?"

Wynonna agreed and followed Nicole through the halls to the cafeteria. "Did she say what happened to her?"

"I asked but I don't think she's ready to talk about it. Whatever they did, its going to stick with her."

Nicole finished making her coffee and went to pay for it. The cashier insisted it was free. Without her and her wife things could have ended in tragedy at Shorty's, she said. Everyone knew of Waverly's sacrifice. The small town was full of gossip. But in the end, thankfully, no one was killed. She wished Waverly a speedy recovery and that they caught the bastards who did this. Nicole smiled graciously as they made their way back to Waverly's room

"Then she will have us as long as she needs," Wynonna finished the conversation she had started in the cafeteria. "I won't leave until I know she's okay."

They reached the door Nicole peaked in, noting that the nurse was still in there, although it looked like she was cleaning up.

"What about Doc and Alice?" Nicole asked then lowered her voice to continue. "If Jolene is around no one is safe."

Wynonna took a moment before responding. "Doc and I talked about it. He's going to come by and see Waverly with Alice when I give him the okay and then they are going to head back to Montana. Waverly is going to need me here and I know that she has you, but I want to be here for her. And for you. You're my family too."

"Thanks Earp, that means a lot."

The nurse stepped out and told them she was done with restitching Waverly up. "Be careful that she doesn't keep ripping them Sheriff," she finished and walked away.

Wynonna slapped Nicole as hard as she could on her shoulder. "Couldn't wait to jump her bones and you ripped her stitches?" She joked.

"Well it is our anniversary you know," Nicole retorted, rolling her eyes.

"SHIT! I forgot Haught, I'm sorry."

"It's literally the only reason you're here," she laughed as she pushed open the door to Waverly's room.

Wynonna got her first glimpse at Waverly as she entered the room. She hadn't seen her since they had pulled up to the hospital and she wasn't sure which sight she hated more. Yes, right now she was in a good place and was going to pull through, but seeing her hooked up to the machines, a breathing mask on her face, a face that was paler than anything she had ever seen, made her heart hurt. She had looked less pale when she was bleeding out.

"Oh babygirl." She approached the bed and grabbed her hand. "She was laughing?"

Nicole pulled up the chair for Wynonna which the nurse must have moved and grabbed another for her. "Yes. She is still our Waverly. Nothing can stop her."

"In hell?" Waverly questioned, still walking away, still not turning around.

"Where else would I go when you killed me? Heaven?"

Waverly finally stopped and turned around. Jolene was still where she had woken up and was staring at her with a raised eyebrow. She honestly didn't have words. Everything seemed beyond comprehension. She felt as if it was all a dream and maybe to some degree it was. Apparently, this was all in her subconscious, if Jolene was to be trusted.

"There's an Earp haters club down there let me tell you. Between Wyatt, Wynonna, and everyone in between." She started to walk towards Waverly now, hands held behind her back. "But you know what everyone agreed? They agreed that the best way to get to Wynonna, to really hurt her, was through you."

She was getting closer but Waverly couldn't find it in her to move away. Jolene was known for her lies and trying to destroy her but for some reason Waverly was believing everything she was saying. in this state, she trusted her. What the hell was going on?

"I mean everyone knows she has a daughter," she continued, "but you have been by the heir's side the whole time. You're just as culpable. More so for some of us. So we made a proposition."

"We?"

"Me. And Eve." That part shocked Waverly and must have read on her face as Jolene continued. "Some others too but spearheaded by us. But that's where she went when Doc kicked her through those doors. And so we met in hell. She gave up most of her powers to get back to you. To make you suffer. When we met on Earth we were patient. And now we have you."

"Then why don't you just kill me? Maybe you can't but Eve certainly can." Jolene just stared at her until Waverly remembered. "Right, my powers. Eve doesn't have hers and she needs mine. But why?"

Jolene grinned now within arms reach of Waverly. "Same reason as before. To destroy humanity. But we wanted to start with you."

Waverly felt a tightness in her chest. It was getting hard to breathe. How was she having trouble breathing in her subconscious? The edges of her vision began to darken. She recognized what this was. She was having a panic attack.

"Why is her heart racing?" Nicole questioned as the beeping on Waverly's monitor picked up. Wynonna just shrugged as she stood up and grabbed her sisters hand.

Waverly's eyes shot open. She pulled her hand away from Wynonna and placed it on her chest. She tried to sit up but couldn't because Nicole was holding her down.

"Baby, baby, you're okay," she was saying as she held her wife down. She carefully moved her face so she was looking into her eyes. "Take a deep breath. You're okay. We're here."

Waverly did as Nicole instructed and soon her heartrate slowed down. She closed her eyes again as she regained control of her breathing and body. When she felt satisfied with how she was feeling she opened her eyes again and looked at Nicole and smiled. What would she do without her? Then she turned and noticed her sister with her wide, fearful eyes.

"You look like you've seen a ghost," Waverly joked.

Wynonna's wide eyes turned teary as she let a loud laugh. "Don't scare me like that babygirl," Wynonna said as she pressed a long kiss to her sister's forehead.

Waverly reached out her hand and held Wynonna's. "How long was I out that you're here?"

"You don't beat around the bush...or maybe you do...that's none of my business," Wynonna rambled with tears still in her eyes.

Nicole was quick to cut her off. "There was going to be a party. That was my surprise for you. Wynonna, Doc, and Alice. I know you miss them."

It was Waverly's turn to cry. She dropped Wynonna's hand, grabbed Nicole, and pulled her in for a kiss. "You are the sweetest."

"This is sickening," Wynonna interrupted. "I'm going to call Doc and you two wonderful aunts will see your favorite niece."

Nicole and Waverly just laughed as Wynonna stepped out. The normalcy of everything was comforting.

Don't worry, this isn't going to last. Things are about to change for the better.
