The floor under him shook with the mirrored rage he was released from a cage inside of him. Klaus knew physical pain, and even emotional. But this was a different kind of pain. The kind of darkness that gave even the devil the creeps. "Get out!" He shouted at Hayley.

5 months pregnant, and Hayley had miscarried. Kaus, beside himself with grief, despite the fact there was nothing he could have done. They classified it as a routine medical miscarriage. There was nothing routine about this, he thought. There was good and evil. And there was karma.

He would have taken the karma anyway he had to, except in the form of losing his little unborn princess.

Little did he know, Hayley had lied. She never lost the baby. In fact, she gave birth to a happy healthy little girl named Hope in the small town of mystic falls.

Now, 8-year-old Hope had even managed to make friends. Jenna, Rose, Lexi and Anna.

Hayley pov:

"Hey sweet girl," I cooed, as hope ran from the school into my arms. Behind her was little Jenna and Rose, running after her. Twins. Their parents, who it feel like decades ago, I had met before I became pregnant with hope. Damon and Elena Salvator. They had decided to adopt kids, just as Caroline and Stefan had, their little girl was named Lexi. What was unusual was usually that wherever Hope was, so was Anna.

Anna was a witch-like her mother Bonnie, and her non-biological father Enzo was a vampire. Of course, all us parents knew about the supernatural, but as far as our kids were concerned, witches and vampires and wolfs were all things that go bump in the night, and nothing more.

While I knew the backstory to all of their kids, to them, Hope was the product of a one night stand, which in a way is true. But if anyone ever found out that this was Klaus kid, one of two things would happen. They'd try and get in good with him and tell him where she was and she would kill me and take her from me. Or they would hurt my daughter, then I'd have to tell me, Klaus would kill them and me and still take Hope.

It's not that I didn't trust any of these guys or anything. Paranoia just sort of came about having a tribrid baby. I had bought a mystical power blocker bracelet that concealed Hopes abilities not just from the world but from herself.

She might grow to hate me one day, but even then I will still love her. "Mommy look," she flashed me a note she had in her hand, "Its-"

"Haley," Elena said coming over. "How have you been?"

"Great, how about you and Damon?"

"Perfect, I just love the smell of bourbon in the morning," she replied sarcastically.

I gave a sympathetic smile. I knew they were having a few issues, but Elena really seems to be getting overwhelmed with it all slightly. "I'm always here for a chat if you need one," I place my hand on her arm.

"I might just take you up on that. Bonnie's coming over tonight and bringing Lexi. Do you want to come?" she asked.

"I don't know-"

"Please mommy," Hop begged, pulling on my hand. Damn it, Elena. But the apologetic guilty look on her face wasn't something she needed me also doing to her, she made that face enough when she was around her husband. It's not that they didn't love each other. A blind person would see the affection and love they shared. But Elena was metaphorically ready to grow up. Damon wasn't. He liked being 25. And he was good at it too.

"Sure." I gave in with the most excited smile I could muster. " What time should we get there?"

"Anytime after 5 is good."

"Perfect I'll see you then."

--

"Mommy, the clock says it's time to go."

"Oh really? What time is it?"

"Time to go," she giggles innocently.

"Okay, okay, just give me five minutes and then we'll leave."

Hope's pov

The salvators place was really big and nice. It was a lot bigger than our house. We had to share it with a lot of other people who lived above and below us, and next to us. And Jenna, Rose and Lexi were so lucky because their dads were brothers and lived in the same house.

I like Jenna, Rose and Lexi. But Anna and I were best friends forever. Anna had two dads and a mom. Bonnie, Jeremy and Enzo. It was so unfair because I had no dad. But Enzo's her real dad because he's married to her mommy.

My dad isn't married to my mommy. Mom doesn't talk about dad much. She says I look like him around the eyes. When I look in the mirror sometimes I try really hard to see what he looks like.

Finally, mom stops the car and comes around to open my door. Anna was jumping on the porch waiting for me, and I run over giggling to see her. "Hope," she squeals and gives me a big hug.

Hayley's pov

It's sweet getting to see Hope with some friends. Its friends like hers try to help me justify taking her away from New Orleans all those years ago.

"Hi Hayley," Bonnie says with a breathy tone.

"Hey, Bonnie. No Enzo tonight?"

"He's messing around with Damon and Stephan in the woods," she scolds light heartedly.

--

Four glasses of wine later, and much-needed adult girl talk with Elena, Caroline and Bonnie, a child's voice disrupts our talk.

"Presenting," I voice booms from the top of the stairs in a typical presenter fashion, "The sleepover crew."

Oh, God. Every time they all hung out together they would do this. They're cute as hell but predictable sleepover skit of why they should have a sleepover.

Hope comes down the stairs, in what I assume are Lexi's pyjamas, along with Anna, dressed in what looks like a pair of Jenna's PJs. "So Lexi, what are you doing tonight," Hope says in a very overdramatic tone to her as they descend the stairs together.

"I don't know Hope," they walk in front of us, ignoring us like we aren't there. "I'm already wearing pyjamas, and promise to go to bed straight away, but I don't know."

"I know!" Jenna, Rose and Lexi run into the room. "You guys should sleepover!"

"Of course we'd have to ask mommy who we love so so much for a sleepover first."

This time they all look at us pouting their lips like they've practised hundreds of times before. We all look to Caroline, who usually just makes the call for all of us. "I don't know-" she teases.

"We promise to go straight to bed," Anna begs.

"Oh alright," Caroline caves and the girls squeal around the room and run upstairs.

"Are you sure you don't mind having Hope for the night?"

"Course not," she waves her hand.

I sigh. "I have to get going girls."

"NO!" they whine together,

"Stay a little longer," Bonnie says.

"No really. I have to make Hope lunch for tomorrow, and I have a few things I have to finish up for work."

"Okay," Elena replies, "But don't work too hard." I smile and start for the door. "And thanks for coming!" she shouts as I make it to the door.

"Bye Hope!" I yell up the stairs.

She runs down with a huge grin and kisses me harshly on the cheek. "I love you, mommy."

"Love you too baby girl."
