Chapter 1: Celebrating Retsu Unohana's Birthday
Everyone had already set up decorations for Captain Unohana's birthday party. She was in the world of the living with Isane, Kiyone, Captain Jushiro, & Captain Kyoraku. Captain Unohana seemed a little confused about the world of the living, as she has never been here before.
They were at the mall, eating on some food & smoothies, as they got done shopping for Captain Unohana. She thanked them happily.
"Again, thank you guys so much, but what is all of this again?" Unohana asked, confused.
Jushiro & Kyoraku chuckled.
"We call it a 'surprise' today's your birthday and we wanna take you out shopping so you can buy yourself something." Kyoraku said as he smiled at her.
"Oh. I see. Do you all do this too?" Unohana asked them.
"Yeah! My sister takes me out shopping all the time. Don't ya sis?" Kiyone said to her big sister, Isane.
Isane blushed and smiled at her younger sister. "Yes I do. I hope you like it so far Captain." Isane said as she smiled.
"I do. It's a new experience for me. Being at the soul society so much…I didn't realize that I'm missing out on a lot of things." Unohana said as she smiled softly.
Everyone chuckled, "You know if you just wanna come out here more just ask us. We'll be more than happy to take you out." Shunsui said as he grinned.
Unohana smiled, "Okay I will. Isane, may you take me to another store? I think I would like to buy some candles."
"Ah, sure Captain." Isane said as she stood up and held onto her captain's arm.
"Well now it looks like she's getting into it." Jushiro said as he smiled, drinking his smoothie.
"I agree, my love. Now let's call the soul society and see if they got the party decorations all set up." Shunsui said as he called in.
"Yeah, what up?" Kenpachi answered as he inhaled the weed.
"Why hello Captain Zakari.~ How is everything?" Shunsui asked him.
"Well, we got everything all set up. We also ordered so much apple cider, and now we're just waiting on the cake to be done. Once it's done I'll call y'all back so she can see this shit. She's going to love it.~" Kenpachi said happily as he grinned.
"Ah, perfect. Alrighty then, we'll stay around here for another twenty minutes and-" Shunsui heard Kenpachi gasping. "Captain Zakari, what's going on?"
"On second thought, get her ass over now. It's all done~!" Kenpachi said happily.
"What? Already? Erm, alright then. See you by then." Shunsui said as he hung up.
"Whoever's baking the cake needs to take it slow." Jushiro said as he chuckled.
"You're right, love. But let's give Captain Unohana another ten minutes. She's enjoying herself so far.~" Shunsui said as he smiled and leaned onto his lover's shoulder.
Ukitake smiled as he leaned his head onto his. Unohana brought a few candles and some perfume. She also brought some new clothes for the warm season. She smiled at each cashier as she thanked them.
When she walked out she smiled at Ukitake and Shunsui.
"Captain. We're all done now. Is everyone else done too?" Kiyone asked them.
"What's all done? Is there another 'surprise' for me?" Unohana asked as she tilted her head.
"As a matter of fact, there is~! Follow us, Captain Unohana." Shunsui said as they all walked out and opened the gates as they returned back to the soul society.
Once they arrived, Isane covered Unohana's eyes with a blindfold and led her to the party. Ukitake warned everyone as Renji told everyone else to hide as they did so.
"Captain Unohana, you're going to love this.~" Ukitake said to her.
"Oh am I? I can't wait to see what it is then.~" Unohana said as she blushed.
Then Shunsui opened the door as Renji held it wide open, Unohana walked in with Kiyone and Isane as Isane took off the blindfold.
Unohana gasped at the decorations as she looked around at them, then everyone jumped up and shouted: "HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CAPTAIN UNOHANA!" Everyone said.
Unohana smiled as she laughed happily, "Oh my goodness. Thank you so much. I wasn't really expecting this."
"We wanted to surprise you with a party, captain. We hope this is okay." Isane said as she blushed.
"It's perfect! Now let's enjoy ourselves. But not too much. Please be careful everyone." Captain Unohana said as everyone clapped and cheered.
Captain Zakari walked up to Unohana as he tapped on her shoulder and moved to another side but Unohana caught him and smiled at him.
"Yes, Captain Zakari?" Unohana asked.
"May I uh- Have this dance, Captain Unohana?" Kenpachi asked as he cleared his throat.
Unohana blushed a little as she smiled and held onto his hand. "You may. These are brand new experiences for me."
Kenpachi grinned as he twirled with Unohana as everyone moved away watching them and smiling.
"No way. I'm going to dance with her next." Isane said as she blushed even more.
"I think everyone will get their turn to dance with the lovely Captain Unohana. Like she said, this is a new experience with her." Shunsui said as he smiled at Isane.
"My love, may I have this dance, too~?" Ukitake asked his lover as he held out his hand.
"You may, sweetie.~" Shunsui said as he also twirled around with his lover and they both slowly danced. Then everyone else joined in.
Alice had some apple cider as Renji tapped on her shoulder, moved away til Alice caught him. "You won't get away from me that easy.~"
Renji chuckled, "So how's the cider?" Renji asked her.
"It's great. Okay so Captain Unohana said she never had this kind of experience, am I missing something?" Alice asked as she sipped some cider.
"What she means is that, Captain Unohana always stays and heals others. She rarely has time to celebrate her own birthday or go out dancing, or just having plain fun." Aizen explained to Alice and Renji.
They both blinked their eyes.
"Wait really? So she heals but still doesn't wanna have any fun?" Alice asked him.
"From what I heard, she went to the beach with the others. Isn't that right, lieutenant Abarai?" Aizen asked him as he grinned at him.
Renji remembers going to the beach with them, he turned red. Thinking about the time he saw Rukia in a swimsuit.
Alice and Aizen both looked at him as Alice laughed, "Oh I see now! Yes Aizen, that's a yes from Renji." Alice said as she grinned.
"Ah. Perfect. Anyways, give Captain Unohana some time. She's trying. And I believe the dance between her and Captain Zakari is done.~" Aizen said as he clapped for them.
"That was wonderful, Captain Zakari. Thank you." Captain Unohana said as she smiled sweetly at him.
"Erm, yeah. You're so welcome. Erm, happy birthday." Kenpachi said as he gave Unohana a hug.
Unohana blushed and smiled. Then Isane moved Kenpachi out of the way as she held onto Unohana's hand and began dancing with her.
"Oh my, Isane, I have no idea you wanted to dance with me." Unohana said with a sweet tone.
"I just wanna give you a good time, Captain. You've always been there for me. And I love you for that. You never gave up on me nor on my sister." Isane confessed.
Unohana blushed as she eyes water. She never felt like this before. Then Isane leaned closed and kissed Unohana's cheek.
Unohana's eyes widened as she blushed even more and kissed Isane back on her cheek. Everyone else smiled as they got the cake ready with some candles.
Isane pulled back as she smiled at her and walked her to the cake. Everyone slowly sang happy birthday to her. Unohana opened her eyes as she blew out the candles. Everyone gasped as she made a wish that fast.
"Thank you, everyone. Really. Thank you very much. I really appreciate it and I'm having a wonderful time. This is very great." Unohana said.
"Well if you ever want something like this again, just let us know." Shunsui said as he chuckled.
Everyone chuckled with him as Unohana cut the cake into small pieces and everyone got two slices. Unohana sat down on a bench with Isane and Kenpachi as they both ate cake with her.
"Do you guys wanna hit the beach again soon?" Unohana asked them.
"Hell yeah~! You've read my mind, sweetheart!" Kenpachi said.
"Yes, Captain. But I'm picking out my own swimsuit this time." Isane said as she drank her apple cider.
Unohana chuckled, and nodded. "Alright sweeties. I believe that this summer is going to be great." Unohana said as she ate her cake.
Everyone else had their cake & apple cider.
Unohana smiled as she stared at the moon.
"Happy Birthday, Captain." Isane said as she kissed her cheek.
"Happy Birthday, Captain Unohana." Kenpachi said as he smiled at her.
"Thank you, very much, sweeties." Unohana said very happily.
