Hayley was in the breakroom with the kids, they were asleep, she couldn't sit around anymore. Quietly she opened the door, went through it, she quietly closed it behind her. Kim saw her and followed her down the corridor.
"Hayley where are you going?" Kim asked, Hayley stopped and rolled her eyes letting out a long breath.
"Outside I'm not under arrest, you can't keep me here anymore! The kids are safe here with you guys, you don't need me here. I'm going stir crazy stuck in there. I am going to the car park I promise I'm not leaving; I'll be right back." She argued.
"No Hayley you can't go out there!" Jay's voice came from behind them, "What's going on with you? Talk to me, please?" Hayley jumped at his voice.
Kim looked at Hayley "You ok if I leave you guys together?" Hayley nodded and took a deep breath.
"Jay this isn't me, I'm a nanny! I belong at home, not in a police district" Jay walked towards her taking her hand and pulling her into the Wire room. Looking at her with hooded eyes, he glanced at her lips and then into her eyes again, his hands travelled up her arms over her sweater to her neck, his thumbs grazing her cheeks, "Don't look at me like that Jay, it's not fair!"
"I'm sorry but, how am I looking at you?" he questioned with a smile.
"I'm not happy with you! I feel trapped in this building. You know what I'm like, I need to walk it off." She was frustrated and walked away from Jay.
"Why are you mad at me? What did I do now?" he asked confused.
"Well Erin took great delight in telling me"
"Ok! stop! if Erin told you something, it wasn't true!" he cut in. Walking towards her hands up in surrender.
"So, you didn't sleep with a hooker last week?" she asked him, she raised her left eyebrow at him. In her mind she didn't care, seeing him here, in this room, she just wanted to be near him, to hold him, to kiss him. Walking towards him she continued to talk to him. "Erin came to the house last week when you went MIA, I asked if she caught up to you and her reply was that she found you in bed with a hooker? I know we weren't, whatever this is we are doing but, it still caught me off guard. Then just now I realised I don't care; I think, what we have so far is a good thing, I'm not going to let her get in my head. Just do me a favour, promise me you will tell me the truth and if you find someone else that you want to be with long term, that you will finish with me first?" her voice had become thick, she had tears in her eyes.
"I'm all in, I've fallen for you hook line and sinker. You are my long term. As for Erin she has been trying it on for years, even before Amy passed away, she knew we were on rocky ground. Erin was also dating a fire fighter at the time, so she had seen Amy out with some of them. I'm sorry. Please just work with me on this and stay here please. I need you to be safe." He pleaded with her, he had put his arms round her waist and his lips found the side of her neck, he kissed down from her ear to her shoulder. His nose ran back up to her ear again, his lips finding the spot that made her shiver and say his name with a gasp. Hayley pulled away and looked into Jays eyes.
"Jay, I'm in too, we need to just get this over with. I had an idea, has he left a voice message? I might recognise his voice, maybe?" she asked hopefully.
"I can ask, kiss me before we go in there?" they kissed again, slowly showing the other how much they meant to each other. Jay gently backs Hayley to the closest wall, hands all over each other gentle but desperate to touch to feel. They stop jay resting his forehead on hers, kissing her nose and stepping back from her, his eyes heavy with desire and wanting, she exhales opening her eyes and biting her bottom lip.
They made their way back into the bullpen, Hank stood talking to the team.
"You ok Hayley?" Hank asked. "I know this hard on you, the sooner we catch him the sooner you can leave I promise."
"Do you have a voice recording of him from when he rang? Maybe I will recognise him from that?" She stood tall staring Erin down.
"I'll ask Platt if she can pull his call up from earlier" Kim ran downstairs.
"Erin my office now, the rest of you carry on." Hank demanded.
In Hanks office he looked at Erin and gave her the dad look, the look that said, "I know what you are trying to do!" he went on "Stop it! Jay is happier than he has been in a long time. Let him be happy, you don't even like kids, so why would you get involved with him. You know them kids are his life. He would literally die for them. Leave him be Erin!"
Erin looked out at the bullpen, a sly smile on her face as she looked back at Hank, "You're my boss, you can't tell me who I can and can't hang around with. Maybe I can change, get to like them. What does he see in her anyway! He's known her a month if that and he's all googly eyed over her. How do we know she isn't in on it with the killer?"
The door opens and Kim comes in, she's got a serious look on her face, she looks from Hank to Erin.
"Sarge, we have a problem!" she walked out of Hanks office and stands next to Hayley who has tears running down her face.
"Do you know who he is Hayley?" Hank asked placing his hand on her shoulder.
Nodding Hayley sat down on the closest desk. She took a deep breath and pulled herself together.
"Ok so, I was a nanny for a guy who owned a paint factory before I went to DC. He was using the factory as a front for his heroine distribution centre. He had two kids aged 13 and 10 they were great kids. It was an easy job, it was too easy really, His name is Ronnie Booth. I was friends with a guy who worked with Ronnie, the kids had gone to their moms for the holidays, it was New Year, there was a party, we had had a few drinks, Booth, he saw Garret and I kissing in the corridor, he asked to speak to me in his office." She took a shaky breath again; Kim took over telling the group what happened.
"Garret heard him shouting he stated he could hear punches and kicks; he broke the door down. He managed to pull Booth off Hayley, but she was a mess when we got to the hospital too her. He tried to Rape her! thank god Garret caught him, Garret was undercover though he was trying to work Hayley so she would help take Booth down."
"I didn't know what was happening though, honestly if I had I would have walked away. Garret want missing the next day. I got a job with Maggie six weeks later, a clean break from Chicago. I'm back two months and he find me! How did he get out?" Hayley said.
"He got 6 years then was let out due to overcrowding. Am I ok to open this file Hayley?"
"Yeah, you need to find him he's sick in the head, he will get to whoever he can get to, to draw me out. He won't care who it is. You need to use me to trap him!" she was becoming hysterical. "I'm deadly serious Hank, he's sick in the head."
"Hayley calm down" Kim tried to sooth her friend.
"Kim, you saw what he did to me last time and that was me! He thought I was a cop!"
"Mommy?" Mikayla stuck her head through the door. "Lydia is crying!"
"I'll go sort her!" Hayley said walking away from the group and into the break room. She wasn't sure how long she was in there, but she was falling asleep when Kim came into her taking a seat at the table.
"Kim, I have to leave, I have to make it safe for the kids to go home or somewhere, they can't stay here, it's not fair on them." Tears stream down her face. "I'll wear a wire, or you can track me or whatever you do, Please Kim? I'm sorry I brought this to your door."
"Stop this is not your fault, ok? The first thing we are going to do is take the kids to my place. Then we are going to try and find him by tracking him with traffic cams or his phone, you are going to stay here and then we are going to let you go for a walk on the waterfront, we're not going to tell Jay that we are setting you up though. When you leave if Booth is watching you then there needs to be an argument between the two of you. Booth needs to think that you are at odds to think he has power over the situation. Hopefully he will be so caught up in the fact he has you withing his grasp that he won't notice us following you. Are you in?" Hayley looked hesitant, and Kim could sense it.
"You will make sure the kids are safe right? And Jay, you'll keep him safe? Promise me Kim?"
"I promise you I will do my best" Hayley throws herself at Kim and they held each other. "Hayley, I love you so much, I can't believe I'm doing this! You're like a sister too me, I'll be lost without you!"
"Kim, I love you too and it'll be ok! Let's get this over with. OK?"
"Ok stay in here till I come get you!" Hayley sat back and looked at the ceiling the anxiety was bubbling inside her, looking at the kids she realised that she was doing the right thing, the sooner this was over with the sooner they could go home and get back into a routine. She just praying that she would be going with them.
The kids were tucked up in their beds at the hotel, Kim's sister had the three of them and Adam was staying with them for the night. There had been a car sat outside the district all night, the occupier was waiting, it was only a matter of time till she left. The kids had been taken away, he had seen them in the car, he followed them to make sure Hayley wasn't with them, only now he was worried he'd missed her sneaking out. That was until he saw her in an upstairs window, now it was a matter of time before she left.
The sun was rising, it was time to end this game of cat and mouse. Kim had taken Hayley downstairs and rigged her up with wires and a tracking device. Kim had asked Hayley to wait whilst she rang up to get Jay to come and try and stop her from going, they'd hugged and planned this to perfection. Hayley was stood by the gate when Jay came rushing out, the sun came streaming down and her hair was around her face, she looked like an angel.
"Hayley where are you going? We agreed that you would stay, and we would find him together. This isn't the answer. Please?" he begged her.
It took everything Hayley had not to break down and run into Jays arms. His eyes glistened as the emotion shone in them, he was trying not to show his emotions, but Hayley could tell he was breaking down.
"Jay! you need to back off. I am not under arrest, you can't stop me from leaving, go back inside and do whatever it is you do up there and leave me alone." She goes to leave but he grabs her arm. "Jay, let go of me now!" hesitantly he does "Leave me alone Jay I need some time!"
Jay has a eureka moment, Hayley see's it and panics, but she turns and walks the other way, getting to the end of the block before stopping and taking a breath. She ducks into a coffee shop and buys a coffee. Kim had joked once that Hayley had coffee inside her veins not blood, Jay had come to see why, he knew that the first this she would do on a morning is come downstairs and make coffee. She walked to the river walk and sat on a bench. It was empty apart from a few dog walkers, perfect timing for this to go down. She felt someone sit on the bench next to her she didn't need to look up to see it was Booth, she could smell him, Tabaco and old spice, she struggled not to heave.
"Hello Hayley! It's been a long time; I've been watching you and you seem to have a thing for cops! Is that why you wouldn't sleep with me? Cause I wasn't a cop?" Looking at him she acts surprised and scared.
"Booth what the hell? How did you know where I was?"
"Answer me Hayley, is it because I'm not a cop? This new one is a pretty boy, is he good in bed?" he sneered at her.
"He's my boss, I didn't sleep with you because you were my boss, I'm not sleeping with Jay he is my Boss. Look I need to go the kids will be up soon." Hayley stood to walk away booth stood too and he grabs her arm, Hayley had learned from her last run in with Booth, she had taken some self defence lessons and Maggie had made her train in case anything happened to her whilst she had the kids in DC. The thing is they needed Booth to rough her up a bit. To attempt to kidnap her, it was working he took out a knife, put it to her side and spat through gritted teeth.
"You are going to walk to me van, and you are going to get in without a fuss, do you understand?" he looked around to see if anyone was looking.
"OK, let's go." Truth be told knife or no knife she would have gone with him. She wouldn't be getting in his van though.
The team had been watching, they had put a tracker on his van, he wouldn't be getting far. Jay was seething. Kim was in big trouble, if anything happens to Hayley he will never forgive either of them. He knew now wasn't the time to let his emotions to get to him.
Hayley was walking with him to his car she was playing along she seemed fine on the outside, on the inside she was a mess. Booth opened the side door to the van and went to push Hayley in, she started to struggle, he punched her in the face knocking her out cold.
The team knew now was the time to close in on him, they closed in around the van, when he saw them, he froze punching the steering wheel. He knew he'd been caught and there was no way out.
Kim pulled the door open and Hayley was sitting holding her head. Blood trickled out from her eyebrow. Booths rein was over, she could go home and sleep in a real bed. Whether it was home or not she didn't know, she just wanted a bed.
