Happy BBRAE WEEK!
I own nothing except maybe Maia(OC).
Prompt: Break up/ Make up
Raven's POV
I sighed. Twirling my straw in my drink as I stared at the ripples. Trying not to react to Beast Boy on the dance floor. It's not like he was dancing with a random stranger, just Cyborg. But I could feel the desire of others for him.
I am sure it came as a surprise to know one when we broke up after two weeks. However, it was a shock to me. Those two weeks were the happiest I have ever been in my life. Our personalities fit together perfectly, bringing out the best in each other. Except in one way. My demon and his beast are both very possessive entities. That normally would not have been an issue but coupled with jealousy, it was the downfall of our relationship. Our own insecurities got in the way. The fear that he would one day leave me chipped away at the back of my mind. While, his lack of trust in me to stay faithful to him, made it even more difficult to ignore the anxiety that he would find someone better.
We had a big fight a week ago and haven't spoken since. This outing at the bar was the team's effort to get us to ease the tension between everyone. The team has been tiptoeing around us, Garfield's anger and my lack of emotion making it difficult to be around. When I walked out to go to the car, it was the first time he had looked me in the eye since our argument.
Flashback
I pulled on the short dark red dress Starfire got for me. I stared at myself in the mirror. My anxiety pooling in my stomach.
It had spaghetti straps and the bust went straight across my breasts. It was skin tight against my body, emphasizing my assets. It stopped mid-thigh, long enough I wouldn't have to worry about flashing everyone but short make my legs look long. I put on black platform heels that strapped on around my ankle and gave me some height. I walked over to my vanity and put on the black necklace that Starfire set out. I double checked my face and hair. Glad my makeup wasn't too much. I only had dark eyeliner, mascara, and dark red lipstick to match the dress. It only took her thirty minutes to do it. My hair took a little longer because she slicked it back and had to get the right strands to 'frame my face'. She said something about a sleek look. I don't know. I kind of just checked out and let her turn me into a doll. Whatever it would take for her to leave.
Don't get me wrong. I love Starfire, she can just be a bit much at times. Ever since the break up, she has just been too much most of the time.
I inhaled, trying to prepare to go to the car. Shifting from foot to foot in front of my door.
'Fuck! Why are you so nervous? You broke up? Get over it!', Brave said from within me. She took over the reigns and marched me downstairs to the garage.
It seemed we were waiting on Starfire and Robin. Beast Boy and Cyborg were already in the car. I sucked in a breathe and opened the door, sliding into the middle since I was the smallest.
The conversation that was taking place between the two boys in the front seat ceased as they both turned to look at me, in the forms of what they would like if they were 100% human.
"Raven! You look good!" Cyborg said quickly, glancing between Beast Boy and I. Garfield said nothing, just stared, slowly taking in my outfit. I mirrored him, looking at his black jeans and dark purple shirt. The sleeves emphasizing his lean arms. But when our eyes met, he flushed and turned to the front.
Yikes.
"Thanks. As do you." I responded. From what I could see, he was wearing a light blue buttoned shirt, with the top three undone, and dark pants.
"Uhh, here's your ring." He mumbled as he passed the small silver ring to me.
I slid the ring on, staring as my skin shifted from grey to a pale white. Sighing, I gazed out the window, trying to shut out the desire to have a normal complexion.
The door to my right opened as Starfire got in. Her hot pink dress bringing out her natural tan and her hair hair was curled to perfection.
"Thank you Robin!" She gushed to him as he closed her door, walking over to his side. She turned to me, eyes roaming as they took in her masterpiece. "Friend Raven, you look the most wonderful! The outfit is very sexy!"
I flushed. Robin opened the door to my left.
Thank goddess, I thought.
"Why does Beast Boy get shotgun? I thought I called shotgun." He complained as he sat down.
"Yeah but you took twenty minutes to get your ass down here. Don't wait on your girlfriend next time and you can have it." Cyborg laughed as he passed out the rings to them.
"But I called shotgun." Robin mumbled and crossed his arms as he pouted. His ring just changed his hair color to brown and made him tanner. He resembled a business man who just got off from work in his white dress shirt and black slacks.
"I am also not the girlfriend, Cyborg." Starfire reminded him, gently.
Yikes.
They haven't figured out what they were, what with Robin's commitment issues and Starfire's intense love, comes with complications. Add being a hero on top of that. It is quite the predicament. Though, they are professional about it, it never interferes with the team, on or off the field. Which I unfortunately can't say for myself and Gar.
The silence was a little uncomfortable. Cyborg starts the car and pulls out of the garage.
"You look nice, too. You seemed to have figured out the curling iron." I say to Star.
Her eyes light up as she tells me the trial and errors she went through to get her hair just right.
End of Flashback
We got in to the club and everyone spilt up. Robin gravitated to the wall, while Cyborg and Beast Boy went to the dance floor. Starfire going to watch to the dj, she loves watching them mixing on their sound system. No matter how many times we tell her that the songs are prerecorded, she still insists on cheering them on.
So much for team bonding.
I walk over to the bar and order a whiskey sour. Once I got it, I moved toward the end of the bar and claimed a stool. I'm not sure how long I've been here, but I do know that I'm two whiskey sours and milking a margarita. The demon in me craves alcohol, gluttony being one of the big seven. I enjoy alcohol because the numbing of my mental and physical body.
Didn't mean to get dark.
"Is this seat taken?" A smooth, low voice purred.
I was about to say yes when I glanced over and then did a double take. The woman wore a casual short yellow dress that accentuated her curves and brought out her dark complexion. Her hair was pulled back, the curls draping over her shoulders. Her eyes were a deep brown with her lips dark and full.
Damn.
She smiled, "Is that a no?"
"Yes." I choked out, the blood rushing to my face as I realized checked her out in front of her. "To the second one.. and no to the first one."
She laughed as she sat down next to me, turning her body towards me. The bartender walked over to her and she ordered two shots of vodka. She winked at me and slammed them one after the other.
"Sorry, I needed some courage to talk to you." She says sweetly.
"Why?" I ask suspiciously. Most people don't go out of their way to talk to me, finding me creepy or intimidating.
"Have you looked in a mirror? You're gorgeous." She flipped her hair back and propped her head on her hand.
My blush came back and I looked down. Her calm aura reminded me of Gar.
"I'm Maia." She stuck out her arm.
I look up and meet her eyes. I respond, "Rachel." as I shake her hand.
She asks, "What brings you here? All alone?"
"Actually, I'm here with my... friends." I corrected her. "They are around here somewhere."
"You hesitated on friends. Am I sensing some tension?" She says as her lips pull into a smirk.
"No, we are friends." I insist, as she glances over my shoulder. I lifted my drink to my mouth, letting the booze dull my senses a little more.
"Hmmm. So the boy scout over there is just glaring at me for no reason?", Maia looked back at me, her smirk turning into a full blown smile. "Damn. It's always the good ones that are taken?"
I replied, "The boy scout's name is Gar and we are not together. We broke up last week."
"So this is recent? And you're here with him now? Wow. Disappointed but intrigued. Tell me more." She set her hand on both her hands and stared at me expectantly.
Maybe it was the liquor in my system or her confidence that made me pour out my feelings. But I told her about our relationship, leaving out the superhero/demon/beast part, she nodded, but stayed silent for the most part. The only indicator of how she was feeling were her eyebrows, raising as I went on. By the time I was done they were almost touching her hairline.
She leans towards me, "So you broke up because you're both insecure?"
"I guess if you want to sum it up in one sentence." I muttered as I took another sip.
She snorted, "Have you thought about having a conversation about it? Instead, of throwing away a whole relationship away on one fight."
"He can come up to me at anytime and he hasn't. I'm not going to beg for him to take me back." I sneered as I finished my drink.
I turned when she didn't respond. Her mouth was open and eyes wide.
"What?"
She grabbed my hands, pulling me closer, "Listen, Rachel, I know we only met tonight and I was originally trying to have you go home with me tonight." She tucked a section of hair behind my ear. "But that should make you trust me even more when I say this... What the actual fuck? Are you really waiting for him to approach you? When he was the one who initiated the relationship to begin with? When you were the one that actually said that you guys should break up? He respects your decision to break up. He could've come up and pulled me from this chair and started a fight over you. Or, he could've played the jealousy game and slept with any one of these bitches. But no, he's over there with his boys, sulking in that corner and occasionally giving me dirty looks. Like if you weren't into him, this would be a completely different story. But you want him to come beg for you back." She sighed and shook her head, keeping my hands in hers, almost as if I was her child and she was scolding me for breaking the rules. "Now, go up there and talk to him like an adult. Be honest about how you feel, you owe it both of yourselves to at least try." Maia pulled me out of the chair, she starts leading me towards the corner I assume the boys are in.
I turn back towards her and whisper, "But what if he doesn't want to try again?" My heart breaking at the thought.
"I wouldn't bet on it. But if he does, call me." She responds as she shoves me back towards their table.
I breathe in and start walking.
"Oh and Rachel!", Maia shouts.
It took me a second to recognize my 'name' but I looked back at her.
"When you tell your kids about me, make sure to tell them I was a sexy fallen angel and that you drooled when you saw me."
I smiled at her, looking her up and down one more time, and nodded. When I made it to their table, Robin and Cyborg were already looking at me, confusion on their faces. Beast Boy's head was on his arms, his body looking tired. A collection of shot glasses and empty glasses littered the table.
I reached out and touched his arm, he jerked back, head raising to look at who grabbed him. His eyes widened when he saw me and he glanced around my person.
What is he looking for?
I lean my head towards him and say, "Hey Gar. Can we talk?"
He stares at my face for a second, an air of sadness around him, and nods. "Of course, Raven."
He said Raven.
He gets up and leads us out the side door, keeping his arm around me but not touching me. When we get outside, he leans against the wall, staring down at me, waiting for me to start.
"I want to talk about us?" I say, tentatively. My nerves making my hands shake slightly.
His eyes filled with unshed tears and he gulped. He looked away and stared at the dumpster for a minute. Turning back to me, he replies, "Okay. I'm ready."
Please, Goddess, give me a chance to fix this.
"I want to get back together... with you... if you want to." I stare up at his face, the emotions flowing through his expressions. Shock, confusion, and happinesses. That is one of my favorite things about him, he wears his heart on his face. You want to know how he's feeling, just look up and it's all there. In the set of his mouth, the way his ears shift, or how big his pupils are.
"What?!" He croaked.
"I want to try again." My eyes started watering, the alcohol not helping. "Please give me- us another chance." I begged. I grabbed both his hands and held them in between us as he processed what I said.
"What about the girl you were with? The one you talked with all night?" He asks, gripping my hands tighter, his possessiveness leaking through .
"Maia? Oh! Well, she originally was hitting on me but then, we talked, and she told me I was being dumb about our relationship. That I should just tell you about my insecurities and have a conversation about the fight we had. Instead, of avoiding it like we have for the past week. I was just scared that you would want someone better. Someone more like you. I'm not as fun or interesting as other girls. My skin looks like a dying corpse and my hair is fucking purple! Not a cool purple either. Just a sad dark purple. Like the rest of me. I have multiple voices in my head, so it's not like I am the sanest. Some days my inner demon makes me want to do terrible thin-" My confession was cut short when he leaned down and kissed me. I responded immediately, yanking his head closer to me. His arms went around me and pulled me to his body.
When we came up for air, we stared at each other, letting our breath level out. His hands resting on my face
"Sorry, but I couldn't let you keep ragging on yourself like that." He had the dumbest smile on his face. "I want to be with you, no one else. You're it for me. My mate for life, of you'll have me. Hey, Fear-" I could feel the emotion shrink back in surprise, "I love you. Now, no need to worry. Right R-"
SMACK
He stared at me, face frozen in shock.
"You tell my emotion you love them before you tell me! What the fuck?!" I yell at him as I'm swinging, trying to get a handle on all my emoticlones that were now at a 100 in my mind.
He grabs my arms and holds them down around me. "I thought it was obvious that I loved you. Can't you feel it?"
I struggle to get my arms free, "I try to give you guys privacy, I do not read people's emotions on purpose!"
He threw his head back and laugh, "Damn. How did we fuck up telling each other I love you?" He looked down at me and shook his head, eyes glinting. He released my arms and grabbed my hands. "I love you. And I love your emotions. I love every part of you."
My emotions took over, I swear. I leapt into his arms, wrapping my arms and legs around him. I slammed my mouth onto his, shoving my love for him down his throat. I slowly pulled away, planting smaller kisses all over his face.
I smile, "I love you too. The human and beast side."
"You should probably make a portal to your room, otherwise," He flipped our bodies so that he was on the outside, pinning me to the wall, drawing attention to his growing problem. "someone is going to get a show." He starts planting kisses up and down my neck, hips slowly grinding into me.
I raise my hand to make one but then I remember that we haven't talked about everything yet. "Hold on." I breathe, attempting to bring knowledge back to the front. "Just a second." I pull his head from my chest and look at him, his pupils were dilated and lips swollen. "I want to say I know you think I would cheat on you but I would never do that to you."
He blinks, his eyebrows furrow as he process what I said. "What?"
"I won't cheat on you?" The statement comes out more like a question.
He asks, "Why would you say that?"
"I thought the reason you were jealous of me around other guys is because you thought I was going to cheat on you like..."
"I never thought... I didn't think you would cheat on me. I was scared you were going to dump me for someone better." He stares at the wall next to my head, avoiding my eyes.
We were both had the same insecurity. Maia was right. We are dumb.
I laugh a little, the weight on my shoulders lifted. Garfield turns to look at my reaction.
He mumbled, "Ouch, Rae. I just said I thought you would find someone better and you laugh."
"No, it's not that. I find it ironic that both of us were scared that the other was going to leave for another." I reply as I smooth his hair back, leaving my hands around his neck.
He sighed into my arms, purring a little. His hands tighten under my thighs. "Are we good? You look..." He gulps as his eyes follow my dress. "really good."
