I was given this prompt by a very dear friend. I was apprehensive at first but slowly, line by line, I became enamored with it. I hope it became something, beautiful…..
I hope you feel the same way.
@QuinntanaRivera , this one's for you.
.
Are we gonna make it?
Is this gonna hurt?
Definitely not questions you ask yourself when beginning a new relationship, right?
But this is exactly where Santana and Quinn found themselves nearly two years ago.
.
.
Santana was offered a residency at NY Presbyterian Hospital right after graduating NYU Grossman at the top of her class but no one was really surprised. Why you might ask? Because this was always the plan. Growing up, Santana maintained a perfect GPA all while attending conferences with her Dad, who was a world renown surgeon, and she quickly fell in love with being able to help and possibly save people.
Quinn on the other hand was a true Fabray. Groomed and trained to follow in Russell's footsteps, she was to attend Harvard Law in Massachusetts and then take over the firm allowing Russell to retire. But Quinn didn't mind because being a lawyer had always been her dream. Long nights spent in the office and a very small social life were worth it because she knew that eventually, if she played by his rules, one day, it would all be hers.
Quinn was in New York, spending the summer with her parents when they met. Santana had just left the hospital, still in her white lab coat as she rode the subway towards her loft. Exhausted and fresh off a forty eight hour shift she could barely keep her eyes open. Sleep quickly took over and after a few minutes, she felt someone shift causing her to shoot up.
"Shit, sorry" She mumbled, crossing her arms and turning her head
"It's okay, I'm sorry I moved. I can ball up my jacket and you can use my shoulder again if you want?"
Santana rubbed her face and looked over to her left. The girl sitting next to her was the most beautiful girl she had ever seen, hands down. Her eyes widened dramatically causing the blonde to chuckle "Umm, Are you okay?" The blonde's question filled with concern and all Santana could do was nod.
"Yeah. No. I mean yeah….Sorry. Santana, I'm Santana" The brunette smiles, extending her hand
"Quinn" The blonde smiles before going back to her book
As the subway car came to a screeching halt, both girls braced themselves
"Thanks for letting me use your shoulder and again, I'm sorry" Santana smiles
Quinn nods "Don't apologize, It's the least I can do and thank you for all you do"
Both girls exit the car and turn to head in different directions, Santana is exhausted beyond recognition but even in this stream of consciousness, she knows she can't let Quinn go, not that easily.
She turns back, fighting against the crowds in search of the blonde. After a few minutes she realizes it's a losing battle. Santana takes a seat, allowing the people of Manhattan to pass her. Checking her watch she stretches and turns.
"Hi" Quinn smiles
"Hi"
Both girls stand, waiting for the other to speak before speaking at the same time
"Sorry" Santana laughs "You go ahead. I might be a little too delusional right now"
Quinn laughs "And because I knew you would be, I wanted to make sure you had my number. You know, just in case you need a jacket or shoulder or you know, anything. But I do have to warn you, I'm only in New York for three months" She reaches into her pocket, handing the girl a note "Think about it and If you're interested, give me a call." The blonde laughs "And don't worry, I definitely don't expect you to call l today, you look absolutely exhausted"
Santana nods, accepting the paper "Thanks. I'm sorry, the glamorous life of a doctor. I promise next time we speak I will be more eloquent and definitely more alert but you might have to run all that by me again"
"Absolutely. Sleep well, Doctor"
The blonde winks, rubbing Santana's arm before turning and heading out of the subway.
.
.
"Well" The blonde smiles, lowering her sunglasses "I was starting to think I'd have to be admitted to see you"
Santana laughs, taking a seat "I'm sorry Quinn, it was so hard to leave the hospital today, I…..Nevermind, doesn't matter. Please tell me about you and your day"
"It's much better now." Quinn smiles, sliding the coffee over "So tell me, how long do I get to have you this time?"
"You can have me as long as you want blondie" Santana's smile reaches from ear to ear but quickly fades once….. "Shit, I'm sorry it's the hospital paging me, it's one of my critical patients, I have to go" Santana rushes out of the cafe leaving a stunned and confused blonde.
A few moments pass and the doors to the cafe swing open, Quinn looks up and immediately feels a pair of lips attached to hers. She smiles into the kiss before pulling back
"Shit. I'm sorry I just up and left like that Q, I wasn't thinking. But I knew I couldn't make it through the rest of my hectic day without some more of these" Santana smirks, leaning in for a few more kisses as her pager continues to buzz. "Can I please take you to dinner tonight?"
Quinn furrows her eyebrows "Aren't you on call tonight?"
Santana shakes her head "Let me handle that. I want a night with just us before you head back to Boston again. Please?"
Quinn nods, pulling the brunette's jacket "You're lucky you're hot Lopez"
"See you tonight babe" Santana smiles into the kiss before pulling away and rushing out of the cafe causing Quinn to laugh.
