"Maybe you should sit down." Nic encouraged softly. "Danny needs you to be strong, but he also needs you to take care of yourself and your baby." She urged, trying to guide her best friend to the chairs.

Victoria Grey was a third year resident at Chastain Park Memorial Hospital. Renowned for her attitude and aggression to detail, Victoria Grey was an asset to the hospital and her friends. Her smile radiated happiness and hope among her patients and colleagues, but no one more than her husband, Daniel Grey. She had married Daniel Grey two years prior, after dating for 6 years. They had so many hopes and dreams for their future, they were looking for a new home to start their family, which was starting with in 7 months with the baby Victoria had been carrying at the time of Danny's accident.

The accident had been horrific. The act of God which caused his car to swerve and roll. He had been fine, Victoria thought. He walked into the ER after the accident and hugged his wife so tight that she thought he was going to crush her. His attention had been so focused on the young woman whom he had tried to avoid, he denied treatment until she was stable. If only I forced him to go to CT. Her breathing hitched as she remembered Danny collapsing.

FLASHBACK

"Babe, come on it's been a rough day." Victoria sighed, as she watched her husband rub his eyes. "Let's get you checked out and I'll see if I can get off? I'm sure they won't mind."

She tried to get up to fetch Conrad who had been stood at the nurses desk talking to Nic. But her attempts had been feeble. Dan reached up and gently lowered her down again.

"I feel fine Vic." Danny assured, he had really just wanted to get home. He knew his wife was tired, he knew that he caused her more stress than was necessary. He really didn't want to add to it anymore.

"Please Dan." She pleaded quietly. Her eyes hopeful as she looked towards him.

Her husband nodded, "fine, but I'm not going to stay in." He agreed.

The pair stood up, but before Victoria could march off and grab her best friend. Dan held her back once more. Cupping his hands across her cheeks softly, he grinned. "I love you Victoria Grey."

Vicky smiled, "hey! Where's my mattcho man?" She grinned, sensing his sincerity, she continued. "But I love you too. Now, quick, let's see Conrad and if we leave here before 8 we'll manage to wrangle a pizza from L'Italia on our way home." Calling back over her shoulder, she said. "Hey Conrad, can you take a look at-"

It was at that exact moment Victoria's smile dropped as she watched her husband's nose begin to bleed. "Dan?"

Whilst he willed himself to reply, his head began to pound, he tried to reach for anything other Victoria but he failed and his body fell limp onto his pregnant wife.

Victoria worked in shock as she tried to hoist him up or attempt to lower her husband to the floor. "Danny." She cried, her breathing hitching as she collapsed under his weight.

"Hey. Hey." Conrad swung around the desk as he watched the scene before him. He tried to reach the pair as fast as he could but only managed to get there before Danny could hurt his pregnant wife. "Can we have some help here!" Conrad screamed. "Call code!"

End of Flashback

Victoria was pulled away from her thoughts when she saw her best friend Conrad emerge from behind the double doors of the surgical floor.

She breathed in relief at the sound bur when she locked eyes on her best friend, all she could see was sadness and pity. Victoria felt her legs crumble beneath her. Her heart aching as she strangled a scream.

In those few minutes, Victoria Grey's life changed forever. She was no longer the care free woman she once was, her smile no longer radiated a room. She was lost, and she needed pulling back to reality.
