"We had the right love just maybe at the wrong time"
Santana's words echoing as the memories continue flooding. Quinn sighs, looking out of her office window.
Great. Another gloomy Friday she thought. It's days like this that have her missing the sunny skies of Boston but deep down she knew, ultimately she did the right thing in moving to New York a few months ago .
Reaching for her umbrella and laptop bag she begins making her way home. Remembering to keep her focus trained on the ground like she always does, she makes her way through the sea of people. Quinn stands on the sidewalk corner waiting for the light to change when a familiar perfume invades her senses, followed by a gasp.
"What are you doing here?" She hears, looking to her left.
There stands a vision. Not just any vision, she's a vision Quinn hasn't been able to see in almost two years.
The blonde inhales deeply as if all the oxygen in the world has been returned to her. A small smile playing on her lips as she's finally able to feel her heart pitter patter wildly against her chest.
Santana looks up towards the sky once more, her right hand immediately covering the watch on her left as her eyes close briefly and she inhales deeply. When the light changes she jerks her head back as the pair safely cross the street.
"It's a long story…." Quinn finally responds, keeping her focus on the brunette.
Santana looks absolutely overwhelmed. As if she's discovered the answer to every question she's ever had. She had always bragged about being hot and loving the attention but she never quite knew how to handle the intense gaze and stare of one, Quinn Fabray. Santana was pretty sure by now, Quinn was the only person in the world, no universe, that could dismantle all her defenses with a single look.
Quinn always had a confidence about her, it was a staple of her personality. One of the many, no, thousands of things Santana loved and admired about the blonde. Quinn never had to try too hard, she simply was…..
And that's part of what amazed and captivated the brunette.
Returning from her reverie, Santana awkwardly adjusts her stance and umbrella while keeping her focus on the blonde.
Quinn smiles softly, her memory cascading back…..

"Excuse me young lady. You're doing what!" Judy yells, storming into Quinn's office.
Quinn exhales, placing the final frame into a box before turning around "You heard me mother. I'm going back to New York. I'll figure out what to do for a job when I get there but right now I could care less."
"What about the firm?"
"What about it? I've given up more than I ever thought I would have too for this firm and for what? For Dad to leave it all to FRANNY?"
Judy takes a seat "It wasn't supposed to be like that, Lucy he had a plan…."
"Save it mom" Quinn moves the box to the chair before sitting next to her mom "I stayed longer than I should have. I built my life around this firm, I gave up literally everything and what do I have to show for it?" She exhales "So I'm going back. I doubt Santana will be waiting for me and maybe I won't even be able to see her but at least I'll be close and maybe eventually, I can try and make it up to her"
Judy nods before opening her purse "You know, you're just like your father, when he set his mind to something" She exhales "Since you've made up your mind. You're going to be needing this."
Quinn furrows her eyebrows, accepting the keys
"Your father bought the office building in New York six months ago, he was planning on giving you New York and having Franny stay here in Boston"
Quinn exhales deeply "Wait, what?"
"He loved you very much Lucy and believe it or not he saw and appreciated the sacrifices you made. He would have been so proud of you, finally fighting for what you want. So go get set up in New York and let Franny know what you need"
Quinn nods as both Fabray's stand to embrace
"I love you Lucy"
"I love you too, mom"
.
.
"I have some time" Santana whispers, pulling Quinn from her thoughts
Quinn nods "Maybe we can get a coffee?"
The brunette nods "I would love that. I was so sorry to hear about Russell's passing, my dad told me. You look good though but that isn't a surprise, you've always been one of the strongest people I know. Sorry" She laughs
"I think I'm rambling"
A blush rises as Quinn ducks her face.
"Don't apologize, It's...It's cute. And Thank you, for your kind words, I truly appreciate them. You look really good too. It's really great being able to see you again Santana"
"It's great seeing you too, Lu….Quinn"
"See you soon?" Quinn nods once more before securing the bag over her shoulder. Both girls turn, continuing their separate journeys in different directions.
Santana takes a few steps and her phone buzzes. Her breath hitches at seeing a certain name that hasn't graced her phone in a long time, she stops her in her tracks. Realization hits immediately as she reads and rereads the text. She decides to slowly turn back around….
I will love you either way.
P.s
I'm in New York now, for good.
Just thought you should know.
Quinn tilts her head to the side and shrugs, lowering her bag and umbrella. Santana walks back with purpose, offering her umbrella as refuge for both of them. As the rain haphazardly bounces off the New York sidewalks, people huff in annoyance at having to sidestep the pair.
Quinn places her hand over Santana's causing her to lower the umbrella. Neither makes a move or says a word, they simply allow the rain to encompass them, staring into each other's eyes.
It might be so sweet
It might be so bitter
I will love you either way
