Chapter Thirteen: Real World Problems

Back at the Control Room, while most of the video feed had gone dark from the battle, the rest of the camera's started cutting off as the team retreated. A good number of people had been horrified by what they had seen at the end of the fight. But Claire shook her head as she was a little confused, "I don't understand what's going on."

"Ladybug's probably in a tight spot because she's about to transform back." Cat Noir deduced. He looked to Claire and said, "The guards must be giving her some privacy from us and themselves as she recharges.

"But that's a matter that can wait." Cat Noir said, becoming very serious again. Owen agreed when he turned to them, "He's right. We need to evacuate the island."

Claire new that it was the most logical thing to do. But another side of her still thought that they could handle it. Thinking of her career at the moment she said, "We'd never be able to reopen."

"That's what you're worried about?!" Cat Noir shouted in anger and stepped up to the park manager. Pointing a finger at her he said, "You're the one who put ACU and Ladybug out there. The mission is your responsibility and it turned out to be a big flop.

"Ladybug would want the island evacuated to avoid any more people getting hurt or akumatized." Cat Noir huffed as he looked angry. Mr. Masrani then asked, "Speaking of akumatized people, how exactly would Hawk Moth been able to do that if he were in Paris?"

"Obviously he's not in Paris for the time being. And this just adds to the threat level." Owen said. He started pacing around and said, "There is now a supervillain with the power to make more villains. And on top of that, you made a genetic hybrid that was able to escape from its isolated captivity.

"And while we all know that Hawk Moth has an agenda, the Indominus is seeing all of this for the first time and she doesn't even know what she is." Owen pointed out. It was ominous, but true when he said, "While Hawk Moth's victims can be saved, the Indominus will kill everything that moves."

"Do you think that the hybrid is contemplating its own existence?" Mr. Masrani asked the two of them. Owen did think it when he said, "She is starting to learn where she fits into the food chain, and I don't think any of us wants her to figure it out."

"And she does see akumatized villains as a threat." Cat Noir pointed out. Owen looked to him and Cat Noir shrugged, "Just a bit of hindsight."

"We'll need to divide the forces." Owen advised when he looked to Masrani. Masrani nodded and Owen then said, "You'll need some ACU members search the more dark places of the island to look for Hawk Moth."

"If we can at least chase him out and off the island…" Cat Noir nodded in agreement. He thought it was a decent idea, "That way, we may only have one problem to deal with."

"As for that one problem," Owen continued before suggesting, "ACU can use live ammunition in an emergency situation. You have an M134 in your armory."

"Wow, that's a lot of fire power." Cat Noir and Lowery said at the same time. They looked to each other before giving each other a fist bump. Owen just shook his head before saying, "You need to put that thing on a chopper and go out to smoke this thing!"

"We have families here." Claire argued, not wanting to frighten people. She shook her head, "I'm not just gonna go and turn this place into some kind of a war zone."

"A little late for that." Cat Noir countered and pointed to the monitor that still displayed the red heart rate monitors. Owen agreed with him by saying, "You already have. And the situation is starting to escalate with Hawk Moth's involvement."

"Mr. Grady, Cat Noir, if the two of you are not gonna help with this, then there's no reason for you to be in here." Claire said, making the decision final. In a fit of anger, Owen swatted Lowery's dinosaur collection off of his console. This just made Lowery sigh as they clattered to the floor and he gave a why sort of look. Cat Noir then questioned, "Seriously? We've been trying to help but you're ignoring our advice."

"Let's just go." Owen said and grabbed the Parisian heroes arm. He pulled Cat Noir away before stopping next to Simon. Mr. Masrani looked to them and Owen then suggested to the owner of Jurassic World, "I would have a word with your people down in the labs."

"Cause that thing out there." Cat Noir took over when he pointed to the monitor. He shook his head as Owen said, "That's no dinosaur."

The two walked to the elevator and Cat Noir pushed the button. It opened up and the two stepped inside. But as the doors closed Cat Noir complained, "Oh, now it's on time."

While he thought it a little funny, Owen didn't laugh as they had more important matters on their hands. When the doors closed, Claire turned her head to look at the monitor to look between the live feed of the park and the count of people. Deciding to at least make a really good decision she said, "Okay. I'm going to close everything north of the resort.

"This is a Phase One real world. Brig everyone back in." Claire ordered while Simon slipped away to talk with his chief geneticist. Vivian raised her hand to her headset and relayed the orders, "This a Phase One, real world. I repeat, this is a Phase One, real world. Bring everyone back in."

"How much further until the surviving ACU troopers and Ladybug get back." Claire asked Lowery. Lowery looked to his monitor before saying, "ETA, ten minutes or so."

"Okay." Claire nodded with a sigh. She just hoped that they could prevent any more disasters.

On Main Street, Zara, Adrien's Bodyguard, Ivan, Mylene, Rose and Juleka were walking about looking for Zach and Gray. The Gorilla seemed to be growing more and more frustrated when he lifted a trashcan. It seemed to frustrate Zara just as much when she questioned, "Why are you picking up random things when we all know it's not helping?!"

"Rrr!" The Gorilla responded and looked to her with a questioning glare. It seemed to make Zara calm down and she said, "Yes, I know that you're trying to help and I'm sorry for being so hard on you."

"Wait, you were able to understand him?" Mylene asked as the four joined them. Zara then said, "I know he doesn't speak much, but it's pretty understandable when you listen."

"Hey, guys? What's up?" A voice from the side asked. They all looked to see Max, Kim and Alix walking up to them. Zara was confused by Kim's attire and asked, "Why is he only in swimming trunks?"

"He was mostly going to hit the pool." Max explained as he pushed his glasses back into place. He thought it was really stupid when he said, "But then being the athlete he is, he wanted to try swimming in the lagoon."

"But isn't that where the Mosasaur is?" Rose asked, thinking that it would have been dangerous. Alix laughed and said, "Luckily, the guards saved his life by pulling him away and giving him a long lecture."

"But what's going on exactly?" Max asked. Ivan then said, "Zara here's looking for the brother's that we met earlier."

"Maybe they're on one of the rides." Alix suggested with a shrug. Then she pointed out, "Jurassic World's got a ton of them."

"Hopefully nothing bad has happened." Juleka muttered and it seemed to shock the girls of the group. While a good deal of the group was confused by this, Rose held Juleka's hand and shook her head, "I doubt anything like that has happened. Alix is right, they're probably on a ride."

"Maybe Alya, Nino, Marinette or Adrien knows where they are?" Kim suggested. But before they could do anything, the PA system activated and a woman's voice said, "Attention, everyone. Due to some technical difficulties, all rides north of the resort are now closed.

"Please, enjoy commodities from the resort and surrounding attractions. Thank you." The message then repeated in several different languages. Zara breathed a sigh of relief and she said, "Hopefully, the boys will come back on their own."

"Yeah, maybe." Kim agreed. A thought just came to him and he asked, "By the way, any of you seen the video that showed that Ladybug was on the island?"

"Wait, Ladybug's on Isla Nublar?" Rose asked as Ivan pulled out his phone to see what Kim was talking about. Rose, Mylene, Juleka, Alix, Max, Zara and the Gorilla all gathered around to see the video.

Ladybug had managed to get back to the Control Room in one peace. She was walking through the halls and smiled to the tourists who saw her. She didn't have to go far when she saw Mr. Masrani walking up. They stopped before each other and Mr. Masrani said, "Ladybug, I do apologize for-"

"I'm the one who should be apologizing, Mr. Masrani." Ladybug said and Masrani guided her to another room. He closed the door to give them a private conversation. Ladybug had been greatly traumatized by what she had witnessed and said, "I should have done a better job of protecting the ACU team, before and after the akuma."

"Stop." Masrani said when he raised his hand. Then he turned away and said, "It's more of my fault really." He shook his head, "I didn't know what I was sending you, Hamada and the others into. I had no idea that she could camouflage.

"And the akuma." Simon shook his head, still unable to wrap his head around it. He turned to her and said, "I will be doing more to help with both situations.

"I'm not having ACU hunt the Indominus again at the moment." Simon shook his head. But he started to nod, "But I have someone working to try and locate Hawk Moth. If we can find and neutralize him, then that's one less problem to deal with."

"As much as defeating Hawk Moth would make things easier." Ladybug appreciated the thought. She shook her head, "I highly doubt it would be that easy."

"Be that as it may, I will still have someone searching." Simon promised. He turned to walk out of the room and said, "As for the Indominus. I'm going to have a word with someone who may have all the answers."

"I'm going to find someone who's got some answers for me too." Ladybug said before walking up to the door. Simon opened it first and let her out. Before parting ways, Simon advised, "Cat Noir is with Owen Grady. They were last seen in the Innovation Center.

"I hope that you can deal with the crowds." Simon added before walking away. Ladybug didn't say anything before hurrying down the hall to meet with her friend.

Back at the Gyrosphere valley stop, the monorail was currently leaving the station. All five kids and the other passengers had already disembarked and were at the front of the line. They watched as Gyrospheres, the normal two-manned and the special three-manned would be released into the valley. As they were waiting, Alya turned to Gray and noticed that he was feeling a little better from earlier. She brought out her phone and decided to ask, "So, Gray? Got any other interesting facts for my blog?"

"Do I?" Gray asked, as if that had been a weird question. Alya smiled as she started recording. She then gestured for him to start and he said, "Did you know the soft tissue is preserved because of the iron in the dinosaur's blood generates free radicals, and those are highly reactive.

"So, the proteins and the cell membranes get all mixed up, and act as a natural preservative. Thus allowing the DNA inside to survive for many a millennia that way." He continued. While Chloe was looking bored as they waited, Nino looked to Zach and happened to notice him staring at a few girls waiting for their turn. It only made the DJ of the French Students shake his head. Gray then informed the future bloggers, "See, now, even if the amber mines were to dry up one day, they'll still have the bones to go back on and…"

"Shut up." Zach waved his hand at Gray to make him be quiet while not losing focus on the girls. It even made Chloe look to him and she scoffed. Alya then looked to Zach with a glare and said, "Way to ruin an interview, Zach."

The two of them looked to what Zach was looking at and saw some of the girls looking to the older teen with questioning looks. Deciding to put an end to it, Gray then questioned, "What do you think's gonna happen between you and them from you just staring at them?"

"And like I said before, it's creepy. Utterly creepy." Chloe said before she started laughing. Even the girls that Zach had been watching giggled before they saw it was their turn and left to go on the ride. Not happy with what his brother had just done, Zach sarcastically said, "Thanks, man."

"You're welcome." Zach said with a grin and it made Alya and Nino laugh too. It wasn't long until it was the five's turn. They walked forward while hearing a voice over the intercom said some health rules. While Zach and Gray took the two-manned Gyrosphere, Alya, Chloe and Nino all got into a three-manned sphere. Chloe groaned, "I can't believe that I'm really getting into this thing with you people."

"You could always ride with a sweaty stranger." Alya shrugged with a grin. The thought of doing something like that made Chloe cringe. Quickly getting into the seat that was behind the front two, she buckled in and said, "Let's hurry up and go already."

Alya and Nino laughed as the got in. When all five were in, their Gyrosphere's were pushed forward. As they left the gate, the operator had a bored look when he said for the billionth time, "Enjoy the ride."

The two Gyrospheres quickly zoomed down into the valley and out of sight. But before anymore Gyrospheres could be released, the phone on the operator's console rang and he picked it up, "Hello?"

"Seriously?" He asked when he got the new orders. He glanced back at the large crowds waiting for their turn. He knew what was coming when he said, "Uh, sorry, folks. The ride is now closed."

Everyone was distraught at the news as they muttered to themselves or the person next to them. The operator brought out a hand book and informed, "Everyone needs to proceed back to the monorail and exit towards the…"

He was stopped as they continued to be peeved about this inconvenience. Wishing they would cut him some slack he said, "Come on, you guys, I just work here."

Back at the Control Room in one of the labs, Henry Wu came out of a suspicious room. The door shut behind him and he quickly input the code to lock it while the woman on the PA system said, "Due to technical difficulties, all of our exhibits are now closed."

When he glanced back to see what was happening, he could see a lot of the tourists starting to leave. Wu was greatly surprised to see one individual walking in the opposite direction of the crowd and it was the manager of the park, Simon Masrani. From the look on Masrani's face, Henry could tell that it wasn't anything good. Allowing Simon into the office, Henry asked, "Mr. Masrani? To what do I owe this pleasant surprise?"

"We need to have a serious word, Henry." Masrani got to the point. Henry nodded, "Can I offer you some tea?"

"Very well." Masrani sighed. As they waited for a pot to heat up, Masrani questioned, "We need to discuss about the Indominus Rex. And I mean everything about her."

"Oh." Henry said just as the tea finished. He poured a couple of cups and reminded, "You know that I'm not a liberty to reveal the asset's genetic makeup.

"Modified animals are known to be quite unpredictable." Henry informed him. Masrani, knowing that he's seen it for himself, didn't find it very important at the moment when he informed, "It's killed a lot of people, Henry."

"That is very unfortunate." Wu said, though he felt as if it weren't his fault. Masrani walked back and forth a little when he said, "The kill count would have been much higher had it not been for Ladybug and Cat Noir's assistance."

"Ladybug and Cat Noir are on the island?" A surprised Wu asked. Simon shook his head to get them back on track, "Not the point, Wu. We are discussing what horrors that we've created here.

"So what purpose could we have for a dinosaur that can camouflage?" He questioned, still not understanding how that had happened. Henry took a deep breath before explaining, "Cuttlefish genes were added to help her withstand an accelerated growth rate. Cuttlefish have chromatophores that allow the skin to change color."

"She was also able hide from thermal technology." Simon informed the scientist as he sat down. This really surprised Henry when he had went to take a sip of tea and asked, "Really?"

"How is this possible?" Simon asked of him. Henry seemed to get an idea and he got up as he revealed, "Tree frogs can modulate their infrared output. We added the tree frog DNA to get her to adapt to a tropical climate."

"And the fact that she could do it at will?" Simon asked as he walked past him. Henry stopped at a table that had some equipment on it and leaned against the table. Henry shook his head, "That is something that I never could have imagined…"

"I do have one more question about the Indominus." Simon said as he looked away for a moment. Henry glanced back to his boss and said, "Yes, sir?"

"When Claire, Gabriel, Adrien and I visited the paddock earlier, she seemed to be fixed on Adrien." Simon informed. This greatly surprised Henry and Masrani asked, "Why is that?"

"Perhaps she sensed a kindred spirit in Adrien." Wu said as he thought about it. He scratched his chin as he moved around a bit. Then he said, "Both Adrien and the Indominus had spent a good amount of their lives in a sheltered environment.

"With Gabriel keeping Adrien inside even after his wife, and the Indominus having been in her paddock for the greater majority of her life, it would stand to reason…" Wu said as he thought about it. Masrani took a deep breath and rubbed his forehead, "Getting back to the situation at hand, all this DNA modifications…

"Who gave you the authorization to do this?" He asked. Not believing what he was just asked, Henry Wu turned to his employer and reminded, "You did."

Simon looked to him with a confused look and Wu then recited, "The mains words were 'bigger', 'scarier, and um…

"Cooler, if I remember correctly, are the words that you used in your memo." He added with a chuckle. Simon tried to think of when he would have said this, but his attention was brought back to the lab when Wu explained, "You cannot have an animal with exaggerated predator features without the corresponding behavioral traits."

"What you're doing here… What you have done…" Simon shook his head as he tapped his fingers against the desk. This greatly confused Wu, since he had basically done what Masrani had wanted. But Simon didn't like any of it when he said, "The Board will shut down this park and seize your work and everything that you have built.

"And Hammond won't be there to protect you this time." He added and got up from his seat. Becoming a little prideful, Wu said, "All of this here… It exists because of me.

"Same with the old park." He added, a little venom in his voice. Simon noticed this and warned, "I ask that you keep your emotions in control Henry. Ladybug and Cat Noir already have their hands full with two problems already. I'd hate to burden them with a third."

"Well, if I don't go and innovate, then someone else will. Just like Nedry did with BioSyn." Wu said, doing his best to calm down. Simon then ordered, "You are to cease all activities here immediately."

His anger starting to rise again, Wu looked away and took a deep breath to calm himself. When he turned back to Masrani, he made it sound like his boss was being paranoid over something that isn't that big of a deal, "You are acting like we are engaged in some kind of a mad science here. But we are doing what we have done from the beginning. Here on Nublar and on Sorna.

"Nothing in Jurassic World is natural. As it was with Jurassic Park as well." He shook his head. Then he reminded, "We have always filled gaps in the genome of the dinosaurs with the DNA of other animals. And, if their genetic code was truly pure, many of them would look quite different than how they look now.

"And I'm sure that Ladybug and Cat Noir would agree with me on some level." Wu said as he stepped up to Masrani, "But to be fair, you didn't ask for reality. You just asked for more teeth."

"I never asked for a monster!" Simon shot back. Wu then said, "A 'monster' is a relative term. To a canary, a cat is a monster.

"Or to Ladybug and Cat Noir, Hawk Moth is a monster." Henry added, making a good point. He turned and walked out of the lab. But before leaving, Wu looked over his shoulder and said, "We're just used to being the cat or Hawk Moth."

When she made it to the Innovation Center, Ladybug was suddenly swamped by many fans as they tried talking to her at once. One tourist asked, "Ladybug! Ladybug! Is you being here have something as to why just about everything is being closed?"

"Um?" Ladybug said, trying to think of what to say. But before she could get anything out, more and more people started talking. That was until a couple of voices shouted, "Hey, get back! Leave her be!"

The crowds parted to reveal Owen Grady and Cat Noir. The black cat-themed super hero ran up to his friend and embraced her. It was enough to make the crowds go, "Aw!"

"Enough, Cat." Ladybug said as she gently pushed him back. Owen then walked up to the two heroes and said, "Okay, everyone! There'll be other times to try and talk to the heroes of Paris, you just need to be patient."

It seemed to do the trick as the crowd started to disperse. When they had some space, Owen turned to them and said, "So, you're the infamous Ladybug, huh?"

"Uh, yeah. That's me." Ladybug nodded. The Raptor Trainer smirked when he said, "I got to admit, the way that you and ACU handled Dinotrooper was pretty incredible."

"Well, the Indominus helped a little too." She said with a small laugh. But thenshe shook her head and became a little angered with her partner, "But why are you here?" She calmed down a little when she said, "Not that it was entirely a bad thing…" Her gaze hardened when she questioned again, "But what are you doing here?"

"I could ask the same thing of you, Milady." Cat Noir countered with a questioning look. Pointing to her he asked, "Shouldn't you be in Paris right about now?"

"Well, if Hawk Moth weren't on the island I would have returned by now." Ladybug defended herself. Owen moved between them and said, "Look. I know that you two have some things to work out, but I think we still need to do something.

"These people are in danger and they don't know it." Owen reminded as they looked out to the people walking about or looking over to the two super heroes. Ladybug then said, "Maybe we can do this subtly. Make sure that everyone's calm and at least know that they have nothing to worry about."

"Yeah, but I have a feeling that this was kind of what the Indominus was wanting." Cat Noir said as he started to think. Ladybug didn't really follow when she asked, "What do you mean?"

"I mean, the I-Rex is very intelligent." Cat Noir reminded. Owen said to them, "Well, whatever the reason, we have a job to do."

All three nodded in agreement and got to work. They were mostly hoping that they'd be able to do it and prevent any more disasters.
