A/N: Well, guess I'm going to try to play catch up on here since deviantART has become...well, pardon my language but it's become a s**t show. Oh well, guess I'll have to get used to the changes again (even if it really ticks me off that they pulled this without checking it through for every little bug). Enough ranting, enjoy the chapter!
Disclaimer: I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. That goes to the respective creators. I only claim my OC(s). Also, this story is not for kids due to the violence and language.
Chapter Five- Inside Enemy Lines:
(Ren's POV)
I kept my hood up as I walked further into the woods. A few times, it got caught on the bushes which made me yank it until it came loose. I really need to get one that isn't so fucking long. Or just take a blade and slice it to be shorter. Fashion means shit if you get killed for it, I thought. Inferno chattered above my head, trying to locate any of our allies' bats flying about. No use complaining. Just hope there's something a bit better to hear in this meeting.
I got to the meeting spot, finding no one around. I pulled my hood down. "Great, no one's here yet. Should have-"
"Who's not here yet?" a voice said behind me.
Yelping and jumping a few feet, I whirled around to see the culprit. "Gods dammit, Broder, I'm going to kill you one of these days!" I growled.
"Sure you will, Princey." He jumps down from the branch he was hanging on. "What's got you so worked up, anyway? You know, besides the fact the King wants your head on a pike for that display during the arena." He put his arm on my shoulder and leaned on it like I was a shelf.
"Your clock's ticking faster, I swear."
"It wouldn't look good if you tried killing one of your allies, Ren," a new voice said.
I glared at the blond-haired vampire stepping out. "You try dealing with his antics, Sherry."
"Oh, we do. A lot more than you do, anyway." More vampires came from the bushes.
"Everyone that's coming here?" I pushed off Broder's elbow from my shoulder.
"Anyone that could break away, that is. The Vampire King's not exactly been in the most pleasant of moods," Broder stated. "If he ever had one."
"We'll have to let the ones who couldn't be here know the plan later. We need to talk now," Sherry added.
"Right right, let's-" I felt someone move my lips back. "'Rora..."
"Your gums are getting really pale, Ren. You still aren't taking blood?" Aurora asked in a concerned tone.
I pushed her hand away. "I can manage."
"Ren..."
"Let's get this meeting on. I've got to head back to the compound right after this."
Aurora sighed. "All right." She pulled a map out of the bag on her side. "From what I could gather, the vampire army is planning attacks on some of the larger parts of the werewolf kingdom's territory. Essentially, it would cut off their safer routes to hunt and force them to move toward the heart of the kingdom."
"The compound."
"Correct," Sherry said. "Once all the packs are in one territory, all that's needed is one last strike and wipe them all out."
"Shoulda known," I sighed. "Okay, give me the coordinates of an attack where one of you should be leading it. Everyone else is going to have to stall it by any means necessary. And yes, Broder, that means what you're thinking." He grinned at that.
"I'll be in charge of the next attack on the Silver Hills. The only other attack is held by the King's more trusted general. However, it may not happen if there's no supplies," Sherry answered.
"Good. I'll tell the werewolves to be ready for the battle on the Silver Hills. Just be sure to make it look believable."
Sherry scoffed at that. "Don't worry, I will."
"All right, guess that should be every-"
"Hang on, Ren. I want a few words before you head back," Aurora interjected. She looked at Sherry. "Do you mind that?"
"Not at all, Lady Aurora."
"Okay, well, we'll leave you two to the talk," Broder said. The others left, leaving only Aurora and me in the field.
"So...how have things been...since, you know, breaking of our engagement?" I asked after a long moment of silence.
"Oh, you know. Literally had the King try to have me marry your cousin," Aurora replied.
"Is it the one that I'm thinking of?"
"Whichever one do you think I meant."
"Got it. Guess that went swimmingly."
"If by that you mean me kicking him in the balls and then throwing him onto his back after he said something really inappropriate, then yes. It went swimmingly."
I laughed loudly. "Oh gods, I wish I was there to see it. I bet that pissed the old man off."
"Oh yeah, but he couldn't exactly have me killed unless he wanted at least a third of his force taken back by my parents. Anyway, I'm just working as an ambassador for my parents at the palace which allows me to have access to all the important military details."
"Well, that's good to hear."
"But really, Ren, when was the last time you had any blood? Animal or human."
I sighed. "I think you know when."
"Right. I...heard about what happened with your lover. Sorry to hear about him."
"Well, nice to at least hear him being referred as my lover than my pet. I got tired of decking anyone that called him that."
"Hit me, and I'll hit you back just as hard."
"Don't I know it. Anyways, I better get back. The head Alpha will want to know all the details."
"Here. Better take the map." She handed the parchment to me.
"Won't anyone ask for this back?"
She shrugged. "I'll just say that a certain bat came in and took it right off my desk. Take care, Ren."
"You too." I put the map away and pulled my hood back up.
(Scene Shift)
"Ow ow ow ow! Uncle. Uncle!" I shrieked. Yusei let go of my arm from being pinned to my back after I had dropped the wooden sword. "Holy hell, you trying to wrench my shoulder out of place?"
"You did say don't hold back," he retorted, throwing the weapon back to me.
I grumbled. It had been a few weeks since the meeting and since I gave the detailed plans to Yusei's dad. He thanked me for them along with Aurora's map and plans started going underway. Thankfully, it looks like whatever tricks Broder had up his sleeves and Sherry's sabotage worked to stall many of the battles except for the one Sherry would lead. That one was drawing closer and closer, and I wanted to be sure that I could make the fight seem believable on the vampire end. If it wasn't, gods help us.
Shaking myself off, I got back into a battle position. "One more. I think I got your moves down."
"You sure?"
"Positive."
"Okay then."
We circled one another, me keeping the wood sword in front of me while Yusei looked like he was having a casual walk (though I doubt casual walks involve staring at your opponent and waiting for their next move). I charged at him, taking a swing at his side...only to have him sidestep me and almost make me fall on my face. I swerved at him, making a slash in the air at the side I tried hitting. He grabbed my wrist, pulled it a bit behind my back, and twisted enough to make me drop my weapon. I grinned. Gotcha!
Without missing a beat, I swung my legs at his and knocked us both down. I fell on my face, but at least I surprised him. "Haha. Gotcha this time," I chuckled.
I felt a weight on my shoulders keeping me down. "You sure about that?" he whispered into my ear.
I blinked, taking a few moments for it to hit me that he managed to get back up and got onto my back, pinning me to the ground in a compromising position. I groaned, hitting my forehead on the floor. "Fuuuuuck."
(Yusei's POV)
We stopped after that round. I had to admit, Ren's little trick did catch me off guard, but he spent too much precious time to gloat when he should have gotten his bearings before declaring victory. He's been getting better, slowly but surely. Maybe not compared to werewolf standards, I thought as we got up to take a break.
"Hey, Ren?" I started.
"Yeah?" he said, rolling his shoulder.
"These contacts of yours. Who are they?"
"Oh, right. Guess I haven't mentioned them much. I can't fully disclose their identities, but many of them are high-ranking soldiers and generals in the vampire army that don't agree with the king's ideals."
"I'm surprised there are still any."
"Well, they don't openly voice it, lest they want to get executed. They mostly kept their heads down and hoped that Aly or I would stop the war once we got the throne. You can tell how that went."
"Ah, right. But they are loyal to your cause?"
"Yep. We'll actually be facing one of them at the Silver Hills. I'll let you know who when we get to the field. If all goes well, the contacts will stay safe and the king will be none the wiser."
"And if we're not lucky?"
"Well, there goes the dream of seeing the king's head stuck on a pike."
(Scene Shift, Silver Hills Battle, Ren's POV)
As soon as the army was spotted, my group fanned out. I was stationed in the same group Yusei was leading along with his friends Jack and Crow. I kept them in my sights for as long as I could until I knew I needed to break away. I have to find Sherry as soon as possible if we're going to end this fight quickly without many casualties. Since I left behind my usual hooded cape, running through the trees was much easier to do without a piece of cloth catching on every little twig or branch.
I heard voices up ahead and ducked into the shadows around the area, slowing my pace a bit. I peeked through the bushes to find a camp had been set up with the vampire clan's symbols. And among the middle of the tents? Sherry. I smirked, grabbing the hilt of my sword. Showtime.
(Yusei's POV)
"Yeah! Run back with your tails between your legs!" Crow yelled at the retreating vampires.
"Feels good to be able to get the jump on them, for once," Jack added.
"Where's Ren?" I asked, noticing we were down a member. That got their attention.
"Uh, I thought he was beside Jack," Crow replied.
"What do I look like, his mother? I don't know where he is!"
"You didn't even see which way he went?! What if he gets caught! He's got a bounty on his head!"
"Well why weren't you watching him?!"
I tuned out the two bickering as I shifted into my wolf form and retraced out path. Once I caught Ren's scent, I picked up speed. Ren isn't completely helpless, but with this big of a battle it's too risky for him to be off on his own. If he gets jumped by a big enough group... I shook my head. No, he'd be more careful than that. Right? He wouldn't throw his life away that easily...right?
I heard the sound of a fight on Ren's trail. My eyes widened. No. No no no! I picked up speed. I skidded to a stop at the scent of vampires. I had reached a hill and could see tents ahead. In the middle of it were two vampires dueling. One of them was a blond female vampire and the other was Ren. What is he doing?! That's a general!
I crouched, getting ready to throw myself into the fray when something hit me. "I can't fully disclose their identities, but many of them are high-ranking soldiers and generals in the vampire army that don't agree with the king's ideals." Could she be one of the allies he mentioned? I don't recall any information that gave away she was on Ren's side. Then again, he did say they had to keep their real feelings secret from the rest of the clan or they'd be punished.
Despite a part of me wanting to jump in and help him, I kept myself hidden and kept watched on the fight. They both seemed to be evenly matched at the moment, but Ren quickly gained the upper-hand by tripping his opponent and aiming his sword at her neck. I could barely hear anything they said. However, the rest of the vampires down there started to charge toward him, drawing their own weapons.
That was my cue to get him out of there. I launched myself down there, knocking the vampires out of the way to get to Ren. "Ren!" I called, reaching his side.
"Perfect timing!" he responded. He quickly climbed onto my back and held on tight as I got us out.
(No One's POV)
"Quickly! After them! We need to-"
"No, we're retreating," Sherry cut the soldier off.
"What?! But he's wounded and only has one of the mutts with him! We can still catch up and-"
"We've taken too many hits and are out of supplies. We need to retreat, unless you'd like to be taken back home in pieces." She got up, putting away her blade. "I doubt the king would enjoy having his whole battalion decimated by his son and the wolves. I'll deal with telling him the news."
"R-Right, of course." He turned to the others. "Call the retreat! We'll get them next time!"
Ren, you better hope this worked, Sherry thought as she lead the soldiers out.
(Werewolf Compound, Ren's POV)
Dammit, Sherry! I said make it look believable. Not try and cut me to pieces! I cursed inwardly as Akiza was bandaging up the injuries I got from the duel. At least Sherry was able to get the soldiers to stand down. I don't know how well it would have went if they had jumped in as well. I've got to trust that Sherry can talk her way out of whatever the vampire king wants to dish out for punishment. Considering she's one of the best—if not the best—at the sword, I doubt he's going to want to demote or get rid of her.
"That's odd," I heard Akiza say.
"Uhh, what?" I asked nervously.
"Your wounds. They're not healing as they should. Even the minor ones still look fresh."
Oh shit...uh, come on. Lie lie lie! "Um...must have been poison on the blade."
"I never heard General Sherry ever using that in the notes."
"Well, you know, she has to make an exception for me. I'm too much of a wild card, so she's got to pull out all the stops."
"Hmm, I see." She didn't sound too convinced, but she didn't probe further so I was cleared.
I gave a huge sigh of relief, barely noticing the footsteps in the hallway.
A/N: I will point out that while Aurora (my very first YGO 5D's OC that's only in one story on here 'cause I fell out of writing her too much; Ren's just too much fun) and Ren were betrothed, they are not in love or even had crushes on each other. They're very civil. I'd probably say that if I ever did stories featuring cameos that I'd probably use the crackship of Aurora/Ren in the case of the other person's OC is paired with Yusei. Why? Well, they're paired to the same character, so why not have them as a crackship? They wouldn't even meet in each others' stories, anyway (minus that funny crossover I did in Surprising Each Other; and perhaps one other story I'm working on). Anyway, bye! I'll be rewriting the previous chapters in the coming days (the new prologue should be up, so check to see what changed in it!), so stay tuned!
