Chapter 49:
Kakashi woke to the sound of the tent door flapping in the ocean breeze, sitting up with a jolt upon realizing Naruto was absent. Peering out of the open tent flap, Kakashi spotted the blonde a short distance away. Naruto was standing at the water's edge in his boxers, waves lapping at his feet. Pushing his way from the tent, Kakashi made his way quickly to join him. "Good morning, love. Fancy a swim before we head home?" he murmured into the blonde ear, hugging him tightly from behind. Naruto spun in his arms, pressing a warm kiss to the nin's lips, before nodding and dashing out into the freezing water. Kakashi laughed loudly at the blonde as he breached the surface of the water, gasping, teeth quickly chattering, "So… cold…" Kakashi hastily made his way out into the water, pulling the blonde in close to him to feed him his body's heat. Body finally adjusting to the water's temperature, Naruto swam happily about, the nin sticking close to his side. Having had his fill, Naruto pulled Kakashi from the water, back to their tent, "Let's go home." The pair dressed and tore down camp, quickly setting their sights for the farmhouse.
They arrived back at the farmhouse late in the afternoon, the hounds greeting them at the gates of the property. "I'm sure you boys are hungry, let's get you fed." Kakashi petted the dogs affectionately, leading them back toward the house. Naruto's stomach growled loudly as they walked through the front door, Kakashi smiled at him, "Don't worry, love. I'll feed you too. We skipped breakfast so I'm sure you're starving." Kakashi made his way to the back of the house, dropping their gear on the workbench in the laundry room, quickly filling the dogs dishes with fresh kibble and water. Bringing his attention back to his rucksack, he dug through it until he found his map buried near the bottom. Kakashi made his way back out into the kitchen, dropping the map on the counter near the bar. "Alright, hounds are fed, time to feed you, little fox." He smiled affectionately at the blonde seated on the couch. Pulling ingredients from the fridge, Naruto was quickly at his side prepared to help him make dinner. It wasn't long before they were seated at the bar, Naruto eating with his usual enthusiasm. Kakashi rolled out the map in front of them, looking over it thoughtfully, "Alright, let's plan out our route to the Land of Keys. I think the best plan would be to leave from here and head directly west into the Land of Grass. Once through the region, we will cross into the Land of Earth, skirting above the border of the Land of Rain. We will track a little south west into the Land of Claw, pass through it west into the Land of Vegetables and continue west until we hit the Land of Keys." Naruto nodded, following the route Kakashi was outlining with his finger. Going over his pathing once more, Kakashi nodded, "Yeah, I think that's the best route. We can avoid the majority of the Land of Earth and completely avoid the Land of Rain and the Land of Mountains this way." Finished with dinner, Naruto tidied up while Kakashi made a list of supplies needed and tasks to be completed. "I'll head into town in the next day or so to pick us up some supplies. I'll also send Hiroto a message about our planned travels to make sure he is okay with watching over the farmhouse and the hounds." Naruto smiled brightly, wiping down the counter and the stove, "I can't believe we actually get to go back. I know it's only been a few months but it feels like it's been forever." Kakashi returned his smile, "It should only take us about three days to get there, I'll be sure to let the Sandaime know of our plans right away as well." Naruto watched Kakashi work at his list a bit longer, his brow furrowed in concentration, "Could you grab me a couple scrolls, love?" He went to their spare bedroom, collecting a few blank scrolls from the work table, bringing them quickly back to Kakashi. The nin first wrote out a letter to Hiroto, requesting his usual services. He penned a longer letter to the Sandaime informing him of their upcoming trip, outlining the intended route of travel and final destination. Both letters complete, Kakashi strode to the backdoor of the farmhouse, summoned two hawks and sent them away. He reentered the kitchen, collecting Naruto in his arms and giving him a tight hug, "There, all done" Kakashi kissed at the blonde's neck, smiling at the slightly salty taste left from their swim this morning. Naruto hummed happily, "I appreciate everything you have done and continue to do for me, Kashi." "Of course, love. Anything for you." Naruto pushed Kakashi slightly away, a mischievous smirk on his lips, "I want to show you how much I appreciate you…"
The blonde grabbed Kakashi by the wrist dragging him across the room and down the hall to the main bathroom. Naruto yelped, not prepared for the swift actions of the nin, "What are you doing, Kashi?" the blonde laughed out. "I'm taking you to bed, love." Kakashi set Naruto on the edge of the bed, bringing his hands up to the towel wrapped around the young man's head. He scrubbed at the young man's hair until it was mostly dry before tossing the towel into the hamper. Naruto was smiling brightly, his tired eyes twinkling at his nin. Kakashi lifted him back up once more, pulling back the blankets and laying him out beneath them. The blonde sighed happily, sinking into the soft pillows behind his head. Kakashi chuckled, making his way around the bed to the other side to crawl in. Laying down on his back, Kakashi stretched out, groaning as his tight muscles slowly relaxed. Naruto scrambled to his side almost immediately, earning a heady laugh from the nin.
