It was it was the beginning of summer of 2033 Lucas was in his bedroom at the dorm of the military school he had a pile of books on his bed shelf, Survival books, Books about guns and swords, and the 2 last book was the one provided by the school it was the different levels of infected and their weaknesses and another was about military procedures, Some were about the wars that happened in the past
He was reading' Survivals Guide for Dummies 'Lucas always loved reading books especially those that would be necessary when he became a 16-year-old and be transferred to a military facility and be a soldier for the rest of his life, The book reading was fun until he got bored, He put down his book beside him And tried to take a nap
*RINGGGG*
The ring of the loud bell right outside his room rang aloud, It was heard all over the building and it had no sign of stopping, Luke groaned and stood up from his bed, He was currently only in his boxer shorts he grabbed his favorite casual clothing a grey long-sleeve t-shirt, ripped jeans and his old black converse shoes he went outside
As he opened his door he was greeted by none other than Riley Abel
"Sup nerd," she said joyously putting her arm on his shoulder
Lucas grinned and removed her hand
"Sup to you too Riley" he replied he locked his room door and walks towards school with Riley
" So did you hear about the new kids coming today?" Riley asked
"Yeah I heard I feel bad for the new kids that will spend 3 years in this hell hole of a school" he replied frowning the rest of the walk was Riley talking to Lucas about the fight against the fireflies last night
"Hey wanna go "BugCatching" Later?" Riley ask suddenly
Lucas just raised his eyebrow at Riley and pocketed his hands
"They're going to attack again Tonight?" Lucas asked
"Yeah!-" she said excitedly" I heard from one of the soldiers earlier, So please!!" She asked
"I don't know Riley-" he said
"-I mean one day Winston might notice his stuff is missing and just shoot us in the head the moment he sees us y'know?"
"Pretty please," Riley said making a prayer sign using her hands
Lucas sighs but agreed with her anyway
"Sigh, Fine, So same spot? At Lights out?"
''You know it!'' Riley Hugged Lucas and thanked him, She then looked out the window and grinned she ran and left Lucas in the hallway
"Hey, where are you going!?" Lucas yelled surprised that She suddenly ran away he looked out the window too and noticed the bus of new "students" arriving at the gate with soldiers along
'it's like their protecting a convoy' Lucas thought, he sighs and went outside the dorm when he saw Riley running towards the kitchen
When Lucas arrived in front of the entrance of the school he noticed jonah the blonde bully
"he's like the Malfoy of a military school but more fat and isn't a daddy's boy," Lucas thought
Jonah and his goons were ganging up on a girl with a freckled face she had brown hair that was tied to a ponytail she had a scar on her left eyebrow and she was wearing a green backpack she also wore a grey hoodie above a purple jacket
The girl was being head locked by cole, while Jonah was rummaging to her stuff, Lucas turned his head and noticed that Riley was running towards them, Knowing what she would do he ran towards Jonah's group of buddies as well
"Let's fight one on one you asshole!"
The girl yelled
Jonah grabbed the collar of her jacket and pulled it down and punching her face before Jonah could even punch her
Lucas grabbed Jonah's wrist and grabbed the collar of his shirt he used a judo flip, one of the martial art techniques Lucas was practicing on with the help of books that flip your opponent so that they're back would be facing the floor allowing you to pin down your opponent
Lucas was already sweating he couldn't carry the weight of Jonah and flipping him like that took all of his strength
Jonah was now laying on the ground and Lucas was sitting on his stomach he looked towards Riley she knocked out the 2 and now head locking Cole
'Haven't you and your little group of friends learned your lessons yet? "Lucas said grabbing his collar and giving his face a punch
Lucas stood up, Jonah was frightened and ran inside the school yelling, Same happened for his group of friends
Lucas grabbed the grey jacket and handed it to the girl
"Those spectacular fuctards-"Riley said and looked towards the girl that was kneeling on the floor picking up her things while Lucas helped her "-what did they want anyway?"
She grabbed her walkman from Lucas's hands and thanked him she looked at Riley and stood up removing the dirt from her pants
"Something that was not theirs-"
"I can see that," Riley said looking at her walkman that the girl was cleaning
"- and I had it covered"
"Of course you did," Lucas said grinning
The girl just looked at him with her brows furrowed
"Little advice new kid, find some who can watch your back like-" Riley said
"Did I ask for you're advice?" The new kid interrupts her
Wow, you have trust issues huh?" Lucas said to the girl, laughing slightly
"Well considering how I got punched before I could even enter the school then yeh, yes I have" she replied as she looked at Lucas
"Oh shit" Riley muttered silently but enough for Lucas and the new girl to hear
"Last advise, Run!" Riley said as she sprinted towards inside the school
All the students were sprinting inside as well
"What's up with them?" She asked Lucas
" I don't know they're only like that if the principal is near or something maybe a teacher-" Lucas answered and shrugged his shoulder
"-Come on new girl run before you're caught!!" Lucas yelled as he tried to run towards the school with but a silhouette of a big man loomed above them
They both looked up, Lucas's skin started to lose its color while the new girl was just staring at the bald guy that was standing in front of them wearing a light blue polo and light blue slacks, his face showed rage and disappointment to the two
"You two come with me" Principal David growled still glaring at the two
Lucas had a scared look on his face while the new girl was scowling, they make their way to the principal's office, it was quiet nobody said anything to anyone and the whispers of their classmates couldbe heard on the way, when they arrived at the office the principal took a sit and asked the two as well
"Both of you sit down," Principal David said
David took out two folders below his desk that have both of their names at the top right folders
"Lucas Ackerman-" The principal said looking at Lucas then looking at the folder again
" Says here you're the best in academics no missed classes good, good, you have no strikes, but what happens here huh?, You start a fight in front of the school, You hanging out with that girl has made a big difference on yourself!"He yelled and slammed Lucas's folder on his desk
"I advise you to choose your companions wisely, Mr. Ackerman you're too good of a soldier to be friends with that girl." He said with a slight venomous tone in his voice when he said "girl the principal then read Ellie's paper files
"Ellie Williams, Let see here, What does the soldiers taking care of you think," he said looking at Ellie's file folder
" Oh looky here fighting, fighting, theft, more fighting, oh! Disobedience and more theft, do you have anything to say?"
Ellie just stared at the principal with no emotion on her face, The principal just sighed and stood up from his chair and looked at Ellie, and said
" Do you know what stands between us from those hoards of infected and stragglers out there hm?" The principal asked walking closer to the two
"A giant concrete wall?"Ellie replied sarcastically Lucas was biting his tongue trying not to laugh, The principal rubbed both ends of his forehead and yelled at them both sitting in front of him
"It's ME!-" he yelled "And every other soldier who put their lives on the line for you people!-" he yelled and pointing at himself when he said the word 'me'
"We keep the order that keeps people alive! If it wasn't for us every goddamn fuking people in the world would've been infected!" He yelled angrily
"We protect you from EVERYTHING!-" he yelled pointing his finger to Lucas and Ellie "-Even those fuking renegade group!"
"T-The fireflies?" Ellie asked
"Yes, the fireflies-" he replied frowning "The fuking city think they're the second coming"
"Do you think those murderers are your salvation to?" He asked putting his hand on Lucas's shoulder
"N-No sir, I-I, they are criminals sir" Lucas answered nervously, The principal just smiled at him and turned towards Ellie
"What about you?"
She hesitated a bit but answered
"I don't-" she answered looking at the principal
"I don't think about them at all sir" she added
The principal frowned at her and pointed at her
"You better start thinking about them now girl, they will be your enemies in the future," he said
"Because the both of you disobeyed the rules you will skip breakfast and clean the vehicles that were dirtied last night, The trucks are in the back, you may go"
He said taking a seat on his chair
Ellie and Lucas was about to exit the room but the principal called Lucas
"Oh and Lucas, this will be your first strike for the year, I hope it wouldn't increase anymore boy"
"Yes sir" Lucas replied meekly
