BABIES BEHIND BARS.

A week or so after Miss Susannah Murdoch made her entrance to the word, William and Julia decided to introduce her to the lads from Station House 4, as well as Miss Hart. It would be a small after hours gathering, so most of the constables wouldn't be disturbed and they could bring their loved ones, to join the celebration.

It was a joyful gathering indeed, Effie and Ruth were also there, as well as Mrs. Brackenreid and even Milo Strange came to congratulate the older couple. Susannah was passed arm to arm, since everyone closed to the detective and Dr. Ogden wanted to take a closer look on their offspring, commenting how beautiful and fluffy she was.

Everything was fine, Thomas offered William his best scotch and they toast, when suddenly, a comment made by Henry, made everything goes downhill.

''Hope she don´t end behind bars, Sir, although I suppose she and Jordan could share some experience about it. He laugh, making William pale.

''Henry!'' the detective exclaimed.

''William, what's that suppose to mean?'' Julia frowned.

''Ah… Nothing, Julia, you know Henry, he´s talking nonsense.'' The old detective gasped.

''Detective, my Henry is a respectable constable, he never speaks nonsense.'' Ruth scold him.

''Its alright Ruthie, never mind…'' the constable suggested embarrassed.

''Now I want to know,'' Julia looked angry. ''What happened you old man?'' she asked and in response, the detective looked to Effie, for support.

''Oh no Detective, don't look at me, I'm not going to be your attorney at this!'' Effie said, getting Ruth´s side.

''Let the man speak,'' stop the Inspector. ''What happened, Murdoch, Higgins?''

''Well Sir, it was when you, Miss Newsome, Julia and Miss Cherry went to the game match…''

''Basketball, William!'' Julia corrects him.

''This! So, I came here to work on my Aero-Surveillance-Ground-Control Camera and Henry had brought baby Jordan here…''

''Oh, yes, I remember, that day I was on a tea party with my friends, so I ask Henry to take care of our daughter, but, why you brought her here?''

''I was on duty sweetie, McNabb asked my assistance on a robbery case, so I asked the Detective if he could watch her while I left.'' Henry explained.

''The Detective he means, Detective Murdoch, I had just came here to take my hat which I had forgotten, it was my day off…''

''Why and how the baby ended up on the cells?'' asked the Inspector.

''I put her there, thinking she could go to sleep, so I could work… but she escaped…'' replied the old detective.

''Oh, that's why I found her on the sidewalk, playing with that advice?'' asked Watts.

''WHAT?'' Ruth was scandalized ''Did you heard that, Julia?''

''It was all my fault, I should have taken her with me to the crime scene, Sir…''

''No, you shouldn´t Henry!'' Murdoch reprehended him.

''And you shouldn´t have put his daughter on jail, William!'' Julia exclaimed. ''What on earth, old man? What should I think now? Don´t tell me you me you had done this with poor Roland as well. And your own daughter, you will put her behind bars if she bother you while you work? Honestly William.''

''What, Julia… I didn't do that on purpose, I just didn´t know where to keep her safe… anyhow, they are just babies, they wont going to remember this on the future!'' he said.

Of course that comment had made the older detective sleep on the couch for more nights than he wished for. Still, he promised to never put any baby behind bars ever again, much less, his own daughter Susannah.
