Turns out Rogue's big plan was to send him home regardless. He didn't agree and argued with her to the point that he almost knocked her out and kidnapped her. But that aside from being unethical, not chivalrous at all, would only ensure that she would never speak to him again. And it had been hard enough to get through to her. Or trust her. But giving in to a stupid impulse, which on the other hand was his specialty, and running off after her to ask for answers hadn't gone that bad.

Remy was able to convince her that he would wait for her in the last town they had visited. But still ... It was a terrible idea.
So there he was, stupidly happy and worried. Struggling with all his willpower to not turn around and go looking for her again.
He heard Bishop chuckle beside him on the horse. Remy gave him a curious look and the man shook his head.

"I can see the smoke coming out of your head, Lebeau," he said with a huge smirk on his face.

"I...just...I, I don't know, mon ami, I don't know how to deal with this," he replied defeated. "I've always known that a woman would be the end of me."

"It's something I assumed," Bishop replied.

Just the thought of her being around Creed made him nervous. Even knowing that they had worked together before. That they were currently working together. But if Victor realized Rogue was lying...He was going crazy. What worried him most, though, was that all that love and all that loyalty Rogue had for his mother came from fear. And it broke his heart, he knew damn well what it was like to fear someone who should love you.

He shouldn't have left her alone.

"Do you think I'm doing the right thing?" Remy asked looking toward his friend.

" I can't tell you that, mate, do you still think she can deceive you?" asked Bishop back, shrugging his shoulders.

"Non," he hadn't even thought about it again, or maybe he didn't want to think about it. "I mean if I've done right by leaving her alone."

"If you've decided to trust her, you have to," Bishop stopped his horse and gave him a serious look. When had this guy become a relationship counselor?

"I trust her, I don't trust her partners," he growled grumpily.

"I think if you do show up looking for her, it'll be worse than whatever you're thinking right now," his friend gave a long sigh and turned on his heels again.

Oh, how he hated that the man was right.

"I know that," Remy replied rubbing the bridge of his nose.

"So?" Bishop asked again.

" That doesn't make me any calmer," he replied out of frustration.

"Anyway, whatever you do you can count on me," Lucas pulled on the reins and the horse took off.

"Thanks, Lucas," Remy replied letting out a sigh.

All he could do was wait.

Remy woke up the morning of the third day feeling ill. He hadn't slept at all. With each passing day felt more and more useless. Washed his face with cold water trying to improve his appearance but the dark circles under his eyes were visible for miles.
Remy had never been a patient man, especially not with things that mattered to him. The uneasiness was growing by the hour, Rogue should be back by now. If she didn't show up today...
He tried to distract himself by taking care of the horses. Strolling around town and playing poker, but his head was far away from there.

The hours were taking forever and he couldn't find anything else to keep himself busy. Remy sat down to dinner with Bishop, but his taciturn state wasn't a great company and his friend had noticed it.
To the point that he didn't know why Lucas hadn't punched him yet.

Just as he was making up his mind whether getting drunk that night was a good idea he noticed someone approaching their table.

"Remy Lebeau?" a red-haired woman who looked vaguely familiar to him asked. He was sure he had seen her somewhere before. She had amber eyes glinting with disdain.

"Oui? How can I help you?" Remy asked trying to figure out from where he knew her.

The woman gave him a hard punch that nearly knocked him out of his chair.

"Have we met, chère?" he asked wiping blood from his mouth.

" What have you done to my daughter?" she spat with unexpected hatred.

"I don't remember doing anything to anyone's daughter, nothing she didn't want," he replied mockingly, smiling at that woman in a brazen way.

Which didn't seem to amuse her at all as in one quick movement she put a knife to his throat.

"She took a bullet for you and then left me and all I see is a pile of shit."

Then something clicked in his head and it all became clear at that moment. The fact that she was here wasn't a good signal.

"I assume you're Mystique, non" he replied trying to sound as calm as he could. "Where's Rogue?"

Something in her expression changed as if she had been caught by surprise which only increased his disquiet.

"Where is she?" Remy asked again, holding back the urge to arrest her right there on the spot, just because he knew that Rogue loved that woman.

"She and Creed are missing."

The way he hated being right. He swallowed hard not taking his eyes off the woman glaring at him.

"Why did you let that happen?" Remy asked failing to hide the rage he felt at that moment. His accusatory tone revolted Mystique and she slammed the table making the dishes fall to the floor.

"Because she gave me something that made me pass out for hours" she hissed with so much hatred that it made his blood run cold. That woman was dangerous, he shouldn't forget that. She wasn't just a bad bitch. She was a murderer.

"Are you sure it wasn't him? It's not like he's the guy you should trust," inquired Bishop who had been with the hand on his gun during the whole conversation.

" Victor is too stupid to concoct such a plan," she commented in a bad temper. "And my daughter thinks that she owes him something," Mystique replied not taking her eyes off him and pointing a finger at him in an accusatory gesture.

" Bloody hell," Remy snarled under his breath.

He was furious, at that woman, at Creed, and at Rogue for being so reckless. He rose from the table and without waiting for anyone and with no direction he stormed out of the saloon.

Hi, anon! Everything is fine, thanks for asking, and thank you very much for your reviews!

Sorry for the short chapter. I started writing the next chapter and realized that I needed to get from one point to another. And I've had a lot of work these past few weeks and didn't have time to write either.
Thanks for being there.
