Klaus pov

"But why aren't you coming with us?" My daughter asks me through tears.

"Uncle Elijah and Rebecca are going?" I try and console her picking her up.

"Do you not want to come with me?"

"Hope," I said as seriously as I could with her. "I want to be with you always. But I have somethings to fix here in New Orleans before you can come home."

"Okay, sweet girl. You ready?" Hayley calls walking into the house.

"I'm not leaving," she pouts.

With I sigh I carry her forward to her mother, but when I try and pass her off, she clings to my neck. "Daddy please don't leave again."

"Hope I'm not leaving. I promise you'll I'll see you really soon."

"I want you to see us now!" she screams. It was quite easy to pry her off, but the begging continued, and so did the hurt in my heart.

"Daddy please!" she screamed.

"Hope I promise you," I tried to tell her but failed. "I'm sorry."

"Mommy, I'm not going!" Hope tried to bash against her mother to no avail.

"Desmatos insopia," Freya chanted and Hope drifted into sleep.

"Thanks," I muttered, not knowing how much will I had left to watch her leave my protection.

"We'll keep her safe Nick," Rebecca said touching my arm.

"No harm will come to her brother," Elijah attempted easing my nerves.

I kept my face stern and with no response and bubbling anger, I returned inside. I had only an intention of raising hell for Marcel and his vampires the past 5 years, after my hiatus after learning of Hopes supposed death, but now would reclaim my city and my daughter will return home.

Hayley's pov

When we arrived back at the apartment in Mystic falls, to say Elijah and Rebecca were appalled would be an understatement. When Hope woke up, she was still sad, but the tantrum she had been manifesting had dissipated slightly. She wanted Rebecca to sleep in her room that night, which gave Elijah the option of the couch or my room. Back when I was still pregnant something was starting between us. I just, I couldn't help but picture my family with Hope and, as surprised as I am by saying this, Klaus. He was different with her. I saw his world change like he suddenly revolved around her.

When I walked past Hopes room, I could see Rebecca reading a story to a sleeping Hope as she stroked her hair.

"While your apartment is clearly, homey," Elijah put as gently as possible. "Nicklaus has requested something a little more," he chewed his words, "tasteful."

"I've been wanting to move out of this crappy apartment for years," I gushed. "The only reason I hadn't had been needing a babysitter for Hope when I had been at work." I didn't need to work, with compulsion and everything, but I needed something to occupy my time. Alaric had his school, which I guess I'll have to send Hope to now. Caroline had the town celebrations committee. Damon had the Council, Elena her doctorate in medicine, Bonnie and her study of mystical artifacts, and Enzo, well he didn't do much but still, it seemed to work for him.

So I had my Job at the children with disabilities centre. It just gave me a purpose.

"Well, that wonderful. Hope can go to school tomorrow, Rebecca will want to choose the home, and I'll compel some vampires to speed up the moving in process."

"Okay," I smiled approvingly. "Thank you for all of this."

"It isn't a problem. Goodnight Hayley."

"Night."

When I arrived at school, everyone in my class asked me questions about what happened. But my mom and Aunt Rebecca said I wasn't allowed to tell anyone about the witches or my aunts, uncles and dad. And I didn't, only told Jenna and Anna. But then Jenna told Rose and Rose told Lacy and Lacy told everyone.

"Ms Marshal?" Ms Tate coughed my name.

"Yes, Ms Tate?"

"The answer?" she said growing frustrated. I wasn't paying attention truth be told. "12?" I answered taking a guess.

"You think that the country we're looking at is called twelve?" she put her hands on her hips.

"Yes?"

"I don't appreciate spacing out in my class. You can go see Mr Saltzman in his office."

I sighed and gathered my books walking down to Mr Saltzman.

"Hope," he said surprised. "What can I do you for?"

"Ms Tate sent me down here becuase-"

"That's alright you can go back to class," he said with a smile.

"I thought I was going to get in trouble for not paying attention?"

"Will you pay attention next time?"

I nod.

"Great, then you can let your father know that you never got in trouble and it was a misunderstanding. Our fault."

"My father?"

"Klaus Mikaelson."

Oops. "Can you call my mom?"

"Sure, is everything okay?"

"No. I need to talk to my uncle."

"The original uncle?" He gulped.

"No," he breathed out. "My uncle Elijah."

He shut his eyes, "Agg. Yep just give me a second to call your mom."

"Hope! We told you that you weren't allowed to tell anyone," I groan and looked at her in the rearview mirror.

"I only told Anna and Jenna," she said as her lip quivered. "I'm really sorry mommy."

I sighed. In the last hour, I had gotten 10 calls from each of Hopes friends moms who knew who Klaus was. Klaus had ordered Hope back to New Orleans not wanting her in Mystic Falls with 'threats' now that the truth there was out. He also wanted to Hope to maintain as much invisibility as possibly in New Orleans, unfortunately, he didn't know our daughter very well, and as I have recently discovered, Hopes participation in magic back at that blasted cemetery meant that her own magic was starting to show. Even her bracelet wasn't stopping it.

When we arrived back at the plantation, it nearly brought tears to my eyes seeing Hope run from the car to meet Klaus. He immediately took her as she jumped into him, already expecting and relying on him to catch her. I knew he always would.

Klaus pov

I hated how vulnerable I felt now that Hope wasn't within my immediate proximity. I had never felt so solely responsible for a person my entire existence, and it was terrifying, and yet, I had never felt such a great love either.

"Daddy!" Hope squealed running from the car and jumping into me. I liked holding her, she was warm and human and she was so different from me. So happy and full of life. "I got sent to the principals' office at school today by my teacher. But when Mr Saltzman saw me he told me to tell you that it was a misunderstanding."

"I don't like that your name gets her out of trouble," Hayley grumbled.

"Hope didn't even do anything wrong," I rolled my eyes. "Did you?" I asked her.

"No daddy," she smiled and shook her head. I mean, who am I to judge anybody about the right and wrong thing.

"Great, then how about we get you out of the cold and go inside?" I smile at her, and she nods her head eagerly.

"Where aunty Becca?" she asks looking around.

"Why?"

"She said she wanted me to plat her hair when we got out of the car," Hope beamed. I knew my sister wasn't a fan of having her hair braised or curled, so it was clear whatever she had promised Hope had been to amuse her. I could tell already that this littlest wolf would be the end to any willpower any of us have.

"Rebecca will be around somewhere," I tell her, "until then, what would you like to do?"

"Can we go back to the French Quater? It's really fun there," she hops around.

"Not yet sweetheart, soon." While I hated not being able to give inter her every desire and whym, her safety wasn't something I was willing to put on the line for happiness that I'm sure she can manifest somewhere in the house.

"Okay. Can I go exploring the castle?" she frowns and then smiles at her new objective.

"What?" I ask her confused, and when she wavers her hand around signalling to the house, I realise she means the plantation. "Sure," I give her a reassuring smile. "Just no basement."

"Okay," she smiles and runs off through the house.

I had looked through nearly every room now. Dad was in a painting room when I found him. He had let me put my handprint in the corner of the piece he was working on. "Now it's perfect," I giggled and he smiled at me.

"Have to discover anything new in the house," he asked me keenly.

"No, I haven't finished exploring yet daddy."

"Oh okay," he held up his hands.

"What's for dinner?"

He opened and shut his mouth without saying anything a few times before asking, "What would you like for dinner?"

"Anything?"

"Anything in the world," he smiled at me.

I clapped my hands. "Can I think about it?"

He nodded his head and smiled, placing me back on the floor and I ran off.

The next place I ventured to was the pool. I had never been swimming before, but Lacy went with Caroline and Stefan when they went to Hawaii, and she said it was great.

I was upstairs talking to Elijah when I heard Hope's muffled scream from outside. "Klaus!" I yelled and vampire sped outside. When I arrived, so did Kaus, us both seeing Hope falling around the water unsuccessfully. He and I dive in straight after her, and he gets her out of the water as fast as possible, turning her on her side as she coughs up a lake's worth of water.

"I thought you were watching her!" I yelled at him.

"I didn't think she would jump into the pool!"

Hope started crying, and shaking from the cold, wrapping herself around me. "Come on sweet girl," I cooed, "Let's get you into the bath."

When I turned around with Hope on my hip, I notice the rest of the Michaelson's now watching the little display. Breathing out, I turned back to Klaus who was removing his soaking shirt, scowling with what I can only assume is self-hatred. "Look Klaus it wasn't your fault, I'm sorry. lashed out. I would have made the same mistake eventually. But she's okay, just a bit shaken up and everything going to be just fine."

"I never asked for your pity Hayley, nor do I accept it," he growled and stormed inside.

Passing Elijah and Rebecca I mutter, "I guess he used all of his ability to be a decent person on Hope."

"Give him time," Rebecca urges me. "Why don't you give me the little one," she outreaches her arms, and you can go finish that conversation you were having with my brother."

I smile gratefully and pass over a soaking wet Hope to an indifferent Rebecca.
