Inko ran to the police station as fast as she could once she received the call. She had to use some of her PTO to get off of work early, but that didn't matter to her. She could get those hours back in a few weeks if she needed to.
What she couldn't get back was her son if he got lost in the system.
Inko bolted in through the front door and slammed her hands on the front counter. While many of the officers were intimidated by her now, she was acting purely out of desperation.
"My son. Izuku Midoriya. Where is he?"
"Mrs. Midoriya?"
Inko was waved at by a plain-looking man with a badge that read Tsukauchi. He gave her a reassuring smile when she nodded.
"Please follow me. Your son is in my office."
A policeman's office? Inko immediately started to panic.
"Sir, please let my son go. He's a good boy, I promise. There's no chance he did anything wrong."
"Don't worry Mrs. Midoriya. He's not in any trouble. It's just..."
The man was struggling to explain. Inko waited, but he didn't seem to know how to inform Inko of what was going on.
"It might be better if I show you the situation. Please follow me."
Inko, confused and concerned, nonetheless followed after Tsukauchi as the two walked through different hallways. When they finally reached his office, Inko was happy to see her son's face. Only to be instantly confused when she saw a bunch of monkey toys around him.
She rarely watched tv anymore, but the five metal monkeys looked like enlarged action figures meant to appeal to children. They even came in multiple colors like those toys.
Izuku, upon seeing his mother, smiled and waved at her. "Hi, mom. I'm doing ok."
"I see," Inko replied in confusion. She then turned to Tsukauchi. "Officer, what exactly happened with my son? And why are there these toys here?"
The green monkey turned to the rest.
"Did she just call us toys?"
Inko almost screamed.
"Robot monkeys that can talk? You expect me to believe that?"
Kamui Woods didn't blame Death Arms for being skeptical. He still had a hard time believing what he had seen back at Shugazu Forest.
"I know it's hard to believe. But that's what I saw back there. There were five taking metal monkeys that came out of a giant robot. Ask Mt. Lady or any of the police. They saw the same things I did."
"You expect me to talk to that ass-flaunting glory hound? I think I'll stick with the police."
Kamui could blame him too much for thinking that. He was still a little annoyed how the woman had taken his glory with that one giant villain a few days ago.
Kamui and Death Arms were currently on their patrol across Mustufa city. After the incident in the forest, Kamui had been released back to his duties. The two of them were just talking like friends, waiting to see if anything was going to happen.
It didn't seem like anything would be happening. Despite all the commotion that had occurred earlier, life in the city seemed to have returned to normal. Which seemed to prove the old adage, that life moves on.
The two of them continued their walk across the streets when Kamui Woods heard something. It was a gooey and squishy sound.
"Do you hear that?"
Death Arms was going to ask what Kamui meant. But then he started to hear the sounds.
Soon, the sound of a moving sewer cover also reached their ears. And before they could question anything, the street exploded.
Street lamps, cars, windows, and even sewer caps all exploded with black goo.
This could have been a prank. Some stupid trick from a group of delinquents. But that possibility was ruled out when the good started to move on its own. Each drop began to form an individual body.
Within seconds, the street was covered in a bunch of gooey zombies with skeletal faces. And when they began to growl, the people ran.
And Kamui Woods and Deatharms had no idea what to do.
"...because of that, your son now has a connection to the same energy that powers us."
It had taken a moment for Inko to calm down after hearing Otto speak. But once she was fine, Antauri was able to levitate and explain the situation. He explained how Izuku had gone to the forest and gotten lost. About how had stumbled into the Super Robot and reactivated it, and reactivating the monkeys in the process. After that, the police had gone to the robot, and Izuku and the five agreed to come and answer questions.
Izuku was just as enlightened as his mother. Maybe just a little more, since he had heard this explanation earlier from Antauri. But it seemed that his mother was still having trouble processing all of it.
"...talking... monkeys..."
"Is she broken?" Otto asked Nova.
"Otto, she's not a machine. That's not the right word."
"Then what is?"
"I believe "confounded" is a good adjective," Gibson said assuredly.
While those three discussed, Sparx walked over to Inko to assure.
"Don't worry. All you need to know is that we got your son's back. He woke us up, so we owe him that."
"Oh. I see."
Inko wasn't entirely sure how to feel about this. Normally, she would be as thrilled as any mother would be to know that her son had made some friends. But a group of five talking robotic monkeys were not at all the sort of friends she would expect her son to make. Or to even exist.
Of course, she was not the only person who was hearing all of this. Sitting at his desk, Tsukauchi was able to tell that none of them were lying. His quirk seemed to work even on cyborg monkeys. The fact that they existed was irrefutable, they were right in front of him. But it seemed that their tale of how they came to wake up was true, at least to them.
But there was still an interesting dilemma. Specifically what to do with them. And how was the boy supposed to fit into this?
"So now I know your take? Can I ask about your intentions now?"
This confuses the monkeys. The yellow one (Nova) spoke.
"What do you mean? We just want to help Izuku now."
"Help him how, exactly? Antauri, was it? You said something about Midoriya having some sort of power now."
"Not in the same way as these other heroes you work with," Antauri began. "Before I continue, may I ask how the abilities of your people work?"
"I saw a guy with gills and another with a toaster for a head on the way over here. Last I remembered, humans didn't come out that way," Sparx remarked. And while his team might have worded it differently, they all had the same question. And that made Tsukauchi have even more questions to ask at the end of his explanation.
"If you want theories on how it started, you'd have to find someone smarter than me to ask. All I can say is that after a glowing baby was born in China a long time ago, most of the population is born with a special ability called a quirk?"
"A quirk, you say?" Gibson scratched his chin in curiosity. The scientist in him was peering out. "Is there a categorization system? Or is every one of these quirks individual-based? And how powerful exactly can they become? We saw strange examples on the way here, as Sparx said..."
Tsukauchi held up a hand in the hopes the blue monkey would stop talking.
"I'm not a scientist or a quirk expert. I'd save those questions for someone more qualified than me."
"Ok. But what about those billboards? The ones with all the people in costumes?" Otto asked.
"I gotta, some of those ladies definitely..."
Sparx's comment died when Nova's hand rested on his shoulder. She had a wide smile, but her closed eyes and angered aura made Sparx pause.
"They're what Sparx? Hm?"
"They... look very respectable and professional. Maybe above average in looks, if that matters."
"Huh."
Not wanting to get involved in whatever that was, Tsukauchi answered the green monkey.
"Those are heroes, Otto. They are people with strong quirks and government licensing to fight crime."
"I see. So heroism a profession in this world."
"Exactly." Tsukauchi was glad for Antauri. The other four monkeys seemed to have their eccentricities. At least one of them was able to keep them all in check.
Satisfied with the answers he had received, Antauri still had one more question to ask.
"Izuku. If you don't mind my asking, what is your quirk?"
The question alone bought down Izuku's mood. He had previously been happy just sitting with the monkeys and his mother, sharing information. But this question bought him back to the inescapable reality of his life.
"I don't have one. I'm quirkless."
Tsukauchi had expected this, so he said nothing. Inko knew this fact, and it still hurt. But the five monkeys did not respond the way anyone intended.
"I see."
Izuku blinked at Antauri's simple response. He had gone his entire life receiving either scorn or pity for his lack of a quirk. To have such a blunt acceptance...
"Is that it?"
"It is not the circumstances of birth or a person's genetics that make them special Izuku. It is the choices that they make in life. And you have a choice to make yourself. You see..."
Whatever Antauri was going to say was interrupted by the sudden blaring of the alarms in the building. The people inside were caught off guard.
"What's going on?" Tsukauchi yelled into his speaker, trying to keep his voice higher than the alarm.
"There's a problem going on downtown. A bunch of officers and some heroes are reporting... what?... They keep saying something about some gooey skeletons. I don't know what to make of it."
The monkeys evidently did know. Once they had heard the description, they began to look at one another.
"It cannot be. Can it?" Gibson pondered.
"We only just woke up," Sparx stated. "How would he even know?"
"And how would he send them so fast?" Nova added.
"Antauri?" Otto asked.
The black monkey levitated above the ground and meditated. He focused his mind and reached out. He had to make sure before...
"It is them..." Antuari confirmed with the opening of his eyes.
"It's who?" Tsukauchi questioned. "What's going on?"
"The formless ones have been sent."
None of the humans in the room had any idea what he was talking about. And unfortunately, none of the monkeys were going to answer. Gibson was already opening the window.
"Detective Tsuakauchi, you must call and tell the heroes and officers to stand back. Their abilities will not be able to hold the formless back for long."
"Formless? Hold on you five. None of you are authorized to get involved in this. This society has rules..."
"The people out there are in trouble. And they won't be able to get out of it on their own. So don't tell us to stop," Nova warned.
"Understand this, Detective Tsukauchi, we mean no offense. Our goal is only to help. Once the Formless ones have been dealt with, we will happily face the consequences."
And with that, the monkeys began to leave through the window. Tsukauchi could have tried to stop them, but it seemed that they all had jetpacks. He was stunned by the revelation, and he was too slow to stop them from flying away.
Three of them were gone in an instant. Two stayed behind for a moment.
"Don't worry kid. We'll be back soon," Sparx reassured Izuku with a pat on the kid's back. He then rocketed away to meet his team. Leaving only Antuari behind.
"Izuku. I do not fully understand your situation. What it means to be quirkless. But you must understand that it is no longer the case," Antauri informed the boy. "Much like us, you are now connected to the Power Primate."
There was that term again. Izuku still had no idea what it meant, but Antuari had mentioned it before. He kept calling it a source of power, but Izuku still had no idea what it was.
"I promise you, I will give you a better explanation upon our return."
And with that said, Antuari flew away to catch up to his team. Leaving a confused boy, mother, and detective behind. Tsukauchi in particular was worried.
"How am I going to explain this?"
Toshinori hated how he had to go home so quickly. But his time limit was approaching fast, and he wouldn't be able to maintain his muscle form for much longer. He had to hide before anyone could catch a glimpse of his true form.
Unfortunately, that meant that he would need to leave the interrogation entirely to Tsukauchi. While he did trust his friend to do it right, he had wanted to take part in it himself. Mainly for how absurd it was.
Five half-robotic talking monkeys? And they lived inside a giant robot that young Midoriya happened upon by accident? This seemed more like the plot of a children's show than reality. But he had seen the proof of it back at Shugazu forest. He was there along with all the other heroes and officers when Midoriya walked out. And he was there when the five monkeys came out. And he saw the black monkey levitate and speak to them.
All of it was real. But that didn't make it any less bizarre.
But it was something he wouldn't be able to get involved in until tomorrow. His time was up, and he couldn't do anything as All Might, as much as he wanted to. His only option was to rest at home and wait for the next day to come. The sun was going to be setting soon, so he wouldn't have to wait long.
In the meantime, this felt like a good time to sit back in his recliner, let out a deep breath, relax, and watch some tv.
"There is complete pandemonium going on downtown. What looks like an army of skeletal goo creatures are attacking, and the heroes seem unable to hold them back."
What?
The news was covering it from a distance. A seeming army of monsters All Might had never seen before was filling up the downtown streets. Kamui Woods and Death Arms were there, trying to push back. But it was obvious that they weren't making much of an impact.
All Might couldn't do anything about this. He had used up his time. He didn't have any power left to use.
No. No that wasn't a good excuse. People needed his help, so he needed to...
There was someone else entering the frame of the screen. All Might recognized who it was.
Elsewhere...
This was pure chaos.
The heroes were trying their best, but nothing they did seemed to have any effect on whatever these things were. Kamui Woods was trying to contain some of them, but they kept slipping out of his wood. Death Arms tried to punch a few, but they kept reforming after every hit.
The police weren't having much more luck. Their guns had less effect than the heroes' quirks, and all they could do was focus on evacuating as many people as possible.
"What the hell are these things?" Death Arms shouted as he tried to punch as many of the monsters as possible. He had to be careful not to get the goop on himself, otherwise, they could reform too close to him.
"I don't know! But it doesn't matter!" Kamui shouted as he used his wooden arm as a whip to try and keep the monsters back. "We need to focus-"
A massive ball of fire suddenly fell out of the sky. It landed on the street, causing an explosion that took many of the monsters with it.
When Kamui and Death Arms turned around, they saw Japan's number two hero descending towards them.
"What the devil is going on here?"
Those sorts of harsh introductions were common with Endeavor, so everyone moved on. And Kamui explained.
"These things popped up out of nowhere. Me and Death Arms are trying to hold them back, but there's too many."
Seemingly satisfied with the answer, Endeavor simply nodded and turned his attention to the monsters. Taking in a deep breath, he attacked.
"Hellfire Fist!"
Endeavor struck one of the monsters directly in the chest. His quirk made sure the punch was accompanied by an inferno strong enough to destroy the ten monsters behind it.
Endeavor felt satisfied, but his smirk quickly fell when he realized how little of an effect he had. There were still more monsters.
"Hell's Minefield!"
He blasted at the street itself, setting it ablaze and taking even more monsters this time. But it still wasn't enough. There were still more of the skeletal beasts approaching.
They were picking up momentum, charging at Endeavor and the other heroes. Even with all their power, they would be overwhelmed by the sheer numbers.
Endeavor wasn't one to panic, but he didn't have many options. His full power would take out civilians and heroes along with the monsters, so he had to avoid that. But too little power would be ineffective against this horde.
"Enough."
The army of monsters suddenly stopped. Their feet planted in their spots as all of their heads turned to the voice.
On the other side of the street, Endeavor could see... five metal monkeys?
Death Arms, who was standing over his friend, leaned over to Kamui.
"Are those the monkeys you were talking about?"
"Yeah."
The Formless no longer had any of their attention focused on the people or the heroes. The monkeys were what they had come for. And now of them wanted to disappoint their master. So they charged at the team.
"Monkey Team! Attack!"
On Antauri's order, each monkey morphed their hands into their designated weapon.
Antauri had his glowing green ghost claws.
Sparx had magnets.
Gibson had his drills.
Otto had his energized buzz saws.
And Nova her mechanized fists.
Each of them was ready for a fight. And none of the heroes had any idea what they were looking at.
Izuku had no idea how to process what he was seeing right now. Since he had been called to the field, Tsukauchi had left the Midoriyas at the waiting center. There was a tv with the news on. Allowing Izuku to see what his new friends were capable of.
Until now, Izuku hadn't even pondered if the monkeys could do anything aside from just speaking. He had seen Antauri levitate, but he hadn't even asked what the rest of them could do. He had no idea that each of them had weapons hidden inside their hands.
Antauri seemed to have green glowing claws, which seemed to be useful offensively. The same could be said for Nova's gauntlets. Gibson and Otto's hands seemed like they could work as both tools and weapons. Sparx... Izuku had no idea how magnets could be useful, but they did look cool on him.
Inko, for her part, had her concerns. She had only met these talking monkeys today, and she was already seeing how much danger they bought with them. She noticed how the black monkey knew what those monsters were, and all of them seemed familiar with facing them. And they wanted to teach Izuku something?
Inko didn't want to think about her son in danger. She knew that his dream was to be a hero, but that had never seemed possible. But now...
She couldn't say anything. Not when Izuku seemed happy. Excited. Like when he was a boy. She couldn't take that away from him again.
Otto ran ahead of his team and attacked first. Loosening the mechanisms on his saws just slightly.
"Whirling Destructo Saws!"
Throwing out his hands, Otto launched one of his saws through the air like a frisbee. The green energy blade tore through the air just as easily as it tore through each of the formless. Dozens of them were turned into sludge, and they didn't reform.
Nova took a simpler approach. Rather than waste any effort on a more stylish and elaborate attack, she simply smashed both of her fists against one another. The force of that impact created a shockwave that demolished a lot of the formless. And once again, none of them reformed when they were destroyed.
Gibson took his time before making a move. Even as the formless ran towards him with the hopes of readying him to shreds, Gibson remained calm as he decided on what to do.
"Now what should I...? Ah! Here we are."
Activating his Laser Criss Cross, Gibson went for a simple maneuver. He shot a beam of blue energy from both of his drills, and he used them to slice all the approaching formless into lifeless chunks of slime.
"Time to show off my stuff."
Sparx added some pizzaz to his move by going into the air. From there, he aimed his magnets at the formless below and activated their rotation mechanism.
"Magna-Ball Beam Splitter!"
His magnets began to spin at accelerated rates, shooting out rounds of red energy at each of the formless. And much like paper being stabbed by a pencil, the enemies below were easily torn through by Sparx's machine-gun-like attack.
The last legion of formless now had one enemy left to focus on. The current leader of the Hyperforce.
Unfortunately for them, Antauri was more than ready to face them.
"Ghost-Claw Attack!"
A simple name for a simple move. Reaching out with his sharp green claws, Antauri tore and cut through each formless in front of him. Using his wisdom to control his innate primal instinct, Antauri hollered as he destroyed each enemy laid out before him. When he was done, only the sluggish refuse remained.
In only a matter of minutes, the monkey team turned the tide of the battle completely to the side of the heroes. The formless army was stepping back, allowing for the police and present heroes to make sure the property and civilians were safe. And each time the monkeys took a step further, the formless took another back.
This was a standstill that ended when the formless chose to cut their losses. It was clear that they were not going to capture the monkeys today. That was no longer an option. But they had something else to return to their master. Data and information. The king would want to know just how powerful these monkeys were.
With their minds made up, each of the formless ones disappeared back into whatever chasm they had appeared from. Whether it was thought he sewers or some other means, the monsters went back to their master.
The battle was over. It was also broadcasted to the entire earth. And the people of the world who saw it had no idea how to react to it.
The initial response was one of gratitude of course. An army of monsters was defeated and retreating. But concern arose when more of the details were considered. None of the present heroes were able to do much damage or even hold them back. It wasn't until five cyborg robotic monkeys arrived that the tide of the battle was changed. Without them, who knew what could have happened?
But more concerns were present? Were there more monsters like this? Where did they come from? Were they created or born? Would they return?
And for all those that watched, one question remained concerning the monkeys themselves.
Where had they come from? And what was their goal now?
Across the Galaxy...
So. His formless had failed in their first mission. That was hardly surprising. They had been created as mere cannon fodder to begin with. And besides, they had served their secondary purpose quite well. He now knew exactly how powerful those mechanical simians were.
"And now I can plan accordingly."
Reaching inside his staff, the eldritch master pulled out a struggling worm. The more it floundered in his hands, the more of a kick he got from its suffering.
"Enjoy your meager victory for today Hyperforce. Whatever backward planet you have chosen to protect, know that it will never be safe from my grasp now. So long as these dark powers flow through my veins, my tendrils will encompass and conquer every world your sticking feet tramp upon."
Throwing the worm onto the floor, the Skeleton King focused his dark power on his staff. He then began to drown the creature in his dark energy, forcing it to mutate and morph into a new horrendous beast.
And throughout the entire process, the Skeleton Kind found ample reason to cackle.
So, I'm a little conflicted at the moment. I said before that this story would only be a two-shot, and then a three-shot. I meant it when I said that I didn't want to continue past three chapters since I didn't want to overload myself with stories.
But as I was saying that, this story turned out to be much more fun to write than I had anticipated. I've been having a lot of fun writing the monkeys and their interactions with the world of MHA. So don't know if I will continue or not just yet. Depending on the reaction to this chapter, I may.
Just know that if I do continue, the next chapter will see the monkeys begin to teach Izuku the basics of his new abilities.
Anyways, please leave reviews, tell me what you think, and I will see you all next time.
Bye!
