Chapter 47:
They arrived back at the farmhouse the next day in the early afternoon, the dogs bounding happily around the familiar property. Kakashi unpacked their gear, putting everything in its rightful place, while Naruto stayed out in the yard with the dogs to practice some taijutsu. Starting a load of laundry, Kakashi watched Naruto fondly from the window. The young man's form was far improved from what it used to be. Kakashi was convinced now that Naruto would be more than capable of handling himself in a fight, not that he would let anyone get near his love ever again. A growl left his lips at the memories of all the people who had touched, hurt or tried to hurt his Naruto. A protective possessiveness swept over him making his hands clench to fists at his sides. He took in a few deep breaths to try and soothe his sudden flare of murderous rage. Naruto entered the room at this point, catching Kakashi off guard. Seeing Kakashi with his teeth bared in a sneer, his Sharingan swirling menacing and fists clenched at his sides, drove a shiver of fear down Naruto's spine. Kakashi quickly shook himself, trying to regain composure. He caught the look of fear in his lover's eyes, the all too familiar flash of red dancing behind his irises. "K-Kashi?" Trying to get control of his anger and not wanting to scare Naruto any further, Kakashi drops to his knees. He hugs at the blonde legs, his body tense and shaking with rage. "Sorry… bad memories." The nin hisses out between his clenched teeth. Naruto runs his fingers through Kakashi's hair trying to soothe him. "Talk to me, Kashi." Kakashi eventually released the blonde's legs, hanging his head in shame. "I'm sorry I scared you, love. I hate myself for it." Naruto joined him on the floor, pulling his chin up and giving him a bright smile, "It's okay Kashi, I'm not scared of you, I was just surprised. I know you wouldn't hurt me… What happened?" Kakashi was silent, trying to read the blondes eyes for any lingering fear. He brought his hands up to Naruto's face, cupping his cheeks in his hands to pull him in closer. Pressing soft kisses to the young man's lips he whispered, "I'm sorry I wasn't always there to protect you. I'm sorry I failed you and people hurt you. I'm sorry… I'm so sorry, love." Naruto grabbed on the nin's wrists, pulling his hands from his face harshly. "Stop it, Kashi." Kakashi stared at the blonde in confusion, his lover looked pissed off suddenly. Naruto scowled at him, suddenly yanking at the nin's shirt hem and pulling it up over his head. Pressing his fingers lightly into Kakashi's shoulder, the blonde spoke, "What about this? You remember this? How you got this scar?" Not waiting for a response he grabbed Kakashi arm, pointing out a faint line marking his skin, "And this one? What about this?" Finally the blonde grabbed the nin's wrists, bringing his hands up between them, "And these?" Kakashi's palms were badly scarred from the numerous times he had been burned by the Kyuubi's cloak. "Do not say you haven't been there to protect me, when that is all you have ever done." Kakashi's eye went wide but he shook and lowered his head, whispering, "But I wasn't always there…" Naruto snapped him up by the jaw once more, forcing the nin to look at him, "Even when you weren't there, you thought you were leaving to protect me… Stop beating yourself up for the past, Kakashi." The nin's eyes started to burn, unwelcome tears welling up in his eyes. He pulled the blonde into a bone crushing hug, burying his face into his neck. "I won't let anyone hurt you ever again, I promise you. I promise you, love. You are all I have, you are my everything." Naruto rubbed his back gently, tears spilling from his eyes now. They stayed knelt on the ground for a few more moments before Kakashi finally got control of himself. He released Naruto, pulling back from him. The blonde had tears streaking down his cheeks, his lip bit between his teeth. Kakashi winced at the pained look in his loves eyes, "Oh, love. I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to upset you." Kakashi went to pull the blonde back into a hug but Naruto grabbed his wrist, placing his palm over his chest above his heart. "Do you feel that, Kakashi? If it weren't for you I would loathe the fact that my heart was still beating. My heart beats because of and only for you." A small smile formed on the blondes lips, his beautiful blue eyes shining brightly, "You are my everything too, Kashi. I love you." Wiping the tears from the blonde's face, Kakashi smiled back weakly at him, "I love you too, Naruto."
Kakashi finally pushed himself up off the floor, helping Naruto to his feet as well, "You hungry, love?" Naruto nodded, rubbing at his eyes to try and clear away the lingering tears. Kissing him gently on the cheek, Kakashi steered him in the direction of the kitchen, "Me too, let's whip ourselves up a feast." They cooked and ate happily, talking about the previous day at the waterfall, making plans to go back to it more often. The rest of the evening was spent lounging on the couch, Kakashi getting up at one point to feed the hounds but quickly returning to Naruto's side. The blonde had taken a liking to the author of the 'Icha Icha' novels, thumbing through more of his works hastily, his cheeks flushing crimson every so often as a particularly smutty scene would pop up. Kakashi laughed, knowing the books by heart as they were some of his favorites. Reading his own novel, Kakashi didn't notice right away that Naruto had fallen asleep, head resting in his lap. Kakashi looked down at him fondly, carefully pulling the book from his fingers and marking his page. Gently lifting the blonde's head from his lap, he slid out from under him. Kakashi gave the house a quick once over, checking to make sure the doors were locked and the dogs content before scooping Naruto up in his arms and heading to bed. Pulling back the comforter, Kakashi laid the blonde down, stripping him down to his boxers before pulling the blankets up over him. Chuckling softly to himself, Kakashi undressed as well, slipping under the covers. Kakashi stretched himself out with a happy sigh, before pulling himself in close to Naruto. Draping an arm over his lover's chest, Kakashi pushes his nose into the young man's hair, breathing in his familiar, warm, intoxicating and comforting scent. A small shiver of arousal travels through his body, as he closes his eye to sleep. Kakashi's eye slowly reopens, realizing Naruto is no longer asleep. He rubs his hand gently across the blonde's chest, hoping to soothe him back to sleep. Naruto grabbed onto his hand, stilling it over his beating heart, whispering in the dark, "Make love to me, Kashi." Kakashi hums into the blonde's hair, "Yes, love." Kakashi pulls the covers over his head, crawling his way between Naruto's legs. The nin takes his time, gently kissing at every inch of the blonde's exposed flesh. Naruto's fingers are laced lightly in his hair, little gasps and sighs leaving his lips as the nin's lips travel across his body. Kakashi can feel the blonde start to quiver with need below his lips, he brings his hands up to drag the blonde free of his boxers. He cradles the blonde's head a little longer in his hands, breathing in his scent before finally pushing himself up. He pulls himself gently from Naruto, the blonde whimpering at his retreat. Kakashi pulls up his boxers and collects Narutos to wipe the blonde clean. Pressing himself gently down on top of the young man once more, he collects him into his arms and rolls them over. Now laying on his back, he settles the blonde gently between his legs, the young man's head resting on his chest. Naruto sighs happily, arms squeezing tight around Kakashi torso, "I love you so much, Kashi." The blonde sleepily murmurs out. Smiling into the darkness, Kakashi runs his fingers through his soft hair, "I love you too, my little fox." Sleep quickly claims them both.
