Whiskey Lullaby version Deckerstar:

It has been a year now since that fateful day, the day he found the vial in Chloe's purse. For the first time in his life, he thought he had found someone he could trust with his heart again. He should have known that it was too good to be true.

Chloe, the woman who made him feel again, had turned against him and tried to send him back to Hell by poisoning him. She believed the words of a stranger who she didn't know than to ask for his version of his story. She didn't have faith in the man who worked beside her day by day for the last couple of years. Lucifer really thought they had a connection, that for the first time someone would actually see him and not the consequences of his teenage rebellion.

Lucifer was known for drinking and using drugs. He had always done that but his friends and brother had become rather worried about him. They had seen him closing himself off from everything and everyone. He stopped entertaining the visitors to his nightclub. No more one-night stands, no more playing the piano for the customers. The only time he would come down from the penthouse was to get another bottle of scotch when he had drunk so much that he had run out of private stock.

Linda, Ella, Dan, and his brother Amenadiel visited him regularly, not that Lucifer spoke much; the only thing he did was drink or do drugs while laying on the couch or in his bed. In the beginning, he tried to scare the humans away with his devil appearance from head to toe, bat-like wings included. For Ella and Dan, it hadn't been easy seeing it the first time, but it still didn't stop them from visiting him. Ella had convinced Dan that the devil had a bad rap. That they knew Lucifer and only tried to scare them away because Chloe had obviously done something to break him. Dan knew Ella was right though. Lucifer wasn't scaring them out of pure evil but because he was hurt. Amendiel did help by explaining who his brother really was nowadays. He did confess that he once thought his brother was evil but that he had been mistaken and had to learn to know and appreciate his brother. Maybe him falling from grace himself had a little something to do with that as well.

Amenadiel had also told the three humans that it was impossible for Lucifer to kill himself, he would need Azrael's blade for that. What Amenadiel didn't know was that Lucifer had been hiding exactly that blade.

Lucifer was lying in his bed and every bottle of alcohol he had was empty again. Every drug he possessed had been used. He had been playing with Azrael's blade for over an hour now. He had written letters for Ella, Dan, Linda, and his brother. He was tired of this pain, tired of being called evil incarnate, he was just tired of being broken. "Nobody would ever really love me anyway, so what's the use of being alive?" Lucifer sighed before he looked at the ceiling, "I am sorry for everything, Dad." That was the last thing he said before he plunged the knife straight through his heart, too late to hear the sound of the elevator.

"Lucifer?" sounded like a female voice, "Lucifer, are you in here?" The voice hadn't rung through the penthouse for a year now. It was the voice of Chloe.

Chloe saw him lying in bed, "Lucifer?" She walked down the stairs with caution, she was here to apologize and ask him for forgiveness. Linda had talked through her emotions. Made her see that she couldn't live without him and that she at least had to try and talk to him.

Her hand flew in front of her mouth, she took a deep breath and stepped closer to him, hoping to still feel a pulse, even the faintest heartbeat would be a good sign. It was of no use. The devil, her Lucifer, was gone.

She took her phone out of her pocket, still shocked over what she had found, and dialed Linda's number. She knew that Amenadiel was still angry with her so he would not answer.

"Hello." Sounded from the other side of the phone. Chloe didn't respond though, "Chloe?" Linda tried after a couple of seconds.

"Linda, can Amenadiel come to the penthouse? It's an emergency. I think Lucifer is dead." Chloe said while sobbing. She had just found a little note and her picture next to him on the bed. The note simply said, "I can't go on without Chloe. I can't live with the pain anymore, tell her that I loved her until my last breath. Love L." The letters would have been read in private. He would make sure that Ella and Dan would get them.

"Chloe honey, are you sure you didn't dream it? Lucifer is immortal and invulnerable, remember." Linda asked in confusion.

"No! I didn't dream! I wish I was. I am at the penthouse at the moment, he stabbed himself with a white-looking dagger." Chloe almost yelled, "I was here to apologize, hoping we could at least be friends again."

"The blade of the dagger, is it a bit icy looking?" She heard Amenadiel ask, clear worry in his voice.

"I can't see the blade, it's in his heart but the handle is," Chloe responded and seconds later she heard a whoosh. She stepped out of the bedroom and saw Amenadiel walking in.

"Where is he?" He asked. The angel was really worried now, he couldn't sense his brother anymore.

"In his bed." Chloe said with red puffed eyes, "Please tell me you can do something for him."

Amenadiel ran past her and sank to his knees next to the bed, "Oh, Luci, why didn't you talk to me?" The dark-skinned angel sighed, "The only one who can do something to reverse this if he is willing is Dad." He took the letters and put them in his pocket.

"I would go if I were you, Chloe. Dad won't be happy with you. If he had wanted Lucifer dead he would have done it himself." Amenadiel growled, "Luci, would never forgive me if something happened to you. See that as the only reason that I am warning you. He really loved you, Chloe."

The young woman took a few steps back before running down the stairs and towards the elevator. She disappeared out of the penthouse.

Amenadiel took Lucifer's body in his arms, his head against his brother's shoulder while his arms were hanging lifeless next to his body. The dark-skinned angel swallowed, he found out a few days ago that Lucifer's banishment had been lifted eons ago.

He stepped outside the balcony and unfurled his wings, flying his brother back home where he belonged. He had done the same thing with Uriel, his Dad never blamed his once fallen brother.

The flight didn't take long before he walked through the gate. Everyone stepped aside and formed a line from the gate to his Dad's palace.

His father had a meeting in the throne room when Amenadiel barged in with his eyes red and puffed. His cheeks were wet from his tears. Azrael's blade is still in his brother's body. He laid down Lucifer in front of his Father's throne, "Please Dad, tell me you can help Lucifer?"

God came from down on his throne with shock visible in his eyes, his strongest archangel, broken. "Samael?" he asked in a whisper as he slid down on his knees and took the body of his son in his arms, and it was as if he hoped his son would scold him for using that name. He stroked the cheek of his fallen son. Before placing his forehead against his son's and started crying for the first time ever.

"Who did this to him, Amenadiel?" His Father asked with anger in his voice, "Who is responsible for the death of my strongest archangel?"

Amenadiel sighed, he didn't want to tell but he knew if he found out on his own that he would be in a lot of trouble. He wasn't helping Chloe, which he did for Lucifer, by holding his mouth shut.

"Father, with all, do respect, it all started when you threw him out." Amenadiel started, "He always had the feeling that you didn't love him, that his whole family didn't love him, that he was a monster that was unlovable. Finally, he had found the miracle you made, Chloe and for a while, it was looking good until she found out who he really was and used his feelings for her, against him. She tried to send him back to Hell by poisoning."

"Oh son, I never meant for you to feel like a monster. I have always loved you. You were the only one I trusted with the damned souls. I should have told you that only you could handle such an important job and that I always loved you. Yes, I was angry, but I never stopped loving you and I did a poor job doing so. I earn as much punishment as Chloe does." The being sobbed.

"I think Chloe is punished enough, she found him and will feel guilty all her life. She wanted to apologize to Luci." Amenadiel tried to explain, "Please isn't there something you can do?"

His Father took a deep breath, "There is one thing I can do, but I need to find out how to do it. Raphael put him in the ice coffin to prevent his body from rotting."

"And Chloe?" Amenadiel asked curiously

"That will all depend on the fact if I can save him or not. If I can save him, I will let him decide at the end of her life, if not she will face me." God said before he placed the body against the palace floor. The coffin would have a place next to his throne.

It took God several Heaven days, which were weeks on earth, for him to find what he was looking for. He could only do this once, the only way to save his son was by giving him a piece of his own divinity.

He didn't need to think twice though, if he could save a son this way he would do it, especially his Lightbringer.

By now the coffin was surrounded by all the archangels with Michael right there next to Lucifer's head. Even though the archangel's wish was to get rid of his brother, something broke inside him watching the Lightbringer's dead body. He had to admit that this wasn't what he wanted. It was he who started singing a song for him. His own Whiskey lullaby.

The coffin looked like it was made of ice that wouldn't melt. The coffin was open. God sighed deeply and placed his hand on Lucifer's head, hoping, wishing that it would help. The light that came from his hand was so bright that even God himself had to close his eyes.

The moment the light faded God fell to the floor. Raphael ran towards his father to check on him, "Bring him to his room, he just fainted, Dad will be okay. It just took a lot of energy." A few angels nodded and carried their Father to his room while the other angels and especially Michael held their breath.

Seconds later Lucifer's eyes opened and he looked confused, "Where the bloody Hell am I?"

"You are home, brother." Michael said, "Dad gave some of his power to save you."

"Why didn't you leave me dead, as everybody wanted?" Lucifer growled.

"Michael sighed but shook his head, "I am sorry for making your life so hard brother, I hope one day that you can forgive me."

Lucifer looked at him to see if he could detect a lie but for once he saw Michael was telling the truth.

"Why don't you go and rest a bit, Luci? Your room is still like you left it. I will bring some scotch every time I come to the silver city. Hell doesn't need a warden anymore." Amenadiel said, he didn't want to tell him that Chloe had come to him to apologize, he was not ready to hear that.

Lucifer shrugged but sighed and nodded, he didn't have the spirit to argue. He stepped out of the coffin with help from Amenadiel and Michael but wandered alone through the halls in the direction of his room.

God woke up a few hours later with the news that it worked, that his son was alive but still broken.

Heaven weeks become heaven months and bit by bit Lucifer became the old one. He got the job to let his Father see if he was about to make a mistake. The only angel that was allowed to argue with their Father.

It was strange but he didn't want to leave the Silver City. Not when he finally felt loved by his family. Here he wasn't confronted with what he couldn't have, even if Amenadiel had told him that Chloe had found him and came to apologize.

Often enough he would sit there under the willow with gold and silver leaves, just playing his guitar. The piano reminded him too much of his time on earth. He missed Chloe so much.

Chloe came home from what she found and poured herself a glass of wine. The glass became a bottle. She couldn't stop crying. It was her fault that Lucifer was gone.

Once a week it became every night, drinking so much that Trixie cared for her mom instead of the other way around. She had told her father that she would stay with her mom because her mom needed her.

Over the years she lost her job, she lost the respect of her friends, even when Amenadiel had told her that Lucifer was alive and in heaven.

It took so long until she found a picture of her and Lucifer dancing. She took the note that Lucifer had written when he took his life. She couldn't help to write underneath that she still loved him but that she couldn't go on without him, that this was the only way hoping to ask for his forgiveness.

She drank the last bit of her bottle of wine and took her gun, pulled the trigger, shooting herself through the head, falling dead on her bed. The picture and the note were still in her hand.

She arrived in a white hall, on the throne sat a dark-skinned older man. Azrael had warned her Father and Lucifer that Chloe had appeared on her list. She also took the note and gave it to him.

Lucifer was standing next to his Father's throne on the left side. His twin was standing next to him. Over the years, the bond between Lucifer and Michael had become closer than it ever had been.

Chloe was shocked to see Lucifer and his brother, by the gesture of his brother she knew exactly who Lucifer was.

"You get the chance to defend yourself, to say what you always wanted to say to my son. It will be up to him if he will let you into the silver city or not." God spoke with authority in his voice.

The woman fell on her knees and started crying, "I am so sorry for ever have listened to that priest, Lucifer. My whole life turned upside down and I didn't want to admit that I was in love with you. It was easier to see you as they had described you but I was wrong. I wanted to talk things over when I found you, I wanted you in my life in every sense you would have let me. Please I hope you find it in your heart to give me one last chance." Chloe closed his eyes, tears running over her cheeks.

Lucifer sensed that her apology was sincere. He nodded towards his brother and his father and walked towards her, "I have only one question, Chloe and I want an honest answer."

Chloe nodded but still looked at the floor she didn't have the courage to look up.

"What is it you truly desire?" Lucifer asked, kneeling next to her as he lifted her head to look at him.

"For you to forgive me and give our relationship a chance," Chloe said in all honesty.

Lucifer placed his hand on her cheek and brought his lips to her, "You always had me." He softly said when they broke apart.

Now months later they often could be found under that same willow in his Father's garden, he would play the guitar while her head was in his lap. The only soul who was allowed to live in the palace. They were finally happy.

The end.
