Chapter Six: The Indominus Rex

At the end of Main Street, Gray was running right for the Innovation Center with his brother and Zara right behind him. Gabriel, Adrien and Adrien's bodyguard was right behind them. Gray looked behind him and urged his brother, "Come on!"

"Dude, relax." Zach calmly said as he and Zara walked up more slowly. Gray climbed up the stairs before looking back and urging, "Come on."

"Dude, just chill." Zach said, a little annoyed with his younger sibling. Gray went on and ran through the doors that opened up for him. Zach was able to slip in with ease while Zara barely made it as the doors closed. Zach was able to catch up and walked with Gray as a woman's voice said over the PA, "Welcome to the Innovation Center, where technology meets prehistory."

Gray looked to his brother and could see that Zach was slightly impressed even though he quickly covered it up. From behind them, the doors opened up to let the Agrestes and Adrien's bodyguard through. Gray ran forward as a hologram of an Apatosaur appeared in the middle of the center. He ran up to the hologram as it made a bellow and moved about the platform. The others looked about and saw a sandbox where kids could pretend to uncover dinosaur bones. There were video screens about the place informing the children about different things about dinosaurs, the earth and other things. Gray ran over to a console and pushed a button to activate it. A holographic screen appeared about DNA. He tapped each molecule as he said, "Cytosine, guanine, adenine, and thymine. The same four things in everything that ever lived."

"Wow, you're really good at this." Adrien said when he walked up to his friend as a recording of Mr. DNA popped up. Gray smiled to this when his brother walked up to them. He didn't look to thrilled when he said, "Hey, don't be wandering off, all right? Mom's not paying me to babysit."

They watched the video recording for a moment when they heard a voice call out, "Gray, is that you?"

All three boys looked back to see a red headed woman in white coming down the stairs. Gray seemed happy when he recognized her, "Aunt Claire!"

"I guess that's the aunt you were telling me and my friends on the ferry about?" Adrien asked Zach. The older teen nodded, "Yep."

Gray ran forward as Claire kept walking down the steps. She raised her phone to finish the call, "Okay, yeah. No, I'm gonna have to go now. My nephews are here."

She hung up the phone and met Gray at the bottom of the stairs where he ran up and embraced her. Claire was touched by this as she returned the embrace and said, "Oh, my gosh, aren't you really sweet.

"Whoa, Zach." She said when he walked up to them with Zara, the Agrestes and Adrien's bodyguard right behind them. Claire tried to remember the last time she saw the boys, "Last time that I saw you, you were like…" She raised the hand with her phone at a height shorter than Gray, "This big. That must have been what, three or four years ago?"

"Uh, seven. Seven years actually." Zach clarified for her, making her eyes widen a little. He tried to make her feel better by saying, "But, you know, you were close."

Claire sighed before noticing their wristbands and was at least pleased with that, "So, I see that you already have gotten your wristbands.

"And this is for food." She added and handed Gray an envelope with the Jurassic World symbol on it. Claire then noticed a few extra guests behind her nephews and greeted, "Mr. Agreste. How nice it is to see you."

She walked up and extended her hand to shake his. He took her hand and shook it, "Likewise, Ms. Dearing."

"I haven't seen you since that fashion show in New York." Claire remembered and removed her hand. She then asked, "I suppose that Mr. Masrani has sent you a message?"

"Indeed." Gabriel nodded. Claire smiled for a moment before turning to her nephews. She looked between them and said, "Okay, Zara here is going to take great care of the two of you until I'm done working tonight, all right?"

Zara looked up from her phone when she heard her boss referring to her. This seemed to disappoint her nephews, mostly Gray when he asked, "You're not coming with us?"

Claire sighed as she could see that they were disappointed, and was looking forward to it. But she did have her reason when she said, "Oh, I… I really wish that I could, but tomorrow I can take you into the control room and let you see how some of the magic works."

Her phone beeped and she took a look at it. Knowing that she had to get going again, she looked to her nephews and said, "Okay, I will see the two of you at six."

"Oh, no, no, you have the meeting…" Zara quickly reminded her. Claire sighed in annoyance as she remembered, "Oh, right." Looking to her nephews again she said, "I will see you later this evening."

"If it would help, Ms. Dearing." Gabriel stepped forward and suggested, "Perhaps Zara would like a little help in watching the boys for a bit. Adrien's bodyguard does an excellent job in watching him. I'm sure he would be able to help watch Zach and Gray until you get back."

Adrien's bodyguard seemed to stand a little taller from the praise. Zara looked to him and she blushed as she found herself falling for him. Claire nodded and said, "That would help actually, Mr. Agreste. And they can get help from my friend Zeke."

"I'll give him a call." Zara promised with a nod. Claire nodded in agreement as well before her cell phone beeped again. She looked at it before looking to Adrien and his father, "If the two of you will follow me, we can wait for Mr. Masrani to get here."

"So, um… have fun you two." Claire said as she started to walk away. Zach and Gray both nodded, even though they were down. Adrien gave them both sympathetic looks as he could understand what they were feeling.

"And please take very good care of them, okay." Claire asked Zara and the Gorilla. Both Zara and the Gorilla nodded.

"See you guys later." Adrien said as he and Gabriel followed after Claire. While Zach looked away, Gray waved back, "See ya, Adrien."

The two Agrestes followed after Claire as she walked through a hologram of a Parasaurolophus. Claire answered her phone and said to the person on the other line, "Yeah. No, I'm here."

Zach, Gray, Zara and the Gorilla watched the two walk off. When they were gone, Zach tapped Gray on the shoulder and said, "Come on. Let's go and see the sights."

"Okay." Gray said and the four walked out of the Innovation Center. From the second story of the building Master Fu, who had gotten off the plane and was able to disguise himself when he arrived on the island with the French students, had watched the whole scene.

Behind the Innovation Center back at the Control Room, there was a large monitor that had a view of all that was going on island. Some of the people at the desks could hear some chatter over the radio about two Triceratops. Claire, Gabriel and Adrien all walked into the room and stood at the back of consoles. Claire had managed to get her a coffee while both Agrestes had politely declined the offer. Claire looked about two of them and asked, "What's the live count?"

"Twenty-two thousand, two hundred and sixteen." A woman named Vivian in a blue overshirt over a pink one and a black skirt said. Claire looked to a man and asked, "Any incidents to report?"

"Uh, yes. Six kids are in the Lost and Found. Twenty individuals with heatstroke…" The man, Lowery, wore a gray blazer shirt over an old Jurassic Park and brown pants informed. But when he turned to face her, she saw the shirt and questioned, "Where did you get that?"

"Oh, this? I got it on eBay." Lowery asked when he looked down at his torso. He sounded a little proud of it when he said, "Yeah, it's a pretty amazing shirt. I got it for a hundred and fifty dollars, but the mint condition one goes for three hundred dollars…"

"I guess it's quite a collectible." Adrien shrugged when he saw it. Claire looked back to him and said, "Well, a good deal of people think that it would be in poor taste."

"I can't help but agree with that." Gabriel said as he pushed his glasses back a little. Lowery even knew that when he said, "The shirt? Yeah, no, it did. I understand that people died during the first park."

"Even though what happened four years later was a lot worse." Adrien put in. While it did ring some truth about the San Francisco incident, Lowery then said, "And I can be honest, that first park was really legit. I have a lot of respect for it. And they didn't need these genetic hybrids. They just needed dinosaurs, real dinosaurs."

"Genetic hybrids?" Adrien asked, a little confused. Claire looked to Lowery as if telling him to shut up. He did that and Claire told him, "And please don't wear the shirt again."

"Yeah, okay then." Lowery nodded and turned back in his seat. Vivian turned to her and asked, "Did you close the deal?"

"It sure looks like it." Claire nodded, feeling happy about it. She could see it now when she said aloud, "Verizon Wireless presents the Indominus Rex."

"Uh, that is so terrible." Lowery said when he hung his head. Claire looked to him and he said, "And why not just go the distance, Claire, and let these big corporation name the new dinosaurs?

"They've got all the ball parks. Why stop there?" He added and Claire became confused about something on the monitor. She pointed with her hand and asked, "Why are the West Plains closed?"

Gabriel and Adrien both looked to see an area of the island in red. Vivian then informed, "Another Pachy was found roaming outside the zone. But she's fully sedated and ready for relocation."

"Pepsi-saurus or Tostito-don." Lowery was thinking of names that could happen. Claire didn't sound too happy when she pointed to the spot, "Security said that the invisible fences were a complete no-fail. That is the second time this month."

"Well, the Pachys cause their implants to short out when they butt heads together." Vivian explained when she brought up a live feed of what was going on. Claire then asked, "How much longer until they can get it out of there?"

"She just got five milligrams of carfentanil." Vivian said, not understanding Claire's disregard for the animal's safety. Even Lowery was with her when he said, "Yes, the Pachy's very stoned. So why don't we show a little sympathy?

"I mean, you do realize that these are actual animals?" He asked when he turned back to her. Claire didn't exactly feel the same way when she looked to Lowery's monitor and said, "Clean up your workspace. It looks chaotic."

"I like to think of it more as a living system." Lowery said when he turned back to it. He saw something a little out of order and reached to fix it when he said, "There's just enough stability to keep it all from collapsing into anarchy."

Claire moved a little and slid a trash can beside him. When Lowery moved his arm back, he accidentally knocked his cup off. Luckily, it fell into the trash can. He reached down and got it out. Turning to her two guests she said, "If you'll follow me, gentlemen. Mr. Masrani will be arriving shortly."

"Inbound chopper, Jurassic 1. ETA, five minutes." A man on the radio said. With a wave of her hand she told them to follow after her. The two Agrestes looked to each other before following after her.

Outside the compound, a helicopter was indeed heading towards the Control Room. It past the helipad a little before turning ad started to land. The doors into the compound opened and the three stepped out. They had to brace themselves from the high winds from the chopper's blades as they walked up to it. The side door of the helicopter and they all started to climb in with Claire, Adrien and finally Gabriel. While Gabriel couldn't see who was in the pilot's seat, both Claire and Adrien were very surprised when the owner of the park greeted, "Claire. Adrien. Gabriel."

"Mr. Masrani. You are flying." Claire said, very surprised. Even Adrien was surprised by this and said, "I didn't know you could fly a helicopter."

"I got my flying license." Mr. Masrani shrugged as if it were no big deal. The man next to him, a man in a pilot's uniform, thought other wise as he raised to fingers and corrected, "Two more."

"Well, two more days." Simon agreed. Gabriel said to him, "I always knew that you eccentric, Simon. But I never thought that you'd do something like this."

"Heh, it's been something I've been wanting to do." Simon said. He looked back to Claire and asked, "So, how's my park doing?"

"Great. It's doing great." Claire nodded as she buckled herself in. Then she informed, "We're up two and a half percent over last year. A bit lower than our initial projection."

"No, no. I mean how is it doing?" Simon asked again. Then he clarified the question, "Are the guests having fun? Are the animals enjoying life?"

"Well, I do know that guest satisfaction is steady in the lower nineties." Claire said as she tried to remember. She was a little confused about it when she said, "But we don't have a way to measure the animals' emotional experience, I'm afraid."

"Oh, sure you do." Simon disagreed. He told her how, "You can see it in their eyes."

"Ok. Of course." Claire said as she still didn't think of it that way. Simon looked to Adrien and Gabriel and asked, "You two know what I'm talking about, right?"

"I think we get the idea." Adrien nodded when he looked to his father. Gabriel only nodded and Simon righted himself in his seat. The three new passengers placed headsets on and got ready for take-off. He rubbed his hands together before grabbing the control stick and said, "Okay. Now show me my new dinosaur."

"I'd advise you to hold on, Adrien." Gabriel gave a friendly warning to his son. Simon only laughed a little as he pulled on the stick a little. The entire helicopter started to shake as it began to take off again. Everyone gasped from the rumbling and four out of five indeed held onto something as they rose into the air. Even those outside were a little weary as the chopper rose into the air.

"Got it. Got it. Got it." Simon said as they were able to take off without a hitch. They flew over seemingly endless forest as they moved through the mountains of the island. While Adrien, Gabriel and the flight instructor seemed to relax, Claire was still a little nervous as she clung to the door, "Oh, my!"

"You look a little tense, Claire." Simon said with a bit of a laugh. Adrien reassured her by saying, "I'm sure that Mr. Masrani's going to be a great pilot. We just have to trust him."

"Thank you, Adrien." Simon said, feeling grateful for his kind words. Claire then gestured to the stick and kindly suggested, "Maybe you should just focus on the controls."

"The key to having a happy life is to accept that you are never fully in control." Mr. Masrani bestowed the great wisdom. He laughed when he said, "I think that's something you could really learn, Gabriel."

"Amusing." Gabriel rolled his eyes, hardly finding it funny. Claire's eyes widened when she saw something, "Bird!"

It made the flight instructor tense up a little as a couple of birds flew past them. Talking mostly to Claire Simon said, "You should spend a day at the beach, Claire. Get some sun."

"Uh, right." Claire said as she thought to do that one day. But she brought out some notes to go over with Simon and said, "So… Marketing thought that we could offset some of the costs by…"

"Uh, enough about costs." Simon said, having no interest in it. He didn't take his eyes off the sky when he said, "John Hammond entrusted me with his dying wish and not once did ever mention profits or money.

"Spare no expense. He would say." Simon remembered the original father of Jurassic Park. Adrien smiled when he said, "He sounded like a good man."

"Oh, he was, Adrien. That he was." Simon nodded as he remembered his old friend. Claire thought it was nice, but knew that it was far from keeping them up and running, "I appreciate that kind of wisdom, but um, the reality of operating a theme park requires…"

"Don't forget why we built this place, Claire." Simon cut her off. Then he said, "Jurassic World exists to remind us how very small we are. And if we think on how those such as Ladybug and Cat Noir try to change the world in their own way, then we should do the same, but in our own way. And we cannot put a price on that."

"Wow." Adrien said. Then he asked, "You must really admire them, huh?"

"Of course." Simon said to the boy. He smiled when he said, "Ladybug and Cat Noir has been a great inspiration not just to Paris, but to a great deal of the world as well.

"Now please, enjoy yourselves." Simon looked back to them and said, "We are flying."

Simon placed a pair of shades over his eyes before placing both hands on the stick. The helicopter started shaking again as he rose it in the air again. They thankfully avoided a tree as they continued to fly through the mountains. As they went by, Adrien leaned to where he could see Simon and asked, "Is it possible to see anything from the old park from up here?"

"Maybe only a few things." Simon said. Then he informed, "A great majority of the original Jurassic Park has been taken back by the island."

"Huh." Adrien said as he sat back against his seat. The helicopter flew a little more when they came across a paddock in the middle of the forest. As they landed, Adrien could see complete concrete walls that were really high. The helicopter shook a little when they landed before setting down on the ground. Everyone waited a moment as Simon turned off the chopper. When it was safe to get out, the flight instructor was the first to unstrap himself and rushed out of the chopper. While Claire shakily stepped out of it, Adrien and Gabriel were able to get out just fine. Simon was the last to get out and walked around the chopper. Both Adrien and Claire looked as the flight instructor ran to some bushes and started to vomit. Looking to Claire he asked, "Uh, is he going to be okay?"

"I'm not sure." Claire shook his head. She shouted to the vomiting man, "Are you okay?"

"Oh, he's just being dramatic." Simon assured them as he viewed the paddock. From where he was standing, Gabriel gasped when he could feel a negative emotion emanating from inside. He took a deep breath to calm himself and they walked up to the paddock. They all could see a lot of people milling about as they worked on the place. Adrien looked about and said, "It's certainly big."

"Are you still building on to it?" Simon asked Claire as she caught up to her boss. Claire nodded and said, "We had originally planned to open in May, but Asset Containment had insisted that we build the walls up higher."

"Is that a good idea? I mean is she already inside?" Adrien asked. He thought about it and said, "All the noise must be a little irritating to her."

"I'm sure she gets by." Claire said as they walked up to the paddock. Turning her attention back to her boss she said, "It's a lot bigger than expected."

"I think it's a good sign." Simon said as he saw a few welders fixing up some supports. The four walked up the stairs and went into the observation deck. As she entered behind the four men Claire said, "We hit a few speed bumps with this one early on. It began to anticipate where the food would come from.

"One of the handlers nearly lost an arm. The rest threatened to quit if I couldn't guarantee their safety." Claire informed and walked up to one of the console pads. Simon glanced about the paddock and asked, "So, she's quite intelligent then?"

"For a dinosaur." Claire said as she started tapping on the console. Simon glanced to the window on her left and asked, "And that?"

They all looked to see one of the glass windows had been badly cracked. Claire looked back to the three and said, "It tried to break the glass."

"I like her spirit." Simon said as he looked back out into the habitat. Gabriel then asked, "You do plan to have that fixed, yes?"

"Of course." Claire nodded and the sound of something moving made them all look out into the habitat. They had to look really hard before they saw a shape rise up in the foliage and could hear a growl coming from the hybrid. All three of them were very surprised by this as the hybrid started to move around. When she came to a stop, Simon, Gabriel and Adrien could see the coloring of the dinosaur. Simon didn't take his eyes off of her when he said, "Oh, she's white. You never told me that she was white in color."

"An intriguing color." Gabriel complimented as he was fascinated. Adrien looked to Claire and asked, "But won't that make her stand out in a terrain like this?"

"Well, it's not like it's going to be put in a new environment." Claire said and walked a little closer. Then she asked, "Do you think it will scare the kids?"

"The kids?" Simon asked as he thought about visitors to the paddock. He then said, "It will give the parents nightmares."

"Is that good?" Claire asked as they could hear the creature growling. Simon could only say, "It's fantastic."

Hidden in the foliage, the Indominus Rex blinked as she observed the four. While she could make out the four humans, there was something about the short one that was a little off to her.

"Can she see us?" Gabriel asked as they stood still. Claire then informed them, "They say it can sense thermal radiation like snakes."

"I thought that there two of them." Simon said, a little confused why there was only one. They didn't take their eyes off even when Claire said, "There was a sibling in case this one didn't survive infancy."

"And where is the sibling?" Gabriel asked and looked around the paddock. Claire didn't sound too upset when she said, "She ate it."

Both Adrien and Simon looked to her as she looked to them with a sigh. Adrien took a step closer to the glass and they watched as the Indominus Rex started moving through the foliage. They were greatly surprised as the Indominus walked right up to the glass. She seemed to be staring intently at Adrien and Gabriel moved to get his son away. It made the Indominus Rex growl at him and he flinched from it. It stared at the boy for a little longer and even Plagg from his hiding spot was watching everything go down. The Indominus Rex stared at him before turning to walk away.

"So, other than what just happened." Simon said when he turned to Clair. He was mostly asking for those like Adrien's sake, "The paddock is quite safe, then?"

"We have the best structural engineers in the world." She assured with a nod as she walked around him. Both Simon and Gabriel glanced to each other as the former then reminded, "Yeah, so did Hammond."

"But to be fair, it was mostly due to the likes of hiring the wrong person." Gabriel said when Claire looked to them. Then he added, "I do believe that it was mostly due to sabotage from someone who had been bribed from a rival company."

"That's what had been said about it." Simon said as Adrien stepped away from the three. Making sure that he had some room, he opened up his shirt and quietly asked the Kwami in his shirt, "Ever seen a dinosaur like that, Plagg?"

"Mm-mm." Plagg shook his head. Then he said, "But I don't like how she was looking at you either."

"It was a little weird." Adrien agreed. But when he heard Simon starting to walk about he warned, "Better stay hidden, Plagg."

He let go of his shirt as Plagg remained hidden and Adrien turned back to them. He saw that none of them had noticed him talking to Plagg. Simon seemed to be in deep thought before saying, "There's an American Navy man here on the island. Part of a research program that one of my companies is running."

Claire slowly lowered her hand from the console as she began to get an idea of who Simon was talking about. She sighed when Mr. Masrani said, "His name is Owen Grady."

"I know who he is." Claire nodded to the name. Adrien's eyes widened when he said, "I think I met him today."

All three adults looked to him and Adrien nodded, "Yeah, he and a friend of his helped me and my friend Marinette get out of a broken Gyrosphere."

"He does speak the truth." Gabriel verified when he looked to the two. Adrien then said, "The last I saw of him, he was with my friends on Main Street.

"I have no idea where they are now." Adrien shook his head. Claire scoffed and said, "Well, he had better be doing that important research."

"And when he's finished, I want you to bring him here so he can inspect the paddock." Simon instructed her. Claire sighed but nodded that she would get it done. Gabriel then asked, "You want him to make sure that there are no errors so the Indominus can escape."

"Exactly." Simon said, with Indominus keeping an eye on them. He looked back out to the Indominus and he said, "Maybe he might see something that we cannot."

"Shall we head back to the park then?" Claire asked and all three men nodded. They left the building with Gabriel the last one. He took one last look at the Indominus Rex and could feel strong negative emotions coming from her. The thought of akumatizing a dinosaur seemed to intrigue Gabriel, but he quickly remembered that he was on vacation. Taking a deep breath he walked out of the door and closed it behind him.

Author's Note: And I end the chapter here. The next chapter might be a little shorter, but it's still going to have a good deal of action in it. Plus, I might have a certain jerk be put in his place as well. I look forward to reading your reviews. Be sure to leave a comment either about if I've done something wrong or if you want something specifically to happen. See you next time.
