Author's Note from Mat49324: Well, as we approach March, I've decided to have a little fun with another one-shot with assistance from The Blue Time Ranger. Last time, we had a one-shot that was based on a prior sub-plot from one of our projects that led to our fanfiction series, Totally Spies: The New Adventures. It was titled Aquatic Antics, and it was based on the sub-plot of Affairs of the Heart. This time, it's an original idea where the spies do something on the beach that's commonplace in quite a few places besides my home state of Hawaii. So, for now, here's The Blue Time Ranger if he's got something he'd like to say.
Author's Note from The Blue Time Ranger: Spring is on the way (thank god, says this observer) so what better way to welcome its eventual return with a one-shot in Hawaii? I won't bloat my author's notes, so let's just ROLL IT!
Title: Sam-Up Paddling
Summary: On another Hawaiian holiday, the spies try something new for them, but Sam's a bit nervous about it.

1:07 P.M. – Hawaii (Oahu's North Shore)
It was another great Hawaii vacation that the seven spies were enjoying courtesy of Jerry.
"We need to come here a lot more often," Alex replied as she looked off in the distance.
Sam and Nick were looking off in the distance, too.
"Totally," Sam replied.
"I concur on that," Nick responded.
She sported her red and white tie-on bikini... feeling that a bikini was best appropriate for her on this particular beach day.
"I know we've had our share of Hawaii vacays," Nick added as Alex, Clover, Blaine, and Britney came back themselves with shaved ice. "This certainly ranks up there."
"O-M-G, girls!" Clover exclaimed.
She had on a pink string bikini; Alex had on her green bikini as well; Britney had a blue bikini on, while all the guys had their board shorts on.
"Totally," Alex added. "They're teaching how to stand-up paddleboard."
"That's pretty fun," Mat replied, knowing he was used to seeing stuff like that.
"You tried it before?" Britney asked Mat.
"Actually, no," Mat answered. "But I admit it'd be fun; stand-up paddleboarding is pretty fun as long as nobody loses lunch."
"True," Nick replied. "If you can't handle a boat, don't try a paddleboard."
"Sounds kinda normal," Alex commented.
"And Hawaii does have luck on its side with no power out for days in many years, too," Mat added.
"That's lucky indeed," Britney replied.
"So, anybody up for trying something new?" Nick asked with a single clap of his hands.
"Might as well," Blaine answered.
"We gotta learn how to, though," Mat pointed out.
Nobody objected and got to find someone to learn how.
After all that, all the spies got to try for the first time in a nearby stream for a first lesson.
"From what I can tell, paddleboarding's kinda like surfing, except you just move with your hands and it's not as fast," Nick quipped.
"That's about the basics, I think," Mat responded.
"Let's hope it's not as tricky as surfing was, because I still remember all of the fails I went through before I learned how to do that," Nick proclaimed.
"Same here, Nick," Britney laughed. "That was a learning experience."
"Do you think it was as tough as learning how to swim?" Alex asked her boyfriend. "Because from what Haruka's told us, you used to be really bad at it."
"That's about right, Alex," Nick sighed. "I think the biggest hurdle of learning how to swim was actually learning how to float. That was the part I was worried the most about, to be honest."
"Usually, that's the part you've gotta learn before you learn other things about swimming," Sam replied.
"I still don't know why my old swim coach was so bad at swim coaching," Nick groaned. "Seriously, it boggles my mind to this very day."
"Thank goodness Haruka was able to help you, huh?" Clover chuckled.
"No kidding," Nick replied. "Now If only she would stop teasing me every time she sees me near a pool..."
"She's just having fun, really," Alex giggled.
Suddenly, Alex got a wicked idea. She waited until she was sure Nick wasn't looking before deciding to strike a cute pose, much like Haruka would do. When Nick looked back at Alex doing her pose, he couldn't help but stare in awe, not realizing that he was losing his balance on his paddleboard until it was too late, and he tumbled off his board and into the water.
Once that happened, Alex couldn't help but start laughing as Nick resurfaced, a piercing expression highlighting his face.
"...you did that on purpose," Nick quipped.
"...maybe?" Alex chuckled.
Nick responded by leaping forward to tackle Alex into the water as well. While those two were having fun, Mat noticed that Sam was looking slightly nervous, and decided to paddle over to her to see what was up.
"You okay?" Mat asked.
"I think I'm having a bit of nerves doing this the first time," Sam answered. "I'm fine."
"Don't feel bad, Sammy," Clover replied. "Blaine's having trouble, too."
Blaine had fallen off his paddleboard and had gotten back on.
"Twice already," Blaine told Sam.
"Besides, what's a bathing suit for anyway?" Britney laughed.
"My thoughts exactly," Clover quipped.
"It beats sitting on the beach everyday just running in and out of the water for a certain period of time," Blaine added.
"And only in Hawaii can you wake up and play in the ocean every single day this way," Mat pointed out.
Alex grinned at that; she heard that loud and clear.
"No kidding," Alex giggled. "One of the many reasons I love Hawaii so much."
"True, but you can do that in BH, too," Clover retorted playfully.
"Yeah, true," Mat replied. "But not year-round."
"Got me there," Clover laughed.
"I guess you're the luckiest, Mat," Nick laughed.
"You could say that," Mat replied as the spies continued their stand-up paddleboarding.
A gust of wind blew, and Sam and Clover wound up losing their balance and falling in the water.
"Two overboard," Nick joked.
Britney laughed quite a bit herself until she lost her balance, too and fell in the water. Blaine, Alex, and Mat were next.
"See? Harder than it looks," Mat laughed after he resurfaced.
"Oof, I noticed," Sam quipped.
Before long, Mat and Nick felt an urge to try to move their stand-up paddleboarding where the waves were.
"Hey, guys, how about we try out on the waves?" Mat asked the others.
"I don't know... this is our first time doing stand-up paddleboarding, after all," Britney replied.
"Why not?" Alex quipped, feeling adventurous.
"And I proclaim we end the day with a merry chase on the beach in the sunset," Nick added.
With that, the seven spies took their stand-up paddling to the waves.
"Keep the balance, keep the balance..." Alex chanted as she adjusted herself little bits at a time so she could, well, keep her balance.
Nick was having just about the same success at it, especially since he'd promised himself he wouldn't cheat by using his psychic powers.
It was definitely nice to know that everyone was having some difficulty with it.
Thankfully, practice makes perfect, as the old adage went, and it wasn't too much longer before all seven of the spies were able to reasonably keep their balance on their paddleboards.
"Hey, we're naturals at this!" Clover laughed.
Nick couldn't resist having a bit of fun, and used a quick psychic push to send Clover off of her board.
"...you did that on purpose," Clover proclaimed.
"Maybe," Nick laughed, only to find himself knocked into the water courtesy of a big splash from Clover in retaliation. "...okay, maybe I deserved that."
So, the spies all decided to have some fun after their paddleboard session, making sure to save enough energy for their beach chase later.
"I see you back there, Mat," Sam giggled as Mat attempted to ambush her from behind.
"Maybe I wanted you to find me," Mat laughed as he paddled closer to Sam so they could share a kiss.
"Look at those two," Clover laughed, seemingly not noticing that Nick was swimming right under her.
When Nick swam up to lunge, however, Clover paddled away as fast as she could so that Nick missed her by that much, then jumped off of her paddleboard so she could pounce on Nick and dunk him before he knew what was happening.
"That was revenge for earlier, wasn't it?" Nick laughed once he'd resurfaced.
"Maybe," Clover teased. "And so what if it is?"
"Then you're gonna have to take my revenge, Clover," Alex proclaimed rather dramatically as he leaped to dunk Clover herself. "You may be my bestie, Clover, but nobody dunks my boyfriend but me!"
Clover quickly re-surfaced just in time for another glorious water battle to begin.
The spies managed to find their paddleboards nearby since there wasn't a swell churning anytime soon.
"Good thing," Mat replied. "The water can be unpredictable, especially here."
"I believe that, dude," Nick remarked.
Blaine looked like he was having the time of his life in Hawaii, especially with Clover.
"Mat, I think I understand the concept of where you come from," Alex laughed.
"Well, take some mental notes, Alex," Mat replied with a chuckle. "Other than that, I'm glad you understand the concept."
"I guess that comes with the different lifestyle," Nick laughed.
"Better believe it," Mat quipped.
Sam and Britney shared a laugh, too.
"Oh, wow," Sam remarked checking her watch after a while. "I didn't realize it was already after 5:00..."
"Well, there's still daylight left, Sammy," Alex quipped.
"Yeah, we got plenty of time before our beach chase," Nick added.
"One more sesh out here won't hurt us," Clover added.
"My thoughts exactly," Mat grinned.
Alex could only imagine how big their dinner would be when that time came. She couldn't help but drool slightly at the thought, but she was brought back to reality when she fell off her board and was engulfed by a wave.
Nick was slightly worried, but Alex was quick to pop up.
"Where'd you wander off to, Alex?" Britney laughed.
"Sorry, was thinking of dinner," Alex giggled.
The seven all got a good laugh out of it.
"We're a ways away from dinner," Mat replied. "But don't talk about food anymore before we ALL get hungry."
"I'm seconding that," Nick laughed.
Blaine was no different.
When they were nearing their time up, Britney decided to goof off a bit and jump off. Everybody caught on and did the same thing.
After deciding to buy the paddleboards (all thanks to Clover and her credit card spending, and the store having a "try before you buy" option), the spies took to the shore again for their beach chase.
"Well, another day in the books," Alex sighed.
They put down their paddleboards next to their essentials; not a lot of people were still on the beach as the sunset was pretty soon.
"I'll break the ice here," Mat replied and went after Sam playfully.
Sam gasped, but she grinned as Mat chased her up and down the shoreline and in the water. Britney got in the spirit and ran after them.
"Here they go," Alex chuckled.
"Up for one, Beautiful?" Blaine offered.
"I thought you'd never ask," Clover chuckled with a grin.
Much to Blaine's surprise, she instigated their own chase.
"How about it, Nick? You wanna follow their example?" Alex giggled.
"Do you really need an answer for that, Alex?" Nick laughed as he started playfully chasing Alex across the beach.
All in all, it was a very eventful chase for the seven spies, especially when Alex decided to chase down Britney for a bit, which had surprised her so much that she ended up taking a dive into a sand dune. Thankfully, Britney had gotten revenge later by managing to dunk Alex in the water after she'd missed a lunge.
"Ah, that was fun," Clover giggled.
"Always appreciate your time off," Nick quipped. "Especially in our line of work."
"I definitely feel ya on that one," Britney laughed.
Suddenly, a low growling noise caught everyone's attention, even as Alex tried to look sheepish about it.
"You know what? I think Alex has the right idea," Nick stated. "I'm getting kinda hungry myself."
"Well, then, let's go see what the local eatery has in store," Sam quipped.
"I'm all for that!" Alex laughed.

Author's Notes from Mat49324: Well, we're through with another one-shot. If you're familiar with stand-up paddleboarding or have done it before, then kudos to you. Hope you enjoyed this. For now, here's The Blue Time Ranger with anything he'd like to say.
Author's Notes from The Blue Time Ranger: As the last vestiges of winter stick around like an unwanted head-cold in my neck of the woods, we've got another Hawaii-based oneshot to hopefully warm you guys up (though hopefully spring will start creeping back in by the time this gets posted, who knows?)
That's really all I have to say except for the usual, so, until next time, have a fantastic day, don't listen to the screeching morons, and we'll see you next mission!
