Chapter Two
As usual, when 'Kin' arrived at school. Friends or the teachers gathered and whisked her away. 'Amaya' arrived at the front gate at another school. Everyone cleared a path for her. She would graduate from 8th grade in a little over a week. She had the best grades and attendance as both of her identities. So now the only thing left to do was put in an extra effort perhaps, to read the textbooks she hasn't had the chance to get to, or usually wouldn't be permitted to. /Convince the principal to let her friends and herself to use the cafeteria to set up a special surprise for the teachers.
"What high school are you going to?" Goro was her closest friend. He had brown, black, red, and silver-grey hair, that was long and tied back in a half knot and a huge turkey tail that he would fan out proudly whenever he was around the girls in class. That doesn't really work with human girls... "We should go to the same high school; I think that would be really fun." I think I've picked out the ones I like. /Goro's quirk's strange, he couldn't get into them. /I won't tell him that.
"You want to spend the summer with me and my twin sister?"
"I didn't know you have a sister!? A twin sister!? (more shouting, gobbling, and questions...
(Goro's quirk: Turkey. He just has a turkey tail and can gobble/talk turkey.)
I didn't realize people forgot about 'Amaya'. I thought everyone already knew. But I mean, different schools, drastic difference in friends, attitudes, and places frequented. Wow. "Um yeah, I guess we read each other's minds. And we definitely like the same things, for the most part..." If you count the fact that I can't taste anything as 'Amaya'. /Plus I don't think I really look like twins anymore. So maybe I should just tell everyone I'm just sisters? "Oh funny, no we don't look exactly alike. You won't get us mixed up." I think my 'Amaya' identity is taller, and- "No, I would say our styles are very different, you won't get us mixed up." my 'Kin' identity has chubbier cheeks from all the pastries. Am I fat? "I'm not fat right!? Goro!" She shrieked suddenly. He stumbled back startled. Oh, I was too loud. /He's such a moron sometimes.
'Dear Kin Kobayashi,
Forgive me for using my quirk on you please. I'd like to ask if you would meet me after school? I have admired you for some time, and I want to talk with you before the school year is over. You may not know me, I'm not from your class.
Signed, your secret admirer.'
It was a letter. Was it a telepath quirk of some sort? It had been delivered into her mind, and she was unable to respond back to it.
"Excuse me, Amaya Kobayashi."
"Mr. Shimizu." 'Amaya' answered, respectful but not intrigued. He didn't need to say more or signal. He turned and she followed him silently. The halls were noisy at the end of the school day. Students gathering in groups at the lockers before racing and pushing each other eager to leave campus. Finally escaping the crowds, the teacher leaned back against the wall.
"What high school do you plan to go to? Amaya?"
She opened her mouth to answer, but he cut her off.
"Have you thought about, U.A.?"
U.A. The heroes' school. "Well n-"
"I think you should try to get in. It would be a great opportunity for you. Change your life. I don't know why Amaya. But you're a cold individual, but your bright and strong."
"Thank you very much."
"…I can never tell if there is any enthusiasm behind what you say. ...Will you try?"
She lowered her mask so she could smile at him. Mr. Shimizu had wanted to go to U.A. It was no secret. He had taken a liking to 'Amaya', because of her quirk, and how quickly she learned. He wanted to stay in touch with a possible hero. Wanted to be proud of encouraging a new pro.
'Kin' left the school building, looking around as she headed for the steps. That must be them. A boy at the bottom of the steps looking directly at her. The first thing she couldn't help but notice was the pink hoodie. As she was getting closer, his feathery pink hair, plain white baseball cap worn backwards. Shockingly bright red eyes, and his rectangular glasses. 'Kin' stopped right in front of him. "Hey, it was you who wanted to see me right?" She held out her hand. "I'm Kin, in the flesh."
He nods and pushes up his glasses before he shakes her hand. "My name is Shuichi. I'm sorry for using my quirk to tell you to meet me. I was hoping, you'd be cool with hanging out with me over the summer?"
"Why not!? I think that'd be fun. What's your quirk?"
"Messenger. I write something down, then I can send it directly to someone in their mind. But I can't read minds, and the person I sent it to can't send any answer back."
"Oh wow! That's really cool."
"Yeah! I think it's cool, thanks."
Goro suddenly appears. "Hey Kin! Who's this, he coming out with us?" He points at Shuichi.
"Goro, this is Shuichi. Hey Shuichi, we're going to the pet store, just to look at the animals and stuff. But if you want to come?"
"Sure thing!"
"Hey, you. Amaya was it?" 'Amaya' stopped and looked over her shoulder, it was unusual for someone to call out to her. It had to be a guy, she could tell by his voice, but she couldn't see him.
"Yes." She confirmed in a disinterested tone. Only as an answer to his question, she didn't want to hear what he had to say. The fact that she had been followed, it made her stomach churn. Feelings of fear and guilt, anger. She faced forward and continued walking. She heard his irritated scoff,
"I'm not done!"
She didn't flinch or faulter in step. His grumbling made it obvious he didn't like being ignored. When she heard him coming toward her, she ran.
"Seriously!?... Why is she so fast!?"
Of course, as fate would have it, she tripped. There was nothing to trip on! /How lucky. There was no time wasted as she pulled off her gloves as she rolled on her side and hastily got up. He was right in front of her when she turned around, but he stumbled back when he saw her pale hands.
"Wait." He held his hands up in surrender. She could see him now, he, to say the least, was a total freak. His neck was raw with scratches and bleeding from freshly torn off scabs. His eyes sunken. His skin a sickly color. Horribly chapped lips. The unnatural color of his hair, unbrushed, hanging in front of his eyes and around his face. "Don't be rude." Her eyes held disgust and pity, and she had been staring at him for maybe a whole minute. He slowly took a step toward her, but she took a quick threatening step first, her hands between them. He took a couple steps back instead. "This isn't going like I planned." He grumbled under his breath.
"What is it you had planned?" 'Amaya' demanded, but the demand held no vigor and sounded dull. She scanned the streets and buildings around them. There was plenty of people around, even a pro posing for a kid. But nobody noticed what was going on. You have got to be kidding me. Bone headed people. /I understand now why criminals get away with so much. I could shout. She made a vow to pay more attention, more than she already had after that incident. Not just for herself this time.
"...You're a real pretty thing." He was changing the subject; she could tell he was trying to flatter her. She didn't like it. "I-I take that back!" he flinched as she glared.
Now she raised a brow. This guy is weird.
He began scratching mercilessly at his neck. "Alright look, we're not too different."
She gave him an unimpressed hum and replied with bored sarcasm. "For sure."
"Why I'm here, I want you-"
Now she stiffened, hands glowing a faint pale grey. "Is that so?" her voice was sharper and strained this time.
"Not like that! Not like that! I want, you, to join, m-my gang."
Box of candied words. He's speaking so carefully.
"I've seen your quirk. I saw."
Ah, I see now. He knows. He saw. What does he want? /Has he been stalking me that long? He came closer for every step she took back. She stopped when they came to the curb. His grin chilled her to the bone.
"In that alley you-" He leaned forward, probably to whisper in her ear, but 'Amaya' didn't want him any closer. She pushed him back hard. He gasped as he stumbled and fell on his butt. She glared at him and stood over him now.
"J-just think about it!? I'm keeping it a secret. Can we have a deal?"
"Perhaps." He likely already knew quite a bit about her. "I need to know more of course."
"Of course." Scratching at his neck, he muttered a bit under his breath. Eventually he stood again and held up a small All Might key chain in his open palm. His fingers closed around it tightly. He reopened his hand to reveal only dust. "I don't like to tell people my name. But since I have to give you something, if I want you to consider my offer. I'm Shigaraki. I'm going home. I'll tell you more another time."
That's a quirk and a name. I'm not going to like that guy much. /A sad name, 'mourning of death'?
