A/N: I'm not sure if this will even stay up I'll be honest I find it very weird to write stories for darvey that are so far out in an alternate universe that it isn't even plausible for it to occur canon. Buttt this story came pretty easily to me and was really fun to write and I hope someone else enjoys it as well.
AU: After Donna asks for her more, Harvey runs someone else's arms instead of Paula's arms. Here's what ensues... Reviews are always welcome!
An Alternate Reality...
Donna brought back the files she'd asked Harvey for hours ago, finally done skimming them over for the firm's quarterly budget, grateful she had finished up slightly early for date night. She walked over to his office and barely knocked on his door, letting her legs sway along to his desk as she plopped the files down in front of him, her black purse resting in the crook of her arm, ready to leave the office after this.
``Here are the files you wanted."
Harvey looked up as she walked in, trying to hide the widening of his eyes at her attire. She had worn a silky green emerald pantsuit today, that already had his pants tightening whenever he caught a glimpse of her. She rarely, if ever wore pants to the office and he couldn't lie and say he wasn't thankful for the glimpse of her long limber legs in the new look. But the top part of her pantsuit was covered up most of the day with her stylish short jacket suit that stayed buttoned up- till now. Now, Harvey could see that the top part of her outfit was a plunging, tight bodice cut that pushed her breasts up, offering him a view of her freckled chest that complimented the green dangerously, and fuck was it hard to try not to stare at them directly.
He knew he shouldn't have been thinking about Donna in that way- ever really, but especially now when he was dating Scottie. The thing about Donna though, is that she tended to dress more provocatively when she was dating someone and this was the first time in their history that they both were simultaneously seeing someone seriously. It was new water to tread together and so far Harvey felt like he was sinking.
Wouldn't HR have an issue with that outfit Miss Paulsen? Is what Harvey really wanted to say, instead he swallowed down the urge to spew 500 inappropriate comments to make about his COO and settled for a more ambiguous one.
"Did you change outfits?"
Donna raised a brow like she could see through his comment and 'nonchalance' attitude he was going for.
"No, just adjusted a few accessories for date night."
Harvey didn't know what to say to that. He felt awkward for bringing up the elephant in the room, and Donna being Donna steered the ship another way to more calm waters.
"Did you talk to Louis about Freedman?" Donna inquired as she sat down on the armchair across from him, prolonging her little visit to his office.
Harvey nodded again. "Yeah. He's going to handle it tomorrow, he wants to go home to Sheila and the baby."
Donna smiled at the reference to Louis's uncanny family. "Who would've thought, Louis Goddamn Litt, family man of the year."
Harvey smirked amused at her shenanigans. "You did."
Donna smiled at his truth, but rolled her eyes. "It's a miracle he got out of his own way and got his shit together." Donna mused.
"Are you calling yourself a miracle now?"
Donna chuckled in reply. "Well who knows where any of us would be without my Donna magic."
Harvey grinned at her self-satisfied smug look, she deserved to be cocky he supposed.
"Not like you're slacking in that department either. Where's Ben taking you tonight?"
"Mitchell is taking me to some bistro he really wants to go to."
"Italian?" Harvey asked, pretending like the idea of them swapping date night plans was normal.
"I think panasian." she added half-assed, not really sure where this conversation was going.
"We should go sometime. On a double date I mean." Harvey wanted to shove those words back in his mouth the minute they were out there. He had no idea what possessed him to say such a thing.
Donna looked at him like he just grew two heads. She raised an eyebrow and let out a snort, "Yeah, sure."
It was Harvey's turn to frown at her. "What, we're friends right? Isn't that what friends do?"
Donna ignored the first half of his statement, knowing he was baiting her to say something that would back them into a corner he'd try to get out of. Instead she smartly got off the chair and adjusted her purse.
"Don't you get the feeling Scottie hates me?" She half teased half revealed, knowing there was a weird energy tainting their relationship. Donna knew it had to do with Harvey, but she was curious if Harvey noticed it.
"She doesnt hate you." He said as he rolled his eyes, not quite believing his own words. He was sure Scottie didn't hate Donna. He just didn't know how to explain the weird energy between them. Donna simply hummed in response as he got ready to leave his office for the day.
As they made their way to the elevators he spoke up again. "Besides, I want a taste of what Donna Paulsen is like on a date."
Donna raised an eyebrow at his choice of words. They sounded dangerously flirty. Just as she was about to turn around to face him, with a quippy remark on her tongue, the elevator doors opened to reveal Mitchell and Scottie in there, laughing.
"Donna!" Mitchell exclaimed in excitement as he greeted her with his megawatt smile.
"Mitchell?" Donna sputtered in surprise at the duo in front of her. She glanced at Harvey from the side and could see he was freaked out by the sudden life crossover occurring before his eyes.
Mitchell ushered her over as Harvey got his wits about him and got in the elevator as well.
"We were just talking about you two." Scottie said teasingly as she slipped a hand around Harvey's waist.
"All good things I hope." Donna replied back wryly as her eyes jumped from Scottie's arm to Mitchell's green eyes and then finally landed back to Harvey, seeing him hide his discomfort through a painted look of indifference that she saw right through.
"Well you can only say so much when this one's involved." Dana squeezed Harvey's waist jokingly as Harvey pushed the down button twice, hoping to get this awkward encounter over with.
"We were just talking about who we were meeting here and realized it was you two. They're going out tonight with no plans and I figured we could ask them to join us at the restaurant. It is family style serving, they say the more the merrier."
Donna felt her lips twist into a less than enthused smile. She was hoping her acting skills covered the sudden want to strangle Mitchell for his upbeat overly friendly nature.
"And I figured there's no reason to say no to that invitation, right Harvey?" Scottie glanced up at Harvey with a mischievous glint in her eye. She was half testing him half hoping that this time around, their relationship really was solid enough to handle a double date with Harvey's closest friend. She had gone through therapy, and so had he. They were different people than the last time they tried this, and she'd be damned if she was going to let her petty years old suspicion of Donna be one of the reasons they don't make it.
Harvey swallowed down the feeling of annoyance he first felt at Scottie's intentions. He was about to come up with a phony excuse when he caught the pleading look in her eye. He really did want to be a good boyfriend this time around. He was going to try. Besides, he had just told Donna that friends could do such outings. There was nothing for them to hide, and nothing for him to dread.
"Guess it saves me from coming up with a last minute date-night plan." Harvey felt the words come out of him gargled, like it took swallowing seawater to get them out.
"Great! You guys can follow us in your car then." Mitchell smiled, squeezing Donna's arm in his.
Before an anxiety-riddled silence could engulf the elevator, Scottie's phone rang, and she slipped away from Harvey's side to the far right corner of the elevator as she spoke into her mobile.
Donna stood next to Harvey now, her left hand still clasped in Mitchell's, as she murmured under her breath. "Guess you'll get a taste after all."
Harvey covered his laugh with a cough, as he nudged her slightly with his shoulder. This was going to be interesting.
