A/N: I can hardly believe how fast I'm able to get this done. We're seven chapters in and this story's had like over seven hundred views so far.

Chapter Seven: Raptor Training
Across the island, a forest seemed eerily quiet with only a few birds chirping, monkeys chattering and the sounds of bugs as well. Suddenly, the squealing of a scared pig broke the silence as it ran through the forest. Behind the pig, four shapes were quickly moving through the brush after it. The pig ran right into a clearing surrounded by metal walls and past a few trees. Behind it, four large reptilian shapes came out of the jungle area and stopped when a voice shouted, "Hold!"
The pig managed to escape from its pursuers by ducking into a whole in the wall and a hatch closing it up. The pursuer tapped a large toe claw and was revealed to be a Velociraptor. The Velociraptor was blue-gray skinned with a darker shade of blue on both sides of her head. Coming up next to her were three more Velociraptors, her sisters. Another was a teal color but had had no stripes on her back or tail and had a bit larger and stockier build to her. A third was brown with dark blue stripes over her body and a noticeable scar on the left side of her muzzle. The final one was green with black vertical strips running down her back.
"Hey!" The voice shouted and it made all four Velociraptors look up. Standing on a cross walk above them was Owen. He held one hand up while holding a clicker in the other and nodded, "Okay.
"All eyes on me." Owen instructed. He saw that he had everyone's attention but the Raptor in the middle and said, "Blue?
"Blue!" He called out and rapidly clicked the clicker. It seemed to get her attention when she looked up and Owen pointed to her and warned, "Watch it."
Another Velociraptor, the green one, started snarling and Owen was quick to stop it, "Hey, Charlie! Don't give me none of that!
"Delta!" He shouted when to the other blue scaled one that was seeming to get distracted. Pointing to her he said, "Lock it up!"
He calmly lowered his hand and in turn it seemed to make the four in the pen calm as well. Owen was liking what he was seeing, "Good. Atta girls!"
The Raptors snorted a bit and people on the sidelines seemed to be impressed.
"And we're moving!" Owen said as he started moving sideways along the catwalk. The Velociraptors in turn started following his movements and Blue snapped at Charlie. Charlie turned to the one at the back for a moment before moving back in place when Owen came at a stop at a bucket hanging on the railing. He once again instructed, "Hold!"
All four seemed to chirp at this and stood up straight.
"Hey, that's good. That is really good." Owen nodded, liking how it was going. He gave a few clicks of the clicker to keep them on task while reaching into the bucket with his free hand. Blue gave a light growl as Owen praised, "Very good!
"See, Charlie, this is what you get!" Owen complimented as he brought out a piece of meat and threw it to her. The Velociraptor caught it with a crunch and Owen moved to the next Raptor. Reaching into the bucket again he threw another piece of meat, "Echo, there you go!
"Delta!" Owen shouted when he did it again. Reaching into the bucket one final time, he brought out a rodent and said, "Blue?"
She looked up to him and seemed a little excited for it. Owen nodded and shook it when he said, "This one's for you."
He threw it to her and she caught it before gulping it down. When she finished they stood at attention again when he instructed, "Hold!
"Eyes up!" And they all stood a little taller. Owen waited a moment before throwing his arm down, "Go."
All four Velociraptors growled before zooming off into the enclosure. They ran underneath Owen's catwalk as he gave a relieved sigh while laughs rang out around him. Barry, Marinette, Alya, Nino, Ivan, Mylene, Rose, Juleka, Alix, Max and Kim all walked up to him. Owen and Barry high fived and the latter seemed impressed, "You finally did it, man."
"And I got the whole thing on video." Alya excitedly said when she showed him her phone. She tapped it a few times and said, "This will make a great addition to the blog."
"Well, I'm glad to hear that." Owen nodded as he looked back down into the paddock at the four Raptors. Marinette looked too and asked, "So, these are different from the ones of the first park and those of Isla Sorna?"
"Very different." Barry nodded with a grin. Kim then asked, "Makes want to know how well at swimming they'd be?"
"I think that's a test for another day, buddy." Owen chuckled as he wiped his hands. They still had smiles when they heard someone say, "Owen."
They looked to see a chubby man in an InGen uniform walking along the rim of the paddock. He laughed as he patted a few guys on the back. But the other men didn't seem so enthusiastic about him. The French Students were all a little confused when Nino asked, "Uh, who's that?"
"Vic Hoskins." Barry sighed while Owen sighed. Marinette then asked, "Something tells me that if he's here that means that there's trouble."
"You'd be right, Marinette." Owen agreed as the man walked onto the catwalk. Pointing to Owen and Barry Vic said, "I was starting to think that I had hired the wrong guys. But, dang, you sure had them eating out of your palm."
"More like from the air." Kim cracked and it caused a few chuckles from the other French Students. Even Barry and Owen chuckled from that one. Vic seemed to ignore that and continued what he was saying, "I liked what I was seeing."
"You came on a good day." Owen agreed on that. Then he shook Vic's hand and added, "It's not usually a happy ending."
"Is that why you're not sending in your reports?" Vic asked, a little ticked off about that. Barry then clarified their reasons, "We've been pretty busy."
"Not too busy to cash your pay checks I see." Vic playfully said as he made a motion as if to punch. Wanting to get this over with, Owen asked, "What do you need, buddy?"
"A field test." Vic said, not beating around the bush. Owen and Barry both sighed from this and Owen turned to walk away. Vic followed after him and Alya asked Barry, "I'm guessing he's been hoping for something like this hasn't he?"
"You have no idea." Barry shook his head. Ivan then asked, "What kind of field test exactly?"
"He's wanting to use the Raptors as weapons." Barry explained, earning a collective gasp from the students. Rose shook her head, "That's an awful thought."
Juleka muttered her agreement, even though it confused Barry a little. Alix spoke up for her, "She was agreeing with what Rose said."
"Ah." Barry nodded as he then understood. Max then questioned, "Doesn't Mr. Hoskins remember the incident from the last park when the Velociraptors were set loose?"
"What about the ones from Isla Sorna?" Kim asked his best friend. Max sighed and then explained, "Those Velociraptors had been running loose for four years. Plus, the InGen team and Mr. Hammond's team were the ones to invade their territory. As did Dr. Grant and those with him."
"Oh, right." Kim nodded as he remembered. They looked back to Owen and Hoskins as the latter said, "Look, I've just seen that they can respond to commands. We need to take the research and get it on its feet."
"These are wild animals, Hoskins." Owen reminded as they came at the intersection and turned. He shook his head when he promised, "You don't want them out in the field."
"I just saw a bond. A real bond." Vic argued for his reasons. He moved in front of Owen when he said, "Between man and beast."
"You're in my way, man." Owen said, wanting the conversation to end. Hoskins tried to reason with him by saying, "Come on, Owen. You and I, we're the same. We're dogs of war. We both know that the military needs to reduce casualties.
"Some people think that robots are the future." He didn't think it when said it. Alya happened to catch up to them and sassily said, "Right. Like they're going to listen to Owen when he's ground level with them and in a new terrain."
"She's got a point there, man." Owen agreed with her. Alya turned to look down in the paddock and said, "I mean, I thought the four of them were really spectacular, but even I wouldn't want to take any chances."
"They're both right, Mr. Hoskins." Marinette said when she joined her friend. She made her own point, "You have no idea how they'll act outside of the paddock."
"Come on ya'll, nature gave us the most effective killing machines seventy-five million years ago." Hoskins said as he followed after them when they moved around him. He seemed excited when he said, "And now we know that they can take orders."
"Yeah, but it seems like it still needs some fine tuning." Nino said when he and the others walked up with Barry. Getting a little irritated with the French Students, Hoskins questioned, "Okay, why are they here again?"
"We happened to come across them on Main Street. We told them they could come and watch." Barry said with a shrug. Vic then asked, "And how did they get here exactly?"
"We got one of the golf carts." Kim said before pointing down at the ground. Then pointing to the genius of the group he said, "Max was able to get it to go faster."
"Oh, just a little tinkering here and there." Max waved off, trying to stay humble. Vic shook his head and he said, "Well, back to the question at hand. Just think about it."
"We finally make some progress and that's the first thing that he says?" Barry asked Owen who could only shake his head. Even Barry was against it, "Make a weapon?"
"Geez." Hoskins scoffed as he turned away for a moment. Marinette then said, "Look, Mr. Hoskins-"
"Oh, don't need to be so formal with me, little lady." Vic waved it off. He said with a smile, "You can call me Vic."
"Ok, Vic." Marinette said, even though it didn't feel right to her. Then she said, "I get why you want to have the Raptors for such purposes, but it wouldn't be right."
"That is a nice sentiment." Vic nodded. But he was hardly swayed when he said, "But let's be real here and think like grown-ups.
"Drones can't search through tunnels and in caves." He argued against machines. Then he put in, "And they're hackable."
"Plus, we don't want them to rise up and enslave us." Alix said with a bit of humor, making them all but Hoskins laugh. He looked back to her and said, "Keep joking like that, and it'll end up happening.
"But seriously, the minute a real war breaks out, all that fancy tech is gonna go dark." He tried to make a point. Owen brought up a point of his own, "Well, to be fair, that tech's not going to eat them if they forget to feed it."
"As it would have no need to." Max put in. They stopped where they could all stand and see all four Raptors interacting. Hoskins gestured to them and said, "Just look at the creatures. They've got millions of years of instinct in their cells, instinct that we can program. Their loyalty cannot be bought."
"Until someone with juicer piece of meat comes along." Ivan argued. Even Mylene agreed, "Or someone with more authority."
"Yeah, right." Hoskins scoffed, not thinking it were possible. He seemed confident when he said, "These guys are gonna run straight into the enemy's teeth and eat them, belt, buckle and all."
"Ew." Rose cringed at the thought. Juleka placed a comforting hand on her best friend's shoulder. Barry looked to Vic and asked, "What if they decide that they wanna be the ones in control?"
"Well, then we just have to remind them who is in charge. We terminate the rogues." Vic said, thinking of potential traitors. This earned a good number of questioning looks from the French Students. Barry scoffed when he said, "And promote only loyal bloodlines."
Barry shook his head and started laughing and it confused Hoskins. Barry walked around Hoskins and the InGen head of security asks, "What?" He turned to Owen when he whistled, "What's so funny?"
"I don't know." Owen shrugged as the boys of the French Students walked off to get a better view of the Raptors when they moved off. Only Alya and Marinette stayed when Owen said, "You come here and don' learn anything about these animals except for what you want to know.
"You made them and now you think that you own them." He said when they all looked into the paddock. Hoskins looked to Owen and nodded, "We do own them.
"Extinct animals have no rights." His words seemed to rub Owen, the girls and Tikki who was hiding in Marinette's purse the wrong way.
"They're not soldiers." Marinette shook her head. Pointing an accusing finger at him she said, "And you can't think of them that way."
"They're not extinct anymore, Hoskins." Owen pointed out. Alya came in by saying, "And I remember something about the last guy who thought of that who worked for InGen and he ended up getting eaten."
"Things are a lot different since Hammond and Ludlow's time." Hoskins disagreed. Gesturing to the Raptors he said, "And we're sitting on a goldmine. And Masrani is using it to stock a petting zoo."
"You do know that no one is allowed in with the carnivores, right?" Rose asked while another handler handed Owen the bucket. Keeping on track Owen said, "He just wants to teach people some humility. He doesn't make weapons. Kind of like how Ladybug and Cat Noir remember that they're ordinary people when they want to be."
"You think that the eighth richest man in the world is only into oil, telecom and family fun parks?" Hoskins chuckled the question and they all walked down a flight of stairs. Then he shrugged when he added, "As for Ladybug and Cat Noir, they're just a couple of kids who don't know what they have. They could be gods if they wanted to."
"Hey, Ladybug and Cat Noir aren't like that at all." Alya defended as she moved in front of Hoskins. She stood tall when she said, "I've met, actually, we've all both of them personally and they choose to defend Paris and the world from big threats like Hawkmoth to helping ordinary people. So don't go questioning their integrity."
"Okay, geez." Hoskins said while both Owen and Marinette and the other girls were impressed. Even Tikki was happy to know about someone like Alya. Hoskins then said, "As for Masrani, he's so diversified, he doesn't even know what he owns."
"How long as InGen been practicing this pitch?" Owen asked as they all started down the stairs again. Vic then said, "Since the day that we hired you out of the Navy. You knew the end game."
"I guess this just shows how low InGen has sunk." Alix commented to Marinette, and it made Hoskins glance back. Vic then said, "These animals can replace thousands of boots on the ground. How many lives would that save?"
"Sure, trade the lives of Velociraptors that did nothing to you in exchange for human lives." Juleka said, loud enough for all to hear her. Her friends looked to her with impressed looks before looking to Owen and Hoskins again. Mylene nodded and said, "Juleka's right. It's not in the interest of both parties. Sure it may be beneficial for the human's live, not that there's anything wrong with that, but it'll be completely unfair to them.
"They're not totally invincible after all." She pointed out when they looked through a smaller cage to the Raptors. Owen then walked into a cage and closed the door behind him. He pushed a button to lock it to prevent Hoskins from getting in and it buzzed for a moment. Vic shrugged and said, "War is a part of nature."
"Only when people like you want to cause it." Alix said and crossed her arms. Vic shook his head and said, "No, I don't. I want to help to end the wars.
"And war is a struggle for all to learn to thrive. It breeds greatness." He added. Owen, Marinette, Alya, Rose, Juleka and Alix all looked to him with questioning looks. Vic looked about the paddock and said, "Look around, you guys. Every living thing in this jungle is trying to murder the other.
"Mother Nature's way of testing her creations." Vic said while others disagreed. Alya made her voice heard by saying, "No, that's humanity's way of being stupid."
"It helps to refine the pecking order." Hoskins argued with her. Another voice came in, "Well, I think that it is an idea worth looking into."
Everyone turned to see Lila walking up to them with a smile on her face. Vic nodded and said, "See, she gets it."
"She wasn't even part of the conversation when we started." Marinette argued when she gestured to Lila. Lila, who had narrowed eyes at first, smiled and waved it off and said, "Oh, I practically heard the entire conversation from where I was standing."
"By the way, how come you didn't want to watch with everyone else?" Owen asked as he seemed to work in the pen. Lila put on a scared face and said, "Oh, it's nothing against them, Mr. Grady. It's mostly me. I'm still a little nervous after hearing what happened to the people who had encountered Velociraptors."
"But you don't have to be afraid, Lila." Mylene said. Looking into the pens she said, "We're perfectly safe out here while they're perfectly safe in there."
"Not if Ludlow Jr. has anything to say about it." Alix commented when she looked to Hoskins. Vic looked to her and said, "I've already told you before-"
"I'm sure that Vic here is only thinking of trying to stop all the bad people." Lila quickly interjected. She looked to him and asked, "Am I right."
"Uh, yeah. Right." Vic nodded, at least someone was happy to see that someone was siding with him. Turning to Owen he said, "Look, we all know that war is a struggle. And struggle breeds greatness."
"Hardly." Alya commented with a roll of her eyes. Owen walked back over as Vic said, "And without that, we'll just end up in places like this, charging seven bucks a soda."
"Do you hear yourself when you talk?" Owen asked, wondering about Hoskins' sanity. Vic laughed a little before saying, "This is gonna happen. With or without you boys."
"Actually…" Marinette said as she got Hoskins to back up, "If I remember correctly, Simon Masrani owns InGen after buying it from Hammond before his death. So I think it's safe to say that he's got the final word on the Raptors."
"She's got a point." Owen nodded with a smirk. Vic shook his head, "Progress will always win."
"Then maybe progress should lose for once." Everyone but Lila shot back. The sound of a pig squealing made everyone look about. One of the handlers up top shouted, "Pig loose!
"Pig loose!" Another guy shouted as they ran to catch it. A handler with a beanie ran forward and a pole ran onto the catwalk. He lowered it and moved it to catch the pig. Nino ran forward and said, "Here, I'll give you a hand."
"Thanks." The handler said as the pig ran forward. They were able to get the rope around the pig but one of the Raptors ran forward and grabbed a hold of it. But it ended up pulling both boys over the railing. They screamed as they fell into the paddock.
"Nino!" All his friends and girlfriend cried out as the all the Velociraptors turned to them with a snarl. Owen ran forward but slowed down to press the button on a cage door. Nino and the handler quickly backed up as the growling Raptors came closer. The door started to lift as Barry ran forward, "Owen, no!"
"What do you mean, no?" Alya angrily questioned, wishing that she could go in there herself. Marinette looked about for a place to transform, but a look from Tikki told her not to. When the door had raised itself enough, Owen slipped underneath before running to get to the boys. A couple of handlers up top ran forward and aimed their weapons at the Raptors. Owen quickly shouted to them, "No, no. Hold your fire!"
Everyone but Nino and the handler on the ground looked to him with worried or questioning looks. Owen stopped in between the two humans and the four Raptors. He held up his hands and it seemed to make Blue, Echo, Delta and Charlie wary of him. Owen repeated, "Hold your fire. None of you fire."
Barry was able to get into the smaller pen and hit the button to keep the gate from opening all the way. Alya was able to slip in through the door after him. Worried about his girls Owen said, "Put twelve amps into these animals, and they're never gonna trust me ever again."
Nino and the handler were able to crawl through the opening and both Alya and Barry made a grab for them. They pulled the two to their feet and pulled them back. When they were on their feet again, everyone watched what was happening inside the paddock. Owen said, "Blue, stand down.
"Stand down." He calmly repeated after lowering his left arm. Her response to this was a snap of her teeth and everyone jumped from it. A little annoyed Owen snapped, "Hey, hey. What did I just say?
"Delta, I see you there. Back up!" Owen warned as they got closer. She snarled at him in response. When things seemed to calm down a little, Owen took a small step back, raised his arms and said, "Okay. Good. Good.
"Charlie? Stay right there." Owen said when the Raptor got too close. From behind, everyone was watching with worry, nervousness or intrigue. Owen nodded, "Good.
"Close the gate, please." Owen instructed to Barry. Thinking his friend was nuts, Barry questioned, "Are you crazy?"
"Just trust me." Owen said, not taking his eyes off the Raptors. Both Nino and the handler said, "Trust him/Close the gate!"
Barry whispered something in French before moving to the press the button. When it was pushed, a buzzing noise went off and the gate started to lower. Owen waited a moment and when all four Velociraptors looked, he quickly made his move. He turned and dived for the gate before rolling through as the Raptors came after him. Owen made it through as the gate closed and the four Raptors banged against the bars. Just about everyone cringed from it and the four shook their heads. Barry moved to help Owen up and he reassured, "I'm okay."
"Oh, thank goodness." Marinette said as some of the others took a deep breath. Max, Kim and Ivan came running down the stairs to check on their friend. Both Nino and the handler took a deep breath while the Velociraptors walked off. But when the four reached the bottom of the stairs, they all heard Barry say something in French and Owen laughed a little. All the French Students gasped from this and it made a lot of eyes look their way. The handler asked, "Uh, what exactly did he say?"
"Um, you don't want to know." Nino shook his head while having a nervous smile on his face. Barry patted Owen on the arm before walking out of the cage. Owen looked to the two and asked, "You guys okay?"
"Yeah, we're fine." Nino nodded with a grateful look. Owen then asked the handler, "You're the new guy, right?"
"Yeah, my name's Leon." He nodded when he introduced himself. Owen then jokingly asked, "Did you ever wonder why there was a job opening?"
That caused everyone's grins to fall to the question. Owen laughed a little before warning, "And hey. Don't ever turn your backs to the cage."
They didn't really understand his meaning until the snarl of Raptor made them look. One of the Velociraptors was looking at them through the bars. Alya then suggested, "Maybe it's time we got out now?"
"Second it." Nino agreed. Leon nodded, "Third it."
Owen laughed a little as he walked off. But he stopped when he saw a smiling Vic Hoskins standing at the bars. The head of InGen security gave a nod before walking off. Marinette and their friends watched as he walked off.
Owen walked out of the cage with Alya, Nino and Leon in tow behind him. Most of the group hadn't taken their eyes off of Hoskins when Marinette said to him, "Don't worry, Owen. I highly doubt that Masrani will do something like this."
"And if you need help with a case, then we'll help." Alya agreed. Owen nodded his appreciation, "Thanks, kids. I'll have to remember that.
"I can give you back a lift to the park on the way to my bungalow." Owen offered. While most nodded to this, Kim asked, "Whoa, you live on the island?"
"Some park officials do. Me included." Owen nodded with a grin. While he and most of the French Students followed after him, Alix looked back and asked, "Are you coming, Lila?"
"Uh, I'm going to hang around here for a bit." Lila said with a smile. Waving to them she said, "I'll catch up with you guys at the park later."
"Okay." Alya shrugged while they walked off. Owen happened to notice Marinette's narrowed eyes at the brown-haired girl. He fell behind as the others walked to the golf cart. She hadn't taken her eyes off of Lila when Owen asked, "Everything okay, Marinette?"
"Huh?" Marinette said when she was brought back to attention. Looking to the other French Students for a moment she lowered her voice when she said, "Can I tell you something, Owen?"
"Sure. You seem like you want to get something off your chest." Owen said and they kept walking. Marinette then told him, "The others would ever hardly believe me when I say this, but Lila is trouble."
"What do you mean?" Owen said when he glanced back to the girl in question. He did happen to notice that she was walking in the same direction as Vic. Marinette then said, "She's a huge liar. She'll lie with every breath, just to get whatever it is she wants.
"She's lied to Adrien, the entire school and who knows how many others." Marinette added. She couldn't shake a certain feeling, "And the way that she was agreeing with Hoskins over the dangers of having the Raptors out.
"And I do know how much that you care for them. I wouldn't be saying this if there wasn't a sign of danger." Marinette said while looking down to her purse. Tikki gave a supportive look. She was surprised when she said, "I may not fully see it, but I think you might be right, Marinette."
"Really?" She asked when she turned her head to him. Owen nodded and said, "I don't know how, but I could feel that just about every time that she'd say something, it felt like it was untrue."
"That's how it is for me. Even Adrien knows." Marinette said, frustrated on how she wasn't called out. Owen then reminded, "Well, unless you have absolute proof for your friends and all that, I wouldn't worry. She may end up lying her way into a hole that she can't get out of."
"Maybe." Marinette said and hung her head. Owen then asked, "So, what lies has she made so far?"
"Well, there are a few that I know of." Marinette said, knowing to leave out the ones she knew as Ladybug. She told him as they kept walking.

Author's Note: Yes, Owen knows ahead of time about Lila. And yes, though I don't want to, Lila does have a part in this story. And no it's not her getting eaten, no matter how good it would make some of you feel. But it comes up in the next chapter. I look forward to reading your reviews.
