A/N: Finally, got all the chapters that needed to be rewritten up. I hope you enjoy this slightly updated story! I'm going to try to get through this story as soon as I can, but for those who already read the oneshot version probably can guess where this (may) end. Anyway, enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. That goes to the respective owner(s). I only claim my OCs. Also, be aware of the language/violence in this story. And there's a tad bit of grossness in the update (not anything that I go into full detail over, but just a head's up).
Chapter Three- Truly an Ally?:
(Ren's POV)
"Why don't ya make me, ya old blood-sucker?" I taunted the king. With those words leaving my lips, I've more or less sealed my fate. The term blood-sucker was the equivalent of the vampires calling werewolves "mutts." No one inside the clan ever called other vampires that, but the ones outside used it freely. Now that I've said that, I basically denounced my position of the clan.
I never thought the king could become a darker shade of red until then. "Kill them! I want to see both their heads on a platter!" he roared.
That got my cue set. Guards began marching in as I painted another glyph on Inferno's back. I had just barely got it finished when they came charging toward our area. The marks lite up and with a shriek, a force-field surrounded our area. Before the top closed, I fired off the signal shot into the air. The shield should provide enough protection until I can get the other prince on Inferno's back.
(No One's POV)
"There's the signal!" one of the werewolf soldiers yelled, seeing the shot.
"All the prisoners are out of the dungeons, sir!" another added.
The silver haired man nodded. "All right, you heard them!" Kalin called. "Clear out, and get that scroll going! Let's show these bastards what happens when you try to kill our prince!"
(Yusei's POV)
The vampire guards bashed the shield, but it didn't seem to be close to breaking. The vampire prince was hastily getting his strange weapon put away under his cloak. I could tell that something was up with the vampire prince. I saw (and scented thanks to being in my wolf form) that he was seating quite a bit, leaving his dark brown matted to his forehead. His skin was also looking a bit paler, or maybe that was due to the lighting of the force-field.
A loud explosion caught everyone's attention. Even the guards outside were surprised and seemed to be debating on trying to continue chipping away at the shield or check on what that was about.
"Okay, we gotta go. Climb on!" the vampire prince shouted, getting onto the bat's back. He motioned for me to get on behind him.
You have got to be kidding me, I thought as I shook my head no. I had yet to change back to my human form, and I had no clue if he would suddenly pull a 'psych' moment if I got out of wolf form. I am not getting on that bat's back. Werewolves were not meant to fly!
His eye twitched in annoyance. He slid off the bat's back. "Look, we don't have a whole lot of time. We can either have you get on the back willingly, or Inferno here can carry you like a bird of prey with a fish. And I ain't planning on getting skewered today until this war is done and over!" He got a bit in my face at the end of the shout, which made me pull my lips back in a warning snarl but he barely flinched.
Fuck it. Worse comes to worse, I'll just howl for any nearby allies if he decides to turn on me. I shifted back, wincing as the change irritated the long gash on my side. "Fine," I said, climbing onto the bat's back.
The prince climbed on behind me. "All right, bud. Blast the shield open!"
The bat gave a nod. It stood up as high as it could without throwing us off and let out a screech, the markings under us glowing brighter. The force-field blasted outward, sending several guards flying away. I smelled a bit of burning flesh. As the bat flew with us clinging to its back, there was some more explosions coming from the dungeons.
"Oh good, they brought the extras I smuggled out," the prince stated.
"What..?"
"I managed to sneak out a few explosive scrolls to blow apart the dungeon once the werewolves were freed. I'm sure Kalin enjoyed getting a bit of revenge on the vampire king."
What? Kalin? So he's... My thoughts were cut off as the adrenaline slowly faded and the blood loss caught up. I slumped forward which caused the vampire prince to yell in surprise.
"Shit! Inferno! Start heading-" Everything went dark.
(Ren's POV)
I yelped when the werewolf prince slumped. I managed to grab him before he could slide off. "Shit! Inferno! Start heading to the rendezvous point! We've gotta get him to the pack, stat!" I ordered. Inferno let out a chirp in acknowledgment, turning toward the destination. I activated a cloaking spell, keeping the werewolf prince low to Inferno's back as the spell took hold.
The pill was already fading, but I kept my focus the best I could. It was still an experimental new enhancement for the soldiers, and not everything seemed to have been fully tested. Especially on someone like me who hasn't had blood in quite a long while. Any other vampire would be rendered a bit weaker than normal and unable to cast spells for maybe a day or two (like I said, still highly experimental; Allan had to pull quite a few strings to get me the few I held).
The cloaking fizzled out after a while, and then I had shredded the cloak I wore to sloppily tied around the other. A bit tricky to do while still high up in the air, but I couldn't afford to have him die of blood loss on the way back to the pack. Inferno ducked down when we spotted the lights. I barely got off him when several werewolves came up, taking the prince away and heading for one of the tents.
"Holy crap, we did it!" I heard Kalin say as he came up. "They didn't know what hit them! Sure, would have been nice if we could have taken the king out in the attack, but we got Yusei out of there is the main thing. Way to go! Aly would be proud of this, if she were here!"
"Y-Yeah," I stuttered, feeling like everything was spinning faster.
"Uh...everything o-"
"Bleurggh!" I puked what felt like my entire stomach and some extra onto the ground. Not literally, but that's what it felt like. I heard Kalin gag.
"Ew...okay. Misty! Get another bed ready! Vampire prince decided to paint the ground!"
"Urgh..."
(Yusei's POV)
My eyes slowly opened, finding that instead of the cell ceiling or the open sky was a clothed top to a tent. I blinked, a bit confused. What..? Where am I..? I thought, pushing myself up onto my elbows. I let out a low hiss as pain flared from my side.
The flap opened, revealing a familiar face. "Up already, Yus?" Kalin greeted.
"Kalin, it is you," I said, noticing how rough my voice sounded. How long was I out? "Where are..?"
"Slowly making our way to the compound. We've gotten to the base of the Moonlit Mountains, and just need to get through the secret tunnels. It's been a bit of a slow business as we're taking in a lot of rescued werewolves."
"Wait, rescued? You mean..?"
"Yep, got the ones still in the dungeons freed from imprisonment. All the guards were in the arena, so breaking in was easier than expected. I'm sure the little surprise we left the prisons in will be making the vampire king pull his hair out for weeks. Ought to take a few decades off his life."
"I don't get it. How did you know to attack then?"
"Duh, Ren of course. Who else managed to alert us that you got captured?"
"Ren...the vampire prince? So that was real?"
"Yeah. We've been planning for some weeks to get the prisoners out and get to them to the compound, though once you were in there and got slated to be in the arena...well, plans change." He shrugged at that.
"But why would the prince help us? Turn his back on his clan, throw away his heritage. It doesn't make any sense."
"...I thought the same thing to, but with a different vampire. I didn't understand why she would seek out werewolves, saying she wanted to end this war without any more blood being spilled. Aside from the vampire king's, that is. It took several rescue missions to really realize that she was wanting to help. However, that ended when she was carted off for execution and I was left to bleed out."
"'She'? She who?"
"The vampire princess, Alyssa Mori. Ren's older sister, and the main reason he's stepping up."
"Then the rumors were true? He killed his own child?"
"Considering it was the same guy to trick many of our leaders, I wouldn't put it past him. Now that his last heir has gone rogue, the only choice is that nephew of his that's already being molded to his image. In theory, anyway. Hard to imagine him giving the throne to anyone, even on his death bed."
"But do you trust this prince? You almost died trusting the princess, if I'm putting the timeline right."
"At this point, do we have much of a choice? We've lost a lot of packs to this maniac, and who knows who we might lose next? If this is the chance to finally throw him into hell, I'm taking it."
But is it worth the risk? I silently asked. Can he really be trustworthy? What if it's a way to make sure there's no way we can recover in this war? What if the vampire king knows this and all that in the arena was an act? My father tried trusting the vampire king once, and it almost cost him his life. Who is to say that the prince won't take after him?
(Ren's POV)
"You used a drug that heightens your magic to an extreme amount, but leaves you weakened to this kind of state?!" the healer Kalin had looking after me, Misty, yelled. "I'm really surprised you're even conscious after two days in bed!"
"Can you turn down the yelling, please? My stomach's not in the mood to agree today either," I grumbled, cradling the bucket I was given. Since getting the werewolf prince, Yusei, to safety, I had been bedridden due to the after effects of the drug. Allen had warned me that I would be weakened afterward, but I don't think he expected me to feel and look like death after one dose.
Misty sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Look, I realize you want to end this war through any means necessary, but I don't think it would look too good to be this reckless in that. I'm not quite sure why you had such a bad reaction to this." She held up the bottle which she had 'confiscated' after I passed out. "Just to be sure, I'm going to be studying this the best I can and perhaps make a way to counteract it if those soldiers use it on the field."
"Fine by me. Not exactly looking to reenact this feeling." Plus, might die next time, and I want to at least make sure that bastard on the throne goes down with me, I added in my head but dared not say it out loud. Kalin had told me ahead of time that Misty was one of a few magic users in the werewolf clan, so the last thing I wanted to do was piss her off more than I already have.
As she headed out, I rolled onto my back to stare up at the tent's ceiling. I kept the bucket on my side just in case. I did it, Aly. Daiki. I turned my back on the vampire clan, for now. I already know that the vampire king has already spun his version of the tale, saying that he should have known I would betray the clan. That I had been nothing but a little shit from the start, and that should have been enough warning for him. Well, at least now I can make sure that everyone that ever was considered a traitor or been killed on "accident" will finally have their last wish made. The vampire king goes down, one way or another.
A/N: Ahh, finally I can rest! *faints* Well, not really. Gotta see this story 'til the very end, right? X'D I wanted to update this story as I have changed quite a bit of things involving Ren's storylines. Plus, I felt like the story was in need of a few edits to make it flow a bit better (hopefully I succeeded). And I'm sure you've noticed that I changed Aly (AJ) and Kalin from being a couple to just friends. I wanted to at least make sure the first chapters got the update before continuing in case anyone went, "Wait what? That's inconsistent! Errors everywhere!" I mean, might still happen, knowing me. If I stay off a story long enough, I forget where I left off and end up trying to improv. Badly. All right, I'll quit rambling. See you guys next time!
