Alright, I'm back! Please note that lots of the dialogue and actions are taken from the Pokemon X game! It's going to be very hard, otherwise, for me to come up with speech. Don't get upset and frustrated if you see the same speech used in other stories that are based off Pokemon X, because those used that dialogue too! Thanks for understanding, and here's your chapter!
. . .
CHAPTER ONE
Serena was sleeping peacefully until a sharp peck at her side made her shoot up. "OW!" She whirled around to see who had done it to her, and noticed her mother's Fletchling looking at her with bright black eyes. "Ungh, Fletchling, just leave me alone." She tucked her head back under her covers, only to feel it be stabbed by Fletchling's beak. Annoyed, she threw herself up, sending a surprised Pokemon rocketing through the air.
Serena sighed and stood up. She walked around her bedroom for a second, making sure Fletchling hadn't knocked anything over. She went to her desk and opened her journal. The first few pages were filled with notes from her dad. She picked up the journal and hugged it tight. Her dad lived far away in Kanto; his job required him to catch robbers, runaway Pokemon, and the like as a police officer.
She put the journal back on her desk and walked down the stairs, her socks thumping.
"Good morning, Serena, I see you're finally up," her mom said with a grin. "The move must have made you exhausted." Fletchling flew onto her shoulder and twittered.
"It did, " Serena replied. "But now I'm ready to go explore!"
Her mother frowned. "Not in your pajamas you aren't. Go upstairs and get dressed."
Serena turned red and raced back up the steps to her bedroom. She opened her dresser and found her favorite outfit- a black top with a white folded collar, a red skirt, some black sneakers with a pink PokeBall pattern, and a red hat with a black strap. She looked at herself in the mirror and smiled. Then, she rushed around the room to collect some things- her journal, some berries, and an extra change of clothes. She raced back downstairs, and before her mom could say anything, she was out the door.
"Serena, be safe!" her mom called as the door swung closed. She sighed. "My little girl."
Serena came to a halt as two people, probably her age, looked at her.
"Hi!" said a girl. Her brown hair was shaped into some intricate details, and her pink top had some little black bows. To match, she a had a black bag strapped across her chest, and some pink shoes.. "I'm Shauna, and this is-"
"Calem," the boy said, interrupting Shauna. He was wearing a red cap, a blue and white collared coat, some black pants, and matching black boots.
Shauna looked at him with a funny scowl, then went back to talking. "Welcome to Vaniville Town!"
Serena smiled and nodded. "I'm Serena. Thanks for welcoming me." The pair nodded. "See you in Aquacorde Town!" They both raced off, although Calem was a few paces behind the boisterous Shauna.
Serena giggled and walked over to where her mother's Ryhorn was snoozing in the daylight. "Hello, Ryhorn," she said softly, patting its back. Ryhorn snuffled.
Serena decided it wouldn't be a bad idea to explore the rest of Vaniville. She talked with some of the residents, then looked at the gate. It lead from Vaniville to Route 1, where she would leave all this behind. She gulped, then nodded and closed her eyes for a moment. She reopened them and dashed through the gates.
When she got on Route 1, she slowed down to admire all the scenery. It was very peaceful and short; she could already see the end of it. With her hands folded behind her back, she made her way through the Route to Aquacorde. It didn't take long for a shout to call for her. "Hey, Serena! Over here!" Serena jumped at the noise. She ran to a table where Shauna and Calem were sitting, along with two other boys whom Serena didn't recognize. "These are our friends Tierno and Trevor," Shauna explained. "Guys, this is Serena. She just moved here."
Tierno was wearing a small black hat with some black points coming out of it. He had a black shirt with a blue Vanilitte printed on it. He had orange shorts and a yellow bag, and some matching orange and black shoes. Trevor had a green, white folded collared shirt and a green backpack. He had black pants and a green pair of shoes. "Hi there Serena!" Tierno said. Trevor nodded shyly.
Tierno burst out, "I think it would be nice if we all called each other with nicknames! Can I call you Lady S?"
Shauna frowned and shook her head. "Tierno, WHAT?! No way! She's a Li'l S for SURE!" Shauna then looked at Trevor. "What do you think, Trevor?"
Trevor looked shocked. "Me?!" he stammered. "I-I dunno... Maybe something low-key... Like S-kins?"
Then Shauna looked at Serena. "Well, Serena, what should we call you?"
Serena pondered on the thought for a moment. Hmm, I DO like Pokemon, so maybe something to do with that... Although the other nicknames ARE fun... I've got it!
She faced her new friends. "How about Serenapaw?"
The four turned to each other, whispering quietly, before Calem replied, "Sure! Sounds good."
"Tierno, wasn't there something you were supposed to give us?" Shauna asked him.
Tierno nodded. "Oh yeah!" He took out a brown box and opened it. Inside, its contents were three round, red and white PokeBalls!
"The renowned Professor Sycamore has a task for us five," Tierno began. "Although I don't know how he knew about you, Serenapaw. You did just move here." He shook his head and continued, "Here, take one! Hope you feel the same way Trevs and I did when we got our Pokemon!"
"Serena, since you just moved here, you should pick first," Calem offered politely.
"Okay, thank you." Serena looked in the box. In front of each ball was a little ingraved name. "Fennekin, Froakie, Chespin," Serena read quietly. "Hm." She picked up the ball with a little flame marking on the top. "I choose Fennekin!" She called out the Pokemon and a little fox burst out. It was yellow with some small little whiskers on a white muzzle. It had a black pointy snout. It's tail was big and bushy with a red-orange tip. Its ears had red-orange fur coming out, almost looking like flames.
"You can give a nickname to your Pokemon, if you like," Tierno told her.
"And I've got the perfect one," Serena proclaimed. She picked up Fennekin and looked it in the eyes. "I'll call you Flame!"
"Fenne, fennekin!" Flame yipped. He licked Serena's face with a little pink tongue.
"I think he likes it," Shauna giggled. Then she looked back into the box. "And I'll choose Chespin! Such a cute little guy!"
Calem nodded. "It seems like I get Froakie." He held the PokeBall to his chest. "Because of you, Froakie, I get to be a real Pokemon Trainer. Thank you!"
Then Tierno handed a letter to Serena. "Here, Serenapaw, the Professor said you should give this to your mom." Serena took the letter and put it in her bag. Trevor also gave her an item he called a PokeDex. "It helps you collect data of all the Pokemon in Kalos." Serena thanked them both.
She waved goodbye and walked down the path to the gate. Suddenly, a shout stopped her. "Hey, Serenapaw, wait up!" Shauna raced towards her and caught up, panting. She quickly bounced back and said, "I want to have a Pokemon Battle with you!" She did a cute pose. "Okay, li'l Chespin, it's our first battle, so let's win it with style!" She threw the ball and out popped a little rodent-looking Pokemon. It had sharp green and orange quills coming from its face, but other than that, the rest of it was brown. It had pointed little feet with white claws coming from them.
Serena gulped. It's my first battle, what should I do?! She breathed deeply. Calm down, Serena, take it easy and focus. She threw her ball as well. "Flame, I choose you!" Flame burst out, yipped, and stood positioned to face Chespin.
"Chespin, use Razor Leaf!" Shauna shouted. Chespin leaned back and then shot out a sharp leaf that hit Flame. Flame yelped and Serena gasped. Luckily, it didn't seem very effective, and Flame shook it off.
"Flame, u-use..." Serena thought back to Flame's PokeDex entry. "Use Ember!" Flame shot out a ball of fire and Chespin fell over. It stood back up, but Serena noticed how weak it looked. "Now, Scratch!" Flame ran up to Chespin and used his sharp claws on it. He ran back to Serena and Chespin crashed to the ground, swirls in its eyes.
"Hey, no fair, I wasn't done watching my cute li'l Chespin yet!" Shauna complained. But then, she smiled and returned Chespin to its PokeBall. "Nice battle Serenapaw! You really have some good skills and moves." Serena nodded in thanks. "We should get Fennekin healed up." She took a small mint and purpled colored bottle of her bag and sprayed it on it Flame. Flame winced at his first Potion experience, but the wounds disappeared and he licked Shauna's hand. Shauna pet Flame's head. She stood up and waved to Serena. "I'll be seeing you around! Bye Serena!" With that, her friend dashed off.
Serena laughed and returned Flame to his ball. She put his ball onto her belt and headed off through Route 1, into Vaniville Town, and straight to home.
"Serena' you're back?" her mom asked in confusion.
"Yes, I have a letter from Professor Sycamore," Serena explained, handing her mother the envelope. Her mom opened the red seal and took out the letter. As she read it, her eyes widened. "Professor Sycamore says he wants you to go on a journey and complete the PokeDex! Oh, Serena, this must mean you got your very first Pokemon!"
Serena nodded and took out Flame. She grinned. "Mom, this is Flame."
Her mother bent down and patted Flame's head. "Such a cutie. You're growing up to be like your dad already." She sighed. "Well then, the Professor said he wants to meet you in Lumiose City. You'd best be off!" She waved goodbye and from outside, Ryhorn grunted. Fletchling swirled around Serena's head once and flew onto her shoulder, tweeting. "I'll miss you most of all, Fletchling," Serena said. She gave the bird Pokemon a little hug before walking outside, back into the sun.
In Aquacorde,Serena visited some of the local shops, stocking up on some Potions with the money her mom had given her. She finally crossed the bridge that lead to Route 2, and exclaimed, "Look out world, I'm coming!"
Aand, there you have it! Whew, long chapter, huh? It captures my character well, though. Hope you enjoyed, and stay tuned for Chapter 2!
