I made this story several years ago. I outllined some things I wanted to do with it but its mostly all fluff. I may come back to it eventually, but for now I'm just posting what I have.

I don't own Prince of Tennis

Chapter 1:

"What's the matter, Loser? Want to go cry to mommy?"

Mai frowned, her eye twitching slightly, as she heard the obnoxious boys playing.

"Come on. This is such a waste of my time! You better start playing seriously!"

With all of her annoyance, Mai slammed her book shut and looked across the courtyard. Just her luck. After hours of reading in peace, some idiot just had to start screaming rude comments at the top of his lungs. She had hoped these old tennis courts wouldn't be so packed. Who plays tennis anyway? Isn't it like a girls sport? Mai frowned as she remembered her mom telling her that the people she would be staying with had a son who played tennis… Really? She could just imagine a girly-boy. The boy's she was seeing now were not what she had imagined.

"Yawn! I'm getting bored here!" Now that Mai was watching, she noticed that it was a black-haired boy yelling this at his opponent, who seemed to really be freaking out. In fact, the opponent seemed to be limping. Poor guy.

With a sigh, Mai stood up, beginning to walk toward the used court, planning to tell the guy to quiet down. As she drew closer, she noticed why the poor guy was limping. That black-haired jerk, with a sadistic grin, was HITTING the guy with his shots. Wasn't that like, against the rules?

This freak needed to be taught a lesson before he hurt someone badly. She leaned down and picked up a long forgotten tennis ball and threw it in the direction of the yelling guy. She watched with a satisfied smile as it made a thud, hitting the guy in the head.

The guy froze, probably surprised, before looking up in her direction. His grin turned down into a snarl, his green eyes narrowed at her. Mai was taken back by the look- he looked ready to murder her- but shook it off and grinned at him. "See, don't balls hurt? You should really stop hitting others with them."

She watched as he continued to glare at her, the whites of his eyes starting to turn a strange pink. Suddenly the redness stopped when someone called out "Akaya!" The boy turned away from her, looking at a group of guys who were the same uniform as the boy. "We're going," the guy wearing a cap said.

Mai watched them leave before returning to her spot and reopening her book. She still had 4 hours before she was supposed to show up at her mother's friend's house. Her train had been really early and it would have been rude of her to just show up.

Akaya Kirihara was mashing the video game controller buttons as hard as he could. After that damn girl hit him in the head, he had been in a really bad mood. His teammates had tried to calm him down, and after playing for an hour and taking a shower, he had relaxed a bit. But he was still mad. It's not like the ball hurt that bad, but he had freaking been hit by a girl! With a tennis ball! And she then proceeded to mock him. If he ever saw her again, he was sure he would snap.

"Akaya!"

Grumbling, Akaya paused his video game and looked up at his mother, who looked around the floor in annoyance.

"Akaya, I just cleaned in here! Pick it all up quickly!"

Confused, he looked around. "Why? It's just going to get messy again."

"Didn't I tell you?" she asked, rather shocked

This caught Akaya's attention. "Tell me what?"

"A friend of mine is moving to America because of her job, but her daughter wasn't too thrilled so I told her that I could watch over her daughter. Since your sister moved out, we have an extra room for her."

This was the first he had heard of this. With a sigh, he begrudgingly turned off his game and began to clean while his mom disappeared to who knows where. Oh, he could hear sizzling from the kitchen, so she was probably cooking.

Just as he finished cleaning up and was about to return to his game, the doorbell rang. With a growl, he stood up. "I'll get it."

Opening the door, Akaya froze upon seeing who was standing at his front porch. The very girl who had hit him in the head. Damn it! Was she the girl who was going to be living here?!

The girl also froze upon seeing him.

He wasn't sure how long he stood there until his mom showed up behind him. "Oh, Mai-chan! Come in! You're a little early," she ushered the girl in before turning back. "Akaya! Close the door, you're letting bugs in."

He shut the door robotically before turning around and following his mom and the girl into the living room.

"How was the train ride? Oh, dear, those bags must be heavy. Akaya, take Mai-chan's bags to her room."

With a frown, Akaya did as his mom said and headed up the stairs. He could hear the girl's light footsteps behind him. Shoving his sister's old room door open, he threw the bags on the bed and whirled around on the girl. "You!" he hissed.

"Me," the girl nodded coolly, glaring up at him. "It's unfortunate that I'll have to live with some brute who hurts people for fun." she said before walking past him and into her new room. Without looking back at him she added "I do hope we can at least try to act normal. I wouldn't want to make Mrs. Kirihara worry."

"Akaya, that was the third time in one game that you were out of bounds. What's wrong?" Sanada asked his teammate. This was very unlike the Akaya Kirihara that the Rikkai Dai tennis team knew. It couldn't be that girl from yesterday, right? Akaya had been perfectly fine during practice after that incident yesterday, but this morning he was really out of it.

"I'm fine." Akaya sighed, leaning back on the bench and looking up at the clouds.

Sanada opened his mouth, about to question him further, but was interrupted by an unfamiliar female voice.

"Hey, Dumbass! You forgot your lunch when you were in a hurry to get away from me."

Sanada and Akaya both turned toward the sound. Sanada frowned as he studied the girl. She had long black hair, braided neatly over her left shoulder in a rather strange looking braid and a red ribbon at the end. She glared in Akaya's direction with bright blue eyes.

Akaya hissed in anger as he stood up and headed toward the girl. "I told you not to freaking call me that," he exclaimed, heading out of the tennis courts and to the girl on the other side of the fencing. He snatched the bento from the girl's hands.

"You're the one that told me not to call you by your first name. What am I supposed to call you imbecile?" she hissed back at him, hands on her hips now that they were free of the little box that Akaya had grabbed. "I can't just call you Kirihara, that would confuse your mom and dad."

By now all of the regulars had gathered on the opposite side of the fence from the girl and Akaya.

"You could call him Seaweed Head. That's what I do." Hiroshi suggested.

The girl looked at the group in surprise. "Seaweed Head?" she hummed, tilting her head slightly.

"Yes. His hair reminds me of seaweed," Hiroshi explained with a grin.

"Hmm…" the girl leaned close to study Akaya's hair, making Akaya lean back in surprise. The girl pulled back and shrugged. "I don't really see it, but it will have to do." She smiled at the group, excluding Akaya, and quickly bowed politely before turning away. "Byebye, Seaweed-kun." Halfway down the path to the school doors, she stopped and turned back to him. "Oh, and your mom said you have to escort me to and from school from now on. She was really angry when you left without me today."

Akaya looked very surprised, "What? But I have practice."

The girl shrugged. "I don't mind waiting. I guess I'll see you later." She turned back around and left.

The sound of bubble gum popping broke the following silence before Marui asked "So… who was the girl?"

Akaya entered the court again in a huff. "Mai. She's freaking staying with my family."

"Why?"

"Her parents apparently moved to America. She stayed behind." Akaya sighed and laid back on the bench again. "My mom is friends with her mom so she suggested that the girl stay at our place!"
