Something that had been on my mind over the last few days. Based on conversations I had with Aragorn II Elessar. This fanfic will not be friendly to Captain Marvel and the direction Marvel is going with the character.
Captain Marvel will be portrayed by Brie Larson, while Ms. Marvel (Carol's alternate counterpart) would be played by Yvonne Strahovski, who was considered to play the role of Carol Danvers, but given the direction of the character in the MCU, I'm glad she didn't take it.
To differentiate both characters, Brie's Captain Marvel will be referred to as Carol, while Yvonne's Ms. Marvel will be referred to as Danvers.
Disclaimer: I do not own Captain Marvel or The Marvel Cinematic Universe. They belong to Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige.
New York City, Daytime
Carol Danvers, known as Captain Marvel, was patrolling the city following Thanos' defeat by the Avengers. She recently received a tip from Monica Rambeau, the daughter of her late friend, Maria Rambeau, that a faction of the Skrulls might plan an invasion on Earth.
She recalled taking a part in the Kree-Skrull War, when she initially thought the Skrulls were the enemy, but soon learned that they were seeking a new home and that the Kree were planning on destroying them for not submitting to their role. After aiding the Skrulls in finding their home, she then helped the Avengers take down Thanos and undo the snap, though she was knocked out by Thanos during the fight.
Suddenly, a blonde woman was seen flying and landed on the streets. She was clad in a black leotard with a yellow lightning crest on it and a red sash wrapped on her thighs, a black domino mask that exposed her blue eyes, black elbow-length gloves and black knee-high boots. The woman glared at Carol.
"Are you one of the Skrulls?" Carol demanded.
"My name is Carol Danvers." The woman told Carol.
"That's not possible." Carol said as she was confused about the woman. She couldn't believe there was another version of her.
"I'm known as Ms. Marvel in my world. Due to the collapse of the Multiverse, I was accidentally transported to this earth." Danvers said.
"The Multiverse?" Carol asked.
That's a very nice suit." Danvers said as she complimented her counterpart's suit. "How did you get it?
"Well, I used it during my missions with the Starforce, then upon returning to Earth, I decided to change these colors because I realized they didn't fit me anymore." Carol admitted. "What about yours?"
"After gaining my powers from Mar-Vell, I initially wore a Starforce uniform similar to yours, but then after defeating Yon-Rogg and helping Mar-Vell, I had made my own costume to distinguish myself from the Kree." Danvers told her counterpart.
Carol let out a small fake laugh upon seeing her outfit.
"What's so funny?" Danvers asked.
"Seriously? You fight bad guys dressed like that?" Carol mocked her counterpart's costume. "You lack dignity."
"And you lack honor." Danvers told her counterpart as she wasn't pleased with her behavior.
"Excuse me?" Carol snapped.
"I am aware of your actions in this universe. Just because you're one of the most powerful beings on the planet, doesn't give you the excuse to behave like this. You're letting your own arrogance overtake you." Danvers pointed out. "I wonder what did you truly achieve to gain the title of Captain Marvel."
Carol was enraged by her counterpart's remarks, as she never got used to being called out on her actions.
"But... But I helped the Avengers battle Thanos' army! I even held back Thanos! I deserve the title!" Carol angrily protested.
Danvers scoffed at Carol's remarks. "So, you think fighting makes you worthy?" Danvers laughed. "Great logic there, you really lack self-awareness!"
"You think I'm not worthy of the title? I'm gonna show you!" Carol told her counterpart.
"I'd like to see you try." Danvers taunted.
Carol charged at Danvers, who easily dodged her attacks before kicking her the stomach, sending her to the ground. Carol got up and shot her photon blasts, but Danvers easily dodged and shot her energy blasts at her, which Carol blocked by summoning cosmic energy to shield her hands. Danvers then rushed at Carol, but Carol dodged her attacks and did a backflip kick to Danvers' face, sending her to the ground.
"She's good. Stronger than I thought. I need to find a way to overwhelm her." Danvers thought as she got back to her feet.
Carol rushed to punch her counterpart, but Danvers blocked her attacks and for a moment, both Danvers blocked and countered again and again, until Danvers took the advantage and launched a flying kick to Carol's chest, knocking her to the floor.
"Is that the best you can do? You disappoint me." Danvers taunted, clearly not as amused as she was before.
Carol was enraged by her counterpart's remarks, as she had never lost a battle in her lifetime. Throughout he career as Captain Marvel, she had always come out on top, such as defeating the Starforce troopers and Yon-Rogg with ease, but it seemed that someone might have outsmarted her.
"That's it, I'm gonna end this once and for all!" Carol declared.
"Bring it on." Danvers said.
Carol summoned her photon energy and began hovering in the air, while Danvers also did the same thing. Carol shot her energy blasts at Danvers, who easily blocked it by shielding her hands with cosmic energy. As Carol kept shooting energy blasts at her counterpart, Danvers took advantage by dodging her blasts and launching an uppercut to her chin, sending her flying. Carol then recovered and both Danvers flew at each other, launching punches at each other while dodging each attack, until Carol kicked Danvers in the stomach, nearly sending her floating away. Danvers recovered and used her energy blasts at Carol, who easily dodged them until one of them hit her. Determined to defeat her counterpart, Carol unleashed her power and shot a beam at Danvers, who deflected it by unleashing an energy beam as well. Both of their energy beams collided with each other for minutes, with Carol's beam struggling to overpower Danvers' beam, until she was overpowered and the beam struck her in the chest, sending her crashing to the ground.
As Carol was laying defeated on the ground, Danvers landed and approached her.
"How..." Carol asked, wondering how could she be outmatched.
"You may consider yourself as one of the most powerful beings on the planet, but I'm the real Carol Danvers." Danvers told her counterpart. "Your arrogance and lack of honor sicken me. You're so caught up in your own ego, you ended up being deluded, thinking that you're better than anyone else, not realizing that it might be your weakness."
Before Carol could say anything, Danvers disappeared in a flash of light and Carol was confused about what just happened. As Carol got up, she realized that she may not be as powerful as she might have thought, as she had been outmatched by her counterpart, and that Danvers might have been right.
And that's the end of the story. Not particularly proud of this story, but I did my best.
I mean, I'm surprised that no one managed to write a fanfic where Captain Marvel is called out on her actions or get outmatched by someone of her strength. Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel has become of Marvel's most hated characters due to her arrogance and self-entitlement and she doesn't get called out of it. I haven't seen the Captain Marvel film, and honestly, I didn't miss anything from this film heading to Endgame. *sighs* I miss her as Ms. Marvel.
I am aware that this film promoted modern feminism and hate towards men, which sickens me to the core, and Brie Larson is easily miscast in the role. She doesn't get the presence of a former US Air Force pilot turned superhero and has the emotion of a brick wall. I think Yvonne Strahovski really looks the part a lot more, but considering the direction of the character in the MCU, I'm happy that she wasn't butchered in the role.
As for the backstory, Brie's Danvers is a former US Air Force pilot while Yvvone's Danvers is a former US Air Force major with the codename "Warbird" and was expelled due to her rebellious behavior. Unlike Brie's character, this version of Danvers actually struggled with her personal life, such as repairing her broken friendship with Maria Rambeau and trying to become a better person. All I'm saying is that Strahovski's Danvers goes through personal struggles, like her comic counterpart originally did, while Larson's version seemed too powerful and too perfect at everything, which leaves no room for personal struggles.
I'd like to give a shoutout to Aragorn II Elessar for his help with the story. Thank you so much, my friend.
Let me know your thoughts on this story and I hope you enjoyed it.
