House in a Neighborhood
Wrex and Lee began approaching the back screen door of the house as Lee banged on it and said, "Hello, anybody home? We need some help?"
There was no response to which Wrex noted by saying, "Maybe no one is home, I say we go on ahead in and search the place."
Lee nodded his head in agreement and opened the door before saying inside the house, "Okay coming in, don't shoot alright."
Lee and Wrex enter the house as Lee bent over in pain which caused Wrex too ask, "Are you okay?"
"Yeah I just need to fix up my leg," answered Lee.
"Maybe we'll find you some medical supplies for that leg," said Wrex.
"Maybe there's someone in here that can help us," said Lee as he and Wrex looked over to see the mess the house was left with to which Wrex remarked, "More like these people need more help than us."
Wrex and Lee look around the house to see furniture overturned, pictures of a family, and a bunch of blood on the kitchen floor. Wrex didn't like what he was seeing here as he feared this family that lived here must have been massacred by those monsters they encountered earlier. Lee noticed the blood and said to himself, "Jesus."
A beeping could be heard as they turn to see a answering machine blinking it's red light saying, "You have three new messages."
Wrex and Lee looked at each other as they both headed over to the machine as Lee pressed a button as the messages began with a the machine saying, "Message one. Left at five-forty-three p.m."
"Hey Sandra, this is Diana. We're still in Savannah. Ed had a little 'incident' with some crazy guy near the hotel, so we had to get him back to the ER and have it checked out. Anyway, he's not feeling well enough to drive back tonight, so we're staying an extra day. Thanks so much for looking after Clementine, and I promise we'll be back in time before your Spring Break!"
"Looks like the parents were not here...hopefully the kid is okay," said Wrex.
"Message two. Left at eleven-nine-teen p.m."
"Oh my God, finally! I don't know if you've been trying to reach us; all the calls are getting dropped. They're not letting us leave and aren't telling us anything about Atlanta. Please, please, just leave the city and take Clementine with you back to Marietta. I've got to get back to the hospital. Please let me know that you're safe."
Both Wrex and Lee looked at each other with looks of concern on their faces until the message beeped out, "Message three. Left at six-fifty-one a.m."
"Clementine? Baby, if you can hear this, call the police. That's 9-1-1. We love you...we love you...we love y..."
Lee picks up the picture of the family to see a man and a woman with a little girl looking happy as can be. Wrex began thinking about his own family...how much they must be missing him now that he's gone right now, which gave him a sudden determination to get back somehow. Wrex looked over to see stairs as he looked at Lee and said, "I'm gonna go upstairs and see if there's anything we can find."
Lee nodded his head and turned toward the kitchen as Wrex began going upstairs. Wrex looked around upstairs to see all the rooms blocked off with cabinets and beds. Wrex grunted in frustration till he heard Lee let out a yell and began to head back downstairs till one of those creatures began to attack him. It grabbed him and tried to sink it's teeth into his neck, but lucky for Wrex Krogans have more strength than the average human so he picked it up by it's neck and pulled out his knife before sticking it into the creature's skull. Wrex remembers what's going on with Lee and heads back downstairs to see Lee talking crouched down talking to the little girl from the picture and another one of those creatures dead beside him.
"Lee are you okay?" asked Wrex to which Lee answered back, "Yeah I'm fine, thanks to our new friend here."
The little girl saw Wrex and hid behind Lee as Lee noticed Wrex and told the little girl, "Hey it's okay...he's a friend."
The little girl peeked out her head and looked at Wrex with a frightened look as she asked, "Are you a monster?"
Wrex approached the two as he crouched down and looked at the little girl with a slight smile and answered to her, "Nah my looks are for show...my name is Wrex what's yours?"
Clementine then began to move away from Lee as she gave a slight smile back and answered, "Clementine."
Wrex nodded his head to the little girl with a smile on his face before saying, "That's a pretty fierce name for a little girl...I'm sure your quite a brave warrior to help another fight something this dangerous."
Clementine let out a warm smile to Wrex's comment as Lee asked her, "How long have you been up in that tree house?"
Tree house? She had been stuck up there in that tree house with no one to look out for her. This both saddened and angered Wrex as surly there had to be someone that knew about her. His thoughts went away when she answered, "Two days...I've been waiting for my parents to come home."
Wrex and Lee looked at each other with sad looks on their faces as Lee said, "I don't think that's gonna happen for at least a while."
Clementine looked down in sadness with tears preparing to run down her eyes until Lee said to her, "But until then we'll look out for you Clementine."
"Agreed, no one's gonna touch you while I'm around," agreed Wrex as Lee couldn't help but smile at his new friend's determination.
Clementine looked up and smiled at them both before asking, "what should we do now?"
"We need to find some help before it gets dark," answered Lee.
"I agree, we have a much better chance while the sun is out," agreed Wrex.
"Yeah, those things like to come out more in the dark," said Clementine.
Clementine grabbed Lee's hand as they stared out into the backyard as Lee says to her, "Okay let's go...stay close to us."
The three then exit the house and started leaving the back porch until Wrex noticed a large branch laying on the ground. It reminded him of some of the trees back on Tuchanka where young krogans would go out to make their first weapon before learning many more. Wrex picked up the branch and figured if they were able to settle down he could make himself a weapon that would quietly kill some of these monsters.
The three continued on until they were at the back gate where they saw two men trying to push a car. Clementine was hesitating a bit as she asked Lee and Wrex, "Should I stay? I don't want to sleep in the tree house tonight, but what if my parents comeback and I'm not home."
Lee crouched down with a concerned look on his face but answered to her, "We won't leave you alone."
Clementine gave a slight smile and said, "Let's head somewhere close, okay."
The three then approach the two men as Lee said to them, "Hey man!" as the two men turned in fright to the three of them,
"Holy shit!" yelled one of the guys as the other one yells out, "don't eat us!"
"Were not gonna hurt you," said Lee with his hands in the air.
"Yeah what about that giant frog with you!? It looks like it can eat people!" yelled out one of the guys.
Wrex glared at him as he lashed out, "who are you calling a giant frog fat boy!"
Clementine let out a small chuckle at that as Wrex's was able to catch that and was glad to see the little girl was at least enjoying something for once.
"Then what are you some kind of alien?" asked the younger guy.
"Not surprised to see one?" asked Wrex.
"Not really all things considered a bunch of walking corpses roaming around eating people makes aliens on earth not that crazy," answered the young guy with a shrug.
Wrex nodded his head in understanding as the young guy continued, "But we thought you three were both gonna give us the chomp."
"Were sorry we scared you but we need some help," said Lee.
"Are you looking to get out of here? Because you should be. those things are all over the damn place. I haven't seen anything as gnarly as this neighborhood since downtown Atlanta, fifteen miles back. I'm Shawn...Shawn Greene," said Shawn
"Lee, this is Clementine," said Lee as Clementine hid behind Lee and Wrex.
The other guy crouched down and waved at Clementine as he said, "I'm Chet."
Wrex glared at the man named Chet as his protective instincts kicked in for the young girl which caused shawn to notice as he asked, "what's your name big guy?"
Wrex looked at the young man and answered him with one word," Wrex."
"Well Wrex I'm sure you'll agree that we shouldn't be out of the open like this, how about you you help us clear the way and we'll take you, Lee, and his daughter to my family's farm...it's much safer there," said Shawn hoping they would help out.
"I'm not her dad I'm her babysitter, her parents are out of town," said Lee as it caused Clementine and Wrex to stare at him as they knew he lied to Shawn but it was not without reason.
"Let's get going...staying to long would be a big mistake," said Shawn as he looked around.
Lee and Wrex looked at Clementine as Lee asked her, "What do you want to do?"
Clementine didn't know what to do as she wanted to go somewhere safe but at the same time she didn't want to be far from her parent's house.
"Them monsters are coming!" We gotta go!" yelled out Chet.
With that in mind shawn, Wrex, and Lee pushed the car in front of the truck out of the way as Shawn, Lee, and Clementine entered the truck while Wrex and Chet hopped in the back of the truck. They all drove away as Clementine looked back at her house one last time before they drove far away from it.
a few hours later...
The truck arrives at a farm as everyone exits the truck to see a beautiful farm land not even touched by these creatures. Wrex sensed that they would be safe in this place, at least for the moment but he didn't want to feel like talking to to many of these humans so he figured he introduce himself to the owner and then go away to bed or at least somewhere where he can make his weapon.
Chet and Shawn say their goodbyes as a man from inside the house comes to greet them as he approaches Shawn and hugs him. Wrex saw the man talking to Lee and Clementine until Lee points at Wrex so Wrex came over to see what this was about.
"so your the Guardian Angel huh?" asked the man.
"the what?" asked Wrex confused.
"That what Clementine here called you since it looks like you came from the sky...anyways the name's Hershel Greene and you are?" asked the man with his arms crossed.
"Wrex...is there somewhere I can rest?" asked Wrex with a tone of agitation.
"You can sleep in the barn and help out some in the morning...but I will ask questions about you," answered Hershel.
Wrex simply nodded his head as he walked towards the barn and entered it as Lee and Clementine did the same not to much longer after that. They lied down together on some mats on the floor as they went to sleep. However, Wrex couldn't sleep as he decided to find a place to sit as he took out that stick he found and began making himself a weapon to use.
After carving out a spear portion of the weapon, Wrex heard a voice say something to him as it asked, "What's that your making?"
Wrex turned to see Clementine awake and right next to him staring at him in curiosity. Wrex couldn't help but smile on the inside though as every time he sees Clementine it reminds him of his son back on Tuchanka. More than that he felt there was something special about this girl but he just doesn't know what it is yet. Nevertheless, he answered her in his usual tone, "Just something to handle those monsters out there."
Clementine looked at the weapon and then back at Wrex as she asked again curiously, "So are you a giant frog or our guardian angel from Heaven?"
Wrex looked at the girl with a look of surprise as he let out a laugh, "Well I can see why you view me in such a manner but no I'm neither of those things Clem. How come your not asleep?"
Clem looked down in sadness as she answered to him, "I miss my mom and dad...since I'm so far away from home and they are too, I don't know if I'll ever see them again."
Clementine had tears streaming down her eyes as Wrex looked at her with pity in his eyes as for the first time in his life...he felt bad for a human but not just any human...a child. So Wrex put his spear down and left his spot as he approached Clementine and crouched down to her position as he put his hands on her shoulders and said to her, "Don't worry kid...we'll find your parents. I give you my word."
Clementine looked up at Wrex and asked him, "Your word?"
"It means that I never go back on my promise...that I won't stop until it is done," answered Wrex with a smile.
Clementine looked at Wrex with tears still streaming down her face but a smile on her face as she ran into his arms and hugged him to Wrex's surprise. This was a very weird feeling for him for Krogans are never use to this affection but for some reason this felt different. For once Wrex felt a very warm feeling like a father would with his child. Wrex then succumbed to the feeling and hugged her back. What he didn't notice was Lee was awake and witnessed Wrex and Clementine hugging each other as Lee laid back down and smiled to himself.
