Greeting everyone, This is a short story, or not who knows, I came up with one evening and decided to share. Let me know. Several new OC's and possible future stories may come from it if received well.
The team was growing up. Everyone pretty much had their niche. Chase was a Police Dog. Marshall the Fire Dog, Skye the Flight Dog, Zuma the Water Rescue Dog, Rubble the Construction Dog, and Rocky the Recycling and Repair Dog. Ryder ran the team and Katie was the local pet parlor owner operator. It seemed somewhat routine the flow of everything. When not performing rescues or other calls the team members all had their various hobbies.
Chase taught crime prevention classes to local businesses and even taught self defense occasionally. Skye loved to fly so any chance she got she was in the air. Marshall had taken to helping Katie at the shop to hone his medical skills. Rubble had created a contraction business and was doing quite well for himself. Everest of course had the resort with Jake, there was constantly something that needed done. They had even hired Rubbles company to build some extra cabins and remodel the old ones. Rocky in particular was a force to be reckoned with when it came to conservation. He helped organize rallies and staged clean ups and so on. Zuma was constantly at the beach. Be it swimming, surfing, or even just sitting on the sand watching the water. On this particular day the University of Adventure City's Girls and Pups Beach Volleyball Team was in town practicing for an upcoming tournament. Zuma had been the perfect choice for welcoming the team and making sure they had everything they needed.
That afternoon Zuma had called Ryder to ask if he could bring the team to the Lookout to see how the Paw Patrol worked. Ryder of course said yes. Ryder thought about it and began making calls. It was a perfect day for a barbeque and movie night. Everyone thought it was a great idea. Food was collected and the TV room was set up for the extra people. As the pups finished their tasks for the day they began to return to the Lookout.
Zuma was showing the Volleyball Team around the Lookout and Rubble had even brought his new friend Obi. Obi was a female English Bulldog that Rubble had met. Obi's owner was a Star Wars fan so therefore her name. They were both young so they were more friends than boyfriend / girlfriend but it was obvious they liked each other.
Everyone had eaten and had settled into the TV Room. Everyone was watching the movie sitting in their little groups. Ryder and Katie sat together in a beanbag. Chase and Skye were laying together on a mat. Marshall and Everest were in the room but they were so lost in each other the Lookout could have burned down around them and they wouldn't have noticed. Rubble and Obi were both sitting together intently watching the movie. Zuma was completely encircled by the Pups from the volleyball team and was having the time of his life. Rocky was off to the side and tried as hard as possible to watch the movie.
It was no use, it seemed everyone had someone except him. It always seemed that way. Everyone was paired up with the exception of Zuma. Zuma always had girls around him. The Surfer Dog motif really worked for him. Zuma had invited Rocky along several times but Rocky knew he could compete not to mention the second they started talking about surfing and swimming Rocky was lost to the conversation due to his dislike of being wet.
No, Rocky had to admit, he was lonely. He had tried looking around but no one seemed to share his interest. Sure there were girls that talked to him at the conservation rallies but while they were supportive of the cause, they just didn't understand Rocky's passion for it. He felt geeky because of his ability to fix practically anything and his love for computers.
Rocky sighed and stood up. He walked to the elevator, he stopped and turned around looking back at everyone. They were all wrapped up in each other or the movie, no one seemed to notice. He stepped in and pressed the down button.
Emerging on the ground floor he walked out into the night. He continued until he reached the hill overlooking the bay. The Moon bouncing off the water was beautiful.
'Lot of good this does,' thought Rocky, 'without someone to share this sight with, there's just no point.'
Rocky collapsed to the ground in a huff.
The fact of the matter was that someone did notice. Zuma watched Rocky leave and at first thought maybe he was just going out to use the tree but time dragged on and Zuma began getting worried. He told the girls, "I'll be right back, I gotta step outside."
Zuma emerged from the Lookout and looked around. He really hoped that something hadn't happened to his friend. He kept looking and spotted Rocky sitting on the hill looking out at the bay.
"Hey bud" said Zuma walking up "You ok?"
"I'm fine," said Rocky without looking up.
"Come on Rocky" said Zuma "I can tell something's up. Talk to me, you're my best friend, you can tell me anything."
"I don't want to take time away from your pack of girls" said Rocky.
"Ha, ha" said Zuma "Pack as in a bunch of girl dogs. Seriously, finding girls to talk to is easy. They aren't going anywhere."
Rocky just huffed never looking back.
It occurred to Zuma that he had touched a nerve. "Rocky are you upset because I had all those girls come to the Lookout. Forget them, let's go do something just us."
Finally Rocky sat up and turned to Zuma. "I'm not upset that you have it so easy with girls" said Rocky "I'm upset that no matter what I do, I can't get a girl to talk to me for more than a few minutes. They just don't find me interesting. I'm not athletic like you and Chase. I get nervous and chase them away. Those girl pups obviously adore you. Heck, the human girls seem to like you even."
"I-i guess I never noticed," said Zuma "honestly I was beginning to wonder if you liked girls."
"What you thought I didn't like girls," Rocky thought about it and snickered "I guess when you look at it, it might seem that way. I'm just not very experienced and typically I start talking technical and they wander off to find more interesting pups."
"Rocky, you are the smartest pup I know" said Zuma "I wish I could understand things as easy as you. You want to come hang out with us tomorrow? Surely one of those girls is smart and thinks about other things than volleyball. Shoot, they're from college."
"I don't want to get in the way," said Rocky.
"Rocky, you my best friend" said Zuma "you're never in the way. Come on you might have fun"
