I never created Nutcracker: The Motion Picture characters.
Confusion appeared in Herr Drosselmeyer's eye when he opened one door and looked into a barren house.
He thought he remembered mentioning his visit to Clara and Fritz's parents earlier. Herr Drosselmeyer turned to the cloth bag he carried.
The bag containing toys he created for his godchildren recently. Herr Drosselmeyer stepped inside. He looked around. Nothing but darkness.
''Clara? Fritz?''
Not one reply.
Herr Drosselmeyer approached a table and placed the bag near one chair. His eye was on a plate and one sheet of paper.
He tilted his head to the side. He began to read every word.
''Herr Drosselmeyer,
We're visiting friends while Fritz and Clara sleep. We should return a little after midnight. There are sweets on a plate and you can help yourself to them.''
After Herr Drosselmeyer shrugged, he sat by the table and took a sweet. Did he wish for a bit of company? A tiny bit.
He focused on the bag. ''I guess I can give the toys to the parents of my godchildren when they return.'' He ate the treat at a snail's pace.
Herr Drosselmeyer began to smile for a moment.
''My friends actually remembered my sweet tooth,'' Herr Drosselmeyer muttered.
The sight of a rat appearing by the table caused Herr Drosselmeyer's eye to widen. He remembered his previous wish for company.
Herr Drosselmeyer scowled. His eye was wide again the minute a handful of other rodents appeared. When they ate one sweet. He swatted at them, but they never departed.
Herr Drosselmeyer slouched and placed his elbows on the table. Even when two rats ate sweets on his arms.
