Dragonball Generations
Chapter 3 – Family Values
Pigero's hideout, Orange City. It's early morning and the hideout is packed with fighters getting ready to train, Goki is on his way out of the hideout to train alone when Pigero calls to him from his office. "Son! Where are you going!?" Goki walked over letting out a sigh.
"I was on my way to train" Goki replied.
"Are you not running the group training session this morning?" Pigero asked with an entitled tone.
"No, I did yesterday morning boss, if you want me to stay your top guy and get stronger I need time to train my way" Goki explained
"That's fine I can do it, I notice that you're carrying a capsule, what have you got planned for your training?" Pigero enquired.
"I'm heading for the Northern Wastelands, I got Android Beta in this capsule so I'm going to go all out, assess what the upper limit of my power is" Goki said.
"Are you really going to use that freaky looking robot again? I just remember that it took you out of commission for a month last time… What's the deal with that thing anyway?" Pigero asked concerned.
"My brother Goken made it for me a few years back when he first got hired by Capsule Corp. It's able to emulate the power and techniques from the data of past warriors, there's 40 in total as different options to spar with. Apparently Goken found all the data from the remains of an Android 16 in their R&D labs" Goki explained.
"Ok, but don't push yourself too much… You're our best asset" Pigero said
"I'll be careful, I used the highest setting it had last time… 'Perfect Cell' I won't be making that mistake again, there a safe word installed. All I have to do is say it and it'll shut down immediately" Goki reassured.
"Safe word? Will that thing even recognise your voice when it's knocked out all your teeth?" Pigero asked with a grin.
"It's 'Videl'... my mother's name" Goki said with sadness in his voice.
"Ok just come back in one piece, have I stressed that enough?" Pigero said sternly.
"Sure thing boss" Goki said, already walking away from Pigero's nagging.
Goki left the hideout, the echoes of metal weights being lifted and dropped echoing through the warehouse. He flew as fast as he could to the Northern Wastelands a vast empty space of rocks and patches of grass, Goki rocketed past West City on the way as he didn't want to catch the attention of any relatives or family friends. When he arrived at the Northern Wastelands Goki pressed the capsule and threw it to the ground, in a cloud of smoke Android Beta stood facing him. Thinking back on Pigero's words Goki agreed, this was a freaky looking robot. It essentially resembled a 6 foot tall crash test dummy with the Capsule Corporations logo on its forehead. Goki spoke to it to commence his training.
"Android Beta activate, user ID Goki, use profile Future_Trunks" Goki said, thinking that should be a tough enough setting to challenge him, he has got stronger since his last spar with Android Beta but Goki was positive that the Perfect Cell setting would still hospitalise him.
Android Beta's eyes lit green and it flew towards Goki with no hesitation, arms outstretched ready to grab him. Goki leapt towards the charging android giving a powerful knee strike to the chest launching Android Beta deeper into the wasteland. Goki flew past the launched android and delivered a perfectly timed double fisted hammer strike plummeting Android Beta into the Earth, forming a large crater. Goki was puzzled looking at the android below, as it lay in the crater looking up at him its arms were seemingly moving around at random like it was having a seizure. Goki thought he must have broken it somehow and maybe he should have gone for a more challenging setting when suddenly it shouted with its robotic voice.
"BURNING ATTACK!"
A huge sphere of fiery golden energy launched from the androids palms heading straight for Goki. Calculating the attacks speed Goki realised there was no way to move out of its way nor was there enough time to launch an energy attack of his own. Goki prepared his body to hold the energy attack back when he suddenly heard a familiar voice shout out somewhere below him.
"KAMEHAMEHA!"
A large wave of blue energy shot up from the ground, colliding with the androids attack and nullifying it, causing a large cloud of smoke in the air. Goki looked down from where the attack came from. He made out a figure on the ground charging towards Android Beta too fast for him to get a clear look at them. Goki did not see the attack but he heard the impact of a powerful strike, completely in awe he could see that his mechanical sparring partner was in numerous pieces around the crater it was previously within. He heard the same familiar voice speak out again "still playing with toys baby brother?" Goki looked behind him, there hovering with him was his older sister Pan. There was little resemblance between them; she took after their grandmother Chichi in her youth by appearance with medium length straight black hair, deep black eyes. She was dressed ready to spar in track pants, tank top and sneakers.
"That was a gift from Goken you know" Goki said wearily.
"I know and I'm sure he can fix it, figured you could do with a real challenge for a change" Pan said as she gestured with her hand to Goki to start fighting.
"If I wanted to spar I would have stopped in West City, I thought the fact I went through as fast as I could was clear enough body language" Goki said sternly.
"Come on little bro, I haven't seen you in a year it seems. Scared of getting beaten up by a girl?" Pan said with a smirk.
"Fine, I'll treat this as an opportunity to make an example of fathers biggest boot licker" Goki said as he raised his fists.
"20 years old and still not outgrew your teen angst? I'll use this as an opportunity to beat it out of you" Pan said as she also raised her fists.
Pan started the fight with a fast and bold spin kick towards Goki's chest. He blocked it and grabbed Pan's leg as he tried to throw her further into the sky. Pan managed to reverse Goki's grip and placed him in a headlock. Pan hurled downwards with Goki secured under her arm, releasing him as he collided deep into the ground, she stood back from the hole in the earth readying herself for Goki's response. Goki's palms burst from the ground under Pan, holding her ankles in place. Pan quickly tried to break his grip but could not fly away from the threat. Suddenly Goki's feet launched from under the ground followed by the rest of his body as he maintained his grip on Pan's ankles, Goki's feet connect with Pan's jaw delivering a powerful kick launching her far into the heavens. Goki pursued Pan towards the sky and shouted "Wolf Fang Fist!" Goki delivered 5 fierce palm strikes to different pressure points across Pan's arms and torso, he was about to deliver a final palm strike when Pan moved out the way and replied with a powerful back fist to Goki's face, followed by a double fisted hammer strike knocking Goki back down to the ground on his back.
Goki got back to his feet, thinking that it was about time he ended this fight. Goki outstretched his right arm with his palm out facing Pan in the sky; his arm began to glow with orange electricity travelling up and down his right arm. Goki shouted "Makosen!" as a powerful wave of orange energy flew from his palm towards Pan in the sky. Pan responded in kind "Kamehameha!" with her hands placed together a blue wave of energy flew towards Goki's attack. The Makosen and Kamehameha clashed creating a shock wave across the wasteland, tremors in the earth spread where Goki was standing. Both siblings were wrestling with each other's energy blasts as neither the Makosen or Kamehameha would budge. The Makosen started to slowly push the Kamehameha back as Goki started pouring more of his energy into his attack; all resistance from Pan disappeared as Goki felt his attack push through Pan's as if it wasn't there. Goki feeling sure of victory wondered how long it would take for him to find his unconscious sister in the wasteland once his Makosen makes contact with her. Suddenly he noticed a shape in the distance next to his Makosen, Goki despaired "No!" Pan had tricked Goki into putting all his energy into his Makosen as Pan slides down the side of it riding the energy wave at incredible speed. Pan meets Goki at the bottom as she drops kicks him with the full force of her descent once again burying Goki into the ground. Goki's limp hands were protruding from the ground like the only flowers in the wasteland, Pan grabbed them and pulled her unconscious brother from out of the earth and lay him down to regain consciousness.
Some 30 minutes pass when Goki finally wakes up coughing, he notices a spherical shuttle taking off in the distance from West City, Pan is sitting next to him, she passes Goki a fresh bottle of water. Goki takes a sip.
"You've got stronger little brother" Pan said with pride and a hint of condescension.
"I have, you more so" Goki said still trying to catch his breath.
"Come to think of it, there were two moments where you could have beat me had you just used some of the techniques Dad taught us" Pan said inquisitively.
"Not a chance, I vowed to never use any of the techniques he taught me ever again, I've trained with all the greats on this planet. Tien and Chiaotzu at the Crane School, Krillin and Master Roshi at the Turtle School not to mention I spent time training with Yamcha in the desert and Piccolo in this very wasteland, in short I don't need those techniques" Goki said bitterly
"Then you're being stupid little brother, you're denying yourself the best teachers. As long as you avoid Dad, you avoid Uub too and I noticed you didn't mention Vegeta" Pan responded again inquisitively.
"I don't trust Vegeta. I've heard all the stories of how he came to live here on Earth. He's just an old murderer" Goki snarled.
Another voice spoke from behind the siblings.
"If that's the case, he would be in good company training with you"
Pan and Goki stood and turned to see Gohan standing there. He appeared ready for battle, wearing his usual orange gi much like his fathers and brown Namekian boots like his mentors. Goki noticed that his father looks much the same as he always has, short spiky hair but his face had an intense expression, Goki wondered if Gohan was currently in his ultimate form.
"Was this your plan sis? Beat me until I'm too weak to run and let your Dad come to lecture me to death" Goki said with a venomous tone.
"No and he's still your dad too dummy" Pan responded.
"I saw what you did two nights ago son, you killed all those people in the desert" Gohan said with sadness.
"I did, they were all evil, no great loss" Goki said candidly.
"Were the waiting staff evil? The drivers in the vehicles outside the coliseum? Criminals to some degree maybe… but evil?" Gohan asked.
"Call it collateral damage, either way I wouldn't have to do things like that if you didn't publish that book of yours all those years ago" Goki said with growing resentment in his voice.
"You kill anyone you don't like because of my book? Do you realise how insane that sounds son? That book is to help the people of Earth but it needs time perhaps another generation to work and each time you war with someone with your power, you just delay the benefits that book will bring" Gohan said patiently
"Benefits! Your book is what got mom killed! You don't get to call me son again!" Goki shouted with tearing eyes and a reddened face, losing all his composure.
Gohan thought back for a moment, this is the most he had communicated with Goki in almost 10 years. Shortly after Gohan's book was published the people of what was then Satan City realised that Mr Satan was a fraud and that Gohan was the one who saved them from Cell. A large bounty was placed on the head of Mr Satan. Gohan and Videl came with their children to rescue Mr Satan from the hostile crowds gathering outside his manor gates in order to hide him in West City. As they all left the manor a thin golden energy beam shot from the crowd outside the gates targeting Mr Satan however Videl leapt in the way to protect her father, the beam pierced her heart and killed her instantly. Goki witnessed the whole thing up close and screamed in despair, the young boy rushed towards the gates, the force of his movement blasted the gates open and shot the crowd back seriously injuring the majority of them. Goki found the one responsible; it was none other than Mercenary Tao looking to cash in on the bounty. An old nemesis of Goku's from the old Crane School, his many injuries and defeats at Goku's hands had shaped him into a cyborg, barely anything human left of him. Goki launched himself at Mercenary Tao, in a rage the young boy tore the cyborgs head from his shoulders and crushed it between his palms. Gohan's rage from the death of his wife Videl quickly faded and was filled with sadness when he saw his young son with a vengeful expression, tears pouring from his eyes, his torso covered in blood, oil and small metal scraps. The sight of this powerful boy with a murderous expression made the crowds dissipate in fear. Gohan saw himself in the face of the young Goki, he too was capable of such rage as a child although he was fortunate enough to have had the right guidance to control it, Goki on the other hand had just experienced that rage for the very first time and lost all control in a few mere moments. Goki fled the scene and Gohan was never able to speak to him again until now.
"My book may have been partly responsible but you don't understand Goki, it teaches ki control and yes it can be used for evil but more for good. Countless planets have widespread knowledge of ki control like Namek and they are better equipped to protect themselves from big scale threats… I won't be around forever and that's all I wanted for the planet… That's all your mother wanted for the planet. She encouraged me to publish it too so is she responsible for her own murder?" Gohan asked calmly
"Shut up! You can't speak for her, she's dead and you don't care! Your goals are more important than your family!" Goki snapped again, losing more and more reason.
"Goki that's not true! Dad does so much for us and he wants to be there for you too. You can't talk about family either, you have a 3 month old nephew that you haven't even bothered to see yet" Pan said angrily.
"That's enough Pan, please Goki. Come with me to Dende's lookout. We can make amends. Be a family again. That terrorist Pigero has no interest in what is best for you; he just wants to use your anger and power to further his goals. You know somewhere deep down that this is true" Gohan pleaded calmly with tears building in his eyes.
"Times up, don't bother trying to speak to me again Gohan" Goki said bitterly.
Goki unceremoniously fled the wasteland towards Orange City, flying as fast as he could. Pan hugged Gohan tightly as Gohan wiped the tears from his eyes.
"You tried dad, real hard too. He's too deep into his hatred to change now" Pan said reassuringly to Gohan.
"I just hope I at least planted a seed of doubt into his mind. I still believe one day he will come around" Gohan said
"Let's get you back to the lookout dad, you could do with some training to clear your head" Pan said with a smile.
"You're right, after you" Gohan said
The father and daughter flew off towards Dende's lookout, a temple floating high in the atmosphere above Korin's tower. The father and daughter raced each other through the clouds overtaking one another. Gohan reflected on how he used to do this with Videl in high school during the time he was teaching her ki control and how grateful he was that he could do this too with his daughter. He trained his twin sons Goki and Goken in ki control too although Goken was far more interested in academia than martial arts. As his sons grew up Gohan realised that his sons seemed to embody different aspects of his own life, a warrior and a scholar.
Gohan and Pan approached the lookout with Pan in the lead.
"You're getting slow in your old age dad" Pan said as she lowered herself onto the lookout.
"A good father always lets his daughter win" Gohan shouted back in response.
Mr Popo approached the father and daughter looking somewhat distressed. He was the genie caretaker of the lookout and had tended the place seemingly forever, a short and stocky almost elven looking man with jet black skin wearing his usual turban and desert clothes.
"Dende is in the main temple with Uub, please go to him. He has sensed a disturbance in the universe" Mr Popo said with concern.
"Right, probably space pirates again this time of year. I'll see what's the matter" Gohan said as he ran to the temple with Pan.
Inside the temple was an open space lined with marble, in the centre was Dende meditating, the guardian of Earth, a Namekian in regal robes with mysterious powers. Next to him was Uub, the legendary Goku's successor. A powerful looking Earthling with dark brown skin, a spiky black Mohawk, wearing a yellow gi and brown Namekian boots. Dende awoke from his trance with worry on his face.
"Uub, Gohan. I sense a… disturbance of some kind in the West Galaxy" Dende stuttered.
"I'm not surprised, Goten mentioned yesterday that Vegeta was heading that way to hunt Frieza. Trunks and Goten should be on their way there today as back up" Gohan said dismissively.
"It's not just that, as subjects of Earth I can tell when they're in danger. If Frieza posed a legitimate threat he would have already attempted to colonise the planet at some point in the last 20 years. It's got to be something else" Dende said anxiously clutching his cane.
"Vegeta has the powers of a god of destruction, both Goten and Trunks also have the powers of a super saiyan 2 so I'm sure they'll be fine Dende" Uub said with a confident smile on his face.
"Let's hope you're right Uub, if that's the case they'll just deal with Frieza and won't bring any trouble back with them to Earth" Dende said with some relief.
"With Vegeta there I think it's more likely that he is putting the West Galaxy at risk not the other way around. You up for some sparring Uub, watching Pan sparring earlier has got me fired up" Gohan said to Uub as he cracked his knuckles.
"Say no more, you're on" Uub said with a smile.
